Post season 3 after Nikita leaves. Showcasing what they went through to get to each other again.

He couldn't believe it. He didn't want to believe it. A week had passed and yet he still couldn't shake off this nightmare.

The first week he locked himself in a room refusing to eat, take care of himself or talk to anyone. The team was very concerned. Eventually, he did join them and solely focused on locating her without showing any emotion or talking about anything else other than their mission. That was almost worse to watch than him shutting them out. It was like life had been sucked out of him.

He didn't know what to feel. His heart was literally physically aching. He missed her so much. Constant flashbacks would attack him during the day. All he dreamed about was her. Opening his eyes in the morning was torture knowing he won't be greeted by her sweet smile and soft lips. Going to bed was agonizing knowing she won't be there to pull him in smothering him in her embrace. He wasn't woken up in the middle of the night anymore by her little snores or her tossing and turning in her sleep. His reason to smile was gone.

And the most painful part was the possibility of never seeing her again. He didn't even know where their relationship was standing at that point. She had left her engagement ring behind. She left behind a promise they had made to each other - their forever.

No matter the pain and the uncertainty of their relationship he was going to find her. She wasn't right running away like this. This wasn't her fight - it was theirs as well. And she had no right to sacrifice herself like that.

At one point Nikita couldn't even see the road properly because of all the tears in her eyes. It hurt. Every cry was tearing her apart from the inside. She had to pull herself together. She didn't even have a plan though. Why? - Because this wasn't supposed to happen. She was supposed to be getting her pardon after cleaning up Division, she was supposed to be planning a wedding with the love of her life and starting their life together. She was supposed to be with her family right now.

Now she doesn't even know if she'll see them again...see him again... She didn't know how this was going to end. One thing she was sure about - she wasn't dragging her family into this. She was the one with a target on her back. They sacrificed enough. She didn't know if they'll ever forgive her for it but as long as they were safe she would be fine.

She crashed at an abandoned property for the night. She needed to collect herself. After making sure it was safe she fell asleep. Waking up in the morning was torture. The previous day felt like a nightmare she hoped would end with opening her eyes.

Opening her eyes and seeing Michael hovering over her trying to calm her down and making sure she was okay. It hit all over again. No! She had to keep it together, she had to be strong for them, she had to clean this mess.

It was a beautiful morning. The sun was just starting to rise over a little cottage nestled on the beach by some palm trees. It was very early in the morning. The only things you can hear were birds chipping and waves crashing. As you get closer though you can hear bright laughter coming from the front porch.

Nikita and Michal were in a big launch chair under a blanket ready to watch the sunrise. It was Nikita's idea. She loved it when she would randomly wake up around this time and it had become like a routine for her to come out and watch the sunrise.

She dragged Michael with her this morning since they were both awake. They didn't get much sleep that night. Being all over each other was way more appealing.

"We're definitely going back to bed after this" Michael murmured into her hair and pulled her even closer. Her back was nestled into his chest.

"Or we could go for a swim. It's supposed to be really nice today" Nikita was trying to persuade him by running her hands over his that were wrapped around her waist.

"Baby…" Michael groaned, burying his face even more in her hair.

"Come on, Michael, you'll love it" Nikita brought one of her hands out to cress his cheek and make him look at her "Please" she added a little pout to really sell it.

"I guess we're going swimming later" as soon as Michael locked his eyes with hers he knew he couldn't say no. Nikita smiled wide and granted him a long sweet kiss.

They stayed in their bundle like that for a while and watched the sunrise. They have enjoyed lots of peaceful moments like this lately. They succeeded in making their dream come true. He remembered nights when they were hopping from motel to motel. They would lay in bed, cuddle and try to calm each other down from the stressful day by telling stories and joking around. Sometimes to help her fall asleep Michael would read books to Nikita or, nearly half-asleep, she would ask him about their future and how he imagined it. His description of their dream future life was always the same. Each time he only added little details to make it even more specific and in a way seem more real rather than just a dream. Sometimes she threw her own ideas as well.

And now here they were - Division and all other organisations involved gone, no running anymore, they had their own little house on the beach, their family was safe and okay, they got married...Michael glanced at the shining rings on her finger and grinned like an idiot. She was his wife and he was her husband. Even though a couple of months had passed since they said "I do" it still felt just as exciting. He thanked his lucky stars or whoever was watching over them. This was so close to staying just a dream. He cursed himself for ever thinking for a second that this wasn't worth fighting for anymore. She was worth everything.

He started lazily playing with her hair and planting kisses on her temple until he soon realised Nikita had fallen asleep. He tried not to laugh and let her rest. Micael moved them as gently as possible so they could lay down and get a nap in before going swimming. He was sure that Nikita would still want to go and now that she wasn't going to be tired it was going to be a long day. And he was so looking forward to it.

Nikita woke up before him. It took her a while to realise what had happened. She giggled. In the end, Michael did get his way. She guessed that it's around noon already. She was starving by now and decided it's best to get some food first and then head to the beach. She was going to let Michael sleep for a little bit longer and wake him when the food was ready.

However, she underestimated how much of a light sleeper her husband is. It was actually more to do with her slipping from his arms. After being together for so long he never could actually sleep and rest without her. So every time she woke up and got out of bed he felt her absence and got up as well.

She tried to get up as slowly and as steadily as possible but with no luck. He wrapped his arms around her tightly and pulled her back.

"Where do you think you're going, love?" Michael murmured into her neck.

It sent shivers down Nikita's spine. She loved the rumble of his voice when he woke up.

"Food and we are going swimming, remember?"Nikita laughed and turned to face him.

He got on top of her and started kissing her neck, jaw until he finally got to her lips. She giggled the whole time. Her stomach made another growling sound. Michael chuckled "Okay, okay let's feed you" He stood up and pulled her after him.

They prepared their food, ate and started packing up for a day at the beach. Their house was on the beach so they weren't far but prefered not to make constant trips back for their stuff.

Michael was done. He had gathered everything they'll need. He only needed to change.

He found Nikita in the closet staring at an open drawer. When she saw him she smirked and pulled him towards her wrapping her arms around his waist.

"Pick one" Michael was looking at a whole spread of bathing suits. Most of them he had already seen on Nikita and he definitely had his favourites but he'll never admit that (she knew though)

His eyes kept drifting towards the red two-piece (his personal favourite) "Definitely that one" Nikita pecked his lips repeatedly and pushed him to go change as well.

They spent the whole day swimming, lounging, and chasing each other. Nikita even managed to persuade Michael to help her build a sandcastle. More like a sand palace cause she really went all out.

Michael went to grab them dinner from the restaurant close by. So they had dinner while watching the sunset. Their perfect kind of day, better than what they could have ever imagined.
