Thechaosmaster: Hello everyone! Welcome back to Undertale: Fates Intertwined!
Red: Two months late.
Chaos: Not really, more like, a month and a few days.
Red: Yeah, well… Wait. Did you not argue with me?
Chaos: Eh, I'm trying not to be angry today.
Red: Who are you and where's the real Chaos?
Chaos rolls eyes: Gee, nice to see that the one day I don't argue with you, you act like it's the end of the world.
Red: Well, can you blame me? Normally you're a hair trigger away from blowing a casket.
Chaos: Enough of that. Now, raise of hands, how many of you thought that this would be the chapter that brings us to Hotland?
Red raises her hand: I know I did.
Chaos: You're not the only one. I was planning on starting Hotland in this chapter myself, but this chapter, like with much of what I write, took on a life of it's own. Also, this will be a one of a kind chapter, as well as an experimental one.
Red: What kind of experimental?
Chaos: Well, if anyone can see it below, you'll all see that this chapter is from Undyne's POV for a change. Yeah, I know! A chapter that makes Chara and Frisk take a backseat? Preposterous! Chaos is changing the core of his story? HANG HIM! *chuckles* Sorry, but, trust me, I would love nothing more for this chapter to be centered around one of our girls, but, for this chapter, I couldn't really do that. Well, we won't keep you waiting any longer, enjoy the chapter. Oh, I would suggest listening to Imagine Dragons song Birds, also I know I don't say this anymore, but, for old times sakes, Read and Review! The reviews helps boost my confidence.
Red: As well as his ego.
Chaos: HEY!
Red: I managed to get you to snap after all. That's a win for me.
Chaos: Ugh, I need a new muse.

Chapter 8: Of Mothers And Daughters
Undyne's POV
What am I doing? That was the question I had asked myself as I left Sans and Paps house, softly closing the door, allowing the kids to sleep in peace. They deserve some well needed sleep after what they've been through today.
But seriously, what in the hell am I doing right now?
I made my way out of Snowdin Town and into Snowdin Forest, thinking about what I had just learned tonight. That punk, Frisk, she too has the power of the RESET. And from what I found out, she only just learned what it was.
And Chara, damn. She really is back from the dead. Even if it is just as a ghost. When I first saw her floating next to Frisk when they first came into Waterfall, I thought, well, more like hoping, that I was seeing things. But I wasn't.
sigh
And her first impression of me for the first time in a hundred years and I go and try and succeed in killing her girlfriend. That's just like you, isn't it, Undyne. You never think, do you? Your orders were to capture any human that falls down here ALIVE, and instead, you force yourself to try and kill them. All because you didn't want to get to close to anyone again. All so you wouldn't get hurt, like when Tiana died.
You're a hundred and twenty-five years old, Undyne. Stop acting like you're an over eager guppy who just got her hands on Zabuza's Kubikiribocho, Or any other of the Mist's Seven Swords. Start acting your age.
But, there is one thing that I do know. Frisk, she knows something about Chara that the rest of us don't. Probably the same thing that Gerson knows.
How Chara REALLY died.
I'm not stupid. She was really desperate to end her life when she first fell down here. When I first saw her all those years ago, and saw that almost broken and glazed, zombie like expression in her eyes, I could tell. She was already dead on the inside. When she got here, the only time she ever looked any kind of lively, was when she was with Az, if only a little bit.
That was why Asgore and Toriel first had me take her out after her first month of being down here. She wouldn't open up to anyone other than Az, and that was just barely. They hated to admit they were terrible parents, and they weren't. But Chara was completely different from Asriel.
She was always antisocial. Preferred to be isolated away from anyone other than her brother. Truthfully, if not for Azzie, I don't think Chara would be who she turned out to be.
But then, Toriel caught her cutting her wrists with the gardening knife that Asgore gave her to help him in his own small garden, after using her healing magic, she made sure that Chara went to bed after that. Maybe that was when she thought that perhaps, what Chara needed was to leave Home for a while, so, she called on me.
I was only twenty at the time, still a little young and reckless. But the perfect person to try to bring that punk outta her shell. Toriel was too much of a mother hen to get through to her, too much coddling.
And Asgore, bless his SOUL, tried his hardest to get through to her, but he was perhaps a little too patient with her, always just waiting for Chara to come to him to talk, but she never did.
And she only ever opened up to Az. Only ever spoke to him. But the twerp was just like his mother. He'd been too kind and too caring. Never really pushed her to open up. Just wanted her to focus on the future, and never asked about the past. At the very end of the day that first year, Az was her security blanket. Allowing her to know that things were going to be okay. Always supportive.
But, whenever she was asked about what happened on the surface, who gave her those scars and marks on her back, she would clam up, before harshly glaring at a wall, and saying that she doesn't want to talk about it. Then she would go silent and storm off on her own to recenter herself.
That was why I was the perfect choice. When Toriel caught her trying to slit her wrists, she feared for, both her current mentality, as well as her wellbeing, she tried to help her, but that didn't work, instead, Chara became more antisocial then she already was, and worst of all, she started to push Az away. Be it, Az simply thought that Chara needed time to herself, he didn't question it. And Chara was always nice to him when she told him to leave her alone.
Then Toriel thought I could get her to open up, have a sort of, girls night out, while she went around hiding all the knives and dulling all the tools in the house. This was shortly before everyone started moving to the Capital, I had just moved into Waterfall a month before this happened.
Besides, my folks were good friends with Asgore and Toriel, so, in turn, I ended up getting close to them as well. Practically became their adopted daughter, or at the very least, their niece.
After all, I helped look after Az from time to time, and so, I was easily asked to try to get Chara to open up to me.
But that punk, I was visiting Gerson, and had my back turned towards her for a few moments to help set up something for his shop, and Chara took that as an opportunity to wander off.
When I noticed that she was gone, I quickly started looking for her, and found her at the cliff. She was just sitting there, all by herself, crying. I figured she just wanted to be left alone for the moment to cry in secret. There were times in those early days that she cried a lot, and she never liked it when people caught her crying, she always said that it made her feel weak, and vulnerable.
So, I watched over her from a distance. Making sure no one tried anything funny. The people were still uncertain about Chara. They were terrified about what a human could do down here. But, there were never any attacks. Not from the moment she fell down here, until the day she died. There were no attacks. Just, uneasiness in that first month.
Then after, say, half an hour, she rubbed her eyes with her sleeve and I watched her stand up, and I thought that she was gonna come looking for me. But, instead, she looked down, took a deep breath, and jumped.
My eyes widened at this and in a moment, I jumped forward and grabbed her shirt collar before she could fall beyond my reach, and pulled her up and put back on the ground. That was when I laid into her.
"What the fuck do you think you're doing, Chara!?" I yelled at her in disbelief. "Why the hell would you try to take your life!?"
Tears in her eyes, Chara cried out, "Why would you care!? Why would anyone care about me!? I'm NOTHING! NO! I'M LESS THAN NOTHING!"
What the fuck? Is she that fucked up that…? That was when she said, "Toriel and Asgore only took me in out of pity, and I know it! Nobody fucking loves me! Not them! Not you! Not my village! And certainly not anyone else down here! I'm just a piece of shit! I worthless pile of garbage that had to be thrown away on the surface! And down here? HAH! I'm just constant fucking reminder that the monsters down here are still trapped!"
Oh, shit! How bad did those humans fuck this kid up?
That was my first thought after hearing Chara speak. But I was angry at the way she just dismisses everyone caring about her, including her adopted parents, it was strange that she never mentioned Az, but then again, she always seemed to have a certain soft spot for him.
Still, I was angry about how she dismissed everyone who cares about her, I grabbed her by the front of her collar and lifted her up till we were eye level, and I said, "Listen here, you sorry sack of shit. I don't know who the hell you think you are, but Queen Toriel and King Asgore took you in, not out of pity, but because they genially care about you! Have you ever thought that they are just very loving parents, that just wants what's best for you? That wants you to be happy?"
Chara gripped my arm tightly as she spat to her side and GLARED at me as she asked, "Why the fuck would they care about a worthless, broken, piece of shit like myself? And how could I trust them not to just throw me away like the pile of garbage I am? HOW THE FUCK CAN I TRUST THEM, WHEN THOSE FUCKING HUMANS, WHEN MY FUCKING BIRTH PARENTS DIDN'T EVEN WANT ME!? HUH!? HOW CAN I KNOW I WON'T BE ABANDONED EVER AGAIN!?"
I glared hard at the little punk, we knew that she had negative feelings for her birth parents. That was no secret. She made that perfectly clear that she never wanted to talk about her life with the humans, and after seeing her scars, I understood. But, she has no right trying to push everyone who wants to help her away. And I wasn't going to allow some snot nosed brat treat who could possibly be my second family, like they were some horrible people!
I said in a dangerously low voice, "Listen here, you little shit. Asgore and Toriel are the kindest and most caring people down here. I have known them all my life, my father serves under the King as his personal guard, and my mother, oh, she was the Toriel's bridesmaid when they got married. I have known them since I was but a mere tadpole, a small fish in a world full of sharks, and I know that they would rather die than harm anyone."
While I hated saying what I did to Chara, it was all in the name of tough love. Toriel and Asgore were not very huge fans of that kind of love, but I had no problem with it if it meant I could get through to Chara. "They didn't take you in outta pity, nor just because their son found you. They took you in because they're loving parents and wants what's best for you! The only reason why they sent you to me is because I don't take shit from anyone! And Toriel figured you could use a girls bonding day."
But, despite what I was saying, she didn't even react, so, I decided to try a different approach, I looked down on her and asked, "You hate what those humans did to you, don't you?"
Hearing that cause Chara to show true emotion aside from despair, and it was rage. "Yes, I hate them, I hate them with all I've got! There, I said it, you happy?" I could have sworn that her eyes flashed pitch black when she said that, but it had to have been a trick of the glistening light.
Deciding to ignore her eyes, I gave her a menacing smile as I said, "Then why would you take the cowards way out to escape what they did to you? Here's a thought. How about you tell them to go fuck themselves, and in the most insulting way possible?"
I watched as a hint of curiosity entered her eyes as she said, "And how do I do that, Undyne?"
I simply said, "Those bastards probably think that you either died from that fall or got killed by one of us, if they even know, or even care where you went in the first place. So, what better to give them a metaphorical kick in their asses, give them the biggest middle finger of all time, then by living your best life down here? Screw those assholes up above. Your life up above ended the moment you fell down here. So, why not enjoy your new life down here?"
Hearing those words, seemed to cause a tiny light to appear in the brats eyes. Then she closed her eyes for a minute, taking a deep breath, then nodded, and with a slight smile, she opened her eyes back up, and they seemed to shine ever so brighter than they had before as she said, "Yeah, you know what? You're right. They didn't want me? Fuck 'em, then. This is my new life. Why shouldn't I enjoy it? Those bastards didn't care about me, so why should I care about them? They can all go burn in hell for all I care!"
I smirked at this, then I put her down on solid ground and said, "There you go, Princess. Now, c'mon. Let's head to my house. Let's make something to eat." I offered her my hand, and, without even thinking, she took it. And together, we headed off to my house, which, we promptly ended up burning down from cooking. But, Chara had the time of her life, so, it all worked out in the end.
Even to this day, we still don't know the full torment those bastards put her through, besides her having parental issues. But, that was the first time I had ever called her Princess, and while Toriel did reprimand me about burning my house down with Chara in it, when we were alone, she thanked me for getting Chara to start smiling.
While we did promise Chara that we would never mention her suicidal attempts to Az, there was a possibility that he knew that she tried something dangerous. Because he was much more clingy to her for a week after that. He was really good at reading Chara. But, he never pushed for answers, he was just clingy. But, Chara didn't mind it one bit.
He tried his hardest to make her smile and laugh, and when she finally started acting like a little kid, Asriel became more than just her brother, he became her best friend. Her partner in crime, so to speak. And boy, did those two get themselves into some trouble.
Heh, those two were like two peas in a pod. After that talk with her, she smiled as brightly as possible, and Az, he was just happy he had his sister back. You never see one without the other. Together, they became the hopes and dreams of the Underground. Ahh, those were the good old days, before everything went all to shit.
But, to think, Chara was able to open up to that human, open up to Frisk, so easily, well, I doubt it was really easy, for either of them, but it was quicker than any of us. And with what Frisk went through, it's no wonder. Poor kid. No wonder she wishes to stay here.
I mean, why would she want to go back to a village that ostracized her for being a lesbian, when she could become part of a society that fully embraces both gays, lesbians and even transgender people?
Not to mention, she wants to help break the Barrier. But, I can tell, just from her interactions, that she hasn't been told about how to CROSS the Barrier. Wonder why Chara hasn't explained that to her? Actually, considering who her dad is, I'm not surprised.
And then there's Flowey.
I looked down sadly as I thought about that kid. 'Oh, Az. What happened to you?' When you first appeared outside my house, all those RESETs ago, you were this lost, broken flower. Asgore tried his best, but in the end, he couldn't help you, and Toriel, she tried her hardest with you. But, they just couldn't do much for you, no matter how hard they tried.
And I thought you were making progress with me. But then, I discovered you were the one who was the new controller of the RESET. I knew the moment the world went back in time. I had felt that feeling many times before. I wanted to talk to you, but, when you came back to see me. I saw that there was something, different, about you.
You once again tried talking to me, and while we didn't really get along with each other, not like we used to, at least. This time, however, you didn't introduce yourself as Asriel, instead you started calling yourself 'Flowey The Flower.' Tch, you really took after your father with that creative naming scheme, didn't you?
But, despite everything, I really did try my best to help you out, but because you couldn't feel any kind of compassion, couldn't feel love, and nothing I did could help you. I can't even find myself to hate you for what you've done, from what I could see, this path you went on, seemed to be the only way you can even FEEL anything. Even if it is a horrible way to experience any kind of enjoyment.
Eventually, you started to abuse the RESET. Started treating this world like a video game, and the rest of us here as NPC's. I lost track of how many times you did so, and quite frankly, I don't want to know. But, the more and more you reset, it seemed like the more of your sanity you lost. And the more you started to see this world as some sick game.
And then you killed me for the first time. How many times has it been? How many RESETs did you go through? I stopped keeping track after the fiftieth RESET.
Some were peaceful, the first couple of timelines, anyways, but even more were complete killing sessions. I clenched my fist tightly, as I remembered THOSE runs. I looked down at my hand, as I remembered that power.
Before I could continue my thoughts, however, I looked up and saw the Ruins doors standing intimidatingly in front of me. I remember living in Home with my folks for a few years. Wish they could have lived to see how things have gotten now. Wish they could have gotten the chance to see the sun. But, I'll find a way to get to the surface, for them.
I looked towards the pile of snow on my right, or as Chara always called them, Snow Poffs, and saw the reflection of the camera. I waved and softly said, "Hey, Al. How are you doing?" I didn't get an answer, and I knew I never would.
But I figured I'd talk to her anyways. I simply shrugged as I said, "Things have gotten a little wild over here. I mean, I once again made friends with a human. How wild is that?" Still no response. Not really surprised. "Well, wish me luck with what I'm about to do. 'Cause I know I'll need it."
Shaking my head, I raised my fist and knocked lightly on the door, and for a reason I couldn't explain, I said, "Knock-knock." I think Sans is rubbing off on me.
It was silent for a while, before I heard a faint giggle as a very familiar women's voice asked, "Tee hee. Who's there?"
I rolled my eyes at this. 'Figures, even after a hundred years she still hasn't grown out of her joke loving habits. And knock-knock jokes? Really, Toriel? You know, it wouldn't surprise me if THIS is where Sans spends all his time instead of patrolling for humans. Sans is just the monster who would tell knock-knock jokes out here.'
Deciding to "play along" with this situation, I said in a soft, laid back, Sans-like, voice, "Little bird."
Toriel giggled as she asked, "Little bird who?"
"A little bird told me that an old friend was in the Ruins… Your Highness." I said, my face as neutral as possible, my voice returning back to normal.
I heard her gasp in shock as she asked, "Un- Undyne!?"
I nodded, to myself at the very least as I said, "Glad to see that you recognize my voice, Your Highness."
That was when I heard her growl in anger as she hissed out, "What have you done to the child, Undyne!?"
Deciding to tell her the truth, I said, "Nothing. Nothing at all, Your Highness. In fact, she is the reason I'm here this late at night."
"Don't lie to me, Undyne!" Toriel hissed out at me. "You killed her, just like you and Asgore killed the other kids I let pass through these doors, didn't you?"
I gripped my fist tightly, remembering Tiana. I glared hardly at the doors, wanting to rip into her for that remark. She didn't know what we had to go through with those punks. What Asgore goes through every day, but, I took several deep breaths, this is for that punk, I need to do this right, or the punks could never hear from Toriel again.
Clearing my throat I said, "Your Highness, may I come in. I wish to speak to you, in person."
I heard her huff in anger as she said, "Hmph! And why should I? You're just gonna gloat about how you killed each and every poor innocent child that has passed through these doors. From that kind and gentle chef, to the young and aspiring cowboy, to that brash, yet gentle fighter, to the knowledge hungry Justin Quinn. To my little gardener, and finally, my sweet ballerina. And now you've taken that young girl's SOUL. Admit it, you just came here to gloat on how Asgore is going to absorb all their SOULs, break the Barrier, and wage war on humanity. Didn't you? Some friend you turned out to be."
I folded my arms and scoffed at this old broad. I love her like she's my mother, but does she really think we mercilessly killed those kids? Well, with Frisk she's not completely wrong. I did kill her, even though she desperately showed me unconditioned Mercy. I balled my fists in anger and regret as I asked, "And you're mother of the year, aren't you, Tori?"
I heard Tori gasp from behind the doors and asked, "What are you talking about?"
"You've had seven human kids fall into the Ruins in the past thirty years, yet, you've only managed to learn one, ONE of their names." I said, now starting to understand the anger Frisk had towards me for calling Triston simply Orange SOUL. "While I'm no better, I at least learned three of their names before that last punk verbally kicked my ass for not knowing the other kids names."
Toriel went silent for a while, then she asked, "What are you talking about?"
I closed my eyes, and took a deep breath, before opening them and saying, "Let me in, and I'll explain everything. Besides, you and I need to talk about something important."
"What could thatbe, Undyne?" Toriel asked, her voice filled with venom.
I took a deep breath before saying, "What really happened to the kids. You think me and Asgore ruthlessly murdered each of those humans, but you're wrong. Of the six that had come through here, yes, four were killed by me and Asgore, but there is more than just mindless killing. And trust me, we didn't enjoy what we did. The first that came through here, Nathen Malark, the chef, he willingly gave his SOUL to Asgore, without much of a fight."
I heard Toriel's voice gasp in shock as she said, "You're, you're lying!"
Even though she couldn't see me, I shook my head and said, "No, I'm not, Toriel. Nathen's death is what led to Asgore taking back his order for all the humans to die before having their SOULs being brought to him. He wished that all the humans to be brought back to him, ALIVE. But, through some tragedy, not all humans made it to him alive. I won't lie, my queen. Regretfully, I did kill one human. And only one." Make that, two. If only temporary.
I could feel Toriel getting ready to yell at me, then I said, "But I regret his death the most. And, in his last breaths, all he asked was that his SOUL, were to be placed beside his sister's. A request that Asgore was all too eager to fulfill. But note, it wasn't out of malice or hatred that I killed him, but, a sheer overreaction. A complete accident. I didn't even WANT to kill him. Just weaken him down, THEN capture him. But…things got way outta hand, way too fast."
I put my hand over my left eye as I remembered what has happened to my eye. "Can I come in, Toriel? Please, for old times sakes?"
At first I didn't get an answer, and I feared that I would have had to force the doors open, wouldn't be the first time I did that, but then I heard the rumbling of the large doors, and I backed away as they slowly opened. And there, like she had just walked out of the past, stood the queen, and she looks as if she hasn't aged a day. Just like Asgore.
Now, for anyone else, that would be seen as a good thing, but to a Boss Monster who lost their birth child, that's what we call a curse. Unwanted immortality.
Toriel looked at me and smiled weakly before she saw my face and gasped in shock as she saw my eye. She walked up to me and carefully held the left side of my face as she asked, "What, what happened?"
"I rather not talk about it right now, auntie." I said a little quietly, while turning my head away.
Toriel reluctantly nodded before stepping to the side and saying, "Please, come in. I, don't really get that many visitors. Well, except for one person, but…"
I shook my head and began walking inside as I said, "I'm pretty sure I know who it is. I know him. He's SUPPOSED to be a sentry to keep an eye out for humans, but is in fact the laziest Monster down here."
Once I stepped in, I turned to watch as Toriel closed the Ruins gate. When she turned to me, I ran up to her and hugged her tightly, "I missed you, aunty." I never really allow myself to really be emotional in the Royal Guard.
After all, I have a reputation of being a cold hearted badass to keep up. The only emotions I get to show, is bloodthirsty and, what did Frisk call me? Over eccentric? Yeah, that was me, and then some.
Toriel after hesitating for a single moment, returned the hug and said, "I missed you too, Undyne. I'm, I'm sorry I ran away, but…"
I interrupted her and said, "I hate that you ran away myself, but Asgore told me that he fully understands. I, at first had thought you were dead, but Asgore, he knew, he knew that you wouldn't die so easily." Be it, unless we were still living by HIS control. One of the many good things Frisk has done just by being here. Ending what appeared to be an unending nightmare.
Toriel shook her head before heading upstairs and saying, "I shouldn't be forgiven, Undyne. That little girl, she, she made me realize how much I failed as a mother."
"Her name is Frisk. Or, that's the name that she calls herself." I said, not letting my new best friend simply be called human.
"Frisk?" She asked, and I nodded, she smiled and said, "That's a nice name." As Toriel led me upstairs, she asked me, "How is she doing, by the way, Undyne?"
I chuckled as I said, "Well, considering that she was able convince me to stop trying to kill her, pretty great, all things considered."
Toriel lightly glared at me as she said, "Don't you dare say something as off handed as that in my presents ever again, Undyne. I may be out of practice, but I still have enough strength in me to remind you why I was the only one who could match Asgore in combat."
I chuckled awkwardly at this, then I said, "Uh, sorry, Toriel. But, to be honest, she's a good kid. And I think Chara's a good influence on her."
That was when Toriel froze in her spot. "What, what did you say?"
I sighed at this and placed my hand on Toriel's back and said, "We have a lot to talk about, Auntie. I suggest you make us some tea. Because even I have a hard time believing it myself."
Toriel nodded then she said, "I would say make yourself at home, but, knowing you, you'd probably burn my house down." She then gave me a playful smile.
I laughed awkwardly as I said, "Uh, I guess I shouldn't mention that me and the punks made spaghetti at my house, huh?" And then I started rubbing my head in embarrassment at this. "And that we also burned down my house, again. Heheh."
Toriel shook her head, but was smiling softly before saying, "Some things never change, do they, Undyne." I was going to answer, before she motioned to her table and said, "Take a seat, Undyne. I'll make us some tea."
I nodded as she headed off into her neat and tidy kitchen, and I headed for the dining room table, I looked around her home, and realized, it hadn't changed one bit. It really showed how much Toriel holds onto the past.
Truthfully, Asgore told me not to look for Toriel. That she went into self-exile willingly, and while he wished she would return, he knew that, at the current time, she wouldn't. I think he knew exactly where she went, but choose to leave her be. For he was probably scared what she might do to him at this point. But, this isn't about Asgore, not tonight. 'This is to give that punk some kind of mother support. As her new best friend, I want to do everything I can to help her out now.'
Taking auntie's advice, I took a seat at the table, in Asgore's old chair, and waited for Toriel to return.
Soon enough, Toriel returned from making tea, as she handed me my drink, she said, "I do hope you've been taking care of yourself, Undyne."
As I took a sip from my tea, I said, "As best as I can, Aunty."
Toriel sighed sadly as she asked, "How is he, Undyne? How is Asgore doing?"
I sighed and said, "About as messed up as you are, Tori."
I watched as Toriel's eyes widened as she asked, "What, what do you mean?"
I sipped my tea as I said, "Don't think that Asgore took any kind of enjoyment in the deaths of the kids that were at his hands. In fact, when he received the Cyan SOUL of that young gardener, Amanda Belrose, he just about broke down when he heard how she died." Poor kid. I mean, Justin's death was sad, but Amanda? That was just tragic.
I swirled my tea in my cup as I said, "And when Tiana was caught by me, I couldn't even bring myself to fight her. How could I? She was bringing Shyra, Shyren's sister, who happen to be a piano student of mine, to Alphys. I couldn't, in good graces, kill a kid who was trying to help out a Fallen Down monster, especially when Alphys was trying her best to help them."
Lot of good THAT was, however. One of the few things I wish I could forget. But that image is burned within the cornea's of my mind. I will never be able to forget that for as long as I live. I still have nightmares about it to this day.
I looked Toriel in the eyes and asked, "Who do you wish to know about first, Aunty?"
I watched as the woman who had been there for me for years sigh as she said, "Tell me about my daughter, Undyne." She then locked eyes with me as she said, "Tell me about Chara."
I sighed at this, for I knew that she would ask about Chara first, I took a long sip from my drink before saying, "When I first saw that punk, just hovering behind Frisk when they first came into Waterfall, I thought I was seeing things. Truth be told, I was freaked out. At first I thought that she had illusionary magic."
Torie giggled at this, as she said, "Really, Undyne? Isn't illusionary magic a little, old school? Even for us?"
I shrugged and said, "To be honest, I only kept telling myself that because I didn't want to believe in the impossible." Even though, he returned, but he wasn't all there anymore.
sigh
"Anyways, I chased Frisk throughout Waterfall, you know, me enjoying the hunt a little too much, and all that." I said, no point to hide that from her. She would probably just figure it out eventually.
Toriel nodded at this, "Yeah, I remember those 'Hide and Seek' games you, Chara and Asriel used to play in the past, Undyne." She then flashed me a playful smile as she said, "And the endless rants of how you are a freaking psycho coming from Chara every time she came home from one of your 'games.'"
I chuckled at this, "Yeah, anyways, even though I kept pounding Frisk with spear after spear, I really didn't enjoy it. And I usually enjoy a good chase!" Toriel softly growled at me for this remark, as I enjoyed the chase of criminals the most.
"But, I just wasn't into this chase. My short friendship with Tiana last year, it changed me. And when she died, I felt like I had lost a sister. So, I made a secret promise to myself. A completely stupid, and insane idea that I would kill any human that fell down here, just so I wouldn't get hurt from friendship ever again."
"That is irresponsible and completely insane, Undyne!" Toriel all but yelled at me.
I nodded, taking another sip from my tea, I wasn't even going to argue with her, because, I agreed with her full-heartedly. Then I looked down sadly as I said, "I know, Aunty, I know." I looked right at her and said, "I will admit, however, Frisk is the most selfless person I have ever met. Even more so than Tiana. She was willing to allow Cedric, a monster kid I know down here, to bite her hand, in order for her to try to save him from dying, all with zero care for her own safety."
Toriel's eyes widened at this as she asked, "Is she…?"
I shook my head and said, "She had almost fallen to her death, in fact, while I didn't tell her this, for a single moment, I had contemplated saving Cedric, and letting her die, collect her SOUL, and be done with it. That way, she didn't have to die at my hands."
Toriel glared at me, but before she could say anything, I looked down to my right and softly said, "But, I couldn't do it. I couldn't, in good graces just let her die like that."
I took another sip of my tea, with it almost being gone at this point, and I said, "When I saved that little punk, I dug through that satchel of hers, pulled out medical tape, and seeing someone that young even HAVE medical tape says a lot about her. Whether she was abused, or just being over prepared for whatever happens down here, I don't know."
I shook my head, not wanting to think about the punks past. "Then I grabbed her arm, rather forcibly, I might add, and started wrapping her hand up, and forced her to eat one of the Monster Candies that she had."
"You did all of that, for her?" Toriel asked me in surprise.
I shook my head and said, "It wasn't because I had a change of heart, Aunty. I just wasn't willing to let her die like that. Or allow her hand to get any kind of infection. I told her that if she wanted to move onwards, that she was going to have to FIGHT me. Truthfully, I wasn't planning on killing her, just wear her out until she quit, then bring her to Asgore, alive."
Yeah, keep telling yourself that, Undyne. You had full intentions on killing her back there. And if it wasn't for the power of the RESET, you would have succeeded.
"Then, what happened, Undyne?" Aunty asked me, curiosity clear in her voice.
I sipped the last of my tea before saying, or should I say, before lying through my teeth, "That punk, she was down to a single HP, and I told her that I wasn't going to kill her, that all she had to do was give up, and I wouldn't hurt her." Load of bullshit that is.
You had her dead by all accounts, but her SOUL shattered, and then, time reversed. "But that punk, too damn determined for her own good, had a Sea Tea, then she stood tall, and she seemed ready for round two. I smiled at her bravado, because that meant more excitement for me. But it seemed that she had been able to learn my attacks; and started blocking all of them without even trying. Then, when I decided to surprise her by deactivating my paralysis magic; and thrown a sideways spear."
While Toriel didn't seem too impressed with me admitting that I was trying my hardest to kill another kid, I smiled as I said, "But that punk, not only did she avoid my surprise attack, but she also started running into Hotland. 'Course, this pissed me off to no end, as I'm sure you can understand, Aunty."
Toriel couldn't suppress her giggles as she said, "Oh, I bet. So, what happened next?"
Deciding to be honest, "Well, I chased her." I said, a little humor in my voice as I said, "'Course, she seemed to think that it was wise to edge me on and taunted me into chasing her first."
Toriel giggled at this, and I laughed as well, "It seems to me that she's a little playful, huh?"
I nodded as I said, "Yeah, even in the face of death, that punk just ran right past me, taunting me all the while. I, of course, wanted to enjoy it, but, I shook my head, knowing I had a job to do. I chased after her, more viciously then before, but, she had led me to Hotland. And a fish, in a large, metal suit of armor, in Hotland is not the best combo."
Toriel nodded at this, "Yeah, I bet so, Undyne. So, what happened."
I sighed at this as I said, "Frisk fully had me at her mercy, I was passed out from the heat. Truthfully, I wouldn't have blamed her if she had just, left and let me die. I mean, I had tried to kill her, and I almost successfully did so." I HAD killed her.
"And yet, without even a shred of fear, she poured water onto my gills, and saved my life. I was honestly surprised at this. Then, I decided to leave her alone. Not going to attack her after that. She did, however, offer up another cup of water as a sort of peace offering. She said that I could consider us even. I saved her life, she saved mine. I accepted this, not enjoying people holding debts over other people's heads. I took the water, and threw it onto my face, then headed home."
Toriel smiled softly at me, "Frisk really is a sweet little girl, isn't she?"
I nodded at this and said, "Yeah, maybe a little too sweet, but, whatever works for her, then."
Toriel started to laugh at this, it was great to hear her laugh again. "So, how'd you two become friends, Undyne?"
I laughed lightly at this as I said, "Funny story, really! A friend of mine, he had this wild idea of me and the kid being friends. Of course, I wasn't in the mood to make friends with that punk. But that guy, he knew just the way to get me to make friends with Frisk." I smirked at Toriel and said, "And I bet you 5G that you can figure out how he did that, huh, Toriel?"
Toriel put her fist to her mouth as she laughed and said, "Chances are, he said something along the lines of it being too challenging for you to make friends with her, huh?"
I laughed loudly as I took out 5G and passed it to her and said, "Yep! Paps knew me so well, that he knew that if he said making friends with Frisk would be too challenging that I would do so, just to prove him wrong. And even Frisk knew that little trick with me from our fight, and, well, I just couldn't resist a challenge."
Toriel began laughing at this, then she slowed down and said, "Wait, 'Paps' as in Papyrus?" I nodded, curious as to how auntie knew Paps name, at least, until she said, "That's my friends brothers name."
I nodded, that's it. I was right, Sans has been visiting auntie after all. "Yep. Paps is Sans' brother all right." I said, happy to know that Sans actually has been doing something right, for once.
"Sans? That's his name?" Toriel asked in surprise.
This took me by surprise. I raised my only visible eyebrow and asked, "You mean to tell me you didn't know his name, Toriel?"
She laughed awkwardly as she pulled at her collar and said, "Uh, it never really occurred to either of us to exchange names. He just started knocking on the Ruins door, and began telling jokes, and our friendship just spiraled from there." She then had this small smile appear on her face as she said, "And I even recently told him how to make one of my regular pies. Not my famous Butterscotch Cinnamon Pie. But, just a simple one."
I shook my head at this and said, "Well, anyways, I offered Frisk a drink, and she pointed towards Golden Flower Tea, after playfully flirting with me, first."
I watched at Toriel giggle at this as she said, "Oh, my! Tee hee, I didn't realize…"
I laughed at this and said, "Yeah, kids a little, flirty, but, Chara seemed to be annoyed at her for that. At the very least, when she flirts with other people. I think she gets jealous easily." A playful smirk started to spread across my face.
That made her a little somber, and she said, "So, I didn't imagine her voice, or her hugging me then, huh?"
I shook my head, and got more serious as I said, "No, Chara's SOUL latched onto Frisk's when she fell on her grave, now she quote unquote 'haunts' her. And it's her, trust me, I tested her. She knew about her, attempts, and only Chara would know about those. No one but you, me and Asgore knew."
Toriel nodded as she sadly looked down and said, "I suspected that Asriel knew about them, but he never wanted to make Chara sad, so he kept it to himself."
I nodded, then I softly said, "Also, Frisk, she knows about Chara's back."
Toriel gasped in shock, "She, she showed her?"
I shrugged my shoulders and said, "She must have. I don't see any other reason why she would know about those, especially seeing how we kept those hidden from Asriel, and just about everyone except for Gerson, and the last Royal Scientist. I don't know why she showed them to her, but, I suspect that Chara even told her what had happened with the humans."
Toriel's eyes widened even further as she said, "But, she never told us! Why would she tell Frisk, but not us? We're her family!"
I lightly glared at Toriel and asked, "Isn't it obvious, Toriel?" She shook her head and I said, "You and Asgore coddled her too much. You…" I pointed at her, then said, "babied her too much! You never pushed for answers, kept on telling her that it was in the past. Asgore always waited for HER to come to HIM to talk about it. And she never did! I didn't really care about the other humans."
I swear, we were her family, but we also made it clear, that we didn't want to bring up her past, just so she didn't get uncomfortable. "And Azzie never knew and never wanted to make her upset asking about what her life was like up above. We all cared about her, yes, but not a single ONE of us pushed for answers." We all loved Chara, but we all kept telling her that it was in the past. That it was okay to move on.
"But, I don't know why Chara told Frisk her past. That seems to be a secret between them, and I don't think Frisk will ever tell without Chara's permission. And, from the way Frisk reacted when she mentioned the scars, I'm not certain I want to know anymore. That kid seemed to brush off almost anything else, even a near death experience didn't really shake her. But from how she described the scars, she was really shaken up." Fuck, not even DEATH seemed to shock her.
I know I freaked out the first time I came back after being killed. Shit's horrifying, and yet, strangely peaceful at the same time.
Toriel seemed shocked at this, then she shook her head, then took a sip of her tea as she asked, "How are they? Do they get along well with each other, at least? They don't fight or argue, do they?" I laughed at this, but Toriel didn't like that.
She slammed her fist to the table as she angrily said, "Undyne! It's not funny! If their SOULs are attached to each other as you say, and they didn't get along with each other…"
I interrupted her and said, "Trust me, they get along like a house on fire. In my case, literally!"
"Undyne." Toriel said, her voice stern. "I'm being serious here."
I placed my arms on the table as I rubbed a tear from my eye and said, "Oh, trust me, so am I. They may have only known each other for only, what? Three days? But they couldn't be any closer, even if they were conjoined at the hip."
Toriel seemed to be in that doubtful mother mode of hers and said, "You know something I don't, don't you?"
I finished off my tea as I smiled a toothy grin and with a wave of my hand, I casually said, "Well, for girlfriends, the two couldn't be any closer."
Toriel's mouth fell as she asked, "G-girlfriends?"
I nodded, my smile growing ever so slightly as I said, "Yeah, I was surprised myself, but, while it may seem like that haven't known each other for very long; I mean, three days is awfully short, considering how similar they are to each other, I'm not surprised. Frisk did tell you of her past right?"
Toriel nodded as she looked down at her now empty cup and sadly asked, "Yeah, how can humans treat such a kind child like that. Shunned, outcasted, and stoned. That's not right. And all because she's a lesbian, and a Monster sympathizer."
My eyes widened at this. "Wait! She was STONED!?" I asked in complete shock.
Toriel looked surprised and she asked, "She never told you?"
I shook my head, "No, she didn't." Then I put my finger to my chin as I said, "Although, thinking about it, she probably thought that I would think she's trying to get me to sympathize her." Then I remembered something, "Speaking of the punk, you do know that she left you two voicemails, right?"
Toriel nodded and sadly said, "Yes. I got them both."
"Hold up! You DID get her voicemails?" I asked, suspiciously.
Toriel nodded and said, "Yes, I did."
I glared at her and asked, "Then why the FUCK did you think I had killed Frisk? She literally said that she befriended me a while ago!"
Toriel sighed and said, "Truthfully? I thought you had backstabbed her. Killed her in her sleep when you came here."
I winced at this. "Okay, from what you probably think of me and Asgore, I understand what you're talking about. But, she really did win me over. But, seriously, you SHOULD call her."
Toriel shook her head as she sadly said, "But, I feel like I failed as a mother one too many times to call her back."
I glared at her and said, "Don't bullshit me, Toriel!" I slammed my hands on the table, cracking it ever so slightly, and pushing myself to my feet as I said, "That punk said that while, she was annoyed at you babying her, she saw you as a mother! And honestly, I'm not surprised! From what the other brats have told Asgore, they all said the same thing!"
This caught Toriel off guard and she said, "What, but they're…"
"Dead? Hah! Like something like death can stop those kids from talking. To them, death's more of a, minor inconvenience, than anything else." I got more serious as I said, "Turns out, that even as SOULs, the kids have full consciousness and awareness. They talk to each other all the time."
Toriel gasped at this and she asked, "Then that means…"
I shook my head and said, "I know what you're thinking, Toriel, trust me. Asgore and I had the same thought. Hell, even the kids have been throwing that idea around themselves. But, we don't even know if it's possible for the kids' SOULs to return to their bodies after the Barrier shatters. All we can do is speculate. Shit, for all we know, the SOULs could shatter after the Barrier breaks. And Asgore told the kids this. All so that we wouldn't get their hopes up."
"So, does that mean that, all those kids are, all alone, with just each other, then?" Toriel asked, tears in her eyes.
I glared at Toriel and said, "Listen, Your Highness, I know you couldn't think any of less of Asgore right now, but he deeply regrets what he's been forced to do, and what he's caused to happen to those kids. For fucks sakes, he talks to them on a daily basis. And do you know what he asks those kids every day?"
Toriel scoffed and gives me an off sided glare as she said, "Probably wondering when the last SOUL would enter the Underground, no doubt."
I ran to Toriel and lifted her up by her dress and slammed her against the wall, her eyes widened in shock and minor fear spread across her face. I gave her a cold glare as I said, "No, you old goat! Each and every day he goes before the SOULs and bows on his hands and knees and BEGS for forgiveness! Each. And. Every. DAY!"
Toriel gasped in shock, she seems to be doing that a lot tonight. "Yes." I said, as I gently placed her back on her feet before letting her go. "Asgore hates himself for both directly and indirectly being the cause of the deaths of six innocent, well, five innocent, children, and being forced to fight one to the death."
"Wha-what?" Toriel asked in shock. "He fought one to the death?"
I nodded, remembering that day will always be uncomfortable to, not only me, but Asgore. Even the kid hates remembering that fight. "Yes. And trust me, I watched the fight, as was my orders by Asgore. Your 'gentle' fighter, Triston. It seemed he was caught with Dust on his hands. And the previous Royal Guard Members assigned to Snowdin, Rodger and an old friend of his, Maranda, had caught him, and brought him to Asgore. After that, I had them both transferred to Hotland, and assigned the Dog Squad to Snowdin."
Toriel gasped in shock, tears in his eyes, "No, Triston, he, he was such a good kid. Despite his punkish looks. He wouldn't…"
I shook my head and said, "Yeah, but, that's what happened. And Triston didn't even try to defend himself. He straight up agreed to Asgore's order. But, as I watched, I saw, neither of them were into it. Triston didn't even utilize any healing items, despite them being given to him as a sort of fairness on Asgore's request. Not to mention, it looked as if Triston was pulling his punches. And Asgore was deathly silent during the entire ordeal. Then, when Asgore delt the final blow, as Triston was fading, Asgore asked him why he didn't try harder. Do you know what his answer was?"
Toriel shook her head as she said, "No, I don't, Undyne."
I looked down at my empty cup of tea and said, "He said, and I quote, 'While I didn't mean to hurt anyone, I don't want to take another life. Even if it means I can go home. I know I can't bring the ones I killed back, so, as my own apology, I'll allow my SOUL to be used to help free the monsters.'"
Toriel leaned down in in her chair as she said, "I thought that…"
I placed my hand on her shoulder and said, "I can't speak for the brat, because I hardly talk to any of them before or after I said farewell to Tiana, but I tell you this to prove that Asgore hasn't changed from the gentle king you'd once knew, but, Asgore actually tells each kid bedtime stories, asks them how they're doing, and tries his hardest to make their stay in their containers as comfortable as possible."
I took a few deep breaths, before saying, "While I don't like talking to the human brats, I can't really hate them. I'm more or less indifferent towards the rest of them. With Tiana, your ballerina, I at least respect her. Not to mention, Asgore talks to Amanda the most. He tries his hardest to be a sort of father figure to those kids and has done so for the past thirty years since Nathen surrendered his SOUL."
Toriel looks down at her hands, "I guess, even at the very end, Asgore once again proves that he was always the better parent then I was."
I shook my head and said, "That's not true." Toriel looked up at me as I said, "Listen, while it is true that you just let those kids go without you, Asgore always tells me that those brats always speak of you with high respect. In fact, I have a message to from Triston."
Toriel looked up at me as I said, "He said that he's sorry for disappointing you. That he couldn't be a pacifist like you taught him to be. He tried his hardest, but, it was an accident. While he may be the oldest, he's the one who holds the greatest regret."
Toriel looked up at me and she asked, "Are you going to tell me what happened to the rest of them?"
I was just about to, when I saw how tired and exhausted she looked, and saw that she needed time. I shook my head and said, "Not tonight, Aunty." She looked down in sadness, then I placed my hand on her shoulder, and I said, "Get some rest, for I'll be back tomorrow. And I'll bring the punks with me."
I watched as shock entered Toriel's eyes as she asked, "Wha-what?"
I nodded and said, "Yeah, I think Frisk and Chara deserve to see their mother again, what do you think?"
Toriel smiled softly at me as she started to get tears in her eyes as she said, "I, I would love that, Undyne."
I smiled warmly at her as I said, "Good to hear, Aunty. But, I think you should get yourself cleaned up, first thing tomorrow. Tonight, think about what I said, but, don't think too hard. Get some sleep."
Toriel smiled softly as she nodded and, "Yeah, you're right, Undyne. I'll do that."
I nodded, then as I stood up, I went to head back down towards the exit, but first I turned to her and said, "Oh, and would it kill you to at least keep in contact with Frisk? That kid's only really got Chara as someone to talk to. I understand if you wish to isolate yourself, and I promise you that I will leave you to your isolation, but stop cutting yourself off from those kids. They deserve to have their mother talking to them, okay?"
Toriel nodded at this, before saying, "Alright, Undyne. I'll try to keep in contact with them from now on."
I smiled softly at this as I said, "Thanks, aunty. I'm sure the punks would really be happy to hear from you again."
Toriel nodded as she led me back through the basement, as we headed towards the gates, I turned to her and said, "Aunty, I'm sorry for how I acted. I shouldn't have been so harsh tonight."
Toriel shook her head with tears glimmering in her eyes as she said, "No, don't be sorry. I was the one who abandoned the kingdom. That's why I enjoy your company, Undyne. You say what's on your mind, and never hold anything back, you give people the verbal kick in the rear that many need. Regardless of what others may think."
She started laughing a little bit, then she wiped her eyes before saying, "Maybe if I stayed, tried just a little bit harder, I probably could have convinced Asgore to try to settle things peacefully."
I nodded as I said, "Yes, Asgore says the same thing. He understood why you left, but some days he wished you had tried a little bit harder, pushed just a little bit more to get him to think about what should be done. Then maybe, the two of you could have looked after those kids together, while they were still alive."
Toriel looked down sadly as she said, "Some queen I turned out to be. Asgore declares war and death to all humans and I run away, taking Chara's body with me, and go into hiding."
I put my hand on Toriel's shoulder before saying, "Aunty, listen to me." She looked up into my eyes as I said, "While it is true that you failed as a queen, Asgore never blamed you for leaving. He also knew that you would have taken Chara's body with you, so you could give her the burial she deserved. Something that he would never be able to do." I turned towards the doors, and said, "Well, I guess this is it for the night."
I felt Toriel's arms wrap around me gently as she said, "Thank you for visiting, Undyne."
I wrapped a single arm around her as I said, "Hey, what are friends for, huh?"
Toriel giggled ever so slightly, then she let go of me before opening the doors, and I felt the chill of the snow hit my face. Then Toriel said, "I'll see you and Frisk tomorrow, I guess."
It seems that she was aware of the decision to keep Chara under wraps, good. I nodded and said, "Yeah, have a good night, aunty."
Toriel began closing the doors as she said, "You as well, Undyne." And with an echoing thud, the doors to the Ruins had closed.
I rubbed the back of my head as I asked myself, "Oh, Undyne, what have you gotten yourself into?" I looked towards the camera and said, "Hey, Al, what the hell have I gotten myself into?"
I knew I wouldn't get an answer, she's probably down in the True Labs, feeding the Amalgamates right now. "Hey, Al, if you see this, how about you and I watch some Anime later? I could go for something with mindless violence." And yet again, nothing. Not surprising there.
I sighed sadly as I thought, 'Why did I freak out when I learned the truth? It took me a month of getting her to open up to me before she was willing to show me what had happened to those who have Fallen Down.'
Truth be told, despite how I see Toriel, I'm a horrible person myself. 'After I freaked out, Al gotten much worse than she is now. That was one of the few times I fully went back to when I had that power. And now, while I know what I want to say to her, I'm not certain I can bring myself to give her this letter. Maybe that punk could help out. But not right now. There is something that tells me that it is too early.'
It wasn't long before I had returned to Town, and I went into Grillby's place. I saw that the Dog Squad was playing poker, as usual, and Lesser Dog was, as usual, playing by himself, and losing.
Shaking my head at his all too energetic, yet, sadly lonely life, he's a good pup, all he wants is attention. I then turned to the fire elemental and raised my fist and said, "Yo, Grill's! One cup of the usual, please!"
I watched as everyone in the bar looked towards me and the Pups gasped and all stood at attention and Dogaressa, who I always simply call Risa, said, "Captain!"
I shook my head and sat down at the bar as I said, "At ease, pups." Said dogs relaxed their stances as I continued. "I'm off duty right now, Risa. I just need a drink, it's been one hell of a day for me. Go back to your game." After that, the pups went back to their seats, but they seemed to be watching me from the corners of their eyes. "So, how about it, Grills?"
The pyro silently nodded and grabbed an empty cup and two bottles, one was filled with a dark blue liquid, extract harvested from purely silent Echo Flowers, and the other was filled a bioluminescent liquid, an extract from the Illumination Mushrooms, and began mixing them.
Both plants were easily obtained from Waterfall. Though, Echo Flower extract from silent Flowers tends to be more powerful then flowers that have been echoing. It's speculated that the silent Echo Flowers gives off a more pure taste because it hasn't been tainted by constantly being worn down by constantly echoing voices.
It's a very powerful alcoholic mixture, while extract from the mushrooms are more for flavor than anything else. And the Echo Flower is more or less water, or, at the very least, it has a raspberry juice esq flavor. Alone they're not much, even for booze. You'd hardly get buzzed from them. Hell, the punk could drink either one of them, and wouldn't even feel anything, maybe a burning throat, but that's about it.
But, once you put them together and you got one of the best drinks in the whole bar. And if you're not careful with the intake, you would get blackout drunk. Once my drink was finished, Grills placed it near me, and I gave him 50G and reached for my drink, but his hand never left the cup, and he gave me a long look.
I sighed, the first time I had this drink was after Asriel and Chara died, and I needed something to relieve the pain, so, I asked him for his strongest alcohol, and Grills gave me an unlimited supply of this drink for the night, and I got completely wasted that night. It wasn't a good night for me, nor was it a good morning afterwards. Damn hangovers.
I looked eyes with Grills and waved my hand as I said, "It's fine, Grills. Just had a long day today, and I need a little stress reliever. This is the only cup I'll be having tonight. Promise." I didn't really drink this all that often anymore, been trying to clean up in recent years.
In fact, ever since I met Al, I've been trying to straighten out my entire life. The only time I relapsed was after Yellow, er, after Mike. Although, with him, I couldn't sleep right for a few months.
I mean, sure, I help myself to a cup every once in a while as a treat, or if I've had a hard day, like today, but that's about it, despite not only calling it my usual, but also it being my favorite drink.
The most of these I can drink without it being too much to handle is three. After that, I tend to get violent. Which was why Grills never gives me more than three, even if I asked for more. Well, after the first night, he made sure to watch my intake. He was good like that.
And the only way for me to be put down when I get violent on the rare occasions, is when Grills puts me down. I bet I'm one of the only ones who knows this, but, Grillby was a former member of the Royal Guard.
Part of the official police battalion stationed over at Hotland. And despite him being a fire elemental, he was a cold hearted bastard to those who threatened the kingdom. But, after he had his first born, he retired, and shortly opened up this bar.
The reason why no one knows his past as a Royal Guard, was because of the fact that he always wore a personalized helmet that hid his identity. I only know it because I was the one who approved of his leave, and asked for his helmet, which I promptly destroyed. For I knew it was time for him to retire and STAY retired.
Grills gave me a long look, before silently nodding, and removing his hand from my cup.
While I was taking a sip of my drink, and that familiar burning sensation filled my throat, I watched as Doggo, whose eyes were darting over to Grills, because he was the only one he could see at all times, guess being made out of fire helps doggo get past his motion blindness weakness. Doggo then asked, "What happened, Undyne?"
Wanting to allow Toriel to stick to her peaceful, hermit, lifestyle, despite wanting her back, from what I saw tonight, she wasn't ready to return, nor was she anywhere NEAR ready for other visitors. So, I simply said, "Met that new kid today, you know, the one wearing that purple and blue stripped shirt, today."
Dogamy's eyes widened as he asked, "Really? You met that strange puppy?" His tail started wagging slowly.
I took another sip from my drink, before putting the half empty cup on the bar and said, "New pup?" Wait, he said strange pup, must be talking about Frisk. I smiled softly and said, "Yeah, I met her. Question, you do know she's a human, right?"
The dogs looked at one another, before Risa awkwardly chuckled and said, "Uh, not at first. But Cedric let slip that she's human. Uh, you're not mad that we befriended a human, are you?"
I waved my hand and said, "Nope. Not tonight, Risa. She's a good kid. Risked her life to save Cedric today."
Lesser Dog looked surprised at this as he asked, "Really? She's the one who saved little Ced's life? I thought Ced's said that you did."
I nodded with a small smile as I said, "Yeah, I did save them, but that damn brat almost got herself killed doing so first. And you kinda have a hard time finding things to hate about her once you get to know her."
That was when the rarest thing happened tonight happened, Grills spoke. "Not surprised at that. Especially seeing how Sans simply walked in here with her. And as you know, he's not too keen on humans after what happened with Triston, right? So, for him to even allow her to hang out with Papyrus, never mind bringing her in here, shows that she somehow got in his good graces."
Everyone was shocked to hear Grills talk. Especially seeing how he never really seemed to need to talk. Everyone always seemed to know what he was saying with just a look, he's a very quiet person, at least, when he's working.
I've heard from his daughter, Amber, that the reason he never talks at his bar is because he enjoyed the tranquility of his bar. And, while he owns it, he never wants the attention on himself. Shame that his jukebox broke a few days ago. I might send that to Al tomorrow and ask her to fix it.
I think Grills will enjoy having his jukebox back in working condition again. Plus, a little distraction might help Alphys a little. I'll even tell her to take her time with it. She hasn't had any real excitement happen around her lab lately.
I shrugged at Grills and said, "I guess you're right, Grills." I took a final swig of my drink, before saying, "Well, it's getting late. I better head back to the Bro's house before it gets too late."
Greater Dog looked a little confused at this and asked, "Shouldn't you get back to your house, Captain?"
I shrugged and with a little laugh, I asked, "What house? Me and the punk burnt it down cooking."
Everyone broke down laughing as Doggo shook his head and said, "Again, Undyne?"
I laughed at this and said, "Yeah, Paps tricked me into befriending the little human punk, a plan that, shockingly, succeeded. Welp, I better be heading back."
Lesser Dog then asked, "By the way, Cap, how's Red doing these days? We haven't seen her for a few days."
Ah, right. Little Red, practically The Dog Squad's adopted daughter, good kid, perhaps a little too soft for the Guard, like Paps, but unlike him, she's not afraid to hurt people to protect others. The Guard's the only family she really has.
I smiled at LG, who also goes by Odie, and said, "She's doing good, Odie, she was originally assigned to Hotland, but I assigned her to The CORE when Paps called me about Frisk. But, something tells me, that the two kids are going to meet each other."
Greater Dog just smiled goofy as he said, "I can almost guarantee that the two kids are going to be best friends! Right, Captain?"
I shrugged my shoulders and said, "I don't know. Red's, as Alphys' Anime characterizations go, a bit of a kuudere, maybe borderline Tsundere, if that. One thing I do know is this. She's going to try to fight the kid if they ever meet. But, knowing Frisk like I do now, she's not even going to pull out a weapon, and STILL win her over. Kid's got the power of Friendship on her side, hilarious as that sounds."
The pups laughed at this, then, deciding to leave before it got any later, I waved everyone off and said, "Well, night everyone!"
As I was leaving Grills' Bar, I looked into the forest, and I saw him, Flowey. He seemed surprised when I locked eyes, er, my lone eye on him, and he quickly burrowed underground. I sighed at this, 'Oh, Az. How could you have fallen so far?'
But, the sad truth is, he didn't fail us, we failed him. Me and Asgore tried our hardest, while Toriel tried to return to her motherly role, but, in the end, we all ended up failing him. In the end, I think only Chara would be able to get through to him better than any three of us. At least, before he started resetting, that is.
I once asked him how Chara had died, 'cause I was starting to suspect something, but, he only told us what we already knew, Chara died from a weak immune system, and he died because the humans thought he had killed Chara.
Shaking my head, I headed back to the bro's house. Once I got back inside, I began looking around, and yep, the punks are fast asleep, the only, now I see that Chara and Frisk are snuggling close to each other.
I smiled softly at this, for it reminded me of the old days when Chara needed Az for emotional support in order to get any sleep. Now it seems that Chara has taken Az's place of the teddy bear for Frisk. It's actually kinda cute, if I do say so myself. Clearly, this wasn't the first night they had done this.
Shaking my head, I took my place beside them, before covering myself in the blanket. Before I fell asleep, there was something that I thought of. 'Is it possible that Frisk is the Angle of legend. The legend does say that it will be someone who has seen the surface. But, there was always a line that many forget. 'They will return, and the Underground will go empty.' So, now that both Chara AND Az have returned, either one could be the Angle. Or, for all I know, it could actually BE Frisk.'
I shook my head, before I could think that just maybe the 'angle' was all a big joke, and we have been part of the world's biggest prank in history, as well as the cruelest prank towards the Kingdom that has ever been told. But I highly doubt it.
Deciding to ignore this annoying thought, I closed my eyes and fell asleep.
When I woke up, I noticed there was a smell of pancakes in the air. I also felt fucking groggily, damn drink. Even though I only had one drink, I still got a minor headache from it.
I sat up, and headed for the kitchen, where I heard Frisk's voice say, "Alright Paps, now just let it simmer for a few seconds, then gently flip it, understand?"
Wait, she was teaching HIM how to make breakfast now? Heh, makes sense, I guess. When I entered the kitchen, I saw Frisk sitting on Paps right shoulder, reading a cook book, probably about pancakes, Paps, with a spatula in his left hand, and an apron that said, "KISS THE SEXY ROBOT" on it.
I really didn't like Mettaton, something about him just, gives me a bad feeling, I mean, he's a good guy, and all that, but, I don't know. Oh, and Chara was floating behind them, she noticed me and waved, smiling at her, I waved back.
That was when Frisk traced her finger down the book, probably seeing the next step, smiled, then she patted Paps and said, "Okay, Paps, according to the book, now you can flip it. Gently this time. Or else we'll have a repeat of the last time." I looked up and saw that there was a single pancake stuck to the ceiling. I had to hold back a chuckle at this.
Paps nodded said, "RIGHT, FRISK! NYEH HEH HEH!" He then gently flipped the pancake, which landed on its opposite side, and started sizzling.
Deciding to let them have their fun bonding experience, I returned to the living room, and sat down on the couch. I turned on the TV and started looking for something to watch. But, there was nothing good on today. That was when I felt a breeze fill the spot right next to me, I sighed and said, "You're really asking for it, aren't you, Sans?" I glared at the shorter skeleton.
Sans just shrugged and winked at me. "what? i just woke up myself."
I rolled my eyes and said, "No, you've been up longer than I have. I know this because you NEVER wake up on your own, especially not this early. Paps probably woke you up before he and the punk began making breakfast."
He shrugged and said, "welp, ye caught me. guess i'm boned now." He then winked at me. How these two are able to wink as skeletons is a mystery that I don't think I ever want to know.
I rubbed my head in annoyance at this, "God, no wonder you and the queen get along so well. You're both terrible joke tellers."
This got Sans attention, "eh? water you talking about, 'dyne?"
Lightly growling in frustration at the terrible joke, I said, "You remember the punk mentioning the women who adopted her when she came down here?" Sans nodded, "Well, she's the same women you go off and tell jokes to. Oh, don't think I don't know, you're never where you should be when I check up on you."
Then I got a little serious as I said, "Plus, I went to visit her last night, your friend, is the missing queen of the Underground. Queen Toriel Dreemurr."
This seemed to slightly surprise him, then he said, "huh, friends with ta queen, yet i take orders from ta king, that's, surprisin'. guess my promise ta protect the next human has a bigger meanin' now, huh?"
This surprised me, "YOU made a PROMISE? Sans, you hate promises more than doing actual work. And don't think I don't know about you reading car magazines instead of doing your actual job."
Sans laughed as he said, "yeah, i hate makin' promises, 'dyne, 'cause ye know, ye have ta keep 'em. but, she enjoyed my terrible puns, and someone who loves bad puns as much as i do, just has an integrity you just can't say no to. 'sides, not like i regret protectin' frisk, right?"
I, regretfully, nodded, and said, "True, she is a good kid and all that. Plus, I don't doubt that she could win Asgore over, she could probably do that in her sleep. The problem comes with Asgore himself. You and I both know he's not going to make it easy for her, right?" Sans nodded, that permanent grin forever on his face.
There was a time when he shown more emotion then he does now, but after the constant RESETs, he just started to put up this fake smile. I don't think he even knows how to drop it anymore. The only way you can see his real emotions is through his eyelights. When they're there you can kinda tell how he's feeling. But, once they're gone, you can tell he's dead serious. But, once they start glowing, well, you just don't want to see what he's like when his eyes glow.
I wanted to talk to him about it, but I didn't, not with Paps and the kids just in the other room.
Ten minutes of peaceful silence ended when Frisk, with Chara floating not that far from her, came strolling into the living room, where she happily said, "Well, we're not sure how well we did, but breakfast is ready!"
I watched as Sans shook his head and casually said, "careful, kiddo, if ye keep tis up, ya might just end up becomin' a permanent part of ta family, ya know?"
Frisk giggled a little as she said, "Yeah, I know, Sans, maybe I should just start calling you 'Uncle Sans' now, huh? Or would 'Punkle' Sans be more fitting?"
Me and Chara groaned at this, while Sans and Frisk chuckled at this, meanwhile Paps yelled out, "CURSES, SANS! YOU CORRUPTED THE HUMAN!"
This time all of us chuckled at this, because Paps was obviously joking. I mean, Paps himself has a love of jokes. But, not as big as Sans. Deciding to get everyone moving, I said, "Well," I clapped my hands as I said, "let's eat!"
Everyone nodded and headed for the kitchen, and saw a stack of pancakes, fresh off the stove top. It seemed these kids were able to make a seemingly good meal. 'Huh, maybe it's not the fact that Paps is a bad student, maybe it's because he's had the wrong teacher.' It was then that what Frisk said last night came back to me.
"But your cooking skills are atrocious."
I hated to admit it, but Frisk was technically right. I was never a good chef, even when Toriel tried her best to educate me, I just wasn't patient enough to take her lessons seriously. And I just wanted things done as fast and passionately as possible. I smiled softly at this, for it seems that Frisk was able to do what I had been failing to do. Teach Paps. Or, at the very least, they both learned together.
Half an hour later, and a surprisingly delicious breakfast later, Paps was holding Sans under his arm, he gave me and Frisk a thumbs up, before saying, "WELL, WE GOTTA GET TO OUR POSTS. WHAT ARE YOU LADIES GOING TO DO?"
Frisk was going to say something, but I beat her to it. Placing my hand on her head, I said, "I plan on taking the kid somewhere, then I'll lead her to Hotlands afterwards. Or, at the very least, the entrance."
Frisk looked up at me in surprise, those ruby red eyes of hers seemed to almost sparkle, she then asked, "What?"
Chara, equally confused as to what was happening, nodded and asked, "Yeah, what?"
I smirked at the two girls and said, "Well, Frisk, it's a surprise." I gave the two punks a smirk. Couldn't really wink, seeing how the eyepatch hides one of my eyes.
Paps gave us a thumbs up, same with Sans, even though I know he'll only be at his Hotland station today. Though, the fact he was at his station in Hotland yesterday would have been suspicious, in fact, it WAS suspicious, but, seeing how Toriel asked him to look after Frisk, I can see why he was there. He probably saw that Frisk wasn't going to Hotlands, and decided to head home.
Besides, it is Thursday, after all. San's is always stationed here in Snowdin every Monday and Tuesday. While he's over in Waterfall every Wednesday. And Hotland every Thursday and Friday.
While Paps is ALWAYS here in Snowdin. Sans is able to be in multiple places at once due to his 'Shortcuts.' For only being thirty years old, he always seemed to have plenty of time on his hands. And Paps is more passionate about his work, he just gets distracted easily.
Alphys says that, from some of the medical books that falls from the surface world, Paps seems to showcase traits of ADHD, or at the very least, ADD. And, I might have to agree. Though, for being only fifteen, it could just be his rambunctious, young nature. Now, Cedric, that kid definitely has ADHD for certain.
One of the many good things about Paps, is his can do attitude, his insistence on being neat and tidy, and his willingness to please.
Plus, I'm not a terrible captain, I always let Sans and Paps get the weekends off. 'Sides, the Pups are always stationed every day, they like working.
We all watched as the bone brothers headed off to their stations. Once I was certain the brothers were out of hearing, I turned towards the girls, and while Frisk was picking up her satchel, Chara looked at me with a skeptical expression, something that I was used to seeing on her face in that first year alone, and only now do I realize, how much I missed that expression. Anyways, she then asked, "Undyne, what are you planning?"
I smiled and waved my finger as I said, "Uh-uh. That would be spoiling. And I want this to be a surprise." I then grabbed Frisk by her shirt and threw her on my shoulder, and she clung to my neck for dear life for a moment, before I lifted her once more and sat her down on my shoulder. While Chara was floating behind us.
Then, bending my knees, ready to jump, when I felt Frisk tightly gripped my neck and asked, "Uh, Undyne, can we just, walk to wherever we're going? The last time you did this, I was feeling woozy. And I think, after eating, if you do this, I'll throw up on you."
Shrugging, knowing that I didn't want upchucks on my last, and currently ONLY, clean shirt, I nodded and I began walking. During the walk, Frisk asked, "So, does this surprise you have for me related to where you went, Undyne? I heard that you went out last night from Carrie."
I nodded with a grin and said, "Yep! Your big sister, Undyne, decided to do something late last night?"
"Big… sister?" Frisk slowly asked in complete and total confusion.
I nodded, my grin growing even bigger. "Yep. You said it yourself last night, didn't you? You thought of us as your family, so why don't I fill the role as your irresponsible, life threatening, and psychotic, big sister?"
Both Frisk and Chara both started laughing at this and Frisk said, "Yeah, you got the psychotic part right…sis." She then blushed in embarrassment as she said, "Sorry, this is all just, so new to me, Undyne. I never had a real family, and the other kids at the orphanage weren't really siblings, and…"
I nodded and said, "Yeah, yeah, I get it. The matron was your only big sister role and crap. But, don't worry, I'll try not to kill you again."
Chara groaned at this and said, "Undyne, can you kindly NOT joke about that?"
I just laughed at this, and proceeded back to focusing on our destination, after a while we passed by the, wait a minute. "Hey, wait a minute. Did Paps make this look like a wooden bridge?" I asked no one in particular. I was too distracted in my thoughts last night to remember the bridge.
Frisk looked at the bridge ahead of us and said, "Hey, this is where Paps had his 'Gauntlet of Deadly Terror', right?"
Chara nodded and said, "Yeah, I noticed that it seemed a little, off. Wait, that's it!" She then snapped her fingers in realization as she said, "Now I remember why this bridge seemed off the other day! This is a natural rock formation! I completely forgot!"
I nodded and said, "Yeah, it is, or, it's supposed to. By the looks of it, Paps probably did all this for a little flair."
Chara laughed at this as she said, "The bridge was the last thing on our minds. If Paps wasn't such a softy, he'd have caught Frisky right here!"
And Frisk nodded as she said, "That's right! Paps had everything needed to, not only capture me, but probably accidentally kill me, if he wasn't careful. The thing had EVERYTHING! Torches, cannons, spikes, a swinging mace, Toby, that white Annoying Dog, for some reason. It was truly terrifying, but, looking back on it now, I can tell that he really went all out on this."
I smirked at this, "Well, I guess Paps really was enthusiastic about capturing you after all, huh punk?"
Frisk smiled softly at this as she said, "Yeah, but, if I'm being honest, Undyne, when I first saw it, I was terrified of it. And I think that's why Paps decided against using it. See, I had been having such fun solving his puzzles, that we kinda bonded over our shared love of puzzles, while at the same time, me and Sans kinda bonded over terrible puns and practical jokes."
Okay, I'm impressed at this. "It sounds like I really underestimated Paps. And yet, I was right all along. He's too soft to be part of the Royal Guard."
I watched as Frisk frowned at this, then she asked, "Isn't there anything else he can do in the Guard, Undyne? Surely there's more to the Guard than fighting, right?"
I sighed at this, knowing that she only wanted what's best for Paps, and I could understand her. "Yeah, but, the only other option I could think of, is for him to train the new recruits."
"Then why don't you let him?" Frisk asked innocently.
I looked at the little punk on my shoulder and asked, "What did you say?"
Frisk smiled as she said, "I said, 'then why don't you let him?' You said it yourself. It's not that he's weak, he's just too soft, right?" I nodded, not really knowing what she's getting at.
"So, why not have him train the new recruits? That way, he gets to fulfill his dream of being in the Royal Guard, and you don't actually have to send him into danger where he could get hurt. I mean, I know there are people out there who words alone cannot reach. I'm a kid, not naïve or stupid."
My eyes widened in surprise as I realized, this punk was right. You didn't HAVE to fight on the front lines to be part of the Guard. "How the fuck are you this smart, punk?"
Frisk giggled as she said, "Well, I'm a pacifist, and it seems Paps is one as well, so I just thought, 'Where would I fit in?' Or, 'What would be the best thing I could do if I was as strong as Paps?' Then, I realized, if he can't fight alongside others, why let his skills go to waste, when he could train others?"
I smirked at this punk and said, "It really is like you are a Monster who was born as a human, Punk."
I rubbed her head playfully, and she squealed happily, I smiled softly at this, for the more time I spent with this punk, the more I realized how different she is. She really cares about others. "I like your way of thinking punk, but I must make certain that Paps is fully capable of training rookies. I'll probably get one of the new recruits to come over to Snowdin and be a test subject."
Chara seemed to smile softly at this. "I may find him somewhat annoying, and overeager, and loud. Very loud. But, I really do think he deserves to show that he can do some good in the Guard."
I nodded at her, agreeing with her. Paps is a really good guy, and I thought that he had an impossible dream ahead of him, but, it was I who was making it impossible.
It was true, too. We really didn't have many Monsters down here who are actual trainers. After all, I'm kinda the one who does ALL of the training for the new recruits. Besides, I think that the punk is right. Paps is no pushover, for someone his age, he's pretty tough, it's his kind heart that prevents me from making him a Royal Guard. If not for that kind and gentle SOUL of his, I would have made him an honorary member after he completed his training.
"Hey, wait a minute. Are those, the Gates to the Ruins? Why are we here?" Frisk asked in total confusion, getting me back on topic.
I smirked at this and said, "It's all part of the surprise, punk." I then walked closer to the doors, and cleared my throat before knocking, while chanting, "Little goats, little goats, let me in."
I heard Chara gasp at this, and I smiled, and nodded. That was when Tori's voice rang out, "Not by the hair of my chinny chin chin."
I smirked at this, as I cracked my knuckles then said, "Then, I guess I have no choice, but to open these doors myself!"
It was silent for a short while, before the quiet Snowdin Forest began to be filled with the sounds of metal moaning and groaning, and the three of us watched as the Ruin doors began opening up once again, while this was happening, Chara turned to me and asked, "You talked to mom last night, didn't you?"
I said nothing and simply watched as the doors finished opening, and there was Toriel, more cleaned up then she was last night, and she appeared to be wearing a different robe, still the same design and everything, but, cleaner. But, she seemed to be smiling at the kids, be it, with tears in her eyes. I gently lifted Frisk up and placed her on the ground. Toriel wiped the tears from her eyes, then she knelt down, and said, "Come here, my child."
Tears in her eyes, Frisk ran towards Toriel, and cried out, "Mom!" I watched as she was enveloped into a great big, motherly hug. "I missed you, mom." Frisk said, overflowing with emotions.
Toriel nodded softly as she said, "I missed you too, my child. I'm sorry I haven't answered your calls it's just that…"
But Frisk shook her head and said, "No, don't worry about it. I'm just so glad to see you again, mom." And Frisk deep in Tori's arms, I swore, I saw a single tear in her eyes.
It kinda brought a tear to my eye, seeing the reunion between a mother and her adopted daughter. This. This right here is why I did this. Not for myself, but for this kid. She's been through quite enough, after all.
I may be known as a ruthless bitch to some, but this punk, she has wormed herself into the lives of many, myself included, and so little time, and has been denied the right to be herself, and CHOSE to come down here. And, it's probably the same reason why Chara came down here. To die.
But, instead, the first person she meets down here, was Chara. No doubt, if Chara's SOUL didn't attach to Frisk's, the kid would have probably accepted death from whoever came after her, or, she would, had it not been for the DETERMINATION she possesses. Truly, the most cursed power one can possess down here.
Toriel then said, "Let me see your hand, my child."
Frisk looked up, then lifted up her left hand, the very one that Cedric had bitten, then Toriel removed the bandages that were on it, and she lightly hissed at how it looked. I mean, it wasn't bad, but, the bite marks were still there.
"Undyne told me what you did out there, Frisk. And while I'm proud of your willingness to help others, you need to be more mindful." She then placed her hands over Frisks, and a light green glow surrounded her hands.
When the light died, Toriel removed her hands, and Frisk's hand was free of the marks. Frisk looked in awe at her hand, then she said, "Magic is awesome!" Apparently, there is a little kid buried underneath all that maturity.
I watched as Toriel slightly turned to Chara, and I could tell that their eyes locked.
Toriel gave her a single smile, then she stood up, brushing her usual, purple, Royal robes, and said, "Well, why don't we head in? I made tea and Butterscotch-Cinnamon pie."
I smiled softly at hearing this. For it seemed that she was starting to get back into her old ways. We all nodded. and proceeded to enter Toriel's home. Deciding to give her a hand, I proceeded to assist her in closing the gates, truthfully, it kinda felt like old times. Once the large doors were closed, me and Toriel turned back to the kids, and Toriel, who was starting to have tears develop in her eyes, looked down at Chara and said, "Chara, my child. It's so good to see you again."
Chara was surprised at this, her eyes were wide as she asked, "You mean, you can see me now?"
Toriel nodded and she opened her arms once more, this time for Chara and she said, "Come here, my child."
Chara hesitated for a short while, but a friendly push from Frisk, and Chara floated up to Toriel, and the two embraced into a warm, familial hug. "Oh, my child. How I had missed you."
Chara was starting to get tears in her eyes as well as she said, "I missed you too mom. I'm sorry."
Toriel shook her head as she brushed Chara's hair and said, "There's nothing to be sorry about, my child."
But Chara shook her head, tears starting to fall down her face. I turned to Frisk to see if Chara was just being over emotional, but instead, I saw that she had a sad smile on her face, and she looked very uncomfortable. I knew something was up.
I knelt down to Frisk and asked, "Hey, Punk. You know something, don't you?"
Frisk looked up, a sad smile on her face, as she nodded. "Yeah, I do. But I'm not going to say it."
"And why not?" I asked, confused as to what Frisk had meant.
Her smile faltered slightly as she said, "Because, it's not my story to tell. And, well, I'd rather not say." If I didn't want to know about Chara's past before, hearing Frisk say something like that, only hardened my decision not to know.
I mean, I'm a solider, I've seen some horrible shit while living down here. I have seen monsters lose themselves to their grief, and, well, let's just say that the kids are lucky that things have gotten a little bit better in recent years. But if this kid is this uncomfortable about it, someone who was able to brush off their own death, then if I knew the whole story, I'd probably want to throw up.
Before I was able to try to extract anything, Chara pushed gently out of Toriel's arms and said, "How about we have some of that tea and pie. Then…" She swallowed hard, before saying, "And I'll explain how everything that has happened down here is all my fault."
Me and Toriel were sorta confused to this, but Frisk seemed to nod in agreement, as she offered her hand to Chara, and with a soft smile, she took Frisk's hand into hers, then she said, "How about it, mom?"
I watched as Toriel nod her head as she said, "Well, I guess I did go through all this trouble to prepare my house for visitors. Plus, Undyne said that she would explain what happened to the other children."
Both kids looked at me, and Chara asked, "You mean, you know what happened to them?"
I nodded and said, "I'm captain of the Royal Guard, Punk. Whatever your dad knows, he tells me. Now, why don't we go and enjoy a good meal?" Everyone nodded, and I grabbed Toriel's shoulder, and said, "Why don't you punks go and get yourselves set up. We'll be up in a minute."
Chara and Frisk nodded, then they proceeded to head upstairs. Once they were out if earshot, I turned to Toriel and said, "It seems there's more to what happened all those years ago then we thought, huh, auntie?"
Toriel nodded, then she said, "I just can't believe that she's back from beyond. And the way she's so calm near Frisk, it's…"
"Strange, right?" I asked the former queen.
To which she nodded and she said, "To think, just four days ago I allowed Frisk to stay in my home, and now, I have my daughter back." She then looked down sadly as she said, "If only Asriel came back as well. Then maybe, we could all go over to Asgore, and have him end this stupid war." She then started walking upstairs.
I flinched at hearing Az's name. 'Oh, Auntie, I'm just glad that you don't know.' I then thought of something, so I said, "I think it would be best if we kept the whole, 'kids SOULs are conscious' thing between us, auntie."
She looked like she was going to argue with me, but I shook my head and said, "No, listen to me. Chances are, they're going to find out on their own. They don't need more weight on their shoulders right now. They're already dealing with so much as it is. Plus, they seem to be enjoying their little adventure throughout the Underground. If they were to know about the kids, it could, not only dampen the mood a little bit. Plus, Frisk, she might become a bit, I don't know how to explain it. I mean, she had a complete one-eighty personality shift when I simply referred to one of the kids by his SOUL color."
I actually resisted a shiver at hearing how dead serious she had become. "Especially coming from such a, dare I say it, sweetheart, like Frisk. Hearing her go from joyous and cheerful, to serious, it kinda freaked me out a little bit. She's a very empathetic kid from my observations. And, I don't know how she'll react if she learns that the kids are 'aware.' And that's not to mention Chara."
Auntie nodded as she said, "Yeah, you're right, Undyne." We then followed after the kids.
When we came up stairs, Frisk was sitting in what used to be Azzie's chair, with her satchel resting on the back of the chair, and Chara was sitting in her former chair, except, it seemed that Frisk had moved Azzie's chair to be right next to Chara, and the two seemed to be in a deep conversation. "And then, just when it seemed like Azzie was going to surrender, Undyne came out of freaking nowhere, with a snow bolder twice her size, and suplexed it right on top of me! It was awesome!"
Frisk suddenly burst out in laughter at this, "Oh, my! Ah ha! That's funny, Chara! So, what happened after that?"
Chara gave her a cheeky grin, and said, "Well, after getting buried underneath a few feet of snow, I had to dig myself out, and because Azzie was having trouble breathing, due to him laughing himself half to death, I was on my own. And when I finally did dig my way out, I was a shivering mess. That was when Undyne decided to bring us back home, and mom almost launched one of her fireballs at Undyne. It was great!"
I started laughing at this, because, apparently Chara had just told Frisk of her first snowball fight, or as I call 'em, Snow Wars. Toriel smiled softly at the girls as she said, "I am so glad to see that you too have been getting along with each other. When Undyne first told me about you two, I admit, I was worried."
We watched as Frisk and Chara began to blush very deeply, and that was when Frisk nervously pulled at her shirt collar and asked, "What, uh, what exactly has she told you, mom?"
Toriel walked next to Frisk and Chara, before hugging Frisk before saying, "It's okay, my child, it's okay. You're safe here, right?"
Frisk was surprised by the hug, but slowly she leaned into the hug, and became more relaxed. Then Frisk said, "Yeah, you're right mom. But, does that mean that you, know?"
Chara began looking around nervously, but auntie giggled softly as she said, "Yes, Undyne told me about you two, my children."
Chara, who was blushing deeply, turned her head to a wall, staring at nothing in particular, then she asked, "Uh, you're not upset, or anything, are you mom?"
Auntie giggled at this, then she brought both children into a hug and said, "Oh, my child, I could never be mad at you. I'm just glad you finally found someone who makes you happy, Chara." She then turned to Frisk and said, "And you, thank you so much for what you've done for Chara so far, Frisk."
Frisk blushed bright red as she said, "It was nothing, mom. I mean," She then grabbed Chara's hand and said, "it wasn't easy for us, you know, forming a solid friendship, at least, at first. It took us a while to find some kind of solid ground to, well, stand on."
Chara lightly laughed at this and said, "Yeah, we weren't really the best when it came to first impressions. That's for certain."
Hearing this caused Frisk to laugh, "Yeah. But, as we made our way through the Ruins, we started opening up, I think that, by the time we got here, our friendship was stable." Then she remembered, "Oh! Weren't we supposed to have a meal, mom?"
Toriel looked surprised, then she giggled and stood tall as she said, "Oh, dear! I've been so distracted, that… One moment please."
Toriel then walked over to her kitchen, and a minute later, she returned with a tray with four cups of tea, four plates of pie, and her teapot. She also had the brightest smile I have ever seen on her face. She then started to pass out everything, while she did that, I took a seat, soon, auntie took hers as well.
While Frisk was smiling brightly, Chara looked down at her plate, a sad expression on her face. "Yo, punk! What's with the down and gloomy look?"
I watched as Chara looked down at her plate and said, "Well, it's just that…"
That was when Frisk gently grabbed Chara's hand, giving it a gentle squeeze, which Chara gently returned. The two looked at one another, and it also looked as if they were having their own private conversation as well. Truth be told, the girls having some freaky telepathy, actually makes a lot of sense. But, still, four days underground and they're already this close?
Honestly, I was completely surprised beyond comprehension. The Chara I knew absolutely HATED physical touch, from ANYONE. At least, until her third year living down here. Yet, here is Frisk, probably the only one other than Asriel who managed to get Chara to open up so much.
As harsh as it sounds, while we were all extremely close to Chara, it always felt as if she kept us at an arm's length. Like, she was terrified to get too close to us. And, before her death, it actually started to feel like she was making that final step to opening up completely. But then, she died.
After what felt like a lifetime, Frisk looked away from Chara and towards us and said, "Chara, as you can tell, is a ghost. And, we don't really know if she can ever eat anything. The only thing she has eaten since I had met her, was a ghost sandwich from Napstablook."
Toriel sighed as she said, "I'm, I'm sorry, Chara. Things are happening so quickly that…"
Chara shook her head and gave Toriel a kind smile as she said, "It's alright, mom. I'm still not used to being, well, I don't know WHAT I am right now. Am I alive? Am I dead? Somewhere in between?" She shook her head before saying, "All I do know is that I'm a ghost, whose SOUL is bound to Frisky's."
Toriel wanted to speak, but Frisk beat her to it. "Carrie, sweetie. It's okay. I really don't care that you're a ghost or not, because you're the first real friend I've ever had." She then wrapped her arm around Chara's waist and brought Chara closer to her, then she kissed her on the cheek and said, "And no matter what, always remember, I will always love you."
Chara blushed deeply at this, before turning away in embarrassment while saying, "God damnit, Frisk! Mom's right there! Can't you stop flirting, for like, one day?"
Frisk chuckled lightly as she slowly let go of Chara and said, "Um, no." Chara turned away with her arms folded and huffed. She look completely annoyed, minus the fact that she is completely flustered, making her annoyed expression completely irrelevant. Then Frisk continued saying, "I'm a flirt, Carrie. That's my 'Magic' ability. We've been bound to each other for four days, you should know this by now."
Chara, whose blush seems to be darkening, nodded lightly at this and said, "It doesn't change the fact that mom and Undyne are watching us! Just this once, can you turn down your flirting. Please, Frisky?" Chara asked, her eyes darting towards the floor. "For me?"
Frisk seemed to think Chara had had enough for the moment, then she said, "Alright, Carrie." She then kissed Chara on the cheek and softly said, "I'll try to turn down my flirting as much as possible."
Chara looked at Frisk gratefully as she said, "Thanks, Frisky."
Frisk giggled softly as she said, "But don't expect me to turn it off completely. Because that's just who I am, dear."
Chara sighed as she rubbed Frisk's head playfully and said, "I know, hun. But remember what I said, step by step. I appreciate what you've been doing, I really do. But this is still all new grounds to the both of us, remember what I said before. Let's just take this one day at a time, okay?"
Frisk nodded as she gave Chara one last kiss on the cheek and said, "Okay, Carrie. I'll try my hardest." Chara didn't say anything, because her face was a deep red of embarrassment.
Me and auntie laughed at this, Toriel then said, "I think it's really sweet, Chara. I mean, I when your father and I…"
Chara quickly covered her dark red face and said, "MOM! Please don't bring up what you and dad did when you were younger! I don't want to hear that! Besides, you and dad were worse than Frisky!"
Auntie giggled as she said, "Oh, I don't think we were THAT bad, Chara."
Chara gave auntie the most deadpanned expression I have ever seen as she said, "Need I remind you of the trophy you guys have of nose nuzzling championship of '98? Not to mention that you guys were always embarrassing me and Azzie with your affections!"
Toriel giggled a little at this, and a small blush could be seen from her fur, as she said, "Okay, you made your point, dear." She then silently proceeded to pour all the tea, it really seemed like one big family meal. Now, if only Asgore and Asriel were still here. As who they were, not as they are now. A broken king, and a soulless flower.
After that, me and Toriel took our seats, Frisk looked down at the slice of her pie, then she took a small bite of it, and I swear to the Angle above, her eyes turned into fucking STARS! Stars that, not only sparkled, but fucking SPUN! It was like I was watching an anime scene!
Toriel saw this and said, "My child, have you not had the slice of pie I made you a few days ago?"
Chara shook her head and said, "No, she hasn't. Truthfully, I think she forgot all about the pie."
Frisk rubbed the back of her head awkwardly before asking, "Uh, you're not mad, are you mom?"
I watched as Toriel smile warmly at this as she said, "No, I'm not mad, Frisk. In fact, I'm glad you could be here so I can see your reaction. It reminds of Chara's first time having my pie."
Chara blushed the deepest shade of red of the day, but I bet that Frisk would be able to turn her all sorts of colors of embarrassments if she so tried. Soon enough, we were all eating some of the best fucking pie I've ever had in over a century. Not to mention the tea was pretty good as well.
"Frisk, I think that pie I gave you would be more useful to eat when you encounter Asgore." Auntie finally said after taking a small bite of her own pie.
Frisk looked confused as to this, as she asked, "Why is that, mom?"
But Chara was the first to answer for a change, "That's right! ButtsPie was dad's favorite desert!" Then Chara had a strange expression as she asked, "But, wouldn't that mean that we're using you against him, mom? I thought you hated him, but this seems, excessive."
Then auntie shook her head and said, "I know it may have seemed that I hated him, Chara, especially with how I reacted the last time you saw me."
She then looked down sadly before saying, "And, I'm really sorry you had to see me like that, but, despite how I acted, I don't hate him, I just, hate what he's done since you and Asriel died. But, maybe, if your father will be able to see you, then maybe, just maybe, you and Frisk could convince him to end this stupid war."
Chara seemed to smile ever so slight at time, but, then auntie said, "However," Both kids looked at her in confusion as she said, "try to be discreet out there. I know young love can be something beautiful, but Frisk, if Chara had indeed asked you to keep her a secret, even to the point of keeping herself hidden from her own mother, it was probably to protect yourself, wasn't it, dear?"
Chara nodded as she said, "Yeah, it was. And I'm sorry myself mom. I should have told you. I mean, Frisky here asked if I wanted you to know I was here. But, I thought that, after a hundred years, you had finally managed to move on, and if she had mentioned me, it probably would have hurt you."
Toriel nodded at this as she said, "I can understand your reasoning, Chara." She took a sip of her tea, looking down at it, smiling sadly as she said, "And when you hugged me and promised to protect Frisk, you gave me hope. Hope that maybe, just maybe, one of the kids I saved would be able to convince Asgore. But, Frisk…" The embodiment of sunshine herself, looked up in confusion, then Toriel asked, "What is it that you plan on doing when you get to Asgore?"
Frisk sighed as she leaned back into her chair as she said, "Well, I'm hoping to just, talk to him. Convince him to end the war, and maybe, let me live here, in peace. With my new family."
Toriel's eyes widened at that, before they softened, then she said, "I hope, with all I can, they you're able to succeed in this mission of yours. But, didn't you say you want to break the Barrier as well?"
Frisk nodded at this, as she took the final bite of her pie as she said, "Yes, and I still wish to do so. But, the only possible way for that to succeed is if I surrender my SOUL, and allow Asgore to break the Barrier. I mean, maybe we could think of a way to break the Barrier in another way, but, I can't really think of it. Maybe, I could ask Asgore to let me pass through the Barrier, head to my village's cemetery, collect one single SOUL, and come back here, but…"
Me, Chara and Toriel all looked uncomfortable at this, Chara sighed in defeat as she looked towards Toriel and asked, "Mom, can we take this to the fire place?"
Tori nodded as she said, "Yes, my child. We can." Auntie looked towards me and said, "Undyne, you can grab the chair in my room, okay?"
I nodded, and headed for her room. Before I opened it up, I saw that it said 'Mr. And Mrs. Dreemurr' on it. It looked as if Toriel went to scratch at 'Mr.' but couldn't do it. Goes to show that, despite all that Toriel went through, and how much she hates Asgore for doing what he needed to do for his people, she couldn't bring herself to make that final cut.
It was really sad to see these two like this. Back before their children died, they were madly in love with one another. But now, seeing the king and queen's relationship fall apart like it has, it really hit the Kingdom hard.
I shook my head, and slowly opened up Toriel's door, and saw that her room was a dark blue. I saw her big blue chair, right at her desk. And there, right at the back of the chair itself, was a simple sticker spread across it. I smiled softly at this. "Chairiel." I shook my head at this. Because I remember the day that Chara and Asriel jokingly called this chair, Chairiel. Guess the name really did stick, after all this time.
Sighing to myself, I picked up the small wooden chair, and carried it living room, where I saw that Toriel had lit her fireplace, and she was in her chair, with Chara resting in her right arm, and Frisk in her left. Toriel was truly a natural born mother. And here she is, proving it to me.
As I set the chair down on the opposite side of Toriel, and sat down. Everyone was quiet, just enjoying the crinkling of the fire, and we just stayed like this, truly enjoying the peace and quiet. That was when Frisk spoke up. "Undyne, you said you knew what happened to the other kids, right?"
I sighed at this. For I knew it would only be a matter of time before someone asked about the brats. I sat up straight in my chair as I looked towards the ruby eyed girl. I nodded and said, "Yes, I did. Does that mean that you are all ready to know their stories?"
One by one, the kids and Toriel nodded at my question. I leaned back into my chair and I asked, "Okay, Frisk. Seeing as you and Chara are the only humans in the room, let alone the entire Underground, I'll let you two make the choice of how I do this."
At that, Frisk and Chara once again looked at one another, and said nothing, just staring into each other's eyes. Further proof that these two have some sort of telepathy. And, seeing it in action is actually, kinda creepy.
Then, after a few more seconds, Chara nodded, seemingly coming to some sort of agreement, then they both turned to me, before Frisk could answer me, I said, "Okay, for the record, I know that you kids have to do that in order to keep Chara a secret, Frisk. But, seeing it in action, that telepathy shit, is kinda freaky."
Frisk blushed in embarrassment at this, then she said, "Uh, sorry, Undyne. It's just that…"
I nodded and said, "Yeah, I get it. It's something you're used to doing, right?"
To which Frisk nodded and said, "Yeah. I mean, we talk to each other when no one's around, but we try to use our mind reading powers, or, as you call it, telepathy, to be as discreet as possible."
I nodded at this, understanding it. "I get that, punks, I still find it creepy." I shook my head and asked, "Alright. So, what order are we going to be learning about the other kids?"
Frisk sat up straighter in Toriel's arm as she said, "Well, me and Carrier have come to decide that we should learn about them in the order in which they fell down here."
I nodded and said, "Okay, so you want to go Nathen, then Triston, then Amanda, then Mike, then Justin, then Tiana, huh?" Both kids nodded at this. I sighed and said, "Alright, then. Well, word around the Underground is that, Nathen had been down here for a solid year. He made his way through Snowdin and Waterfall without much issue. Truthfully, from what I've heard from Alphys…"
Chara then asked, "That reminds me, who is Alphys? We heard from Shyren that she's the new Royal Scientist, but, what's she like?"
I chuckled at this, for, it seems that even as a princess, Chara is still a little kid. But, it was Al they were asking about, and they at least had to know who they'll be meeting very soon. "Well, truthfully, she's a good person. Very intelligent, dedicated to her work, and has been spending the last twenty years trying to figure out a way to break the Barrier without SOULs."
But I shook my head. "She's also a nervous nelly, if I'm being honest. I think her problem is that she takes her job too seriously. And she has a habit of going on these long tirades about her anime."
I watched as Frisk raised an eyebrow as she asked, "You mean those cartoons that have a tendency to be filled with violence and occasional bloodshed?"
I smirked as I asked, "Yeah, as a matter of fact, I do. Of course, when she first introduced them to me, she called them 'human history.'"
I watched as Frisk and Chara shared an expression, then kinda started to sweat, and I understood why. "No need to hide it. I already know she lied about it. And, I completely understand why she did so. Just, uh, don't tell Al I know. I want to tell her myself when I get the chance."
Everyone looked at me in surprise as I said, "It's one of the reasons why I respect Tiana a bit. She explained that she believes that Al only said that because she was too afraid that I would think she's a nerdy loser, and I wouldn't want to hang out with her."
Toriel looked surprised at this, "But, why would she think that, Undyne?"
"Al, well, Alphys, she has some bad anxiety, and not much in terms of confidence. And I'm, well…"
"About as subtle as an explosion, and as confident as GOD!" Chara said teasingly.
I laughed at this, "Yeah, you could say I intimidated her a little bit." I shook my head after this, getting more serious. "However, getting back onto the brats. Nathen, ended up being the kindest kid many would have ever met. Helping out strangers, giving them recipes that he has come across on the surface, and even using his own cooking to calm a few people down. Truthfully, he was a lot like you, Frisk. Never resorted in violence, and instead, used his cooking to make friends down here."
Frisk raised her eyebrow at this, then she asked, "If he was the kindest down here, then how did Asgore get his SOUL? I mean, Gerson mentioned that one just, GAVE his SOUL to him, was that…?"
I nodded and said, "Yeah." Though, I wasn't really happy to say it. "Nathen really was way too kind for his own good. He and Asgore had a nice chat, drank some tea, 'cause, you know your father, Chara, he loves his tea. And Asgore explained everything that has been happening since you and Az died. Nathen, wanting to help out even further, simply, surrendered his SOUL to Asgore. No fight, no argument. Just, gave it up willingly."
I looked up at the ceiling, now that I think about the kids, despite my hatred towards humanity, most of them didn't deserve the deaths they gotten. Especially not Amanda. I looked back down at the girls and said, "After Nathen, well, I'm sure you two heard about Triston, right?"
Frisk and Chara nodded their heads, "Good. 'Cause I hate having to remember what that kid did." And so does Triston. "Anyways, I'll keep Triston plain and simple, 'cause I don't like remembering what he did. He was brought to Asgore by the Royal Guards I had employed here, back before the Dog Squad became Snowdin's official Guard Patrol. Well, he and Asgore fought to the death."
"WHAT!?" Frisk and Chara cried out in shock?
I nodded in sadness at this. "Yeah, and trust me when I say, not a single one of us enjoyed it. Asgore was dead silent, and Triston, kid didn't even try his hardest in the fight. In fact, I think he was actually pulling his punches. And I, well, I had to watch as two people who didn't want to fight, fought to the death." I really hated to admit it, but, Triston, really showed his bravery until the very end. Brat didn't whimper, didn't cower, and didn't argue.
I sighed as I said, "At the very end of it all, Triston pulled his punches, and Asgore claimed his SOUL. I really think Triston allowed your father to kill him, Chara, because he couldn't live with the guilt of hurting innocent people. But, his own Bravery prevented him from taking his own life. And he chose a death that he felt he deserved. He went down swinging, even if he couldn't bring himself to kill another person."
Frisk sighed at this. "So, they had to fight to the death? They couldn't talk things out?"
I sighed at this and said, "Frisk, listen, Triston was the second human to fall down here since Chara died. And this was the first time a human has killed monsters since the war nearly two thousand years ago. We thought the days of humans killing us were over. Trust me, when word got out that Triston was killed because of his crime, people weren't really happy about it. They thought that he would be imprisoned until the seventh SOUL was claimed."
And boy, people weren't really happy to hear that Triston was dead. Many were even saddened that Triston was killed. Even the families whose loved ones were killed were saddened. "Asgore always said that we shouldn't allow ourselves to fall to the humans level of hatred, but, at the time, Asgore had to make a choice. But, Asgore said that it was Triston's wish to fight. And, as his duty as a fair king, he had to respect the choice that kid made."
Frisk looked sad at hearing this, and I knew it was only going to get worse from here on out. "What happened to Amanda, Undyne? What happened to that adorable gardener of mine?" Toriel asked showing that she too, despite not knowing her name until recently, grew attached to the youngest human to ever fall in the Underground.
I flinched at this, because really, aside from Justin, Amanda's death was by far, the saddest of them all. I looked at the kids and asked, "By any chance, did you two ever encounter a Snowdin resident by the name of Chilldrake?"
The kids shook their heads and Frisk said, "No, but we did meet one by the name of Snowdrake. Are they related, by any chance?"
I nodded and said, "Yeah, Chilly and Snowy are actually brothers. Snowy wanted to be a comedian, like their folks, while Chilly entered his rebellious, teenage years. Going into some kind of rebelling against something or other. He says that he wants to cause anarchy or whatever, but, that's not the point."
I was rambling again. Truthfully, Amanda didn't even get a chance to make friends down here. I may have tried to kill Frisk, but… "You see, Amanda had just entered the forest when Chilly came out to "Spread The Word Of Anarchy", or some sh-, er…" Toriel was giving me that death glare she gave me when she learned that I taught Chara how to flip people off.
"Anyways, the thing was, when Chilly jumped in front of Amanda, it scared the ever living daylights outta her. And she ran away from Chilly. But, she wasn't looking where she was going and…"
I winced at remembering Chilly coming into Asgore's throne that day with Amanda's body on his back, looking completely saddened. "and she ran head first into a tree. Hard." I watched as everyone flinched at that, and I nodded, solemnly. "Yeah, she got buried underneath a mountain of snow." Everyone shivered at the thought of this.
I nodded, rubbing my own arms at this. "Now, while Chilly is all about anarchy and whatever, he's still a good kid. He actually doesn't want to hurt people, so, when Amanda got buried, he, as quickly as he could, dug Amanda out, and threw her onto his back and ran as fast as he could to the Snowed Inn and brought her inside to warm up, while he waited outside all night."
Ugh, there's good fucking reason why I don't like thinking about the kids. Most of their journey's here are a bunch of fucking sob stories. It takes you by the heart and squeezes you dry. I shook my head as I said, "Anyways, when Chilly left Amanda in the care of Lola and the rest of her family, they did all they could to warm her up, Teressa even closed her shop early to help out. But Amanda was already breathing weakly. They did all they could for her. From giving her a warm bath, serving her hot soup, but… sigh it was too late. They put her to bed with a warm blanket and a fire place lit, with Lola watching over her throughout the night, hoping that she would be fine by morning, but…"
My silence was all that was needed. I tightened my fist tightly. "She was just a little kid, and didn't even GET a chance down here. Now, I may have tried to kill you, Frisk, but, Amanda, she was so young. Still a guppy herself. When Chilly came in to Asgore's throne room with her on his back, Asgore practically broke down. After that, Chilly went into hiding. We know he's still alive, thanks to regular check ins from Snowy, but, other than that, the Rebel without a cause hasn't been seen since Amanda died."
Frisk and Chara actually looked deeply sad at hearing this. "Fuck me." Chara sadly said after a long moment of silence.
"CHARA!" Toriel yelled at her daughter. "What have I told you about your language?"
Chara looked to the side as she said, "Sorry, mom. It's just that…"
But Frisk moved over next to Chara and brought her into a hug. She didn't say anything, but, that was probably because they were having a mental conversation. But Chara ended up snuggling into Frisks arms, and Frisk began to brush Chara's head. I really can't believe that Chara has allowed Frisk to be this affectionate towards her in such a short amount of time.
I could tell that Toriel was sort of jealous at this, but, at the same time, happy. Happy that Chara finally had someone outside the family and me to actually be attached to, someone other than Asriel to open up to. Chara opened one of her eyes before softly saying, "Sorry about that."
"Anything you want to share, punk?" I asked a little curious as to why Chara reacted in such a way that seemed so out of character for her.
But, instead she shook her head and said, "No. Not right now. I want to know about the other kids, before I reveal my own secret."
I nodded, curious as to what her secret was. But I shrugged, then I said, "Next was, Mike Denbrough. I'm sure you punks have heard of him. Snowdin's local sheriff, Amanda's adopted brother, right?"
Both kids nodded, then I said, "Well, sigh, well, the kid was wandering through Waterfall, he made it pretty far, if I do say so myself. In fact, he just wanted to say goodbye to his little sister, and, he probably would have made it all the way too Hotland without anyone stopping him, however…"
I watched as Auntie started to glare at me as she asked, "Undyne, what did you do to that young cowboy?"
I leaned back into my chair, even to this day I have dreams about this kid every once and a while. I closed my eyes as I said, "All he had to do was stay out of my sight. People told him that I was one of the most dedicated to my job. All he had to do was stay out of my sight, and he would have been fine. However…"
I opened my eyes and looked towards the listeners and said, "Mike wanted to know about his sister too much, and he walked up to me and demanded that I told him what happened to his sister." sigh I really didn't want to mention this story.
But I had no choice. "I smirked at him, and said that all he had to do was best me in combat and I would have told him everything. Of course, I was putting up a font, Amanda still hurts, just thinking about her, but I couldn't show weakness. So, I got ready to start a FIGHT with Mike, but, that kid, he wasn't in the mood for playing. He had the quickest draw I have ever seen."
I reached for my eyepatch and slowly began to move it. "Truthfully, I don't think he meant to harm me. I just think he was firing a warning shot, and expected me to dodge it. I mean, I saw the attack coming, but, well, Chara, Toriel, you know me." And then, I removed my eyepatch, showcasing the empty socket that was left of my eye.
Everyone lurched at seeing it, and truthfully, so did Al and Asgore when they first saw it. I covered my eye back up as I said, "I took the hit head on, not really expecting it to do much. But, it turned out, the kid was a magician. Or, at the very least, he had traces of magic in him."
Frisk and Chara gasped at this and Chara asked, "You mean, even after all this time, there are still people who have magic running through their blood? I thought the days of magic users were over."
I shook my head and said, "That's what I thought as well. But, it seems like magicians still exist to this day. Frisk, you mean to tell me that no one you knew possessed magic?"
Frisk shook her head and said, "No. Not a single person. Then again, the people of my village, well, I say village, but it was more or less a small town. But, the humans there…" She hissed out humans like they were a poison, and this shocked both myself and Toriel. Frisk seemed to be this innocent little cherry blossom. The physical manifestation of sunshine itself in human form. But, for her to sound like this?
Chara grabbed Frisk's hands and said, "Hun, please, just drop your hatred. Speaking from experience, hatred will get you nowhere but pain and suffering. I know you don't like what happened to me because of the humans, but, please, just let go of your hatred. Take it from me. Your hatred won't change them. So, deep breaths. Can you do that for me, hun? Take a few deep breaths?"
Frisk nodded as she took several deep breaths, before she looked down and she said, "Sorry about that. But, no, back in my town, no one really even liked talking about monsters. Never mind magic."
It was really creepy seeing that punk act like that. Frisk, on the outside, seems to be the person who wouldn't be able to hate anyone, but, then again, this just further proves my suspicion. She does know Chara's past with the humans, and this even further shows that she has some sort of empathy. Or, it could be their SOUL connection. Everything about Frisk and Chara's SOUL attachment has never been seen before.
And now, I am now one hundred percent sold on not wanting to know what those bastards did to Chara.
Shaking my head I said, "Right. Anyways…" Everyone looked back at me as I said, "what happened next, happened so fast that, well…"
Toriel glared at me like a disappointed mother, and she had every right to be. "Undyne. What. Did. You. Do?" She asked me very slowly.
I tightened my fists and placed them on my knees as I said, "Something that I regret to this very day." I never wanted to say this to anyone, but, I had to. "I didn't mean to do it, I SWEAR! But, when Mike shot my eye out, I lost control of my emotions for a single second. And all I saw, was red."
Chara looked terrified at this, and she asked, "Undyne, you didn't. Did you?"
I really hated this.
sigh
"Look, I'll be blunt. Just to get it over and done with. When that sharpshooter shot my eye out, I was blinded by anger and pain, so I wasn't thinking straight. I threw my spear through his chest, and he started coughing up blood."
Everyone gasped in horror at this, then I said, "I didn't mean to hurt him like that! Trust me. Seeing him die like that, Chara. It reminded me of your final days. I freaked out. I tried to tell the kid to hang in there. Tried using the little I knew about healing to make him feel better, but healing was never my specialty."
"Undyne." Frisk said in a soft voice.
I shook my head and said, "The brat seemed to know that his time was running out, and all he asked for, all he wish for with his final breath, was that his SOUL would be placed next to his sisters. And after that, he closed his eyes, for the final time."
The room went quite after that. Truthfully, I wasn't able to sleep straight for a while after that day. And when Mike gained consciousness as a SOUL, I went up to his golden yellow SOUL, and apologized for killing him. But, Mike stated that it was he who should apologize. He always was a bit over eager, and reckless about things.
He never was known for his patience, that was why his sister helped keep him in check. Even though Amanda is younger than Mike, he, as she puts it, just needs an anchor to keep him grounded. In the end, it was Amanda who gave me the final forgiveness/apology.
While she was upset her brother was killed, she fully understood that it was an accident, and that, in the end, it was Mike's own fault for getting himself into trouble. But, she did admit that we were both to blame. A fucking seven year old should not be that smart, she should have been allowed to grow up. After that, well, I tried to avoid going to talk to the kids.
I could see that Toriel was conflicted in her emotions, then I sighed and said, "Go ahead and hate me for what I did. Trust me, I hated myself for months after what I did."
No one said anything for a while. Then Frisk sighed as she said, "Undyne, I don't think anyone could actually blame you for what you did."
Toriel nodded, be it, slowly as she said, "I agree with her. You're not at fault. While I am upset that you murdered Mike, you lost control over your emotions and reacted without thinking." She then sighed as she said, "Now, what happened to Justin? What happened to my bookworm, Undyne?"
Both Frisk and Chara looked down sadly at this, "Let me guess, punks, Gerson told you about Justin, didn't he?"
Both kids nodded without speaking, I sighed, knowing that they were letting me speak. "Alright, from what a lot of people say, Justin never bothered anyone with FIGHTs, unlike Triston, in fact, when others encountered him, he always seemed to be taking notes about them. It was kinda like he was studying them."
Toriel giggled at this as she said, "Yeah, that sounds like Justin. He liked taking notes about his surrounding, and the people nearby. He was very observant about things, and wouldn't go into a situation blind."
I smiled very softly, so softly that no one noticed as I said, "At first, people were worried that he was looking for weaknesses to us monsters, but, when someone finally worked up the courage to ask him about it, he said that he didn't care about fighting, and was more interested in collecting data. And that, because monsters haven't been seen on the surface in such a long time, he wanted to know as much about the type of people who lived down here."
I lightly chuckled at this as I said, "Truthfully, I get the feeling that he and Al would have gotten along swimmingly. He liked learning new things, from the history down to the very people, no doubt, the two of them could have collected data on the Illuminating Mushrooms as well as the Echo Flowers, and still have some kind of fun."
I sighed as I finally got to what needed to be said. "But, then, he got to Temmie Village."
Toriel was surprised at this, and she asked, "The Temmies? But they were the biggest lovers of humanity. What could they…"
But I interrupted her and said, "They did nothing wrong, Tori. It's what happened when one of them simply touched Justin that things went wrong."
Toriel asked, "What do you mean, Undyne?"
"Justin was deathly allergic to Temmies, mom. One simple touch was all it took, and, well, you get the rest." Chara said, sadness in her tone.
Frisk said nothing, and just pulled her into a deep hug, one which Chara fully leaned into. I nodded and said, "Yeah, the Temmies are still shaken up by Justin's death. So much so, that Bob, the "leader" of the Temmies forbid any Tems from interacting with humans unless he gave the okay. Gerson found Justin's body, and called me. I, myself, was sadden by Justin's death. For it was another unfortunate accident down here."
"So, of the six that fell down here, only one was not caused by a monster? Or did Tiana…?" Toriel started.
I shook my head and said, "Tiana was, Tiana requested that her SOUL be taken in her sleep. That way, she didn't have to feel any pain, and it would be like a dream." It was strange though, a few days after Tiana died, I obtained that power. Could Tiana…
Toriel sighed as she said, "Why did Tiana ask Asgore to take her SOUL?"
I shook my head as I said, "I wish I knew. She never made it clear why she wanted her SOUL taken, other than wanting to help other monsters. But, I think her reasons are known only to herself." I leaned back and sighed slowly as I opened my eye and said, "And that's that. That is how every one of the punks have died and their SOULs obtained by Asgore. As you can see, Tori, not all of the kids were so ruthlessly murdered, as you had mistakenly thought."
Everyone was silent, no one said anything, I allowed everyone to digest everything they had heard. After a few minutes, I looked at Chara and asked, "So, Punk."
The crimson eyed dead princess looked up at me and asked, "Yeah?"
"You said you had your own secret to reveal?" I asked, curious as to what deep dark secret Chara could be dealing with.
Chara actually shivered in fear at that, which was very suspicious, and I had a feeling, that I wasn't going to like what I would be hearing from her. It was really freaky seeing Chara shake like a leaf like that. I mean, she hasn't done that since the first three months.
Then, when it appeared as if she was going to have a breakdown, Frisk held her tightly and started rubbing her back while she said, "Carrie, calm down. I know you never wanted anyone to know, but, they're your family. They deserve to know the truth." Chara started to calm down in Frisk's arms, it was insane seeing this.
It's really like Frisk had this superpower to be able to make Chara feel comfortable without even trying.
Even Toriel was worried at this. And I was starting to put the pieces together. I sighed and thought, 'Well, guess we might finally be learning something that Chara has been keeping from us. But, I'm not certain I want to know.'
We watched as Chara slowly floated out of Frisk's arms. The princess looked very sad, as if, what she was about to say next, was something she didn't want to say.
Chara looked down at each of us, before taking a deep breath and said, "Mom, do you remember the day you finally let me back into the kitchen after my…attempt? When me and Azzie tried to make dad a pie?"
I watched as Toriel sighed and nodded as she said, "I do, Chara. And, while I was upset that you thought that the buttercups were an ingredient, I should have made the directions more clearer with the 'Cups Of Butter' ingredient. But, what about it?"
Chara nodded, then she looked down sadly as she said, "Well, It wasn't a weak immune system that killed me. I killed myself."
Me and Toriel gasped in shock as we asked, "WHAT!?"
We watched as Chara started crying, before she covered her face as she screamed out, "IT WAS THOSE STUPID, GOD FORSAKEN BUTTERCUPS!"
My and Toriel's mouths dropped in shock.
Thechaosmaster: Whoa boy! Fina-fucking-ly! After so long, this chapter is fucking done and over with!
Red: Boss, not to be offensive, but, it kinda feels like nothing happened in this chapter.
Chaos: Yeah, I know. I feel the same, but, while this was more or less, filler. It wasn't supposed to be that way, but, as I think I said up top, this chapter kinda wrote itself, and it kinda got outta hand. I planned that this chapter would have the reintroduction to Toriel, reveal how the kids died, and head off into Hotland. That didn't happen.
Red: Speaking of kids. Holy shit!
Chaos: Yeah. I know. Now, for Tiana, the reason she doesn't have much on her death is because, I couldn't really think of anything good for her. I had several ideas here and there, one of the stupidest ones was that Flowey killed her in jealously, but, then that would interfere with something else. Something that you guys and girls have noticed in this chapter.
Red: Yep, and if not, Chaos based this idea off of a fan theory he heard a while back.
Chaos: Yes, indeed. The idea that Undyne had control over the timeline. That is how she was able to remember Frisk LOADing. And, well, yes, Undyne is aware of Flowey being Azzie.
Red: Well, how about you get to the reviews? You have work in the morning.
Chaos: Right.
Hieroglyph Pharaoh: Yeah, I like writing Frisk as an unapologetic flirt. It really fits in with her character. And CLEARLY she's a great big ball of sunshine! Lol! And Chara and Frisk both being Angles? Yeah, I can see that. And, I can't wait to see where this goes myself!
Halloween Witch: Heya, friend! Don't worry about being late! Take your time to review, I know you have your own thigs to take care of. Also, I hope your surgery goes well!
Make sure to take time for yourself. And, yeah, I love writing these cute moments between the girls as much as you love reading them. It always makes me smile knowing I make people happy and entertained from my writing.
And, just a small thing, I didn't change anything from the Golden Flower Tea, Frisk just offered her Sea Tea that she got from Gerson's as a gift to Undyne.
And, also, yeah, Paps is a secret genius, isn't he? I myself enjoyed writing everything that happened in Undyne's house. And the conversations, yeah, I'm like, Quinton Tarantino in a very less regard. Fight scenes are my weak points, but writing dialogue is a specialty of mine.
And yeah, I didn't mean for it to turn out this way, but, Undyne burning her house down really has become a regular occurrence in the Underground, hasn't it? And of course, how could I not end it all at the Bro's house? I like the team up cooking session with Frisk and Undyne, it was really cool, wasn't it?
Well, I hope you do well, I send my regards, take care of yourself. See you next time, my friend!
Kamorek: Eh, oh well, I was hoping that you knew the answer to why we were trash. Guess that's a question I will never know. And, yeah, as I said with Witch, the Undyne house moments were very fun to write, glad you enjoyed them. And the notification stood on your phone for a week? Can't say I know the feeling. Whenever I get a notification, I always check it. Yeah, life is weird, isn't it?
Thechaosmaster: Okay, people, a month and a half of writing my fingers to the bone, and I am now done and over with this chapter. Please, enjoy it, and leave a review, I like hearing from people, it helps with my confidence, and as Red said up top, stroke my ego, not really, but, it helps me understand what everyone is thinking. Well, This is it for tonight. Also, don't expect another chapter from me for a while.
Why? Well, Waterfall taught me to plan things out better, or at the very least, divide my chapters better. SO, until I finish all of Hotlands, I am Thechaosmaster, and it was nice being here again.
CHAOS CONTROL!
