Valentine's Day Special: set sometime in early season 2 | Part 1

It was February 13th and Michael was beating himself up for not preparing or planning something sooner. This was going to be his and Nikita's first Valentine's Day together and he had nothing. Lately, their missions have been a little crazy. The planning took a lot of time and the execution as well. They were, of course, a great team and with Birkhoff on their side now things went at least better than before. But it took away sometimes from their relationship. Even their friendship with Birkhoff. They didn't have time to just hang out and not worry about anything for two seconds.

They got home early that morning and focused on unpacking and cleaning up their gear. It was always better to do that first and then start relaxing after a tough mission. While Nikita and Michael were doing that Birkhoff was going mad around the house doing his own nerdy thing. The couple knew better than to ask. He would brag about it eventually.

After Michael and Nikita were done they headed to the kitchen to make something to eat. Birkhoff followed shortly after. "We were gone for literally 2 days and you managed to empty out the fully stocked fridge that I left" Michael glared at Birkhoff.

"Well, maybe I have finally decided to listen to Nikki and eat more than chips and take care of my health. '' It was obvious that even he didn't believe his own words.

Michael groaned. He really didn't want to have to go to the grocery store right now. As he thought about it, however, maybe it wasn't that bad of a situation actually. If he was going into town to shop he could also look for something to do for Valentine's day. He couldn't take Nikita anywhere for obvious reasons but he could at least do something romantic.

"So listen up kids. I'm flying to Boston tomorrow morning and I'll be there for a few days…" before he could continue Michael interrupted him.

"Boston? What are you doing in Boston?" To his knowledge, they hadn't gotten an alert or anything and the hacker never went out into the field especially alone. Maybe it was not about Division but for what else could it be.

"I'm a businessman" Nikita chuckled at that "Laugh all you want Nikki but don't ask to use my planes again or my drones or all the tech surrounding this house"

"Okay, we get it. Back to the point" Michael was not about to listen to another rant of "Im awesome" by Birkhoff. He knew the hacker didn't share this casually. Something was following after that.

"As I said I'll be gone for a few days so behave yourselves. No running around chasing different leads, no touching my stuff. Shadownet is going to do its thing and you won't miss anything. I have double-checked the security system around the house so everything is set and perfect"

Nikita and Michael threw each other a look and busted laughing soon after. "Calm down, mom. I promise we won't be doing any parties while you are gone" Michael quipped and got Nikita to laugh more. Birkhoff rolled his eyes. He went to his room to pack his stuff since there was no food in the house. He should have at least left some for himself.

Michael returned back to his original thought about going to town."I'm going to go to the store. You want something?"

"To go with you" she chuckled. They couldn't risk getting picked up by Division's radar so when they had to go out for something they had to keep a low profile. If only one of them went the chances of being spotted were lower.

"I know" He smiled softly at her but internally he was jumping up and down that they had this procedure in place because otherwise, it would have totally screwed up his plan. "How about some ice cream or all the kinds of chocolate that they have?" He grinned sweetly at her. As much of a healthy eater Nikita was, she had a toddler's sweet tooth.

"You better stop right there cause I will really make you get everything" And with how much he loved doing things for her and making her happy she was sure he would actually buy everything she wanted. "Okay. Text me if you really want something" Michael grabbed his keys, gave her a few goodbye kisses and was out the door.

The food shop was easy and quick. He did get extra things that would make her happy and Birkhoff was not going to be there to eat them all. He had a loose idea of what he wanted to do for tomorrow. He was going to spoil Nikita the whole day.

He got things to make her favourite breakfast. He found things to decorate the room with like flower petals and candles. It was also perfect timing for Birkhoff to go to Boston. The couple had the house to themselves. He thought of little activities they could do around the house together. Hopefully, that was going to be enough to make the day feel special.

Michael got done with all the shopping and headed back to the safehouse. He had to be careful when unloading the bags to not accidentally bring in one of the bags that had everything for his surprise.

"Hey, what took so long? I had to play video games with Birkhoff the whole time you were gone" Nikita chuckled. She loved her Nerd but watching him yell for three hours in front of the big screen was not fun after the first hour.

"Aww, I'm sorry. It was really busy at the store and then traffic hit" They shared a kiss and moved together to unpack all the groceries. Michael then started cooking while Nikita just hung around the kitchen keeping him company and distracting him from time to time. Conversation and jokes were flowing easily, as always between them, so Michael decided to casually ask something that had been on his mind "Hey, I was wondering if you have any ideas for what you want to do tomorrow?" He thought he might not have been the only one to think of something to do for tomorrow. It was only fair to take into consideration what she wanted to do as well.

"Tomorrow? We have nothing to do tomorrow so I don't know. Workout, relax, maybe walk around - the usual on a day off." Nikita wasn't looking at him while talking thankfully because he threw her the most dramatic look.

"You want to workout tomo-" Michael very quickly realized before even finishing asking his question that Nikita had no idea what tomorrow was. He wasn't angry or mad at her. It was funny actually.

"Baby, what day of the month is it today?" He was going to have fun teasing her about it. At least he knew he didn't totally screw up by preparing something for her last minute. He asked her very nonchalantly while grabbing something from the fridge. He didn't tear his eyes away from her face though.

"Ehrm.." she looked at the calendar on the wall "the 13th? Yeah, it's Sunday, so the 13th." Micheal barely stopped himself from laughing. She still didn't get it.

"Okay. Now, tell me what date and month tomorrow is?"

"What?"

"Just follow along, trust me" he leaned against the counter next to the stove. Nikita was sitting at the kitchen island across from him, eyeing him suspiciously now.

"14th of February - oh shit" Nikita slightly gasped at the realization. How could she have forgotten? She also didn't think they would have made a big deal out of it even if she did remember. If Michael was asking, though, that meant he had something in mind which made her feel bad because she had totally forgotten.

To her surprise, Michael laughed and stopped her from apologizing by kissing her over and over again. She continued, however even when they broke away "I feel so bad and now I know you have something planned which makes it worse" Nikita whined and looked away.

Michael lifted her chin and pecked her lips again. "It's not a big deal. Look, if it's going to make you feel better I didn't have anything until today so stop. "

"At least you remembered.." Nikita murmured while he pulled her in his arms. "Come on, we are going to have a great time. We will be alone. We can do whatever we want. Just two of us." he whispered over her face. "Okay, no presents, though, right?"

Now it was Michael's turn to look away. He knew that he had to talk with her before getting her anything but he just couldn't resist. "Michael!" She groaned and buried her face in his neck. "I only got you one" he was tempted to get more but Birkhoff would have probably not liked that.

"As if that makes it better" She pulled away slightly and pouted her lips.

"Okay, how about this - you take the first half of the day. We are going to do whatever you want and I will take the evening. That way we have each contributed. Although, I do really want to at least make you breakfast"

"I guess that works. How about we make breakfast together. We can return to bed after if you want breakfast in bed so bad." She knew that the idea of cooking together would make him very happy.

"Yeah, you want that?" He smiled brightly. Nikita nodded and leaned in for a last kiss. "Now, you are on your own because I have lots of work to do, thank you"

Michael laughed and let her go. He originally planned on not saying anything but he was glad he did. At least Nikita wouldn't have felt bad tomorrow when she realized after everything he had already done.

When Michael was done he, Nikita and Birkhoff had an early dinner. The hacker went straight to bed shortly after. He had an early flight to catch and he said goodbye to the couple since he wasn't going to see them in the morning for sure. The couple watched a movie in the living room while teasing and joking around. Nikita's mood has substantially improved and Michael was relieved to see that. After the movie, they decided to head to bed as well. They deserved an early night for once in their life.

Michael woke up before Nikita, as he usually did. He loved those peaceful moments early in the morning. It was quiet and peaceful. Nikita presented the most adorable and gorgeous picture even sprawled out almost on top of him with all the covers around her.

He managed to slip away to go make coffee. Then he was going to wake her up so they could make breakfast together. That was her wish and he was going to honour it even though it was tempting to surprise her with breakfast in bed.

"Good morning, love" He left the cups of coffee on the nightstand and reached for her. She was already awake when he walked back to their bedroom. "Good morning" she murmured while yawning.

They shared a morning kiss or two until Nikita fully pulled him back into bed and flipped them. Now she was on top of him straddling his hips. He tried to sit up but she was holding him down strong, laughing. "Close your eyes"

Michael lifted an eyebrow and couldn't help the little smirk that was creeping in. "Come on, just close your eyes. I don't bite"

"Well…" He could definitely argue with that one, although he wouldn't mind it. Nikita pinched his side playfully and nudged him to again, close his eyes. He finally complied. She even covered his eyes with her hand to make sure he didn't peek. He felt her pull away slightly and heard the drawer on her nightstand open and close.

"Okay…you can look now" She withdrew her hand from his eyes and he opened to see her holding something. He reached for it. It looked like a card but it was the drawing on the front that had him mesmerised. "Is that what I think it is?"

Nikita nodded happily. Michael couldn't stop studying it. It was a sketch of two people from the back on a rooftop having dinner on a pile of blankets under a beautiful night sky. It was as if someone had snapped a picture of that moment between them last year and put it on the card. He remembered that night so vividly. Nikita had called him over for an alleged lead she had on a back box. When he got to the loft there was no lead, though. Only his gorgeous girl that had a whole evening planned for them that had nothing to do anything else besides them being together. It was his favourite date that they had had.

"Nikita, this is a fucking piece of art and I'm framing it" Nikita laughed brightly. If he was swearing that meant he really loved it. "Thank you, now will you finally open it" he had been staring at the drawing for a while, still in a trance.

He chuckled and opened it.

"If you were my rose, then I'd be your sun,

painting you rainbows when the rains come.

I'd change my orbit to banish the night,

as to keep you in my nurturing light.

If you were my world, then I'd be your moon,

your silent protector, a nightlight in the gloom.

Our fates intertwined, two bodies in motion

through time and space, our dance of devotion.

If you were my island, then I'd be your sea,

caressing your shores, soft and gentle I'd be.

My tidal embrace would leave gifts on your sands,

but by current and storm, I'd ward your gentle lands.

If you were love's promise, then I would be time,

your constant companion till stars align.

And though we are mere mortals, true love is divine,

and my devotion eternal, to my one valentine."

"Oh, poppet" Michael sat up rapidly and embraced her tightly. "Can you also write or something?" He was so taken back and he felt his eyes watering.

"No, no. Not that gifted. I came across this years ago and I remember rolling my eyes when reading it for the first time because I was sure that no one could actually feel this towards another person. Well…I was wrong"

He held her even tighter and kissed her hard trying to express everything he was feeling right now. "It's barely 8 am and you already destroyed me with this." He chuckled when they pulled away for air. She brushed the tear that slipped away from his eyes and kissed the wet spot on his cheek.

They held each other like that for a few more moments until the smell of coffee brought Nikita back from their moment. "I see you've made coffee -"

"Not breakfast though" He interrupted her before she could finish. Michael knew what she was going to say.

She got up and pulled him out of the bed after her. He put his card neatly on the nightstand, grabbed the cups of coffee and they both headed to the kitchen. On their way there the couple passed the living room and Nikita spotted something on the coffee table that wasn't there before. Michael continued walking to the kitchen but she stayed back and walked to the coffee table. There was a fancy bottle of wine next to a note.

"Why did no one tell me it's Valentine's Day? Anyway, behave you two and have a good one.

PS lucky bastards for having the house to yourselves" - B

She laughed brightly. At least they wouldn't have to break into his stash of expensive alcohol. And it was sweet of him, even if he had only left the note. He constantly tried to act like the couple's presence annoyed him but they knew that deep down he cared for them as they did for him.

"Michael, come look at this." She called for her boyfriend. When he came and saw the hacker's little surprise he laughed as well.

"Do I have to return the other wine I took from his bar now?" Michael had already covered everything for their romantic dinner including the drinks. He was sarcastic, of course. He wasn't planning on returning the bottles he had already taken.

Nikita chuckled and shook her head. "Since when am I dating a bad boy?" she teased playfully. Michael had a sneaky side that surprised her every time. He wasn't as much of a rule follower as he looked to be. He had his principles that he wouldn't overstep, yes, but besides that, he constantly surprised her.

"You fell in love with him from the start" It had some truth to it for Michael. In Division Nikita was the only one that was able to pass through all his defences and bring out his true self every time they were together.

"Mmm no, I signed up for the grumpy one" She smirked, leaned in as if to kiss him but then she turned and walked away. Michael laughed and rolled his eyes. It was clear he would never be able to get the jokes about how serious he was back then to stop. Especially now that Nikita and Birkhoff had seemed to tag team about it and tease him all the time.

The chapter was getting way too long and I didn't want to cut anything out so you are getting 2 parts. I'll post the second one at some point today as well. Thank you so much for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it so much. And happy Valentine's Day, of course! It doesn't matter if you have a Valentine or not. Be your own Valentine and treat yourself! Hope you have a good one xx
