"Light-kun," The redhead felt a soft touch on his cheek. Slowly, Light opened his eyes to find L staring at him. He was still sleepy from the airplane. "We are almost there," informed L.

Light straightened his back and look out through the window of the limo. His eyes blinked several times before focusing on a mansion several yards ahead. A classic European Manor which Light never thought he would step in. He needed a confirmation, "Do you mean the Manor there?"

"Yes."

Light turned to L, "I never thought being the world's greatest detective make you as wealthy as royalty."

"The payment is extensive, but no, I didn't buy that manor. I inherited from my parents after they died," explained L.

"Oh, sorry to hear that," Light frowned. He never knew L was an orphan. Well, he didn't know anything about L. At all. Even the cases L investigated were top secret and not everything went public. Light was never interested in anyone's background before but he wanted to know more about L.

"Light-kun," L grabbed his attention again as the car slowed down near the gate. "In the manor, I have three boys stay there whenever I'm in England. They will be staying with us."

"Are they your brothers?" asked Light.

"Not by blood," L replied. "They are orphans from a nearby orphanage owned by Watari. Their age is similar to your sister's."

"I get it," it means they would be needed to be careful when they wanted to respond to Ryuk.

When the car stopped in front of the manor, Light could see there were three boys there and an old woman with a braided bub white-hair in maid outfit. After Watari opened the door and L went out first wearing a white coat, Light followed his suit. He tightened his black coat.

He heard a blond bob cut hair boy greet L with, "L! You are home! I solved the case you gave me!"

A red-haired with googled green eyes added in, "You are not the only one to solve the case L gave us, Mello. "

"All of us solved three different cases which were given by L based on his old case. He expected us to solve it," an albino boy, smaller than the other two, even smaller than Light's sister, joined in. He was white from head to toe. He stood beside the blond boy with a black outfit. The googled eye boy wore black and white stripes long sleeves.

"That would be correct, Near," L admitted. He walked towards the door and Light followed behind him.

"Let's get inside first, boys," Watari smiled at them, "We have company."

The Japanese man noticed the three-pair eyes glued to him after Watari said that. Light's attention was distracted a bit when he saw a transparent human shape hovering behind the people around him. Not permanently present, sometimes he saw them sometimes not. Weird. Light blinked his eyes as they were getting closer to the boys and a maid. Did his eyes play a trick on him?

"Good morning, Master L and welcome back," the maid welcomed with a warm smile. An old man wearing old-style clothes hovered behind her.

Light saw a couple hover behind L as the detective nodded, "Thank you, Suseri." They all went inside to the living room and warmed themselves. Light was a bit surprised to find the inside was not in the classic interior like he expected after he saw the exterior. It was quite modern. Minimum furniture with the monochrome theme and several modern technologies here and there. For instance, surveillance cameras. Typical L. He would need his own house monitored.

"L, you should introduce Light to them," suggested Watari who served a warm tea. He didn't use the suffix '-kun' because they talked in English. Light has not a problem with that. He was fluent in English.

L looked up at the old man before the elder went out to prepare the room for L and Light, then glanced at Light who sat beside him naturally as he crouched on the sofa and the boys in front of them. "Right," he nodded. He turned to Light and talked in Japanese, "Is it okay if we talk in English? The boys have not fluent in Japanese yet."

Light nodded and replied in English, "It's fine."

L turned his head to the boys and started, "These boys are the ones I told you earlier. They are Mello, the oldest. Matt. And Near, the youngest." The trio merely blinked with a blank face. Near reached out his hair and twirled it. L continued, "Mello, Matt, Near, this is Light."

Light noticed L didn't mention his surname 'Yagami' so he took it it was taboo to use real name in here. He bet the boys' names were not real as well. He smiled politely, "Nice to meet you, boys. I'm Light."

"You never brought anyone home before," Mello stated with a suspicios glance at Light. L's manor was a private place for L to live and trained his potential successor, namely Mello, Matt, Near. The current top three. "Usually, it's only you and the three of us in here with Watari and Suseri."

"Is he a new potential candidate like us?" Near voiced out Mello's doubt since the trio reached the same conclusion.

Light frowned slightly, "Candidate?"

Matt noted Light's confused tone, "Are you not?"

"Ryuuzaki, what are they saying?" Light asked L. "What candidate?"

Mello asked his mentor as well, "Who is he, L?"

"Light is the son of NPA's head director. I met him in Japan during Kira case investigation. His father was my team and both of them helped me in Kira's case."

Matt inquired, "Isn't the case was solved? That's why you are here, right?"

"Yes, the case closed," L confirmed.

"Then, why is he here?" Mello frowned.

"I will marry him in the near future," L admitted. "Watari has been doing the paperwork to legalize our wedding. In short, Light is my fiance."

The trio of teenagers bulged out their eyes. Mello and Matt's jaw was dropped comically. Near freeze, his face didn't show anything different but his hand on his hair halted.

"What?! You barely attracted to anyone and now you'll get married? Why? Are you going to marry him just because he is pretty?!" Mello couldn't comprehend his mentor's reason. L was not someone who did something on whim. Every action has meaning behind it. At least, that was the impression the kids had.

Mello, Matt, and Near were still underage but they were not blind. Even to them, Light was pretty. An attractive man. The type of person who is popular anywhere. That's whys, Light's attractiveness was the top of their head behind this sudden news.

"His IQ rivals mine."

"WHAT?!" The boys' eyes latched on Light. They didn't see that coming.

"How old is he?" Matt was curious.

"18."

"18?" Mello argued, "How horny can you be, L? He is just 3 years older than me!"

Near pointed out, "Mello is 14."

"I'll be 15 in a few days, Near," Mello glared at the albino.

Matt commented, "I thought you are asexual, L."

L cut in, "Contrary to popular beliefs, I'm a man. I have a need. And in my defense, Light is a very attractive person."

"We can see that," Near observed. "But, why would you want to marry him so soon? Surely you can wait for him to reach a reasonable age."

"Yeah," Matt added, "It's not like he is pregnant or something, right?"

Both Light and L were silenced by that. Even though they were young, they knew L was not a person who decide in haste. Yes, that was based on his detective's touch, not on L's personal life. It won't be questionable for some people to get married early in the name of love. Yet, that was not in L's book. Truth to be told, not only the boys, even Light could not predict how L behave should he be in love. Normal was never in L's behavior, so anything that usually people do when they were in love was not exactly applied to L. He was one of kind.

L asked Light, "Are you alright if we tell them about it?" His black eyes glanced at Light's belly for a second and the Japanese teenager caught the message. They will be living together with the trio of younger teens so Light failed to see the reason to cover his pregnancy.

"Yes, but before that," Light insisted, "tell me who are these kids? What's this candidate thing they're talking about?"

L sighed, "They are candidates to be my successor should I die unexpectedly. Not necessarily my heir by blood. They are trained in the orphanages I told you about earlier, highly intelligent, and the current top three. I myself train them when I have time to be at home."

"Successor?" Light's eyes widened in surprise.

"Yes, successor to the title of L. The world's greatest detective."

Light frowned, "Therefore when you die, someone will replace you as L?"

"Yes."

Light's face has not changed but his hand clenched tightly at his knee. L's death was not something he wanted to talk about easily. But, the person himself talk like it was nothing. He knew in L's point of view, that was a fact. When L die, someone needed to continue to be justice with the name of L. In a way, Light could see the point but as L's future spouse, it was not appealing.

"I take it Light is not a candidate like us," Near concluded. "You will marry him, that's why he is here."

"And he is pregnant with my child," L announced. A stretched silence followed that. The first thought that crossed the trio was L make a joke. Yet, they know L was accused of before and he won't start now either. They have no dignity to accuse L of cracking a joke. No. It was not a joke. Spending time with L, the trio know L was telling the truth.

Hence, the silence filled the air. Mello was the one who broke it with, "Isn't he a man, is he?"

"Yes," L nodded. "There is a special condition." L glanced at Near before telling his successor about the genetic mutation case he told Light months ago.

Matt's jaw dropped after all the explanation, "So, you can impregnate someone..."

Light cleared his throat to get attention, he reminded them, "Please, don't talk about an intimate thing. There is a child here." He looked pointedly at Near.

The albino played with his hair, "If you are referring to me, I'm 12. I know what copulation is."

"12?" Light was surprised. "My bad, I thought you were younger than 9." Now that Light took a look at Near, he noticed something different about him. Not only because of his physic but there was nothing behind the albino. No transparent human thing. Behind Mello was a woman with a similar face to the blond himself. Behind Matt was a young couple. But, there was none behind Near.

Light rubbed his eyes once again and the vision remain the same. Everyone has some transparent figure behind them but nothing behind Near. L and Light heard Ryuk snickering behind the Japanese teenager. They knew something was up. L asked Light, "Are you tired?" He rose to his feet. Light followed his suit after he nodded.

L addressed the boys, "I will escort Light to my bedroom, you three wait in the investigation room. I will meet you there."

"Okay," Mello responded.

—000—

"Suseri or Watari will give you a tour later about this manor," L gave him a small tour of the room they went in. About the closet, bathroom and the balcony. It was spacious with necessary furniture only. Light's luggage has been there. L added that he didn't put a camera in this room because nothing important in here. It was just his bedroom yet he rarely sleeps in here. Hence, he said that they can talk to Ryuk here.

The redhead sat down at the king-size bed. It was better than the one in L's headquarters while they were on Kira's case. When he looked at L, he saw again the transparent couple behind him and blinked several time. L noticed and asked, "What's wrong, Light?"

"Nothing," Light rubbed his eyes slightly, "I think I need to rest because I keep seeing things behind everyone's back. Something like transparent human figures."

At that revelation, Ryuk who stood beside L, laughed. He snickered, "So, you do see that, Light?"

Both L and Light looked up at Ryuk. Light asked, "What do you mean?"

"You've seen transparent human figures behind people's back, right?" Ryuk sat his eyes on L, "For instance, a couple is hovering behind L."

Brown eyes widened, "How do you know that? Do you see it too?"

"I do."

L took a guess, "Is it related to being the notebook's owner?"

"Not necessarily," Ryuk admitted. "It's due to Light's spiritual power getting more sensitive caused by his pregnancy. His sense getting more sharper than before. That's why he can see that."

"What are those figures?" Light was puzzled.

"Dead people." Ryuk confirmed.

"Dead people?" Light's frowned then looked at behind L. The figures appear then dissolved in a matter of second. A dead couple behind L. His eyes widened as the realization sunk in. "Are you saying... The ones behind L were... His parents?"

L snapped his head to Light. Ryuk observed between the two, "Yes." Then he rested his eyes on L as well, "What you see behind him is the recent death of his close relatives."

"My parents died when I was 4," informed L. "I would not say it recently."

"It is," Ryuk replied. "For us, Shinigami."

"So, the one I saw behind everyone here is their dead relatives?" Light muttered. His eyes got heavy and he laid down as he mumbled, "It's strange..."

"Strange?" L walked closer to Light who closed his eyes as he got sleepy.

Light rumbled, "I saw a woman with long hair behind Mello... An old woman behind Watari... An older man behind Suseri... A couple behind Matt...But, I see nothing behind Near... Are his relatives still alive...?" At this point, Light has gone inside the dreamland.

L muttered, "I see..."

He looked down at Light who was sleeping and his hand reached out to caress the teenager's hair for a moment before he went out.

Ryuk snkered, "This is interesting."

—000—

"Are you really going to marry him?" Mello asked L after he sat on his red chair like usual. He bite a chocolate bar. There were various desserts on the table between them. Mello, Matt and Near sat in front of him.

"Yes, I'll marry Light," L replied as he took a cake from the table. He knew the real question so he explained, "His pregnancy is real. Watari checked him and I heard the baby's heartbeat as well. Either you believe it or not, I'm going to be a father spring next year."

"If you have a child, isn't it logical that your child will be your heir?" Near's question followed by silence. His fingers twirled his hand. L chewed his cake as he stared at the three boys.

"The child will have my family's name so, technically, yes."

"Then, you don't need us anymore to be your successor?" Matt concluded. He put candy in his mouth.

"I don't say that," L elaborated. "I never know when I will die so there is the possibility that I will die before the child reaches legal age. One of you will be my successor should it happen." L paused and sipped his tea before adding, "In fact, I want you three to do me a favor."

"Favor?" Mello raised an eyebrow.

"Yes," L put his palms on his knees because he crouched. He stared at the three boys. "If I, Light or Light's family die, I want to ask you three to take care of my child."

The boys lost their words. Matt stuttered, "Yo-you want us to raise your child?"

"Yes."

The boys knew what it entails when they became the successor candidate of L. They will be a detective and solve crimes like L did. They were kind of thought of that like it was their duty. But, when L mentioned this, they knew it was something personal. L was rarely shown affection to anyone. He was always practical. Hence, this favor was like an advanced level of their relationship. Mello, who was overwhelmed but proud to be trusted by his mentor about something this big, nodded and determined colored his voice, "I'll do it."

Matt followed, "I'm in."

"It's an honor for us, L," Near agreed.

"Thank you, Mello, Matt, Near." L continued eating again. "I'll have Watari put it in my will."

Matt asked, "So, when is the wedding?"

"Wedding?" L didn't look at Matt.

The redhead explained, "You said you will marry him, right? Do you want it to be legal? I assume you will have a wedding ceremony."

"I haven't discussed it with Light." L enjoyed his dessert.

Mello and Matt sweatdropped.

—000—

Watari knocked the investigation room. He went in to find L and the boys in front of different computers. Only Matt who turned his head when the man stood behind L. He announced, "Dinner is ready in dining room, L. Roger has arrived as well."

L stopped typing and rose to his feet. "Is Light already there?"

"Light… has not come out of the bedroom since this morning," reported Watari.

"He hasn't?" L turned his face to Watari.

"Yes," Watari nodded, "I knocked several times to ask him to get lunch but no answer. I assume he is sleeping." He can only assume because there were cameras inside L's bedroom to look at it.

"I see," he walked out after, "I'll check on him, so wait for us in the dining room. I want Light to meet Roger who will be his doctor."

—000—

L opened the bedroom to find the room was dimmed without any light. He went in after turned off the light and head to the bed. He found Ryuk beside the bed.

"Yo, L." He said, "Do you have an apple?"

"Yes. I'll bring it later," his eyes were on the bed where Light was sleeping. "Is Light hasn't woken up yet since I left him?"

"No, he hasn't."

L considered that Light has jet lag but when he get closer to the bed and leaned down, he saw Light's face was red with a deep frown. He put his palm on Light's forehead and his suspicion was right.

"He has a fever," L muttered.

L pull out his cell phone and called, "Watari, tell Roger to come to my bedroom."

"Apple, give me an apple," Ryuk demanded on L's ear.

He sighed, "Watari, please bring me an apple too."
