This is my third published Mcrollins fanfic! Please let me know how I can improve it and if you like it! FYI: I started writing this before the finale. REMEMBER I DO NOT OWN ANY OF THESE CHARACTERS!

This story is written differently (more chunk paragraphs instead of dialogue), please let me know how this format is!

Chapter 1

Five years ago…

Catherine tried calling Steve several times, but he never answered, she eventually gave up. Catherine left the CIA and moved to Coronado near her parents once she found out she was pregnant. Once she was settled, she went to the doctor to get an ultrasound done, she found out that she was 10 weeks pregnant. She asked for extra pictures so she could show Steve. She was planning a gift to surprise Steve with the news. She went to the store to buy a small box to put everything in, a shirt that said daddy on it, and little blue anchor shoes. She went straight home to book a flight for the next day. She first put the shirt in then the ultrasound photos, then the shoes on top, and finally the positive pregnancy test. She packed all her clothes for this two-day trip since she had to return to her new job as an intelligence officer at a private firm. With all her naval intelligence achievements, she was able to secure this job quickly and easily. Her parents insisted on her trying to tell Steve again. One night she decided to call Steve, but he didn't pick up. She called again and he still didn't pick up. She started to think back to the past when she would smile at seeing his goofy picture.

"I guess he has moved on," she thought.

That was the day Catherine decided that she and her baby were on their own.

Meanwhile back in Hawaii...

Steve was outside swimming and left his phone in his room. He finished his swim and heard Junior yell that the phone was ringing. He walked upstairs and saw the number was unknown. The call ended before he could pick up. He saw that he missed two calls. He wondered if it was Catherine, but decided not to try to call back to see if it was her. The unknown calls brought back many meaningful memories and reminders of what life was like before.

Present-day California…

Every day Steven sees that his friends get dropped off and picked up by a mom and dad. One day in the afternoon, he kept asking his teachers where his dad was. None of his teachers could answer them. Steven got upset and sad so he started to cry and didn't stop until Catherine was called to pick him up. When Steven saw Catherine, he started to cry a lot less.

"Hi, I am so sorry to cause you to leave work, Ms. Rollins."

"I am so sorry my son is causing such trouble, what happened?"

The teachers explained what happened.

"Oh, I am sorry, I will talk to him about it. Don't worry it will not happen again."

"It is all good, Ms. Rollins. I will bring him to you."

Steven's principal walked out of the office and brought him back to the office. Catherine bent down to carry him and they walked out.

"Thank you again!"

At the car, Catherine put him in his car seat and buckled him up.

"What's wrong, sweetie?"

"Ewvery day I see my frwends get picked up by mommy and daddy... where my daddy, mommy?"

"I am so sorry, baby. I know you want to see daddy, but he is away remember."

"I knwo, mommy. I just want to see daddy."

"I know sweetie, you will see daddy soon. Remember he is out there saving people."

"Yahhh, my daddy is a supahero!"

"That's right, sweetie."

After Catherine started the car, Steven slept peacefully. She drove to the supermarket and carried Steven and put her sleeping son in the cart. She bought stuff for dinner and his surprise present announcement. The whole time Catherine was shopping, he was sleeping. When Catherine paid and left the store, Steven started crying again. Catherine didn't know what to do, so she asked if he wanted to get a treat. He stopped crying for a bit and said he wanted ice cream. Catherine put everything in the car and went back with Steven to find what ice cream he wanted. It just so happened Steven chose the one Steve also likes. It brought back memories to Catherine and made her feel guilty that her son is crying right now because he never got to meet his father. He never reacted this way before and he knows that his father is away being a superhero and wishes he could see him. Catherine also picked out some ice cream and paid for it both. She helped Steven open his ice cream cup then walked to the car. Luckily Steven finished all the ice cream he wanted and gave the rest to Catherine before they got to the car. Steven got ice cream all over his clothes and face. Catherine thought he was so cute that she took a picture of him before they got to the car. Catherine cleaned him up a bit before driving home. She gave Steven his bag to take inside, while she got the groceries. She put them inside the kitchen and into their proper place then helped Steven shower. While Steven was playing peacefully with his toys, Catherine started thinking about Steve again and how he would have loved to bathe his son every night and play with him. Steven saw his mother smiling and asked her why she was smiling. Catherine didn't hear him so Steven yelled. She snapped out of her little dream and brought her full attention back to her son. Steven asked again where his father was. Catherine had to painfully say again that he is away saving people's lives and wants to see him. Steven asked Catherine if he could see his dad one day and wants Catherine to send daily videos and photos of him to his dad. Catherine thought how sweet and thoughtful her son was. She feels so lucky to have him in her life. She hopes that he would like her surprise and hopefully forget about this whole meltdown about not seeing his father.

CONTEXT

Catherine's parents think that she should have told Steve and have been telling her since she found out she was pregnant with Steven. Her parents were the only ones there for her when she needed people most. She called Kono almost every day and she was the first person outside her family to know about the baby. Kono was so happy to soon be an aunty to the little fella inside of Catherine. When Steven was born, Kono was the only friend there. Kono drove from San Francisco to be with Catherine. Kono told Chin about the baby and he flew in the day after. Chin was so happy that Catherine and Steve finally had a child, but was sad they weren't together. The cousins stayed for a while and helped Catherine while she was on maternity leave. They knew that Catherine was going to have a hard time, especially being a single, full-time working parent. She had to cut her leave early because she needed more money to support Steven. Before Catherine went back to work, Chin and Kono had to drive back to their homes to continue their lives. When Catherine went back to work, she left Steven with her parents and had to pick him up after work. Sometimes she was so tired that she would stay over at her parents' house. Some nights were worse than others. Catherine would barely get enough sleep and would cry a lot because she couldn't help her son and didn't know what was wrong. Her parents saw how sad she was and wanted to help her. One night they decided to call Steve to ask him to come to visit the Admiral. When they called him a woman answered. They heard a baby crying and then Steve yelling thank you. Then he started talking on the phone, he asked who this was since it was an unknown out-of-state number. The admiral didn't say a word and hung up. He told his wife what happened and they both decided to keep calling Steve a secret.
