Then we heard Mother's voice, "Boys?"

Her soothing voice calmed us down a little and we immediately stopped our stress antics.

She has such and warm smile and sparkling happy eyes that change color in light. Even though she's got a few gray hairs, I know she could have any man she wants, which still makes us wonder why she picked Gabe. Percy said she's never raised her voice or said a bad to anyone while growing up.

She walk into the room and hugged both of us, "Awww it's so good to see how much you've grown since Christmas"

Immediately, all our troubles just went away and we were completely calm.

I actually thought she was an angel for a few weeks when I first got to Manhattan. My mom is apparently her best friend from high school, so she would send me over a lot when we first got here 3 years ago.

Momma and Mother are two people me and Percy would die for and are practically the same but completely opposite when needed. Momma is the one you send in when someone's trying to walk all over you or your about to get in trouble for something you didn't do. I once saw my mom make someone who was disrespecting Mother cry.

Momma is the scariest person I know, but also the most protective and reliable. She got these gold colored eyes that can hold intensity when she wants. She doesn't have any grey hairs in her shoulder length curly hair, which is surprising cause she practically breaks her back to put food on my table.

I hope she gets home safely.

Mother had brought us a huge bag of "free samples" from the candy shop she works at like she always does when we get homes. Her red, white, and blue Sweets For America always smelled like chocolate, peanut butter, and other stuff she sold at the candy shop.

We sat on the bed and viciously devoured the blue and red gummy bears. She ruffled Percy's hair and wrapped me in a blanket while demanding to know everything that we hadn't told her in our letters we sent home. All she cared about was our well-being, not even mentioning we got expelled. That's why I love her like a second mom.

"Hey Sally! How about some bean dip?" Said Gabe from another room. Percy clenched his fists and my eyes twitched a little.

Mother deserves better then this disrespectful asshole, she deserves a millionaire.

We tried to be upbeat, telling her it wasn't that bad and we weren't that sad about being expelled and other good things, but I choked a little when I thought about Grover and Mr. Brunner.

Then came talking about the Museum...

"What wrong?" Asked Mother. Her maternal instincts were her best asset, but right now they're our worst enemy. Her eyes tugged at my conscious, making me want to confess, but even though she's believed our strange accidents before, this is completely different.

"Nothing Mother" I said.

"Did something scare you guys?" said Mother.

"No, Mom. We got to learn about mythology"

Lying to Mother cut me to my soul, but were we supposed to tell her that our pre-algebra teacher turner into a monster, tried to kill us, but failed and we killed her with pen that turned into a sword?

"I have a surprise for you guys, from me and Sharon," she said. "We're going to the beach." My eyes widened. "Montauk?"

"Three nights—same cabin."

"When?" Said Percy excitedly.

She smiled. "As soon as I get changed. Sharon will be there when we get there. But there's some gifts Sharon got for the both of you. They're in her house. Stay there until I'm finished making Gabe a seven layer-dip so we can use his car"

Our eyes widened. We hadn't been to Montauk in 2 summers cause Gassy Gabe always claimed there wasn't enough money. And I hope the gifts weren't too expensive. Momma already works hard enough.

Me and Percy ran out of our apartment to the one next door. Once we got in, what we saw made our jaws drop.

On the coffee table, were two pairs of headphones. And not just any headphones. They looked expensive and futuristic.

(A/N: pics are on Wattpad. Look for 'DarkWielder'. I promise it's worth it. They look so cool.)

Mines was black and teal

For Zari, from your father and me

Percy's was silver and black and blue.

For Percy, from Zari's uncle and me :)

We picked them up with shaking hands. "Zari. C-can we actually t-take these?" said mesmerized Percy.

"I don't know. But I do know one thing. We will murder anyone who tries to take or break them" I said. "Hell yea!" said Percy.

"But doesn't your father only leave presents on your door way every birthday?" asked Percy

I shrugged. No matter where we moved to, my dad and his uncle, where ever they are, always leaves a present by my house's door. It's always a cake and video games. I give 2 of my systems to Percy, but he has to hide his so Gabe doesn't sell it.

We put them on our neck and it felt like they belong there. Then something strange happened. The headphones started glowing despite the fact they weren't even on.

Then our hearts started booming in sync, like the other times. It only happened for a few seconds and stopped afterwards, but it still felt really weird.

I threw my hands in the air, "At this point, I don't even care!"

Percy added on, "Yea, too much shit has been going on lately and people either know and won't explain or have no memory of it!"

We played our video games for the next hour while Mother did what she had to do.

She came and got us when she was done.

We put her bags in the car, which was a '78 Camaro.

I actually thought the car looked pretty cool. From the outside at least. But I will NEVER tell him that.

Gabe took a break from his poker game to warn us not to get even the tiniest of scratches on it.

Me and Percy got so mad, we did this weird thing Grover did on the bus, a gesture that wards off evil; A clawed hand over our hearts, then a shoving movement toward Gabe. Suddenly something funny and weird happened.

Gabe got sent flying up the staircase cause the screen door slammed shut so hard, it whacked him in the butt. Maybe it was just the wind, or some freak accident with the hinges, but we got in the Camaro and told Mother to step on, not wanting to stay long enough to find out.

We got there at sunset, my mom already being when we got there.

I ran to up to her and gave Momma a hug, making her smile, "So good to see my little warrior."

We went through our usual cleaning routine cause it always had slides in the cabinets and sand in the sheets. It was a rental on the tip of Long Island, on the south shore.

Mother and Momma were vibrantly joyful, all the stress they've been going through gone just like that. Mothers eyes turned the color of the sea and Momma eyes were no longer tired.

I love Montuak.

It was so much fun. We walked on the beach. Me and Percy had a race, but he won.

Percy and Momma fed blue corn chips to the seagulls.

Me and him ate some blue and red jelly beans, blue saltwater taffy, and all the other free samples his mom had brought from work.

Yes, all the food was blue and if you don't like it, up yours.

The blue food is a strike against Gabe. Mother and Gabe had a big fight one time cause he claim blue food doesn't exist. So after that, Mother made every food she cooked blue for Percy. This, along with keeping her maiden name Mrs Jackson, proves she still have some fight left in her.

We roasted marshmallows and hotdogs by a fire when it got dark, then Mother and Momma shared stories.

One time Mother played prank on Momma in high school on Halloween were she dressed up like a corpse and scared Momma and some of her friends when they tried to check it out. Momma once sent Mother a hundred prank calls in one week. It was so funny.

We shared stories about school. A strange look came over their faces when we told them about the incident with Nancy, but started laughing at the end.

Eventually we asked about our dads. Sad smiles came across both of their faces. Usually they would say the same thing, but this time they said something different.

"They were actually very similar" Mother said.

"Tall, handsome, and powerful. But if they saw you as family, they would do everything to protect you, even if it meant leaving" said Momma. "Both of you have their eyes and hair"

"How old were we?" I asked. "I mean ... when they left?"

They gazed off into the ocean, "He had to leave the day before you were, Zari" said Momma

"Wasn't he there with you in the hospital, Ma?"

She's hooked her head, "He had to go, hon"

"Percy, yours was with me for one summer. Here. At this cabin." Said Mother. She was reflecting on her good memories.

The only thing I remember about my dad was a faint memory of chains and a calming heartbeat. It's weird.

I don't care what Percy's dad had to do, I hope he got caught in a storm. Because of his lack of balls, we're stuck with a smelly-ass sorry excuse for a human being.

"Are you guys gonna send us away again?" Asked Percy. "I don't like boarding school. I can handle Gabe and his antics. I just don't wanna leave home"

Momma pulled a marshmallow from the fire and said, "We'll figure something out, suga. It will take time, but we will come up with something"

"Cause you don't want us around?" I said. I immediately regretted it. Faster than I though possible, Momma reach over and bopped me upside the head.

"Sharon!" Said Mother. Momma shook her head, "Nu-uh Sally. You know how I was raised: spare the rod, spoil the child. I don't know how you got a miracle ange like Percy with the way you do things but I don't have your magic touch"

Mother was about to say something, but decided against it. She had tears in her eyes.

I rubbed my head, mumbling my gibberish. She turned to me and raised one eyebrow, "What was that, boy?"

I shook my head fearfully, "Nothing, momma"

Mother said, "It's nothing like that boys, we promise"

"We have to, suga. It's for your own safety" said Momma.

"Because we're not normal," said Percy.

"Normal is boring" said Momma. "Yea, you guys said that as if it's a bad thing, but you don't realize how important to you are. We thought thought you would be safe at Yancy, with how far away you are" said Mother.

"Safe from what?"

As they looked at us with sad smiles, memories of scary and weird things came flooding into our minds. We tried to forget them cause some of them didn't make sense.

One time back in Alaska, in elementary school, me and my entire school went to a big aquarium and some kids were picking on me. We were let into the electric eel exhibit and I kind started talking to to electric eels like I could understand them, which I could some how.

I snapped, and punch the glass of the electric eel tank out of anger, cracking it.

Now what made it so strange was that me, a little 7 year old kid, some how made a crack in industrial-strength glass that could withstand an the strongest of car crashes.

Or the time Percy had a man in a black trench coat stalking him on the playground. He went away growling when the school threaten to call the police. But the weird thing was that Percy swore the man had only one eye right in the middle of his head.

Then there was the time a when I had accidentally gotten bitten by a bunch of extremely rare and lethally venomous snakes while on a field trip to a endangered species zoo. It was Halloween and I saw clown masks and took off running.

I don't know what really happened because by the time I had "gotten to safety", I was outside, covered in snake bites, and breathing hard. I had apparently jumped through glass twice to run away. Momma nearly sued the zoo, but they paid for all my medical bills plus some to apologize for the accident. Momma put that to my college fund.

Or the time Percy some how strangled a snake that had slither into his cot when he was a baby.

Mother nearly passed out from fear cause he was playing with the snakes corpse like it was a rope toy and smiling.

The one thing that has always been the same for both of us is that in every single school we've ever been too, something we couldn't explain happened, then we had to move.

"We've tried to keep you guys with us as uh as we could" said Momma. "Even if they told us it was a mistake. But no matter what, it always seems like that place is the only option. The place your fathers wanted you to go to."

"Our fathers wanted us to go to a special school?"

Mother shook her head, "No, not a school. A summer camp."

"I'm sorry, suga, but we can't talk about anymore cause we know we have to send you away. Saying goodbye for good will be difficult." said Momma with tears in her eyes.

"But it's a summer camp. What do you mean 'for good'?" Asked Percy.

They sent us off to bed instead answering.
