Chapter 3
Catherine planned to surprise Steven with a trip to a resort in Hawaii since his birthday was coming up and it was the summer. Catherine also missed Hawaii a lot and Steven loves the water. They arrived in Hawaii and she drove to the hotel. She checked in and put their bags in the room.
"Mommy, mommy," Steven said as he was jumping up and down in the room.
"Yes, sweetie?"
"I's so excwited for my bwthday! I luve you, mommy."
"I am glad you like your present. I love you too, my little water monster."
"Pool, pool, pool!"
"Be patient, let me take out the swim clothes then we can go downstairs, okay?"
"Yes, mommy."
Catherine unpacked their bags and took out their items. After she quickly organized everything, she took out the swim clothes and they changed. They went downstairs to the towel stand to get swimming wristbands, towels, and a floaty for Steven. Catherine placed their stuff on a chair near the kiddie play pool and helped Steven put on the life vest.
"Steven, you can only play in this pool, got it."
"Yes, mommy."
"I will be sitting here for a little while, mommy needs some rest. Come back here often, okay."
"Ok, mommy"
Steven quickly hugged Catherine and ran to the pool. Because they live alone, Catherine taught him to be more independent so he is more mature than other kids his age. Catherine relaxed on the chair and watched Steven smiling, having so much fun.
Meanwhile…
"Danny, what are we doing here?"
"This is your surprise."
"A resort, on the beach? How is this a nice surprise? I live along the ocean already."
"Too bad, Steve."
Danny drove up to the drop-off, they both got out of the car, Danny opened the trunk to get Steve's backpack and handed it to Steve.
"Here. Enjoy."
"What are you doing?"
"I am dropping you off."
Danny quickly closed the trunk and ran to the car and turned on the car.
"I will pick you up in a week! Enjoy your vacation!"
Danny drove away before Steve could reply.
"Dan… Great, he's gone already."
Steve walked in and checked in. He looked at the resort from the lobby balcony and was amazed at how beautiful this resort is. He went up to his room, unpacked, and changed. Then he went downstairs to the towel stand to get a towel and his hotel wristband. He passed by the kiddie pool and on the side of his eye, he saw a boy who stood out to him. Steve instantly felt his heart racing inside, his heartfelt more full.
He started to think to himself, "why does this boy make me feel this way? He sort of looks like me. Am I going nuts? Snap out of it, Steve!"
The boy got out of the kiddie pool area and walked toward a woman lying on a recliner. Steve slowly walked in that direction. Steve felt that woman look familiar, but couldn't recognize her from where he was standing. Then he heard the women speak and he instantly knew who that was, the one who got away. He turned around and walked away before she could see him.
"What is wrong with you, Steve? She is right there! Just go talk to her!"
The rational side of Steve took over, but he could not stop thinking about her.
The next day…
After breakfast, Catherine dropped off Steven at the children's activities hut for the rest of the day. Since she was alone, she wanted to spend the whole day relaxing. She first headed to the spa then the adult pool.
Meanwhile…
Steve got up early, hit the gym, and decided to head to the adult pool for some light beverages. As he was about to order his drink, he saw Catherine, sitting there in the pool. He decided to order her a drink as well. Once he got the drinks, he got into the pool and walked toward her. Her eyes were closed, but she could feel her heart racing. Steve stopped about 3 ft away from her.
"Hey, lieutenant."
Catherine could not believe what she just heard. She did not want to open her eyes because she was afraid she was hearing things wrong.
"It's been a long time, Cath."
She couldn't take it anymore, she had to open her eyes. She slowly opened them and saw those dreamy blue eyes she missed all these years.
"Am I dreaming? Steve, is it really you?"
"You are not dreaming, Cath. I am really here in front of you."
"Steve…"
Catherine's eyes began to fill with tears. Steve sat down next to her holding the drinks in his hands. He stuck one hand out to her to give her a drink.
"I got you a virgin mai tai."
Catherine wiped some tears off before taking the drink.
"Thanks."
"I figured it's too early to be drinking alcohol, haha."
Steve wrapped his arm around her shoulder and she instantly snuggled into his embrace, just like old times.
Will Catherine and Steve reconnect where they left off or will there be some conflict?
Is Steve going to ask Catherine about the boy?
