The Nogitsune's illusion had disappeared when he died, taking away the fog, trees and Nemeton, leaving them in the middle of the college lacrosse field. Sadie was still under Stiles' protective cover, a shaking Eli still pressed underneath her. They had won. Stiles was quickly removed off the top of her, deposited in a heap of flailing limbs beside her.
"Stiles, get off my wife."
Sadie scrambled to her feet, throwing herself at Derek. He caught her, hands lifting her off the ground with ease as she wrapped her legs around his middle. He was still smoking, but the burns had healed into red, raw welts and within the hour would be completely gone. Derek pulled her into a searing kiss, desperate and full of emotion. Sadie felt like she couldn't get close enough to him, tears streaming down her cheeks as she pressed into him. She'd almost lost him. They parted, foreheads pressed together as they breathed each other in.
"Too close, I know." Derek told her before she could tell him. She nodded, pressing in to kiss him again.
"Uh, I'd like a hug too if you could stop sucking face with Mom."
Embarrassed, Sadie tucked her face into Derek's neck, feeling the low rumble of Derek's warning growl to his son.
"Got it, got it! I'll just go check on Grandma," Sadie imagined Eli stumbling back from the pair, hands held up in apology.
Nudging the side of her head with his nose, Derek encouraged her to look up from his neck. "Let me see your hand,"
Sadie got back on her feet, holding out her left hand. The bleeding had stopped and she could feel the minor healing ability she was blessed with after the bite, starting to take place. She'd probably still need stitches, but at least her nerves were trying to reconnect.
Derek examined her hand carefully, worry etched on his face. "You nearly lost your fingers,"
She couldn't make herself look down to see how they looked now, remembering the visible bone when she'd wrapped them up in her shirt. Derek's worried green eyes lifted from her hand, scanning over her head. He didn't have time to call out for the person he was looking for as Melissa was already at their side, taking her daughter's hand to gently examine it.
"Does she need surgery?" Derek asked her. Sadie could see him doing the mental calculations on how fastest to get to the hospital. He was still hurt from the fight and Parrish's fire, so running her there was out of the question. Thankfully, Melissa shook her head no.
"You lucked out honey. I can stitch these back at the house."
Derek exhaled in relief as Sadie sighed, leaning into her Mother's comforting embrace. Melissa smoothed a hand across her daughter's hair, pressing a kiss to her forehead. She looked at Derek, smacking him in the back of the head with the hand not holding onto Sadie.
"And what the hell was that Derek?"
Derek ducked his head, looking very much like their son when he was in trouble. Melissa released Sadie to pull Derek into a hug.
"You are not my son biologically, but you are very much my son. You scared me. All of us. We love you."
The werewolf wrapped his arms around his mother-in-law, closing his eyes as he melted into the motherly hug, "I'm sorry Mom."
"Sadie."
Sadie turned from her hugging family to face Allison and Scott. They were hand in hand, mouths red. Smirking, Sadie raised her eyebrows at her brother. He scoffed, "You were just doing the same thing!"
Allison rolled her eyes at the pair, pulling from Scott's grasp to take a step towards Sadie. She looked incredibly nervous, her red fingernails were picking at the hem of her jacket.
"Sadie…I'm so sorry-" her eyes flickered above Sadie's head to where Derek had come to stand, wrapping both his arms around Sadie from behind. "-so so sorry about nearly killing you Derek. And hunting your son. I would have never done it-"
"Allison," Derek interrupted, halting Allison's rambling apology. Sadie tilted her head back to look at him, his expression was unreadable until he offered her a smile. "Glad to have you back with us. You've got a lot to catch up on."
The archer laughed shakily, swiping at her eyes with the back of her hand. "I really do."
"We'll help you. Gossip session of the century, coming right up."
Lydia, holding up a wounded and healing Jackson stumbled up to the group. As Allison and Sadie threw their arms around the redhead, she let go of Jackson. He protested the entire way to the ground, muttering to himself.
"I heard you," Allison breathed against Lydia and Sadie tightened her hug around the two women. "We all did."
Two more sets of arms wrapped around the women. Sadie knew instantly Scott and Stiles had come to the three of them, not wanting to be left out. "We made it. We all made it,"
Sadie could see Derek from her position in the original pack group hug. His eyes lowered to the turf at Scott's statement, the reality of what just happened hitting him. Not everyone had made it. Peter wasn't someone Sadie cared about in any capacity, but she knew Derek still had some deeply buried love for his Uncle from when they were younger. If she was being honest with herself, without Peter she wouldn't have Derek in her life, and by proxy Eli.
"Not to break up this super gross love fest, but 1: We are all starving from saving the world again. 2: Sadie's fingers literally look like they're about to fall off. Can we take this somewhere else so she can get those handled?"
Malia stood with her hands on her hips, the rest of the group behind her staring expectantly.
"Re-group at our house. We have food and guest rooms," Derek made the decision for them, extracting his wife from the hug and waiving Eli over to them.
"What we don't have is a front door," Sadie remembered, visualizing the shattered pieces of wood on their porch that she and Malia had stepped over on their way out.
With the lack of traffic at five am on a Sunday, the group made it to the Hale house in under fifteen minutes. Sadie was ushered into her bedroom by her mother the second they stepped through the front door frame. Melissa already had her suture kit in hand as she guided Sadie to sit.
"Sadie, are you going to be okay without any pain meds? I don't have anything to numb it with me," Melissa asked gently, preparing her tools on the duvet cover beside her.
Sadie gulped, looking down at her mangled hand covered in dried blood on her lap. She felt unsure and exhausted, just wanting this over with. Melissa glanced over her shoulder at the closed bedroom door. Derek and the Sheriff had immediately started working on breakfast for the group practically exuding "Dad Energy". Sadie wasn't even sure he'd discarded his charred jacket before cracking the eggs.
Sadie shook her head, knowing where her Mom's train of thought was heading. "He's still healing. I don't want him to take on anymore."
Melissa nodded in understanding, beginning to sew the muscle and skin together on her first born's fingers. Teeth clenched, Sadie looked anywhere but her hand.
The door burst open to reveal Eli. He quickly shut the door, leaning against it.
His eyes were wide as he blurted out in a rush, "Mom, I can hear your heartbeat freaking out all the way in the living room! How cool is that? But you're in pain aren't you? That's why it's beating so fast?"
Rolling her eyes at her grandson, Melissa continued to focus on the task at hand, pausing for a moment to glance at Eli. "Eli, do you want to try something for your Mom?"
"Mom! No!"
Eli sat down beside Sadie, looking at her seriously. "Mom, what's Grandma want me to try?"
"Taking my pain away while she stitches me up. You know I only partially heal? So unfortunately I have to feel her sewing me back up since this won't heal on its own."
"Will it hurt me?" Eli looked between his Mother and Grandma.
Hesitating for a moment, Sadie nodded. "I don't know from experience obviously, but I know it doesn't feel good. Eli, honey, I don't need-"
Eli ignored her, grasping her left wrist, focusing on it for a moment before his eyes flickered up, embarrassed. "I uh, I've seen Dad do it before. But what am I actually doing?"
Sadie ran her free hand down the back of his head, smiling at his admission. She didn't think she'd ever be the one to show Eli how to do something with his werewolf powers, but she'd remembered what Scott had told Liam and gave it a shot.
"You focus on the pain I'm feeling and how you want to take it away, to help with it. If it hurts too much, you stop immediately. Got it?"
He nodded at her, taking a deep breath and closing his eyes. Melissa and Sadie exchanged smiles with Melissa resuming her work. Sadie closely watched her son's face as he focused. His glowing yellow eyes snapped open in shock, meeting her brown ones as small trails of black slid up his hand from her wrist. The relief was immediate, Melissa noticed how Sadie's hand relaxed on the sterile pad she was working on.
"I"m doing it! Holy shit!"
"Language, Eli," Melissa chided, unwavering in her work.
Grinning with pride, Sadie pressed a kiss to Eli's cheek. "Are you doing okay honey?"
He nodded, "Yeah I mean, it hella hurts, but then it's gone almost immediately. That's the healing protecting me right?"
The door opened again and Melissa groaned in annoyance, "I'm just trying to stitch up her hand here, not like this is delicate work and I need to stay steady!"
Derek and Scott both stood in the doorway, trying to shove their way into the room at the same time but getting blocked by each other. Sadie rolled her eyes at the scene. "We heard your heartbeat slow down and Eli's pick up."
"I'm fine. Eli is fine. We'll be out in a bit."
The pair stopped shoving each other as they looked from an amused Sadie to a concentrating Eli, his eyes closed again in concentration. Derek's eyes widened in realization, "He's taking your pain."
Nodding, Sadie leaned her head against Eli's shoulder. "He's doing a great job too, a total natural," she grinned at Derek, "Just like his Dad."
His mouth opened and closed a few times, wanting to say something else, but unable to get the words out. She nodded in understanding, smiling at him widely, "We'll be right out."
Derek backed out of the doorway, still in shock, glancing between Eli and Sadie one last time before going to finish breakfast. Scott remained, grinning at his nephew, "Dude! You're crushing being-"
"Scott!" Melissa warned and that was all it took to get him out of the room.
With her hand stitched and wrapped in clean gauze, Sadie joined the rest of the group in the living room of her home. She quietly lingered in the hallway, taking in all of her friends and family before her.
Stiles and Lydia were speaking quietly in the armchairs by the doorway, Argent on her porch covering her open front doorway in plastic tarp. He was having trouble focusing on securing it, what with him glancing up every few seconds to make sure Allison was still draped across Scott's lap on the couch while they were deep in conversation. Looks like after saving the world, they'd be making a trip to Lowes later for a new front door.
Malia and Parrish were nowhere to be found, two empty plates were already in the sink. Liam, Mason and Hikari were passed out on the floor by the fireplace. Kira was in a deep animated conversation with of all people, Jackson. The Sheriff was attempting to use their coffee maker and based on the smell, hadn't realized there weren't any beans left in the hopper to run it. Thankfully Eli appeared at his side, explaining how inside of Sadie going to get coffee she brought Allison back from the dead. The Sheriff snorted a laugh, looking over his shoulder at her as she joined them in the kitchen.
Sadie pointed at her son, "Uh, that's not exactly how it happened."
"With how all of you," the Sheriff gestured to the living room, "Used to get into these supernatural situations, I would believe that's exactly how it happened."
Sadie sputtered, taking the offered plate of food from Derek and leaning against the kitchen island beside him as she ate. "No way. We were totally responsible."
Rolling his eyes, Stiles' Father disagreed with a smirk, "What about when you said you were going camping and instead I had a fifteen year old Derek Hale sitting in my station a few days later?"
"We went over this Dad!"
Stiles and Lydia joined them in the kitchen, his hand on the small of her back. Sadie and Lydia exchanged smiles, knowing they'd be speaking later as Stiles continued. "We were camping...just in Mexico!"
Sadie laughed with everyone else in the kitchen. Eli had heard stories of how his parents had met, how the pack came to be, but several specifics were left out for obvious reasons. He had a knack for getting into trouble just like his Uncle Scott.
Eli was gaping at them, "You literally ran off to Mexico and lied about it? And you get on me for getting into trouble!"
Derek stole a bite of the bacon in Sadie's hand, tilting his head in question at his son with a smirk. "How about you tell Stiles what kind of trouble you keep getting into?"
Stiles' eyes lit up as he focused on the young werewolf, "Oh my goddddd, what are you up to Eli? It's something good, I know it."
Eli rubbed the back of his neck nervously before answering, "I sort of keep stealing your Jeep."
Stiles shook his head back and forth in disbelief, "Wait, what! You keep stealing, like this has happened more than once?"
Both Derek and the Sheriff laughed, looking at each other. "What was this last time, number twelve or thirteen?" the Sheriff asked Derek.
"Fourteen. The time before that was when Sadie found him on the side of the road taking a nap in it."
"Oh my god! Eli! You're a menace to society, I'm so proud of you!" Stiles exclaimed, clapping him on the back.
Eli was red with embarrassment, head still ducked. Stiles gave him a reassuring pat on the chest, looking up at Sadie and Derek for their permission. They both nodded for him to continue, figuring it was perfect timing with Stiles already being here.
"Have you ever wondered why I left the Jeep behind? And your Dad fixed it up and had it just sitting at the shop?" Stiles asked the fifteen year old.
Eli looked up at Derek who shook his head, nodding at Stiles.
"Not really. I just figured Mom made him," Eli said with a shrug.
Stiles laughed briefly at that with Sadie. Noticing the keys to the Jeep on the counter behind them, picking them up and giving them a toss in the air before taking Eli's hand and setting them in his palm.
Eli looked down at the keys then to Stiles, confused.
"Eli, I left the Jeep behind and your Dad fixed it up, so you could have it when you were sixteen. I left the Jeep for you."
The teenager was stunned, staring at Stiles like he'd grown a second head, waiting for the joke to follow. Stiles was completely serious. Eli looked at his parents who both nodded, "You're serious? It's my car? For real?"
"That Jeep has saved our asses more times than I can count."
"Literally ran my ass over!" Jackson yelled from the living room.
Stiles waved him off dismissively, "I mean technically yes, I did run him over with it and he's clearly fine! My point being, you're the new generation now Eli. The new teen wolf and you're going to need some wheels."
"Oh my god, thank you!" Eli reached for Stiles, pulling him into a hug, Stiles' feet lifting off the floor.
Stiles choked, "You've really found that werewolf strength now buddy."
Releasing him immediately, realizing he had gone overboard, Eli laughed. "Sorry! It's going to take some getting used to."
Derek placed a hand on his son's shoulder, "I'll get you up to speed in no time."
"And I'll help." Scott and Allison had joined the group in the kitchen. They seemed afraid to let go of each other, like they'd disappear from one another if they separated for even a moment.
"What do you mean?" asked Melissa, frowning at her son.
Scott took a deep breath, "I'm going to stick around in Beacon Hills for awhile…" he gave Allison a soft smile, "...maybe more than awhile."
Melissa hugged her son tightly, "Amazing! My babies are in the same town again! You both can stay with us until you get settled!" she squealed in excitement, giving Allison's hand a squeeze.
Allison's brow furrowed in confusion, "Us?"
Realization dawned on Melissa's face as she looked to Argent over his daughter's shoulder. "Uh, yes. You see-"
"Melissa and I are moving back in together," Allison's confused frown deepened further as her father dissolved into a stuttering mess, "Uh, we lived together before. We're together. Dating. Well, more than dating. I sort of moved out, then back in and then-"
"She gets it Chris." Melissa interrupted, cutting him off.
Allison smiled kindly at her, rolling her eyes as she gave her dad a reassuring hug. "That would be great Melissa, thank you."
Eli stepped between his Grandmother and Argent, raising a finger in question. Derek groaned, recognizing the look of mischief on his son's face.
"Does this mean I can call you Grandpa?"
Hours later, after one exhausted trip to Lowes and a mass exodus of the pack from their house, Derek and Sadie were finally alone. Sadie could hear the loud snores from her son's room down the hall as she laid pressed against her husband, head resting on his bare chest. Derek's hand lazily ran up and down her naked back. Her eyes were closed as she listened to the steady thump of his heart in his chest.
"I can hear you thinking," Derek teased softly, giving the end of one of her curls a tug. Sadie lifted her head, pressing a kiss to his chest before she crawled up to him. Swinging a leg over him so that she was straddling his chest.
Derek sighed contentedly, closing his eyes as she carded a hand through his hair, "I was thinking about Peter."
"You were thinking about my Uncle after we had sex? We need to go again."
Sadie swatted his chest, giving his hair a teasing pull, eliciting a low growl from him. "No, dumb ass. I was just thinking that if you wanted to do something for him, you know…in his memory, I want to help you."
Derek raised an eyebrow at his wife's suggestion, "You hated him."
"I don't know if I'd call it hate so much as loathed him entirely,"
"Same thing."
Sadie pinched his chest in retaliation, earning her a pinch below the covers. She squeaked, allowing Derek to roll her beneath him, his eyes flashing blue for the briefest moment as he moved to close the space between them.
His face in her hands, she halted his movements. "I'm serious Derek! I hated him, okay? But he saved our lives, saved your life. I wouldn't be here with you right now if it wasn't for him. So if you want to do something, like a wake or service…I want to help you. I owe him that much. I owe him for the life he inadvertently gave me when he gave me the bite. I won't pressure you into it if you really don't want to. I won't ever pressure you into anything, you know that."
Derek studied her for a moment, taking in the serious furrow of her brow, down to her mouth as she nervously chewed on her lower lip. "You really mean that, don't you?" Sadie nodded as Derek's thumb came up to free her worrying lip, moving to graze across her cheek.
"How do I even deserve you?" he asked himself softly, wearing the self-deprecating look she hadn't seen on him in years. How could after all this time, still doubt his worth? He was worth everything to her. He was her mate. Her life.
Sadie pulled him down to her, closing the remaining space between them. Her lips pressed hotly up the line of his neck, nipping at his earlobe before whispering, "Everything. You deserve everything Derek."
