Hello everyone! It's been a while, sorry about the wait! I kinda got stuck in a bit of a difficult patch when figuring out how to write this chapter, but I think it turned out well!
Thank you to everyone who's read, reviewed, favored and followed, I really appreciate it! I hope you're all ready to meet more of the cast now! Enjoy!
Juri hadn't thought twice upon discovering the forest near her cottage and ran into it. It seemed like a much better starting point of exploration compared to the explicitly labeled movie theater a short distance away.
Her cottage had been startling enough as it was, decorated with bright shades of purple, some so bright as to hurt her eyes, and with posters showing off every character she'd ever portrayed. It had been unsettling, seeing the printed eyes of her various characters staring down at her. The ominous addition of the matching outfits in her closet had set her heart racing so fast, she had to flee.
Her heart was still racing and she had to fight the urge to jump at every little sound she heard. God, she needed a drink.
But then she glanced down at her ring finger and bit her lip, hard. Shizu wouldn't want her to give in, especially that last argument they had over Juri's drinking. She didn't have a problem, but Shizu caught her on a bad day.
Juri's heart ached as she thought of Shizu. Silently, with a clenched fist, she swore to return to her.
By the time she made this promise and looked up, she found herself outside the forest, having apparently cleared it without thinking.
Blinking repeatedly in the sudden shift in light, Juri took in her surroundings. This side of the forest, wherever it was, seemed to be more…organized was the word she'd use. Everything she could see seemed to be set up in a grid pattern, making each building easy to find in comparison to where one would start, if they knew where to look.
The only interesting sight, in Juri's eyes, was the young woman standing on the edge of the forest a short distance from her. She looked young and like something out of a detective noir movie.
Actually, Juri was pretty certain she had voice acted in a detective noir movie that the young woman would fit right in with.
"Are you okay?" Juri called out, alerting the woman to her presence.
It obviously wasn't a good idea as the young woman jumped only to fall onto the forest floor, her fedora falling over her eyes.
"Oh, geez, sorry!" Juri exclaimed as she ran over to the woman. "Here, let me help you up." The woman took her hand and adjusted her fedora once she was standing.
As the woman inspected her, Juri did the same. She looked young, couldn't be any older than twenty by Juri's estimate. But the way she held herself gave her the confidence of an adult.
"Thanks for helping me. I'm Sarah Woodstein, journalist," the woman, Woodstein, smiled. She smoothly turned the hand Juri had helped her to stand with into a handshake. Juri let out a shaky breath before she smiled at Sarah.
"Hi, I'm Juri Kuramoto, Ultimate Voice Actress; it's a pleasure, although I suppose our meeting could be under better circumstances," Juri introduced herself.
"I can't say I disagree," Woodstein laughed as she pulled her hand back. "Have you been exploring too? I haven't seen anything that stands out, outside of this forest, that is."
"Yes, I agree. It's certainly the darkest part I've seen so far, not to mention the most plain." Juri nodded. Her fingers reached up to play with her ponytail as she spoke. Woodstein seemed to be an enthusiastic and inquisitive journalist, though her Japanese was a bit clunky, an obvious sign that she was not a native speaker.
"Plain?" Sarah questioned, confused. "Most of what I've seen has been pretty minimalist so far."
"Really? I've seen a lot of…personality, let's say, in what I've explored. Though why there's a movie theater but not a dining hall is beyond me," Juri sighed.
Woodstein dug out a notepad then and began jotting down notes, her brow furrowed. Juri couldn't help the slightly amused smile that grew on her lips. Her tongue was sticking out slightly in her concentration, her eyes never leaving her pen scraping across the paper.
"Say, which way did you come from?" Woodstein asked, curiosity tinting her voice.
"I just came through the forest, it wasn't too bad actually. Why?" Juri answered. Her fingers were slowly tangling and then untangling from her hair.
"Because I came from this side, I haven't entered the forest. And this side has a pretty minimalistic design sense," Woodstein explained.
"While the other side has a lot more personality, from the little I've seen of it," Juri hummed in agreement as she thought it over. It was a logical way of thinking. "So most likely…there's more than one person designing things here."
"I agree." Woodstein nodded thoughtfully, marking something in her notepad. "Do you have any theories on where we are or why?"
"I don't want to speculate on anything regarding the 'why'," Juri smiled apologetically. Her thought process wasn't something she wanted to share with the younger woman at this moment. It was far too grim a thought, one that made Juri feel as if she was about to break out into a sweat or claw her nails into her skin. "But in terms of where exactly, I don't have a clue."
"Neither does anyone else, all Wally could identify was that the statue garden looked Italian," Woodstein hummed, tapping her pen against her chin in thought.
"I see…well, there isn't much of a point in speculating. Perhaps there's some more clues to be found on both sides of the forest. I admit I headed straight here instead of exploring the other side thoroughly," Juri admitted with a shrug.
"Nothing wrong with that!" Woodstein reassured her with a bright smile. "Why don't we split up then? I'll go check out the rest of this side and you go back to the other side, and we'll meet up later?"
"That sounds like a good plan, Woodstein-san," Juri smiled, tilting her head slightly, which caused her hair to fall over her shoulder. It was better to err on the side of formality, in case Sarah's grasp of the language was too shaky. Besides, she wanted the younger woman to trust her.
"Wow, so many formal people here, please call me 'Sarah'!" Wood-Sarah insisted. "I want to be your friend, and everyone else's too, okay?"
"Okay," Juri agreed, a laugh flowing through her words. Sarah was proving to be a young woman with her own set of rules, and Juri couldn't help the small relief her cheer caused to flow through her heart. It was a soothing balm to the fear in her soul.
"Catch you later, Juri!" Sarah tipped her fedora.
"Indeed you shall, Sarah." Juri bowed in response, smiling as kindly as she could. Sarah beamed at her in response before she ran back the way she no doubt came.
With one last quiet smile, and a glance at the book she'd found in her room to confirm the new profile that had appeared, Juri turned back and made her way through the forest. She still felt uneasy and scared, but the anxiety and longing for a drink had begun to ebb away.
If her suspicions were correct, she'd need all her mental faculties intact.
As soon as she cleared the forest, Juri made her way towards the movie theater, undeniably curious.
The building was single storied and each side of the building was a different color, with words emblazoned on them such as 'coming soon' or 'you don't want to miss this'. The front had two red doors that reminded Juri of apples and above them was a large film reel with the film unwinding, announcing the building's purpose.
Once she stepped inside, Juri found herself blinking repeatedly.
She could see a large and colorful ticket booth, with the word 'ticket' emblazoned on the top in gold letters with black detailing. Behind it, she could see a concession stand that had no menu outside of large pictures of popcorn, candy and a soda cup. From there, the theater split into two hallways, which Juri assumed led to the theaters, though what kind of movies they would be showing, she had no idea.
There were posters on the wall, as if to advertise some films, but they were all black. Next to each poster was a pair of dark black wings that otherwise reminded Juri of angel wings.
The building definitely had a lot of personality, like Juri had thought from simply seeing the outside. The most interesting aspect, however, was the woman standing near the ticket booth.
Even with her back facing Juri, the woman was still eye-catching. Her waist length strawberry blonde hair was half up in a braid, while the other half fell freely in full bodied curls. She also wore a light blue ballgown, which had a wide sweeping collar, a full skirt that stopped just at her ankles and sleeves that rested delicately against her elbows. As Juri stepped closer, she could pick out a swallow pattern along the gown's hem and collar, along with the simple, understated silver flats the woman wore. When Juri lightly cleared her throat, the woman turned, revealing startling silver eyes in a delicate face. She also wore a silver locket and a silver choker around her neck, along with a single silver bracelet on each wrist.
"Hello, I'm sorry to startle you. I'm Juri Kuramoto, the Ultimate Voice Actress," Juri smiled in greeting. Unlike Sarah, the woman was obviously older, perhaps only a few years Juri's junior.
"Oh, hello. I know these aren't the best circumstances, but it's a pleasure to meet you. I'm Ophelia Dubois. I'm the Ultimate Shakespeare Actress," the woman, Dubois, smiled.
Ophelia Dubois
Ultimate Shakespeare Actress
"Oh, you're an actress too? I can't believe I've never heard of your work before, Dubois-san. I'm a big fan of the theater," Juri smiled, taking Dubois' offered hand to shake it.
"Um…I may be from the House Dubois, but you don't need to call me '-san'. Just 'Ophelia' will do." Ophelia blushed slightly as she said the words. Her Japanese was absolutely perfect, with only the barest traces of a British accent. "But do you have a favorite play? I am also quite fond of the theater, of course."
"Hm, I don't have a specific favorite, there's just so many to choose from," Juri hummed thoughtfully. "It's strange that a place like this would be here though."
"That all depends on where 'here' is, after all," Ophelia pointed out. "Perhaps we are at a resort, then the addition of a movie theater wouldn't seem so strange."
"Maybe, but even still," Juri sighed. "Have you seen anyone else since you woke up?"
"Oh, yes, a few. They're…an interesting sort, to say the least," Ophelia smiled a bit sheepishly. "I wished to look over the theater more. Perhaps there were some clues here of where we are, or perhaps some supplies. It wouldn't do for us to run out of food or water."
"That's a good idea," Juri encouraged. "We never know when resources could be sparse, so we have to survive on what we have on hand."
"Exactly." Ophelia nodded, a grateful smile on her lips. "Have you explored elsewhere, Juri? I haven't gone too much farther than the area around here."
"Yeah, actually. The forest back there, if you go through it, there's a whole other side to this place," Juri confirmed. "It's a little unbelievable, like the forest is a boundary line."
Honestly, Juri wasn't sure what she would have done if the forest hadn't led anywhere. Just the thought sent shivers down her spine and her fingers itching for a drink.
"Oh, I may have to venture there then, who knows what else could be over there." Ophelia placed a finger to her chin as she thought.
"I'm sure the others over there, such as Sarah, would appreciate the help," Juri agreed. "I'm going to explore the rest of this side though, see what else there is that I missed."
"Good luck, it's…quite the experience," Ophelia said, with all the grandiose of an experienced stage actress.
"Why thank you, my lady," Juri smiled, curtsying as she changed her voice to an overly grand lady-in-waiting.
Ophelia smiled so widely, she resembled the sun and Juri couldn't ever regret playing along.
She had a feeling the two of them each made a very good friend.

Not too far from the theater, Juri came across a building that was shaped like a pizza. It was standing straight up, showing off the cheese and pepperoni to all who saw it, making a sign functionally unnecessary. From the outside, it didn't seem to be too big.
But oh, was it a different story once she stepped inside.
The building was somehow larger on the inside then it was on the outside, decorated like a parody of an Italian pizzeria with several options displayed on the walls, several tables and so many Italian flags that Juri thought she might never see another color again.
Thankfully, the rest of the building was a warm almond brown, lightly playing against the stunningly bright decorations. It seemed like a place that Fuyuko would be very comfortable in, in Juri's opinion.
She noticed two people there, one young man and a woman.
The young man had spiky jet black hair that was styled to the right and droopy onyx black eyes. He wore an open long sleeved navy blue and maroon checked button up with the collar stood up, a black t-shirt with a lime green clock graphic, Aegean blue jeans, cedar brown work boots with black laces, a brown leather belt with a steam punk clock belt buckle and a chain necklace with a steam punk clock charm around his neck.
The woman, on the other hand, was a study in complete contrasts to the young man, starting with the dark color of her skin, almost reminiscent of the night sky, in comparison with the pale skin tone of the young man. On top of that, her hair was blue, tied up in a bushy ponytail that reached her shoulders with a small crown braid behind her right ear while the rest swooped to her left and curled inward and dusted with star stickers that seemed to glow between occasional white dyed parts of her hair. Her eyes were a striking purple that stood out against her dark skin. She wore a white top, the bust area and below was done in solid fabric, while a black mesh covered her chest area. The mesh material went up to the collar on her neck, and was completely sleeveless, leaving her shoulders and arms exposed. Overtop all of that, she wore a striped suit that went under the white top area and was slightly undone. The suit was loose enough that the sleeves she wore for it were also loose, leaving her shoulder area to elbow exposed. Her suit had starry symbols etched onto the material and glitter all over it. Her suit dress pants also had stripes but had starry glitter at the bottom that slowly fades away as it goes up. On the side of the pants however was starry fabric that's done in white, purple, and black that was solid the entire way up and down. The pants went up quite high, covering up where her stomach would be. Hanging off the side of the dress plants was transparent fabric with starry trinkets hanging off the end. The fabric had starry glitter etched into it as well and could freely flow without restriction. She also had a fluffy hairpiece on the left side of her hair that's also slightly glowing like the stars in her hair and was done in white and yellow, appearing to look like a horn. She also had a crescent moon trinket in a wavy strand of her hair in the middle, done in silver, a white bow in the back to tie up her ponytail (done with star symbols). For her face, she had star-like paint and stickers done below her eyes that were bright white. She wore golden colored glasses that were circular. Finally, she had a silver neck collar with three purple gem pieces and one piece hanging off that's a yellow star shape.
"Oh come on, my dear Starlight, you mustn't be so pessimistic! It's clear as day given that I'm here, that we've all been welcomed into a vacation destination of some kind! Yes, I have certainly been working hard these last few days, so my managers probably sought to give this striking star a moment's rest back into the night! I would've liked a little notice personally, but this just might be a surprise for me! And you must be a fan that won the raffle to spend this vacation in my brilliant gaze!" the woman declared. She struck a pose as she did so, winking at the young man.
"But I don't remember anything like that. I didn't even know who you were before you told me your name," the young man argued. He shifted then, placing a hand to his chin. If Juri had been watching them from further back, it would have looked like the two of them were mirror images of each other.
"I-I told y-y-you! That's ludicrous!" the woman cried, her face turning bright red. "I'm the Radiant Star, Estelle Luciana, after all! Everyone knows me!"
"Well, not me," the young man muttered, sullenly kicking the ground.
"Uh, excuse me?" Juri called out, hesitating to interrupt.
"Oh! My my~ Ladies and gentlemen of the court, I presume you've waited long enough for the REAL star to shine tonight. To quench your insatiable desire for my reveal, may the one and only queen of the stars grace you all! I, The Noble Of The Night, The Majesty Of The Stars, The Entertainer From The Sky, The Bringer Of Light During The Dark Night, The Starry Beauty, officially come forth and bring you endless entertainment, for I am your Radiant Moonglow Host… Estelle Luciana! It's a pleasure to have your eyes drawn to me tonight!" the woman, Luciana, beamed. Her voice was haughty and prideful, her eyes sparkling as she extended a hand to Juri.
Juri was…speechless for a minute.
"See? She doesn't know who you are either." The young man stuck his tongue out childishly. "What does that even mean, all those titles?"
"W-what?! I-it's my titles that my adoring fans gave me! Haven't either of you ever seen The Starlight's Late Night Talk?" Luciana asked, her eyes wide in disbelief.
Estelle Luciana
Ultimate Late Night Show Host
"I'm afraid not, but I'd love to see it sometime," Juri smiled reassuringly. "I'm Juri Kuramoto, the Ultimate Voice Actress. It's a pleasure to meet you, Luciana-san."
"Oh, no please, call me Estelle!" Estelle insisted with a slight slur to her Japanese, her manner perking up instantly as she pulled out a signed picture of her. "Here, to show off to your family and friends, and so you never forget our auspicious meeting today!"
"I shall treasure it forever." Juri nodded seriously, tucking the picture away. Estelle beamed, lighting up like the stars she seemed so fond of. "May I ask your name as well?"
"Obi Nobuo. I'm a clock maker," the young man, Nobuo, admitted.
Obi Nobuo
Ultimate Clock Maker
"Are you in any anime I'd know about?" Nobuo asked, his eyes widening in childlike awe suddenly. "I'm a big fan of Many Piece, are you in it?"
"I'm afraid not, Nobuo-kun. I was…tied up, so to speak, when there were auditions," Juri admitted. Many Piece had been a favorite of hers as well, it was something Yuu and her often watched when they had sleepovers as kids. She had a lot of good memories of those times.
"Aw, no need to be so formal, we're all friends here!" Estelle cut in. "Isn't that right, Obi?"
"Huh? Oh, yeah, you can call me 'Obi'. Can I call you 'Juri'?" Obi smiled. He was bouncing on the balls of his heels, as if he couldn't contain the energy in his body.
"Of course," Juri smiled. "Did you guys find anything interesting here?"
"There's all the ingredients needed to make a pizza," Obi answered. "I found some mint tea in the back too, which is great."
"They have all sorts of different flavors too! I can't wait to try new combos of pizza, my local pizzeria was so lacking in creativity!" Estelle added with a bright smile.
"Seems like a curious addition to include," Juri commented.
"Why ever would you say that? We're simply on an all expense paid vacation, after all!" Estelle insisted, her head tilted to the side slightly in confusion.
"I…still don't know about that," Obi admitted.
Estelle pouted dramatically at that and Juri found herself chuckling good-naturedly.
"Well, there's still more to explore. Maybe we'll find something to prove either theory right," she said.
"Brilliantly said, my dear Starlight!" Estelle beamed. "Come, Obi, let us explore further and find the venue for my upcoming performance!"
"Wait, what?!" Obi cried in surprise. A second later, Estelle had his wrist clutched tightly in her hand, pulling him towards the door without a hint of delay.
Juri wasn't honestly sure if she should laugh or feel pity at the sight.

The next place Juri stumbled upon, to her surprise, was a library. The outside seemed pretty ordinary, a two story building with large glass windows to let in some light.
The inside was gorgeous, with many shelves that Juri was pretty sure had to be oak, covered in books of all shapes and colors. Each section was clearly labeled with topics from 'children's' to 'naughty', which made her cringe a bit at the labeling. There was a stairway to the second floor, but a large black gate closed over it, the spikes of it looking jagged.
There were also various places to sit, some shaped like actual books while others were regular beanbags. There was even a fountain in the center, so extravagant that Juri was shocked it fit in the building.
It just…didn't seem to fit the rest of this side of the forest, in Juri's opinion.
There was also a man among the shelves, holding a book that he seemed to be engrossed in.
He had short raven black hair and green-gray eyes that looked like the color of swamp water in his sunken features. He wore a black business suit with a white dress shirt, an onyx tie, a black wristwatch and black dress shoes.
Honestly, he would only fit in more with the library if he had a pair of glasses resting on the edge of his nose, but sadly not.
"Excuse me," Juri quietly greeted the man as she approached him. "I don't believe we've met. I'm Juri Kuramoto, the Ultimate Voice Actress."
The man snapped his book sharply and turned to her with a cold, disdainful look in his eyes.
"Hi, my name is Simon Torsky. I'm the Ultimate Chess Player and I'm so incredibly glad you're bothering me to find out," the man, Torsky, greeted her. Even his Japanese was cold and arrogant, with the slightest hint of sarcasm.
Simon Torsky
Ultimate Chess Player
"I'm sorry for interrupting you, Torsky-san, but-" Juri started to say.
"Apology accepted, now make yourself scarce, unlike that brute from earlier," Torsky stated, turning away before she could finish speaking. "And don't call me Torsky-san. 'Simon' will do just fine."
Juri was struck speechless for a minute, unsure if she should just leave or protest this treatment.
Simon, however, kept his back to her and simply focused on his book, as if she weren't there at all.
Feeling more than a bit awkward, Juri stepped outside the library.
"Damn annoying prick!" a boy growled, causing Juri to jump.
She turned and her eyes landed on boy of about high school age. He had a large, bulking figure with spiky brown hair and light blue eyes. He wore a white karate gi with a blackbelt and no shoes.
He was throwing air punches, as if he were trying to work out some stress he was under.
"Um…" Juri started to say.
"What?" the boy cried as he whirled around to face Juri. This time, Juri didn't flinch nearly as badly. The boy stared at her for a second before he deflated. "Sorry."
"It's okay. You seemed frustrated," Juri commented sympathetically.
"It's that damn prick in the library," the boy growled again. "Who does he think he is, throwing words in my face like I don't know what they mean? Even if I didn't, it's not like I was gonna back down. To back down is to show weakness and I won't do that!"
"Ah, so you've met Simon," Juri chuckled slightly. "I can see why you'd have such a reaction. I can provide a distraction, if nothing else. I'm Juri Kuramoto, the Ultimate Voice Actress."
"…Ryu Jigoro, Ultimate Karateka. Just call me 'Ryu'," the boy, Ryu, introduced.
Ryu Jigoro
Ultimate Karateka
"It's nice to meet you, Ryu," Juri smiled. "Were you just exploring or was there a reason you went into the library?"
"I dunno, just checking things out. Figured I'd find some cookbooks in there so I'm not stuck with that shitty pizza." Ryu crossed his arms, shrugging slightly.
"Oh, you like to cook?" Juri smiled brightly. "How good is your yakiniku? My wife, Shizu, and I cook together a lot, but yakiniku is my favorite."
"I make a mean yakiniku," Ryu smiled. "If I can find all the ingredients, I can show you my recipe."
"I would love that," Juri beamed. Ryu smiled back at her, his shoulders seeming to relax. "Do you know a lot of recipes?"
"Yeah, gotta keep my muscle mass up," Ryu answered, raising his arms to show off his muscles. "Can't protect anyone if I'm not in shape."
"Protecting people…I understand the feeling," Juri smiled bittersweetly. She could remember Issaku, his kind eyes and determination to end their own killing game.
Her heart ached, wondering what happened to Issaku, how he died. The memories were so faint…
"I can help protect you too," Ryu offered, almost offhandedly. Juri looked up in surprise.
"Thank you…that's really kind of you," she smiled.
Ryu looked away a bit awkwardly, rubbing the back of his neck.
"I'm gonna go check some more things out. Thanks for talking to me or whatever," he said.
Before Juri could say a word, Ryu walked off. She let out a faint giggle, waving goodbye at his back.

Juri found herself making her way back towards the forest, almost without thinking about it.
The people she'd met had certainly made the itch to find a bottle of booze less all consuming, but Juri didn't like how as soon as she was surrounded by quiet her focus returned to it.
She promised Shizu, dammit.
"Hi there!"
Juri jumped as she turned, seeing a boy smiling brightly as he approached her from near the forest.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you!" he apologized. He had tan skin, dark brown medium length hair with a streak of green, one brown eye, one green eye and a smattering of freckles across his nose. He wore a brown t-shirt with a navy blue stripe on the front, torn and messy jeans, black work boots, a muted green unbuttoned jacket, a tan Panama hat with a black stripe and black fingerless gloves.
"It's okay, I was just lost in thought," Juri smiled. "I'm Juri Kuramoto, the Ultimate Voice Actress."
"It's nice to meet you Juri! I'm Yūma Gushiken! My pronouns are he/they, so you can use either one for me," Yūma smiled. "You must be pretty talented to be a voice actress! I can't remember if I had any talents, personally."

"Ah, I'm sorry Yūma. If it makes you feel better, I'm trans," Juri said. Yūma's eyes, if it was even possible, got wider.
"Really? That's cool! I can't remember if I met a trans person before," they said. "But then again, I can't remember much."
"Oh…I'm so sorry," Juri said, sympathetically. "My memory is being a bit fickle too. But maybe someone here could help you?"
"Maybe," Yūma confirmed, looking a bit unsure, hints of frustration in his gaze. "I hope I was someone nice, I don't think I'd like to be someone bad. Ah, sorry, that's probably too selfish. How are you? Did you meet everyone?"
"No, not yet, I'm getting close though," Juri smiled. "What about you?"
"I've met a few!" Yūma declared happily. "Everyone I've met seems really nice so far, I hope we all get along!"
"So do I," Juri agreed, keeping her voice soft. Yūma reminded her almost of a little kid with how enthusiastic they were being.
"It's gonna be great, like a vacation, you'll see!" Yūma beamed. "I can't wait to meet everyone else and see who else I've missed. Ooooh, is that an ice cream shop?!"
Yūma took off without looking back and Juri couldn't stop the smile that crossed her lips.
With people like Sarah and Yūma here, she had a feeling things were going to be a bit more tolerable than they otherwise might have been.
