Cristina had only gotten 3 hours of sleep before it was time for her shift. She needed a good surgery but with Dr. Hunt on her ass all the time she saw a small possibility for that to happen.

"Hey, are you scrubbing in on anything today?" Meredith asked as she looked at a chart.

Cristina sighed, "I don't think Hunt will do me such pleasure."

"Hunt's a pain? No surprise there," Derek mumbled as he walked past them.

"So he still hates your guts huh? He kissed you twice!" Meredith asked confused.

"There was no second kiss what are you talking about? Don't tell me the Alzheimers gene already kicked in?"

"I'm sure he's just trying to be professional," Meredith reassured her.

"Being professional doesn't mean yelling at a resident when they're doing an x-ray at their own pace," Cristina mumbled.

"What are you going to do about it then?"

"I'm not going to do anything about it. I need to focus on studying on my boards," Cristina said.

"How about this then what if he quit the military for you? I mean, that would be severely stalkery, but very romantic," Meredith gushed at her.

"I'm not getting involved with someone from the hospital he just kissed me it was nothing so shut up and go mangle some interns," Cristina said as she walked away from the nurse's station.

"Unidentified male mid 30's lost vitals in the field shocked him back to sinus tach rigid abdomen head injuries possible cardiac contusion and burns. Cops think someone threw him over."

"After they beat him half to death?" Cristina asked. The man's injuries were severe and obvious it was an act of violence. Cristina was asking the chief when the top resident of this year's class would be announced when lexie said, "His IV blew!"Which was before Cristina could finish asking the chief. "Yang he needs access now," Owen stepped in.

"I'm doing it right now..." she trailed off as Owen took over.

"Geez give me a second to at least finish my question."

"If you were less worried about winning contests then you might have thought of it," Owen grumbled. He needed to teach these interns and residents there is no luxury in the ER. Trauma is quick and dirty and every second meant life or death.

Cristina knew she was in for a long day whatever she did seem to get a reaction from everything she worked on was too slow for him.

"Have you figured out why Hunt hates you?" Mere asked Cristina.

"Nope, he's been on my ass all day I don't know what I did."

"I heard he stabbed pigs during a skills lab what should we name him McArmy? McTough? McRedhead?" Meredith suggested.

"Mckiller!" Izzie shouted slamming her lunch tray at the table, "We have technology that doesn't require us to torture live creatures he's a sadistic inhumane killer. I can't believe he is the head of a trauma unit."

Alex pulled up a chair next to Meredith and chimed in, "Well at least we're being reclassified as a number one trauma unit with Dr. Hunt besides he's kind of badass which we're in desperate need of. Shepherd's perfect hair and O'malleys Bambi eyes drain all the testosterone in this hospital."

"You do realize that Derek is my fiance?" Meredith asked Alex.

"Whatever He doesn't like Izzie that's for sure. She called him a monster," Alex laughed.

"I have got to get away from Izzie. I can't take it anymore she wants me to go to the bridal shop tomorrow and try on dresses. She told me to pick out my bridesmaids can you believe it? I don't need all this bullshit for just one day," Meredith exclaimed.

"I warned you don't come to me if Izzie goes all bridezilla plus I'm sure Izzie is dying to be one of the bridesmaids," Cristina reminded her."Now you know all the pain I was in with Burke."

"I know but will you be my maid of honor?" Meredith asked looking at Cristina and waiting for a response.

"Nope, I hate weddings. I hate them more than before you can thank Burke for that. I'm not going to be the one making a speech at the reception or throwing you a bachelorette party."

"Please, Cristina! I was your maid of honor at your wedding! Just do this for me you're my person I need you to make sure you get my ass down the aisle."

"Well, first of all, there was no wedding Burke chickened out at the last second, and fine I'll be your maid of honor, but I'm not wearing pink so choose wisely and don't make me look like a fool," Cristina warned her.

"Can I help you?" Owen asked Shepherd and Sloan, "Yeah Yang paged us."

"We've got it covered."

"A head injury and burns don't think you have it covered," Shepard mentioned.

"Yang, are you a doctor?" Owen asked.

"Yes sir."

"Capable of assessing a patient's injuries?" He asked.

"Again I'm a fifth year," she added annoyed.

Owen turned back to Shepherd and Sloan, "As I said, we got it covered."

"Why don't you let us just dive in?" Derek asked getting annoyed every second he talked to this jackass.

"Appreciate the offer, Shepherd but I want my residents to learn how to deal with trauma. They're not gonna learn as much or as fast if they stand back, and watch attendings do it unless that attending is me."

"Should I book an OR?" Cristina asked him.

"His scalp is bleeding like do you do next?"

"Well," Cristina started, "Normally, I'd page shepherd."

"Shepherd's not here. What do you do to stop the bleeding?" He asked curiously for her answer.

"Suture the laceration, and tie off the bleeders which will take 2 hours."

He shook his head no, "What would you use in this room to take care of this?"

"Uh... Staples?"

"It's his forehead. You want this guy to look like Frankenstein for the rest of his life?" He said in a harsh matter.

"Fine then what about skin glue?"

"Excellent Yang clean it and close it," he said as he went to the next exam room.

"More like the attending who somehow thinks I'm incapable can choke on his own words at the end of the day," Cristina muttered.

"Meredith what am I doing here in a bridal shop in the middle of my shift?" Cristina complained.

"Hey it's not like I want to be here either but Izzie is taking full advantage of this and she's enjoying torturing me with dresses."

"I hate weddings with the long speeches and the limited food," Cristina mumbled.

"But this isn't your wedding Cristina," Izzie chimed in.

"Ok so? It doesn't change the fact that I hate them and I have to be in it"

"Well if you're going to be like that don't overdo it with your face when we take pictures at the actual wedding," Izzie suggested.

"Vail or no vail?" Meredith asked.

"I don't know I'm not the bride unless you want to get married under a mosquito net," Cristina mumbled.

"Mere! You still have 2 more dresses to try on!" Izzie shouted.

Cristina get her in here!" Izzie shouted.

"That dress is so hideous," Cristina laughed.

"Isn't there a tiara that goes along with it? Oh put it on so I can get the full effect!" Izzie said.

Cristina turned to Meredith, "Have you gotten Derek a present yet?"

"Meredith almost dropped the fake bouquet, "I was supposed to get him a present? See this is why weddings are so stupid. I mean our life together should be the present."

"Meredith the wedding is next week how could you forget this?" Izzie scolded her.

"I didn't know it is our first time getting married I'm sure Derek doesn't even know."

"Get him a stripper he'll enjoy that," Cristina suggested.

"That's not funny!" Meredith elbowed Cristina.

"Hunt, can I talk to you?" Derek asked.

"Sure."

"Yang," Sloan said gesturing for her to leave.

"No she can stay," Owen mentioned.

"You want Yang to hear how you screwed up the flap on my head trauma that's fine with me," Derek said.

"My job is to keep him alive That's what I did," Owen argued.

"No what you did was almost maim a guy for the rest of his life," Derek threw back at him. "You're lucky I saved the blood supply."

Cristina was watching the three surgeons argue back and forward she thought Owen deserved to have a hell of a day for the way he had treated her today.

"I can believe we're standing here debating about this," Derek said.

Owen turned back to the nurse's station and saw Cristina staring at him, "Is there something you need Dr. Yang?" avoiding her gaze.

"Can I speak to you in private?" she asked.

"Yes," he said as he lead them into an empty conference room.

"Do you have something against me?" Cristina asked crossing her arms against her chest.

"I- No I don't," Owen said wondering what this was about.

"Then what is your problem? You've been yelling at me this past week for literally no reason. When I do something it's either too slow or not right. I didn't do anything to be treated like a second-class citizen," she spat out.

"I don't have a problem with you I've been trying to teach you and other residents to do things on your own because when you become attendings next year there isn't going to be anyone whos going to be looking after you."

"The decisions you make as an attending are going to reflect on you not anyone else. I'm your attending and if you can't handle a harsh attending then you shouldn't be in this program," he suggested as he turned to the door.

Cristina knew this wasn't just about that. In fact, it was mainly about this one pig who stood in front of her. "Seriously, you don't remember my name?"

Owen spun around surprised she cared. She cared whether or not he remembered? she remembered, she cared. Thinking fast, he needed to, he wanted to explain, "I remember your name but that was before. During this last tour, I was on a forward surgical team We uh... treated combat casualties in the field. You're mostly looking to do damage control you treat 'em then get the hell out of there.

"Only this one time we didn't get out fast enough because we ended up in the middle of an RPG ambush. There were 20 people in my unit including me and 19 died then I got discharged and I'm not there anymore in the before. I knew your name in the before but now I'm living in the after," he finished as he left the conference room.

Owen spat out the events that lead to his presence in Seattle Grace in one mouthful. This was the first time he vocalized what had happened to anyone outside of Iraq. First time reliving that moment in the real world. Air was thinning around him and he felt his throat tightening. He drew back, turned around, and quickly fled

Owen clenched both of his fists a bit angry for sharing something so soon. He had sworn to himself that maintaining professionalism was the way to survive in this hospital. This was the first time he vocalized what had happened to anyone outside of Iraq.

Air was thinning around him and he felt his throat tightening. He looked at the dark sky and told himself to keep his distance from Cristina Yang at all times.
