Note: This was supposed to just be one chapter, then it turned into two and now it's turned into more. I was just wondering if it's something that people would like to read multi-chapters of.
It's a little after 7:30am when she slowly makes her way into the practically empty bullpen and begins the short walk upstairs to Hotch's office. Today marks her first official day back at the BAU and to say she's feeling all the emotions right now would be an understatement.
'Prentiss, come on in... Close the door behind you and have a seat.' Hotch says, a small smile on his face as she appears outside the door to his office. Following his instructions, she makes her way into the room and closes the door before taking a seat at the opposite side of his desk.
'Firstly, it's good to finally have you back where you belong. How are you feeling about being back?' He asks sliding a glass of water across the desk to her. He watches as she lets out a breath she didn't know she was holding and glances out the window into the bullpen.
'Honestly?' She says and he nods his head.
'I don't know. On one hand, I'm so happy to be back. I'm so happy to be able to speak to everyone that I love again and to just go back to being me.' She continues.
'But?' He asks.
'But I guess there is a huge part of me that is apprehensive. I faked my death to some of the people who mean the most to me... Spencer can barely look at me and I know Derek is keeping me at arm's length.' She replies shaking her head.
'I want you to know that I have made it very clear to them that you didn't have a choice in any of this. We did what we had to do to keep you alive... If any of them still have an issue with that then they can take it up with me and you can tell them that if they give you any hassle.' He says.
'Doesn't make it any easier for them to get over it though, does it? Sometimes I wonder if it would have been easier for everyone if I'd just gone back to Paris after making sure Declan was settled.' She admits shrugging her shoulders.
'Reid and Morgan just need time to process everything. They spent seven months thinking you were dead and then suddenly in the blink of an eye you were standing in front of them. I know I speak on behalf of myself, JJ, Garcia and Rossi when I say that we are all so glad to have you back with us.' He says watching her sigh as she takes a sip of water.
'How is Declan doing?' He asks softly.
'As can be expected I suppose. Tom managed to get some time off work and we got him into therapy so that he can process everything that happened, everything he witnessed... He'll be okay, I think.' She replies and he nods his head.
'And how are you doing? You've been through so much in such a short amount of time. That would be a lot for anyone to deal with?' He asks.
'I'm okay.' She replies shrugging her shoulders.
'Don't lie to me, Prentiss.' He says softly as he shakes his head.
'It's a process... It's something I'm still trying to work through. It won't happen over night.' She replies and he smiles.
'I wouldn't expect it to.' He says.
'After it all happened- I mean everything with Declan being taken and Doyle dying, I went to Jj's and I drank far too much whisky. For a short time I just wanted to numb all the feelings because I was having so many of them. I slept on JJ's sofa.' She admits causing him to smile slightly.
'Understandable. I don't want you to think that you can't talk to me about what is going on in your head. I've never done an undercover mission like you did with Doyle so I don't have that kind of experience but I know that it could've have been easy and I want you to know that my door is always open, my phone is always on.' He says and she nods her head.
'I have arranged for you to start therapy as part of your return to the BAU. It will take place within working hours and it does not affect your ability to come on cases with us. I know you're not going to like it, but I just need to be sure that you are okay.' He continues.
'Okay.' She replies quietly.
'Okay? I thought I was going to get a bit more push back than that.' He says.
'I'm just glad you wanted me back.' She replies smiling slightly.
'I will always want you back, Emily.' He says smiling.
'I think she's asleep...' JJ says softly as she glances over at her friend who is curled up at the end of the sofa; her head resting against the back cushions and her legs curled underneath her body.
'She looks so peaceful.' Penelope says and JJ nods her head.
'I hate the thought of waking her.' JJ admits.
'Don't. I have a spare room she can have when she wakes.' Rossi says.
'Are you sure?' JJ asks and the older man nods his head.
'She's not found a place yet, has she? She's better being here than being in some hotel room somewhere.' Rossi replies and JJ smiles slightly as she shakes her head.
'I'll drop some fresh clothes for her off in the morning.' JJ says grabbing her bag as Will's hand rests on her lower back. They quietly make their way out of the room as Rossi walks them all to the front door. It's been a night spent cooking, drinking wine and relishing in spending time together again, finally feeling complete.
Her body lunges forward, her breathing heavy as one hand rests on her chest and the other grips the sofa. She flinches slightly as she feels a hand on her shoulder.
'Hey... It's me, it's Rossi.' He says softly. He feels her relax slightly as she attempts to slow down her breathing.
'I brought you some water. Figured you were dreaming and would need it when you woke.' He adds passing the glass to her as he makes his way round to sit next to her.
'Thank you.' She replies quietly.
'How long have they been happening?' He asks softly.
'Since I got to Paris... I think by that time I had healed enough to begin to deal with all the shit that had happened.' She admits taking a sip of the water and placing it on the coffee table in front of them.
'Are they always about the same thing?' He asks as she bites her bottom lip.
'Mostly. They're always about Doyle; they just vary in what they involves... Before, when I was in Paris they always included him going after you guys but since I've been back they-' She begins taking a deep breath as she glances away from him.
'They've been about his death?' He asks and she nods her head.
'You've been through a lot, Emily. You should speak to someone, a therapist?' He suggests.
'Hotch has arranged for me to speak to start therapy as part of my return.' She replies and he nods his head.
'That's a good plan. Be honest with them, Emily. Otherwise you'll spend the rest of your life with the inside of your own head driving you crazy.' He says.
'I should get going... What time is it?' She asks glancing around.
'It's like three in the morning, Emily. You aren't going anywhere; you can go up to the spare room and get some sleep in there. JJ says she'll drop by with some fresh clothes for you in the morning.' He explains.
'Thank you.' She almost whispers, a small smile on her face.
'Anytime.' He replies.
