Hi everyone!
I'm back again with a new collection of One-Shots. Sometimes I find it easier to just write little one shots than to do a great big story, so here I am again. This collection focuses on Trevor and Olivia; they may be flirting friends, they may be lovers - just depends on the piece.
This particular piece is called 'Pick Me Up'. Follows the aftermath of the 500th episode. Trevor comes to see Olivia, and she realizes that he was just looking out for her, as always.
Please enjoy xo
Pick Me Up [Meant To Be Collection]
"Two words of advice - watch yourself. I used to have clients in publishing. He's got a reputation. So just... Eyes open."
As she stared blankly at the papers on her desk, Trevor's words were ringing in her mind. Days ago, he had spoken those exact words as they watched Burton speaking to reporters. Trevor had known something was up then and he subtly warned her.
She should've never rekindled anything with this man in the first place.
She sighed to herself. 'How could I have been so stupid?' she thought to herself. She trusted this man, but in the end, it all blew up in her face. In the end, she was just another victim. Even as she tried to talk to Burton in his hotel room, to at least get him to admit that he was sorry or acknowledge what he had done was wrong, she ended up with nothing more than an aggressive response from him, and a broken heart for herself.
She swiped at the tear that trickled down her cheek. 'Why can't I just be happy? Goddamn.'
She was so lost in thought, partly unaware of how quiet her squad room now was. She had come back to work on some things and found her squad pretty much gone, but she couldn't quite bring herself to go home yet. Noah was at a sleepover anyway, and the last thing she wanted to do was go to a quiet apartment where her thoughts would be too loud for her to even concentrate.
"Thought I'd find you here."
The sound of a deep, familiar voice interrupted her thoughts. She looked up; standing in the doorway of her office was Trevor Langan himself. She saw nothing but concern in the deep green orbs that looked back at her. She pulled herself together quickly as she spoke;
"What are you doing here?"
"Just checking in," he stepped further into the office and closed the door; "You can't return my texts or calls?"
"Oh, sorry...I didn't know," she whipped out her phone, and her eyes went wide as she saw the missed calls and texts from him; "Sorry about that."
"Nah it's okay; I get it," he then sat himself down on one of the chairs in front of her desk, and his voice took on a softer tone as he asked; "Are you okay?"
"I'll live." she murmured. There was silence for a bit, then she spoke up again; "You told me to keep my eyes open; you knew - didn't you?"
Trevor hesitated, then he spoke; "It was just...a vibe I got."
Olivia smirked a little; "Or did you do some digging?"
Trevor let out a little laugh but shrugged his shoulders; "Well I mean, guys like him do have a reputation so I just...had a look around."
Olivia nodded, then she reached over and placed a hand on his arm; "Thanks for having my back."
"Always."
There was more silence, yet it was a comfortable silence. Olivia was just reeling from the effects of everything, and Trevor just wanted to be supportive. He and Olivia had become good friends over the years, especially after he had helped her with Noah's adoption and any subsequent events. They would catch up every now and then, and he would always do anything for her. He could see that this whole situation had really hurt her, and while everything in him wanted to break Burton Lowe's neck for this, he kept his composure and decided to just be there for his friend.
It was Olivia who broke the silence; "Want a drink?"
"Sure, we can go-"
"Nah, it's in my desk," she pulled a bottle of bourbon from the bottom drawer of her desk; "I haven't drank much of it; I keep it here for those really tough cases, the one where I need a drink just to calm down after I've seen God knows what."
Trevor chuckled softly; "Captain Benson; I would've never guessed you as someone for keeping the hard stuff in your desk drawer."
Now it was Olivia's turn to laugh; "Trust me, this job will take you there."
She poured them both a drink, and the two moved over to the couch to sit together and talk some more. As they talked about something completely unrelated to their day, Olivia could feel the stress of the day melting away. Trevor's voice was soothing and she just found herself swept up in whatever story he was telling, no matter how ridiculous it was. She laughed every now and then; a real genuine laugh for the first time in the last day or so, and she was grateful for that feeling. Trevor too was grateful to see her laugh and smile a little. The way her smile spread across her face and the way her nose scrunched up was never a sight he wanted to miss.
When they finished their drinks, he was taken aback when she moved closer and leaned her head on his shoulder. He couldn't stop himself from wrapping his arm around her shoulders and brushing his fingers against her arm; "You good?"
"Mhm, I think so…" she nodded a little, then let out a deep sigh; "Can I just say thank you?"
"For what?"
"For not being a piece of shit," she turned her head to look up at him, "I mean you're still a high priced mouthpiece, but you're not a bad guy; you never were."
"Well thanks...I think," they both laughed, and Trevor gave her an affectionate squeeze; "You never were a bad woman either; just a pain in my ass, but we're cool now."
"I mean I would hope we are cool, considering you helped me adopt my son."
"You should know by now, Liv, I would do anything for you - I always would have."
She thought about his words; he wasn't lying. Trevor really would do anything for her - he always did. She had never forgotten about when he defended her against some bogus charges all those years ago, which really showed her then that he wasn't as bad of a person as she thought. She appreciated that these later years had allowed room for a friendship to blossom between them. He had become someone that she trusted wholeheartedly. In fact, he was probably the only man apart from Fin that she trusted.
"Trevor."
"Hmm?"
She looked up then, her eyes shining with his as she posed her next question; "Do you maybe wanna go grab dinner sometime?"
Trevor's face lit up, and he found himself brushing his fingers against her arm as he replied; "That sounds great."
She nodded and nuzzled her head against his shoulder.
Maybe - just maybe - going to dinner with Trevor Langan would be the start of something so great, after all.
Well, what do we think? I just wanted to do a little Langson, so if you want me to write more, let me know. Thanks for being so supportive of my work as always. Until next time :)
