7G

My phone rang, and I looked up to see Rosalie's face on the intercom's camera. One of the best features in this building was the app-linked intercom so we could see who was there and buzz them in from anywhere. I hit the button to open the building door and then got up to unlock my door.

A few minutes later she dropped onto my couch.

"So, what's the scoop on 7F?"

I looked at her like she'd grown a second head. "What are you talking about?"

"I'm talking about how you were going on about how you never see your cute new next door neighbor and then all of a sudden, it is like he never existed."

"It's nothing."

"Bullshit."

I sighed and pulled out my ponytail, taking my time to redo it before I responded. "I think he's married."

"Did you see a woman with him?"

"I have, but not often. And he wears a wedding ring. Also, he has the cutest little girl."

"Well, fuck. If she doesn't seem to live here, maybe they're divorced."

"Could be, he travels a lot for work."

Rosalie sat up, her head whipping in my direction. "How do you know that?"

"He mentioned it in the elevator the other day. He was taking his daughter to the park and then they were meeting up with her mom."

"I wouldn't give up. If they're split you still have a chance."

"Yeah, because I'm so normal."

"Normal is overrated. I'm stuck in an office 40 hours a week and I fucking hate it."

"I'm not going to be a homewrecker."

"And I'm not telling you to, but if the man is newly single, offer him a cup of sugar. Or a BJ?"

"That right there is why you can't have nice things."

We dissolved into a fit of laughter and then got to work picking out takeout for our movie night.
