It had now been nearly 2 weeks since the Oni had been defeated as well as being 4 years since the Great Devourer had been defeated in the spot where Borg Tower currently resides, and the Ninja were among the guests, as well as educate Mantis about it. "So, this spot was where Lloyd became the Golden Ninja?" Mantis asked as he looked at Borg Tower while straightening his tie as they all head inside.
"And where he destroyed the Great Devourer." Cole replied.
"And over the next year, we started to rebuild the city." Blake said.
"But, I still feel bad about it." Lloyd said, looking down.
"What do you mean, hun?" Gewuji asked, rubbing the front of his green suit jacket.
"Rumi told me there a bunch of people who didn't evacuate in time before I defeated the Great Devourer."
"Come on, Lloyd, don't keep dwelling on that." Kai said. "That was 4 years ago. There had been worse."
"Like what?" They try to think about it as they head inside.
Inside just a few minutes later, the Ninja had now split up to talk with some of the survivors who were invited, with Mantis speaking to a woman around his age. "So, you were in that same building The Quiet One lived in?" He asked.
"Yes." She replied. "I still remember the day her parents made her enter the elevator with us, since there was no room for them. I just couldn't believe that Harumi, a harmless little girl and became the Jade Princess, would grow up to be a criminal."
"I can relate. Not having parents. But, in my case, I never knew mine. Just that they were eaten alive by a dragon."
"I'm sorry to hear it. I actually lost my mother that day, but I forgave Lloyd as she just went in to grab something useless."
Glass clinging was soon heard as everyone turned around to see a middle aged woman on a podium. "Ladies and gentlemen, as candidate for mayor, it gives me great pleasure to say thank you for coming here, to celebrate the fourth year since the defeat of the Great Devourer." She said, and the crowd lightly applauded. "I know that a few of us had lost some people during that day, but this day is also for them, as we raise a glass to remember them, until we pass on ourselves, and reunite with them in the Departed Realm." The crowd applauded again. "And now, here is the hero responsible for the Great Devourer's destruction, Mr. Lloyd Garmadon."
The crowd applauded again as the candidate moved back for Lloyd to come up to the podium. "Thank you, Miss Seosin." He said before turning to the crowd. "4 years ago, today, the Great Devourer attacked Ninjago City. We lost some great people in the rampage, as well as my final attack against it, but I do miss them all. I'm sure many of you are feeling the same. Which is why, I had Zane create a list of names for the people lost in the attack, which I will read out, and mourn them." He gets out a list as everyone started to lower their heads. "'George Carson, Olivia Carson, Frank Carson..." Scars, who was by a table, shedded some tears, happy that his family's names were read out.
After a few minutes of saying names, Lloyd was almost finished. "...and Pamela Welt.'" He soon lowered the list. "All of these people must never be forgotten, as we not only celebrate this day, but also the lives they had lived. If we learn nothing else from this tragedy, we learn that life is short and there is no time for hate." (A/N: The last sentence is a quote from Sandy Dahl, whose husband was pilot of United Airlines Flight 93) The crowd soon applauded. "Thank you." The crowd kept applauding as Lloyd left the podium.
After a couple of hours, involving some dancing, including Mantis still chatting with the woman, everyone started to head home. "Hey, that wasn't so bad." Gewuji said to her boyfriend, referring to his speech.
"I was just never one for speeches. Glad I didn't choke."
"And I'm sure the fallen heard it."
(A/N: This is sort of a dedication to the 2,996 people who died on 9/11, 20 years ago. May they never be forgotten)
