(A/N: I first wrote The Car Accident as a short story a few months ago, but things got in the way, but now I had some to upload the second part)
Within minutes, an ambulance had arrived to examine Jay, whose pulse was around 39 before they load him onto a stretcher to take him to Ninjago City Hospital. Nya was also taken to be examined. Her pulse and blood pressure were extremely high, which was understandable after a traumatic event. The very first thing she did upon being cleared for questioning was checking up on Jay before being questioned by police and left wondering if she could go to jail, but the officer told her that it would depend on the boy's parents.
He was currently lying in a hospital bed with a sling on his left arm, 4 stitches to his head underneath the bandage wrapped around it and on a ventilator with the board over the bed, revealing that his name is Jay Walker and around the same age as her. The doctor explained the crash had left bruising on his right leg, dislocated left shoulder, a few cracked ribs and the skull was cracked at the left from the fall. His heart rate was beeping slowly, which lead her to believe he will die at some point if he doesn't wake up.
As she was soon waiting out in the hallway, Skylor, a teenaged boy with brown hair and a young boy with blonde hair came up to her. "Nya." The boy said, kneeling down to her. "Skylor told me what happened. Are you okay?" Nya doesn't reply. "What's wrong?" She still didn't answer. "Nya, talk to me."
"What if he dies, Kai?" Nya simply asked.
"What?"
"That boy. He's barely our age, probably goes to the same school as us, and now he is lying in that bed on a tube. If he dies, I go to jail."
"Hey, mom will make sure it doesn't happen."
"But I overheard that he had tears on his face, so something must've upset him."
"Nya Lily Smith, nothing bad will happen to you."
An elderly couple had suddenly passed by, carrying flowers and balloons. The wife was in complete tears. "Ooh, my beloved Jay." She said as they head inside the room and Nya notices.
"Don't worry, Edna, he'll pull through." Her husband replied.
Nya soon stood up and prepared to go to them, but the young boy stops her. "Nya, what if they don't want to talk to you?" He asked.
"I'm willing to try, Lloyd." Nya replied before making him let go and went towards them. "Um, excuse me?" They both turn to her. "You're that boy's parents, aren't you?"
"We definitely are." The man said. "Uh, who might you be?"
"My name's Nya." She then lowered her head, ashamed. "I'm the one who ran him over." They were both shocked. "I was still learning to drive. Now, because of me, your son is lying there. It's all my fault." She sobs a little.
She suddenly felt arms wrapped around her and saw it was the elderly woman comforting her. "It's not, sweetheart." She replied. "It's ours."
"What do you mean?"
The woman walks back to explain. "You ever heard of Cliff Gordon?"
"The controversial actor who killed someone?"
They nod. "Well... Jay is his biological son." The elderly man said, surprising her.
"It was not long after we lost our own son, Kirby, to drugs." The elderly woman said. "So, we became foster parents. And Jay had been taken from his mother after Cliff was sent to jail. We taught him everything, even saved up enough to send him to high school. Then, just yesterday, we got a call from Social Services."
"Cliff had finished his sentence and wanted to regain custody of Jay. So, when he got home, the social worker told Jay everything, and we told him he was adopted. He ran out of the house, and that's how he ended up in that accident involving you."
"Why tell me this?" Nya asked. "I don't think you were supposed to tell me."
"Because, as still legally his parents... we're not pressing charges." Nya became surprised.
"It was an accident, after all." The elderly woman said.
"Thank you, Mrs Walker." Nya replied.
"Oh, sweetie, call me Edna. And this is Ed."
Kai soon came up to them. "You're not pressing charges against my sister?" He asked, putting his hands on his sister's shoulders.
"Of course not. Besides, she seems like a sweet girl. Might even be Jay's type."
"I'm not so sure about that." Nya said.
