Welcome to the 11th chapter of The Pokemon Entertainment League. Sorry that this has been on the shelf for a bit. But finally, we are at a point where we get more action based chapters. I hope you enjoy it.
March 10th (Season 1 Episode 11)
I have been in the PEL for less than a week and already my life is upended. Just the day before Roddy and I have become an unofficial group here even though we are the only two members of our so called "group". Today I woke up at 8:00 due to Roddy wanting to get to know other people more that doesn't involve being in a match. I think it's a good idea to know how people act outside of the battlefield.
I am downstairs in the lobby of our building, waiting for him in a seating area. Our plans are up in the air today. But today is an important day for the both of us. Next week's schedule for both of us comes out at 8:30 tonight. Friday is when everyone who doesn't have any battles on Saturday gets their next week's schedules. For us it shows what we have to deal with as new trainers that week.
"Hey Zane." I look up to see Roddy walking over to me. I stand up to greet him.
"Hey, what's up?" I ask.
"Well considering we have a plan with each other, I thought that maybe we could explore the surrounding area here. I was thinking we could look at the town as well."
Surrounding the PEL area is a small town called Worthstone. A lot of the trainers go into the town for relaxing purposes when they aren't doing anything on a particular day. The town has a good relationship with the PEL.
We leave the building and head east down a path that passes by many of the PEL buildings until it becomes more stores and houses and then we get into a town square of sorts. The town of Worthstone is all around us now. People are walking around heading into shops and going to different destinations. Roddy and I keep looking at the many different shops and attractions that are around. After a bit we come to a large building that is labeled "The Grounds"
"I wonder what this is." I say to Roddy looking at the big building. It looks like a warehouse; it has two wide windows and big double doors. The windows allow for anyone to look inside and outside and see the activity.
"I've heard of this place." Roddy says out loud. "It's a sort of coffee shop that a lot of the PEL members use as a meeting place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the PEL campus."
"It looks nice. Let's try it." I say as we both walk through the doorway. Inside is an extremely open area with tables and seating areas located all around. It looks like it could seat almost 200 people. Right now it looks like its filled to almost 75% capacity. The walls are made of wood and on the left side of the building, close to the door is a counter where you can order items. We walk up to the counter where someone is having their order go through.
"It looks like they specialize in different drinks, mainly tea and coffee, and different baked goods." I say as I look at the menu. We look at the menu for a bit before its our turn to order.
"I'll take an espresso con panna and a blueberry scone." He says as the waitress takes down our order and then he looks at me for my order.
"I'll have a small broken yunnan and a blueberry scone." She took my order as well.
"That will be $8.83." Roddy stepped towards with a card extended.
"I've got this one." He says as she swipes his card, hands it back and we walk down the counter to wait for our orders.
"Thank you for paying. It was nice of you." I say to Roddy. He smiles and shrugs.
"It was nothing. I don't mind spending money on places like this so it was worth it." He says as he's looking around. "I'm realizing that a lot of people in here look to come from the PEL. I knew it was popular but never this popular. Or this busy."
I had to agree with him in that. It isn't terribly noisy. You could have a conversation fine and be able to hear what the other person is saying but if you really listen hard you could hear just how many other conversations are happening at once. It is baffling.
"So you are a tea type of person?" he asks.
"Yup. Never really liked coffee that much and for some reason I enjoy tea a lot more. Its calming."
"Interesting. I drank coffee years ago and haven't stopped. Probably addicted but Its not out of control just yet." At that point our drinks and food arrived. We pick them up and find a six person table that is close by that is empty. I take a bite of my scone which is delicious. The tea is to hot for now.
"We should figure out what we are going to do for the future. Next week's schedules come out tonight and I think whatever we have will be what we need to focus on. Especially our opponents."
"I do agree but there are battle types that I don't even think we can train for at the moment. Things like a time attack battle, which is a 6 on 6 battle in a specific time limit. Who ever knocks out the most pokemon in the time limit is the winner. Or a specific type battle, where you can only use pokemon of a specific type. It could be only Fire types or only Flying types. Its hard to train for something you don't even know about. We could of course work on any weakness we have, but even then for all we know a weakness we might have benefit us more than we think. It is really confusing during this first week when we are basically doing nothing much hanging around." He is right. I wouldn't even know what a weakness I have. But before I can respond two guys push their way into the coffee shop.
They look like two giants, at least 6 feet tall and both look like they workout regularly. One is shaved on his head and face while the other has dark brown hair and a full beard. They move, with confidence, towards a table close to ours that a young man is sitting at. They both sit on either side of him and have large grins on their faces, while the one in between them looks frightened.
"Well Johnny, what do you have for us today?" The bald man asks but I don't think it was supposed to be a question as he took, what looked like a piece of bread off his plate and ate art of it. The other man took whatever he is drinking and took a large sip from it.
"Thanks for the meal but you can leave now." The bald man says as he practically shoves the man out of his chair, nearly knocking him to the ground. He recovers easily and walks away from them. He passes by our table and Roddy quickly motions for the man to sit down with us by pulling out a chair and motioning for him to sit down. He sits down and looks defeated.
"Are you ok?" I ask.
He looks up at me and gives a slight smile. "I'm ok, thank you."
"Why would they do that?" Roddy asks.
The man sighs but doesn't seem angry at the question. "A couple of weeks ago I lost a battle with one of them." He thinks for a minute. "The bald one, Mason Hernandez. I lost pretty badly; I wasn't prepared for the onslaught I was given. Since then him and his partner, Leonard Meyer have taken it upon themselves to make my life miserable."
"That's horrible. But sadly I can't say I'm surprised. I know of them." I say. The man looks surprised at my statement. "Sorry, I should mention that me and Roddy here have only been here for the last week."
"So, you know of them through their career. Well I've only been here for the last two months but its not going to well. I can't seem to get a stable leg to stand on. By the way I'm Samuel Crawford. Sam for short."
"Good to meet you." Roddy replies. Sam stands up from the table.
"I better get going now. Thanks for the talk guys. It was good to meet you and good luck out there." With goodbyes from us he leaves the shop.
We finish off our scones and drinks in silence and as we leave the shop is when I break the silence. "I wish there was a way that Sam could get those guys back."
"I wish there was a way we could help him out. But we are to new to do anything worthwhile." Roddy replies a little down.
"Who knows what will happen in the future. Plus, maybe we can help him more outside of the battlefield right now." I reply as we walk back to the campus.
Its nearly 8:30 at night and Roddy and I are hanging out in my apartment waiting for next week's schedules to come in for us. We are both extremely excited to know that we finally have a chance to prove ourselves next week and our wait period will soon be over. Before we know it our PDAs give a small ding to alert us something has come through. We barely can contain our energy as we open up our PDAs and look at our new schedules.
"I have three matches next week. A one on one, one pokemon each match on Sunday as well as a double battle, 2 pokemon each on Thursday and a tag team match on Friday." I say as I look at the basic details of my schedule.
"Cool. I have a one on one, one pokemon special match on Sunday, another one pokemon each special match on Monday, and a tag team match on Friday." Roddy replies. "Apparently my Sunday match I have to use my Muk and on my Monday match I have to use a normal type pokemon." He suddenly pauses in shock. "Zane, have you looked at your tag team match?"
"No, why?" I respond back to him, looking at him with worry.
"Because," he says showing me his PDA. "we are a tag team on Friday."
Thank you for reading. Finally we are starting to get into the real meat of the story. The next few chapters will be quite action based and have a lot of forward momentum now. I hope you enjoyed it and please review telling me what you thought about it. Also think about these questions in your review
1) What are your thoughts on Samuel Crawford?
2) What are your thoughts on Zane and Roddy's battles for the next week?
3) How do you think the pair will be as a tag team?
