The Owl Familia: The Family That Will Grow Forever:
Side-Story: Camila's Palisman
"Hmm, so magic doesn't always play a part in taming certain beasts here," Camila mused to herself, looking through a beast guidebook.
She turned a page and saw the difference between a tamed and wild slighterbeast. The only difference the book gave the human beast-keeper was size; a tamed slighterbeast was about five times smaller than a wild beast.
A loud roar followed by the sound of someone slamming into a wall caught Camila's attention and she looked up. A witch with teal hair rushed into the room and looked panicked.
Camila could see the protection spells on her co-worker's uniform were activated. She knew that was a bad sign.
"Mrs. Noceda!" the witch said quickly, " A Beast-keeper's fear-cat has suffered Beast Rebellion, and is going wild! You need to get out now-AHHHH!"
The witch was cut off when the rebelling beast pounced on him from behind. Camila felt some fear run through her, but her years as Vet had kicked in and kept her calm as she slowly got to her feet.
Camila began to recite what she knew of the creature in front of her. While fear-cats had sharp claws and teeth, their main fighting/hurting method was using some inherent magic to paralyze their prey with fear.
She also knew that the lion-sized magical beast used that same magic to sniff out fear. So, the trick to escaping a fear-cat was to remain calm and try to run when the cat wasn't paying attention.
Camila realized there were two problems with that plan; the cat was blocking the door and she couldn't leave her co-worker. She could see that her co-worker's protection spells were close to failing and that would leave the witch open.
But what could Camila do? She only has been on the Isles for a few short months and was still learning her daughter's method of spells.
A chirp suddenly sounded out and the human and beast looked up. Camila's eyes snapped open when she saw the Blue Jay that was brought just a short while ago hovering over the fear-cat. The bird looked like it was having trouble staying in the air, and the fear-cat saw that as an easy meal.
The cat pulled away from Camila's co-worker slightly and gave its full attention to the injured bird. The blue jay realized it was in danger, and tried to fly away. Whatever injury it had was making that hard, and the bird's wings were close to giving out on it.
Time seemed to slow to a crawl as the blue jay's wings suddenly gave out and began to fall right at the fear-cat. Camila's eyes snapped open and she was moving before she even realized what was happening.
"NO!" the human mother screamed as she grabbed a chair.
She ran up to the creature and slammed the chair into its side with all of her might. The cat groaned as it was thrown off the witch and its lower half collided with the door frame.
The human woman's co-worker, partly recovered, pushed himself into a kneeling position and quickly went to work. He created a spell circle and sent a sleeping spell at the beast. The human and witch held their breaths as they waited to see if the spell was effective. The two sighed with relief when the beast didn't move.
Camila quickly remembered the blue jay and dropped her chair. She hurried over to where the creature fell and gently picked up the bird.
"Are you okay?" she asked as she began to examine the bird.
She gasped when she saw the injury that was the cause of the bird's problems. There was a wound running across the back of the bird. The wound ended at the base of the wing joints. It was a wonder the bird was able to fly with such a wound.
Camila frowned as she continued to examine the wound. The wound looked weird; it didn't look like any open wound the human vet had ever seen before. If she didn't know any better, she would say the wound looked like something you see on cracked wood surfaces.
Camila gasped as she realized what she might be looking at. "Are you…a Palisman?" she asked in awe.
The blue jay answered her by turning into a witch's staff and falling into Camila's hands. She gawked at the staff, her staff, with a mix of awe and confusion.
"Why? I am not a witch?" was the only thing that came to the perplexed human.
Suddenly, Camila could feel something entering her mind. She heard a voice, loud and booming, but surprisingly warm and inviting.
"It matters not what you are or where you come from. Maddy has seen the courageous and caring soul you have and has chosen you. Now, Camila Noceda of the Owl Familia raise… AS THE SECOND HUMAN WITCH OF THE BOILING ISLES!"
Camila felt the voice leave the back of her mind, but couldn't help but obey. She held her new staff…her new lifelong partner with pride and smiled.
"Oww, I know Mija is going to love you," Camila gushed as Maddy turned back into her animal form and landed on the human's shoulder.
She did make a mental note to talk to either her witch sisters or Dell Clawthorne about treating her new friend.

You know, I think this is the longest I waited to give a magic type a negative trait, but no use in crying over spilled smilk. Beast Rebellion happens when a beast-keeper overcharges their beasts with magic. This results in the beast going into a frenzy and will attack anything that moves.
Now, with the story of how Camila meant Maddy out of the way, all that's left is the epilogue and we can close out this story. So, stay tuned!
