The day came to a close as the sun sank over the mountains. Amy and her friend walked down a wide street where a couple lamps glowed against the orange and red sky.

A newspaper page fluttered and tumbled in a gust of wind. It flew into Shadow's leg, and he took it. Sonic's latest victory, once again, made the front page. It earned the eye roll of the moody Hedgehog.

Amy peeked over his shoulder and said, "Oh wow, that was today. Well, that's Sonic for you."

"Indeed," Shadow muttered before releasing the paper back into the wind.

As they entered Amy's driveway, Amy grabbed her stuff and for the first time that day, gave a wide smile.

"Thanks, Shadow! You have no idea what this means to me."

Shadow blinked for a moment as he looked at her thinking, she must be one good actor. One moment, she is depressed and the next she is happy.

He nodded and replied, "Any time."

After she entered her house, she turned to say, "We should see each other more often." However, like a phantom, he was nowhere in sight. "Shadow? Where'd he go?"

She sighed and kicked the ground, thinking that's too bad. I guess he had to go.

Shadow, who was terrible with people skills had teleported back to his place when he saw that Amy got home safely. He stood by the window and closed his eyes thinking, what a peculiar girl. Of all people, I fail to understand her the most. Even Eggman and Sonic are easier to understand. They act stupid and will argue about nearly everything. But that girl...

I can't help but think about how depressed she was. That wasn't like her. What happened? She's so much like Maria. She's gentle with creatures and values everything. But at the same time, she's completely different. I can't seem to stop thinking of her.

Rouge entered the room and noticed the spaced out Hedgehog. She stepped next to him with her hands behind her back.

With a smile, she said, "So how'd it go?"

"What go?" The Bat's ears flattened in annoyance to which Shadow raised an eyebrow and asked, "What?"

His albino friend made fists as she stomped her foot. "Your time with Amy."

The reaction made the Hedgehog smirk and he turned to her with crossed arms. Rouge shot him a glare.

After chuckling, Shadow responded, "Not much happened."

Rouge fiddled with a necklace she wore and commented, "Uh huh. Right..."

"Do you have something else to do?"

"Hmm, not really. So are you going to elaborate on your day with Amy?"

Her friend frowned in annoyance and walked to the other end of the living room without giving an answer.

Rouge sighed and shook her head, saying, "Oh Shadow, what am I going to do with you?"

Shadow shouted from the hallway, "Nothing."

The Bat sighed once more.
