As promised Bucky showed up and walked her to work promising to come back to make sure she made it home. He walked around New York since he didn't have anything else to do or anywhere else to be before heading back to the museum about an hour before she was supposed to get off. He sat on one of the benches inside waving to people every so often, eventually, Tessa walked over looking tired but as soon as she saw Bucky waiting for her she smiled at him. "Hey. Ready to go?" he asked.

"More than ready." She said with a sigh. He stood up from the bench and followed her out the door. When they eventually got back to her apartment she kicked her shoes off and sat down on her couch. "Would you like something to eat? I can either make us a few sandwiches or I can order us something." She said.

"Oh, you don't have to. I'm not going to stay much longer." Bucky said as he looked around the apartment.

"Are you sure?" she asked and he could tell that she was just trying to find an excuse to keep him there.

"Well, maybe I'll have two sandwiches." He says before sitting down and waiting for her to make them some sandwiches. After a few minutes, Tessa walked over to the table with sandwiches for both of them. Bucky picked his up and smiled "Peanut butter and jelly?" he asked before taking a bite.

"I wasn't sure what kind of sandwich you'd want so I went with a classic." She said with a shrug.

"So you know quite a bit about me," he said as he finished up his last sandwich "but I don't know anything about you other than your parents know Tony and that he's your godfather." He said as he cleaned his plate off.

"Well what do you want to know?" she asked as she cleaned hers off as well.

"Well to start with what do your parents think of you hanging out with me?" he asked while crossing his arms. He watched as Tessa stopped drying off her plate before putting it away.

"I don't know. They um….they died when I was only twelve." She said quietly before heading into her living room. Bucky followed her into the living room.

"What happened to them?" he asked as they both sat down on the couch. Tessa closed her eyes and took a deep breath before letting it out.

"My uncle broke into our house because he was looking for something, I don't know what but according to him someone was offering money for something that my parents had at our house. He says that he thought that no one was home, but my parents had stayed home due to their friends canceling their plans for that night but I was at Renata's house for a sleepover. Her parents thought it was weird when they never came to get me the next day so they took me home and I found them in their bedroom. My uncle had shot my parents, my dad was curled around my mom and it took the coroner several minutes to separate the two of them. I went to live with my paternal grandparents because my mom's family refused to take me in since I wouldn't forgive my uncle for what he did." She said and he watched her rub her hands together. He reached over and gently placed his flesh hand over hers she looked up at him with a smile, they sat like that for a little bit before she looked up at the clock on her wall. "Oh my gosh. It's almost eleven. I have to get ready for bed soon." She said while standing up.

"I didn't realize it was that late either. I better let you get some sleep." He said as we walked out of the apartment. "Thanks for the sandwiches. Now lock your door." He said with a serious look on his face.

"Uh yeah, no problem." He watched her shut the door standing there for a few seconds until he heard the click of the lock on the door handle and then the louder click of the deadbolt followed by the sound of her sliding lock. As soon as he was sure that she was safely in her apartment he turned walked down the steps before walking out of the building and heading home.

Over the next several weeks either Bucky takes her to and from work stopping at her place to get something to eat or if it's a Wednesday or if he has to go to his therapy session he walks her to work and Happy picks her up. She didn't want to hurt Happy's feelings but she liked it when Bucky walked her home better. About a month and a half into the arrangement instead of taking her home Bucky led her to a nearby restaurant. "I figured that it was finally my turn to feed you since you're always doing it for me." He said as he walked up to the hostess, she took them back to a table and handed them menus before walking away. "So I've been meaning to ask. Who's the guy in that old black and white photo you have sitting on your tv stand?" he asked.

"Oh, that's my great-grandfather Leon Boisclair. He served in the Army during World War 2 and he was wounded in battle."

"What happened?"

"From the stories I was told his unit got attacked and a piece of shrapnel hit him in the leg. It destroyed the leg and the next thing he knew he was on the ground trying to crawl to his gun when a German soldier came out of nowhere and pointed a gun right at his head. He was so sure that he was going to die right then and there, and then a sniper saved him. Hit the German right in the chest and saved him I mean there wasn't anything they could do for his leg because it had been destroyed but he still lived to meet my great-grandmother and have several children with her and watch them grow up and have children of their own before he passed away." She said with a smile.

"How many kids did he have?"

"Four two boys and two girls. They ended up having three kids of their own who other than my dad had three kids of their own. None of who would be alive if it wasn't for the sniper." She said as she scanned the menu one last time.

About an hour later they had finished their meal and Bucky had decided to get some dessert to take home for the both of them. By the time they left it was dark out and Tessa walked a little closer to Bucky, they were laughing at some joke Bucky had just made and enjoying themselves when they realized that they had almost passed her apartment building. "We're back already?" she asked looking up at her apartment in shock.

"Yeah, I guess we are." He said before they walked into the building. She walked up the steps first looking back at him with a smile on her face and he couldn't help but smile back at her. When they got to her door she hesitated to unlock it, he wasn't going to come in and spend more time with her tonight so she wanted to drag this out as long as she could.

"Uh, thanks for taking me out. Either you wanted a change of pace as well or you're trying to nicely tell me that you don't like my cooking." She said with a grin.

"No! No, no, no. I love your cooking. Especially that steak you did the other day. I just wanted to pay you back." He said a slight blush on his cheeks.

"Oh. Well, at least I know that I've satisfied your taste buds." She said before unlocking her door. She opened it and let out a sigh before turning to him one last time "I'll see you later Bucky." She said before she stood on her tiptoes and kissed his cheek. Bucky touched his cheek in shock, the sound of her giggle before she locked her door behind her barely registered in his brain. He stared at the door for a few seconds before he remembered where he was at and turned and walked back down the steps and back to his apartment.
