A small blonde child sat on a bed, awkwardly clutching a sword sheathed in its home. Ivory in color it contrasted against the soot and grime-covered boy, his small body giving small shakes every now and again.

Tears streaked down his face as he clenched the sword in a fit of sobs, holding it as if it was a lifeline. "Jaune." Called out a voice, getting his attention as he looked at a tall man with dark black hair and piercing red eyes. Although his eyes softened as Jaune looked up at him.

"We'll be bunking out here for a day or two all right? I talked to the innkeeper and she had some spare clothes so you could freshen up" he said as he placed a set of folded up clothes on the bed. "You can hop in the shower if you'd like, I'm going to go outside to make a call real quick" sighed the man.

Jaune nodded as he set down the sword with shaky hands, taking the clothes and heading over to the bathroom. He closed the door behind him and set the water temperature too high, waiting for the water to steam before he got in. Using the brick of soap Jaune cleaned himself to the best of his abilities, tears hidden by the fall of water.

Getting out and drying himself off with a towel Jaune donned the fresh clothes and tried his best to fold his dirty clothes, small fingers struggling to imitate what he'd seen his mother once do.

Coming out of the bathroom he saw that Qrow, the man he had just talked to and his savior, was still outside making his call. Or at least that's what Jaune assumed he was doing.

He looked out the window onto the street below, the surrounding town humming with a low buzz as the night rolled around. It was bigger than Ansel, the thought ripping a sob from his chest as his eyes began to swell with tears.

Or it was bigger than what Ansel used to be.

Jaune bolted to grasp the sword on the bed, clutching it once again as his life depended on it. Cries wracked his small body as he grieved for what he had lost, slowly drifting away into the lulling embrace of sleep.

Outside the door paced Qrow, scroll in hand as he dialed a number, and the name "Ozpin" popped up on the screen.

"Hello Qrow." Answered Ozpin "What happened."

"Ansel fell."

A thick silence filled the empty hallway as the words left Qrow's mouth.

"Any survivors?" Asked Ozpin, his voice taking on a more solemn tone

"Only one, I have Jaune Arc in my possession."

"Does this mean that all his sisters have passed away as well?"

Qrow's only response was silence.

A shuffling of papers could be heard over the line as Qrow sighed and gathered the little strength he had left "The kid can't be left at some orphanage Oz, that'll be the first place they look" said Qrow.

"I know, that's why you're going to bring him to Beacon." Stated Ozpin

Qrow froze "Beacon?"

"Can you think of a safer place?"

A grim chuckle escaped his lips as the red-eyed man nodded "Yeah we'll be there before the weeks over then, I'll call you back later to keep you updated"

"I would expect nothing less."

With that the call ended Qrow sighed and peaked into the room, Jaune's small body having the steady rise and fall of a sleeping child. Entering without a sound Qrow unholstered his weapon onto the stand beside the second bed across from the one currently occupied.

Closing his eyes and steading his breath in an almost robotic way he too fell asleep, joining Jaune in sleep.

A steady rhythm awoke Jaune, lifting his head from the seat he was laid down on to look at Qrow from across the booth they were both currently in. His little head shook his sleepiness away as he frantically looked for something.

"Here ya go kid." Qrow said to get Jaune's attention, holding out the sword he was desperately looking for "Didn't want you getting hurt while you rested."

"I thought you said we'd be at the other place for two days?" Asked Jaune with a puzzled look and a yawn.

"We were there for two days, you just slept through it all." Qrow said, "You needed the rest." He said to quell the bit of panic that flashed on the kid's face. "We're currently on our way to Vale so you can meet with someone who can help you okay? It'll be a while till we get there so you can go back to sleep if you want"

Jaune shook his head as he shifted his weight to hug the sword once more, Crocea Mors was its name. Gazing out of the window the scenic view of boundless fields filled with tall grass for miles to come filled the small boy with wonder, he'd never traveled far from Ansel and never on a train.

Qrow gave a small smile at Jaune pressed up against the window. Scroll in hand he quickly sent out a message to Ozpin, alerting him that they would arrive at Vale soon.

Minutes turned to hours as they sat in silence, the window being opened early on when Jaune wanted to stick his head out into the wind, and who was Qrow to deny him of course. The blonde child rested his head on the open window feeling the wind run through his face and hair. As quiet as he normally was, but more relaxed as he let the steady thrum and vibrations of the locomotive relax him.

Later on in the wait, a small but distinct rumbling could be heard from Jaune. Blushing he held his stomach as he looked to Qrow in embarrassment.

Qrow gave a quick smile and sat up "You haven't eaten in a while, what do you want me to get for you?" He asked warmly.

Stuttering out the words Jaune replied, "S-s-and-dwich please!" He said in a timid manner.

Nodding Qrow exited the booth and disappeared from view, leaving Jaune all alone with the subtle sounds of motion to accompany him. Looking out the window he could notice that the area was slowly becoming more populated, even if the only real change were the sights of faraway settlements and their lights.

Eventually, his guardian returned with the promised meal, a foil-wrapped chicken sandwich that smelled delicious to a very small and half-starved child. 'Damn, when was the last time I fed the kid?' Qrow thought, not accustomed to having a tagalong that couldn't take care of themselves on his journey. He took a small breath in as Jaune ate away at his lunch and positively devoured it 'Treat him how you would treat Yang and Ruby' and nodded to his argument.

Once finished with the foil and trash Jaune threw it away accordingly and went back to watching the scenery unfold. They arrived at a stop that wasn't their own, seeing passengers leave and come as they started up the engines to continue their journey to Vale.

Time passed and noon arrived while they were still on the train, speeding through the wilderness towards their destination. Jaune felt himself become bored after all this time, even his small mind had a limit to how much he could stare awestruck at the trees and grass. He turned and faced Qrow with an inquisitive face.

"Where are we going?" He asked innocently

"Going to Vale kid, you're going to meet Headmaster Ozpin himself." Qrow responded, "We'll get you situated so don't you worry your little head."

"Is Ozpin a huntsman like you?"

"Yep," Qrow said, popping the P. "Trained me himself, he's one of the most badass huntsmen there is."

Jaune had stars in his eyes as the older man said that. "Wow! I bet he's the best, do you think he can beat my dad?" He asked before freezing and tightening his grip on Crocea Mors. His eyes prickled with small tears.

A silence filled the cabin before Qrow decided to speak up. "Nah." he said "Your dad was one of the only people I think could beat Ozpin, next to me of course" he boasted. Jaune relaxed slightly at Qrow's confirmation.

"Yeah… Dad was the best." He mumbled softly before hugging Crocea Mors tightly, his small eyes watering slightly.

Eventually, they got to their final stop, the great walled city of Vale. Leaving amongst the bustling crowds pushed Jaune and Qrow together, instinctively Jaune latched onto Qrow's hand as they walked forward. If Qrow noticed the sudden hand grabbing he didn't say anything, especially since Jaune was once again too distracted being awestruck at the sights.

Slowly making their way to the bullhead dock they passed through quite a few sights for the small child to ogle at, from the city square to all the food stalls that enticed Jaune with their wondrous smells. Eventually, they arrived at the bullhead dock, since Qrow couldn't take his usual route to Ozpin since he had his little companion he flashed some identification and they were on their way once again, this time through the air.

Surprising everyone, Jaune seemed to have a very bad case of motion sickness when it came to flying transportation. The small child spent most of the flight being picked up by Qrow tipped over in a trashcan in a very awkward position, well it was awkward for Qrow since Jaune would have probably been fairly comfortable being held except for the fact that he was currently vacating his stomach into the bin.

Qrow rubbed small circles on Jaune's back once he was finished. "Don't worry kiddo motion sickness is more common than you think, just take deep breaths, buddy."

Jaune gave a small moan as he held his stomach through the flight, running for the doors the second they arrived at Beacon. Qrow couldn't help but give a small chuckle as Jaune essentially threw himself onto the ground which seemed to be his new resting place.

A muffled "Flying sucks!" could be heard from Jaune as he laid down on some grass.

As the minutes passed and Jaune got over his experience of motion sickness Qrow took his hand and led him towards Beacon.

Passing a large statue of two hunters standing triumphantly over the fallen bodies of Grimm Qrow stopped Jaune in front of the statue's plaque.

"Hey Jaune, read the name of the huntsman." He told Jaune, causing him to stand up on his tippy toes to read what it said.

Inscribed on the plaque was

In Honor of

Aurelius Arc

Jaune's eyes widened as he read it, looking over to Qrow in shock. "He has my name!" He exclaimed in surprise.

"Yep," Qrow said, popping the P again "Your family has a lot of heroes in it."

Pulling Jaune away from the statue Qrow led him to the building itself, opening the doors with a scanned keycard and shepherding the small child through the vast corridors and silent hallways.

"How come there aren't any students?" Jaune asked

"They're on break right now, you'll see a few here and there if they decided to stay but most went home to their families," Qrow said nonchalantly, continuing their path until they finally reached the elevator that would lead them to Ozpin.

Taking out his scroll one last time Qrow messaged Oz that they were here and that he should probably get ready for talking with a very small distraught child.

Getting on said elevator they ascended upward to their destination. The silence between Jaune and Qrow was interrupted solely by a steady beeping coming from the elevator. Finally, there was a final tone and the doors opened revealing a large office.

The pair walked forward, Qrow leading the way clasping one of Jaune's hands. Jaune trailed behind hesitantly, his other hand grasping Crocea Mors awkwardly to his chest.

A bespectacled and aging man sat behind an imposing clockwork desk, smiling as the duo came in he rose from his seat and approached the two.

"Qrow." He nodded.

"Ozpin," Qrow said, returning the gesture

Kneeling in front of Jaune Ozpin gave a warm smile as he extended his hand to shake the small boy's hand. Letting go of Qrow's hand Jaune shook Ozpin's hand, albeit in a timid way.

"Hello Jaune, my name is Ozpin. I'm the headmaster of Beacon and I was a teacher and friend to your family." The gray-haired man said in a gentle tone. "Normally this wouldn't happen, but your situation demands a bit of interference."

Jaune tilted his head quizzically "What do you mean?" He asked

"There's a group of very bad people trying to hurt you because of your name, they're the ones that destroyed your home." He answered in a solemn voice "I want to make sure you stay safe from them, and if you wish so you can stay here with us or we can find another way to keep you safe.'

With eyes as wide as dinner plates Jaune listened to Ozpin before looking up at Qrow who nodded to confirm what the headmaster was saying.

"So I can stay here at Beacon?" He asked.

Ozpin nodded, "It's the best way to keep you safe, if you so desire we can also train you to be a huntsman. Many children unlock their aura around your age as well.'

Qrow gave a small cough to catch Ozpin's attention, "Kids already got their aura unlocked."

Jaune nodded and hugged Crocea Mors, in a whisper he answered "Dad tried to get us to safety, but the Grimm attacked from the side and by the time Dad managed to kill them all it was too late."

Pulling his shirt down he showed the pink and lifted flesh of a large bite mark on his shoulder. "The last thing he did was kill the Grimm and then he gave me something, it glowed and stopped the bleeding."

A blink later Ozpin pulled the small boy into a large hug, "I'm sorry my boy, I'm so sorry you had to go through this."

This was all it took for Jaune to break. Tears streamed down his face as he wailed and sobbed against Ozpin's shoulder and desperately clutched onto him, dropping Crocea Mors in the process he cried and cried and cried into the headmaster's arms.

Qrow's face hardened as he looked away from the scene, he couldn't help but think what if Yang or Ruby were put in this situation. What if they were the sole survivors of an attack, he didn't even know what he would do if something like this happened to them.

Eventually, Jaune settled down enough for Ozpin to pick him up, without a word he carried both the child and Crocea Mors to the elevator.

"I'll be showing Jaune his room." Leaving Qrow alone in the office with his flask. Brothers know he needs his flask now, after witnessing what had just happened a small buzz would be welcome.

Around half an hour passed before Qrow heard a familiar ding, he turned his head to see Ozpin walk out accompanied by a blonde-haired woman with glasses.

"How you've been Glynda?" He said in a hoarse voice.

Glynda herself looked as prim and proper as always, being one of the youngest teachers to ever grace the halls of Beacon Academy she had to maintain a very professional image. However her usually stern face now contained a rather morose expression.

Clearing his throat Ozpin began to speak "I've put our little knight to bed for the evening."

"He caught me up on everything I need to know as well," Glynda stated towards Qrow.

The trio stood in silence for a while, each thinking about what Jaune implied for the future. Finally, it was Qrow that broke said silence "What are you going to do about the kid?"

"We'll raise him here, Beacon was built with the capabilities to host the teachers and their families if need be," Ozpin responded.

"Thank the Brothers we are on break" Glynda sighed, posture falling slightly at the realization that they had a week before school got back into session.

"We'll continue as always, I'll take to finding some kind of nanny for Jaune," said Ozpin.

"Actually sir I'd be glad to take on that role" Glynda cut in. "Looking after him would be the least I could do,"

Ozpin nodded and said, "The others and I will also be helping keep him educated and healthy, I'm sure you have no objection to that."

"Of course, I'm sure Bart and Port will be ecstatic about having Jaune around."

Qrow chimed in after a while "If y'all want I can take him to visit Patch if you ever need a break, Ruby, and Yang could use a playmate."

"I believe that has that matter settled," Ozpin said "Now let's move on to more serious matters. Qrow give me the report of what exactly happened in Ansel."

The red-eyed man gave a small sigh before going into his explanation, spending the next two hours detailing what had happened.

By the end of the report Glynda and Ozpin were caught up on what exactly had occurred, Ansel had been set upon in the dead of night by hordes of Grimm. The local militia had tried their best being led by Nicholas Arc himself, they sent out a message for help but it was too late. The main town itself was lost to the Grimm and most of the militia died with the town, Nicholas had retreated to try to lead his family to safety but the Grimm had tracked them down as well.

From then on it was as Jaune had said. Grimm attacked and overwhelmed Nicholas before he could save the rest of his family, and with his dying breath, he had unlocked Jaune's aura in the hopes to save him from bleeding out alongside him.

Qrow found him by the beacon on Nicholas' phone and it had been a miracle that no Grimm found him before he did.

Both Ozpin and Glynda looked solemn after hearing what had happened, they knew Salem had been quiet for a while which never meant anything good. But to wipe out a whole town was near unprecedented, then again this was the queen of the Grimm they were talking about.

They were still reeling at what had happened to Summer, even after all these years. So for them to be hit by the loss of one of Remnants most important families and their hometown certainly hurt.

Qrow finished off by saying "Salem must have not liked the Arcs being unaccounted for, guess she decided to take them out of the game permanently," he said as he rubbed the back of his neck.

"You've done well Qrow, that'll be all for today so go get some rest." Ozpin said before turning to Glynda, "Same goes for you."

They both nodded and left, leaving Ozpin alone to plan their next step.

Morning came as it always did. The sun rose and woke all those with a reasonable sleep schedule, meaning most students didn't wake until much later.

Beacon academy also housed a new guest, one Jaune Arc was awoken by a series of knocks on the door and a woman's voice going "I'm coming in!"

The half-asleep boy raised his head groggily from his pillows to see who was coming in, his small brain seeing the blonde silhouette of a woman waking him up and immediately going "Mom!"

In a flurry of movement, Jaune launched himself at the silhouette, head buried into her stomach and hugging her tightly

"Mom you're okay! I had the worst dream ever! Everyone was hurt and gone and Dad got hurt too and all the Grimm attacked and everything was the worst!" He mumbled to his "Mom"

Glynda froze at what had just happened, lost for words she placed a hand on his head and cleared her throat gently.

"I'm sorry Jaune, but I'm not your mom." She said in a low voice.

Jaune looked up and reeled backward, letting go from the hug with a large blush on his face. "I'm sorry," he said in a small voice

"It's all right," Glynda said with a sad smile "I just wanted to tell you that breakfast is ready if you want it, you also have a toothbrush and fresh towels in the bathroom over there if you want to use it." She gestured over to the other door inside his new room which he now knew was the bathroom.

"I'll be waiting in the living room once you're ready," she said, leaving him to examine his room. Jaune stood at the foot of the bed facing the bathroom and looked around to relocate himself and get a sense of his surroundings. The room was fairly basic with tan walls and carpet, one bed sat in the middle with a door to his left leaving outward.

The two bookshelves next to the windows let plenty of light in as he looked around, eventually satisfied he went and got ready. Brushing his teeth, showering, and placing his dirty clothes in a hamper before going out to meet the lady he had just talked to.

Walking out of the room Glynda turned from the couch and looked at Jaune, in her head she thought he looked positively adorable. He was wearing clothes that he had changed out of in the inn, a white t-shirt alongside a pair of navy blue shorts topped off with a small pair of tennis shoes.

Glynda stood up and walked to the door, motioning Jaune to do the same. Jaune followed accordingly and stood next to her.

"Hello Jaune," she said "I'm Glynda Goodwitch, a teacher here at Beacon."

"H-Hi" he replied, still embarrassed at what he'd done a few minutes ago.

Leading the way Glynda opened the front door to the outside hallway, closing the door behind her and locking it with the flash of a keycard the two went on their way down the hallway. After a short walk, they arrived at the teacher's lounge, although here in Beacon it was more of a living area for the teachers since it had a full-blown kitchen area and a separate living room with a large couch and a coffee table stacked with papers in front of it.

The kitchen itself was currently in use as the clatter of pots and pans filled the air. Seconds, after they entered the head of an aged man with bushy brows and an even bushier mustache, popped out to see who had come in.

"Oho well look whom we have here!" He said as he fully exited the kitchen and approached Jaune. "Hello there! You must be the brave and wondrous Jaune! My name is Professor Peter Port, I'm at your services young man." He said as he shook Jaune's hand vigorously.

"Now you just wait there and I'll have breakfast ready faster than you can say 'Deadly Deathstalkers'!" Port stated before heading back into the kitchen.

Jaune couldn't help but give a small laugh at the boisterous old man, he talked funny.

Glynda then led him to the couch and with a flick of her wrist, the papers glowed with purple energy and floated to an unoccupied counter.

She took a small bit of joy at the amazement that filled Jaune's eyes at her semblance, her train of thought was then interrupted by Port bellowing that the food was ready.

Barreling out of the kitchen, balancing a large number of plates all in his arms and head was Port. Giving a theatric twirl and spin he set down the food on the table with a surprising amount of grace for a man his age and size.

Served on the table were a number of breakfast dishes, scrambled eggs, bacon, biscuits, fruit, waffles, and pancakes all in large quantities. Jaune's stomach gave a small grumble at how good the food smelled, remembered that he hadn't eaten anything last night.

Mimicking both Glynda and Port he served himself a healthy portion of eggs, bacon, and waffles. Digging into the food he ate everything with gusto, serving himself a bit more once he had finished up his plate.

As they were eating three other people entered the lounge, the three being Ozpin, a tall man with thick glasses and green hair, and a white-haired woman with a foxtail.

The green-haired man went straight to the kitchen and emerged seconds later with three pots of steaming hot coffee in his hands, placing one on the table and then sitting down nursing the other two he turned to Jaune and waved hello.

"Hello there, I'm Doctor Oobleck and Beacon's resident history teacher," he said at blazing fast speed, shaking Jaune's hand at an even faster pace before downing the two coffee pots in a blink of an eye.

"Don't scare the little baby" said the white-haired fox lady, who gave a small smile before also extending her hand, " I'm Tsune, nurse of Beacon."

Jaune gave a small blush at the 'baby' remark but shook her hand as well.

Ozpin was the last to sit down and eat, taking his time to enjoy it all alongside a nice cup of coffee. The adults talked amongst themselves, Port talked to Oobleck about the curriculum they had coming up and Tsune complained about Glynda not sending enough students her way.

Jaune learned that the teacher that sent the most students to the nurse was actually Oobleck, but that was due to them being first-year students wanting to get out of his insanely fast lectures. Said students quickly learned to do their best to not go to the nurse's office, Tsune had a habit of using plenty of needles to check what was wrong with her patients.

Coming in second place was Port for much the same reason as Oobleck, except that he's actually had to send a few students to the nurse's office due to Grimm-related injuries.

Third place went to Ms. Goodwitch as Port and the others called her. While she was extremely adept at stopping fights before serious injury happened she wasn't completely infallible, much to her chagrin.

As the chatter continued the teachers could notice Jaune had relaxed, giggling alongside Port and as they retold stories about Beacon the public wouldn't know. Even Ms. Goodwitch got into it as she told of her time as a student, when Qrow, a man everyone at the table knew, went to school in a skirt and gave many male students a revelation.

Seeing as it was break the teachers stayed in the lounge longer than they would normally, and they certainly enjoyed their free time alongside their new guest. Port in specific spent a good time spouting outlandish stories to a wide-eyed Jaune.

Eventually, the group dispersed one by one and Glynda led Jaune on a tour of the facility, she showed him the cafeteria, the courtyard, the gardens, the library, and their librarian Jace. Seeing Jaune's shock at the number of books they had the two decided to spend a few hours reading.

Jaune was particularly attracted to the many comic books they had, sitting down in a beanbag chair with a thick stat of X-Ray and Vav comic books at his side.

Glynda on the other hand was sitting at a table with a view of Jaune with 'How to Parent for Dummies' in her hands.

As the two read time passed quickly, by the time lunch rolled around they checked out some comic books for Jaune to read, and while his back was turned Glynda checked out 'How to Parent for Dummies' which elicited a raised eyebrow from Jace the librarian. A small glare from Glynda ended that thought process for the librarian as he decided he valued his life more than he did drama.

Lunch was served in the cafeteria, Glynda used the kitchen to make some sandwiches for the two. The students that had stayed in Beacon for the break quickly caught wind of their new cute guest and Jaune gained a small crowd of students crooning over how cute he was, the female students gave him pats and squealed at his cute little blush while the male students clamored to see if he wanted to play some ball or hang out with them.

At that last request all the students looked with pleading eyes for Glynda's permission, even Jaune joined in with his big puppy eyes. The headmistress gave one look at Jaune and caved in, allowing them to go and play, with supervision of course.

She used her scroll to tell the staff what was going on so she could go shopping for supplies. The staff took turns watching over the crowd of students that showed Jaune all the activities they had in Beacon.

Somehow it quickly devolved to the students showing off their weapons and abilities to the small boy, and while any other teacher might have quelled such behavior Professor Port say nothing wrong with it and refereed a small tournament between students to entertain the small boy.

Ms. Goodwitch had gone to the city to get new clothes and supplies for Jaune's room, so when she came back to most of their student population passed out in exhaustion in the pavilion she sighed and decided to say nothing. Instead opting to let them have their fun while she set up the room, from curtains to clothes to cereal Jaune's apartment looked more suitable to house a child.

Once everyone saw that it was darkening they decided to take their fun inside, hosting an impromptu party in Jaune's honor. Even the teachers got in on it, by the time Jaune got all tuckered out and drowsy Professor Port and Ozpin were in a competition of beanbag toss.

Glynda, taking one look at a half-asleep Jaune, decided that bedtime had arrived and carried him to his room. Tucking him in alongside his sword, she hadn't even noticed that he even had it one him at the time. He must have picked it up some time while she was gone she decided.

Turning off the lights she left the newly furnished room and its owner, leaving for her room to do some paperwork that had piled up before going to bed herself.

The next few days were a blur for young Jaune, spending his time with the students and teachers before break ended. From hanging out in the library to cooking with Professor Port there wasn't a second that Jaune wasn't entertained in some way or another.

This was intentional of course, Oobleck and Glynda had made sure the students knew what had occurred to the small child in question. Naturally, the students wanted to pitch in as best they could, helping finish up Jaune's room and entertaining them when they could.

But eventually, the break ended and Jaune was once again in front of Ozpin's clockwork desk. This time accompanied by Ms. Goodwitch rather than Qrow, he sat in his chair kicking his feet with nervous energy, waiting for the headmaster to arrive.

Ms. Goodwitch gave him a reassuring smile alongside a pat on the head as they waited. Soon after the familiar ding of the elevator rang out, signaling Ozpin's entrance. The headmaster entered with a few folders and papers in hand, he gave a small nod and wave to Jaune before taking his seat in front of him and Goodwitch.

"Hello Jaune, how have you been lately?" He asked

Jaune gave a big smile "I've been great! I've had loads of fun!"

Ozpin chuckled "That's marvelous, now do you know why I called you up here?" He asked as he straightened out the papers on his desk.

"Not really," Jaune responded.

"That's alright I can catch you up to speed," Ozpin said "I wanted to ask you where you would like to go to school? If you want we can put you in a local school in Vale, or if you so desire, we can begin your training to become a huntsman right here in Beacon."

Immediately Jaune answered "Here! I want to train here!"

Glynda gave a small laugh at his enthusiasm, seeing as Jaune had launched himself forward at was half on Ozpin's desk.

I want to be a huntsman!" He exclaimed "Being here is the best and I want to train to be the best huntsman ever in existence!"

Hiding his smile in his coffee mug Ozpin chuckled again due to Jaune's enthusiasm, "Alright settle down then, we can set aside session for you to both be tutored in things regular children would receive, alongside the training the staff and I can give you." He said

Jaune nodded vigorously with his hands slammed down on the table and teetering with his knees on the chair leaning forward, face beaming at Ozpin's confirmation.

"Calm down he still has other things to say," scolded with no real heat in her voice.

"Thank you Glynda, now for the rest." Ozpin said, placing the papers in his hand on the table for the two to see, "It's just minor paperwork that I need your help to fill out."

The three in the office spent the next few minutes filling out paperwork, things like Jaune's name, date of birth, where he was born, whether he was a Faunus or not and so forth.

When Jaune asked the two adults present what he was filling out Ozpin explained that the papers would allow Jaune to live in Beacon as his ward, adoption in a sense.

They finished quickly with Jaune vibrating in his seat "So when do I get to train?" He asked in excitement.

Ozpin looked down at his watch, "In exactly one hour," He stated "Go run to your room and get Crocea Mors, we'll be training in one of the sparring rooms that I'm sure you've already seen."

Ms. Goodwitch and Ozpin both smiled as Jaune's already wide eyes widened even more before he sprinted to the elevator and mashed the buttons with fury.

"How about you take the rest of the day off Glynda?" Ozpin said as they both walked to catch up with Jaune in the elevator "You've done wonderfully these past few days so I'll take over for the rest of today."

Glynda waved Ozpin off "He's a dear and never causes any trouble, but if you insist I have a book I need to finish," she said.

The trio descended the elevator, Glynda heading to her room while Ozpin walked behind Jaune sprinting to his room.

As fast as his little feet could carry him Jaune opened the door and rushed inside to grab his sword. Ozpin waited outside before his companion sped outside to meet him, they then walked to one of the empty sparing rooms. The large room itself was empty except for the ring inside and a console that controlled it.

"Now then," Ozpin said while folding his coat neatly and placing it on the floor "We'll start with stretching."

Jaune nodded before Ozpin showed him the various stretches that loosened his muscles and started up his blood-flow. Then came the cardio, which Jaune was excited to do until he learned it was just running. After a few laps around the room Jaune's chest heaved as he ran, looking to Ozpin for the signal to stop. The signal came until much later, which Jaune appreciated greatly.

The training continued as Ozpin joined his student through calisthenics, teaching him how to squat, do pushups and sit-ups correctly. After having Jaune do several sets of exercises the two stood face to face in the ring, weapons in hand

"Do you know why I'm having you do these exercises?" Ozpin asked.

"Because I gotta be strong!" Jaune exclaimed, still mostly out of breath.

"Exactly, you need to build yourself up before you face down any Grimm," the grey haired man said "Now let's begin." Ozpin then raised his cane in a fencers position.

"Shield up."

Jaune shifted his shield.

"Sword pointed at me."

Jaune positioned his sword.

"Feet shoulders-length apart."

Jaune moved his feet.

"Good, now block."

Ozpin struck forward in a thrust. Leaving almost no time for Jaune to shift his shield so that he could block it, which he managed to do. The strike sent Jaune tumbling backwards, landing on his behind.

"Put your weight behind your shield." Ozpin said as he waited for Jaune to dust himself off.

Jaune got back into position.

"Block."

This time the cane flew in an arc, forcing Jaune to turtle up and take the hit.

"Good, don't forget your feet."

Jaune looked down to see that his feet had shifted while he was blocking and fixed them accordingly.

"Block."

A thrust.

Cane connected with shield as Jaune remained steadfast, only taking a single step backwards compared to his stumble beforehand.

"Block."

A swing.

Crocea Mors shield flew from Jaune's grasp as he blocked.

"Don't overextend, be prepared for the blow but don't rush to meet it."

Panting Jaune jogged over to pick up his shield and dust it off, getting back into position quickly.

"Block."

Another swing, coming at an angle from above this time. Jaune lifted his shield and braced himself as he felt the vibrations of the strike and the clang of metal against metal.

"Block."

Ozpin thrust faster than Jaune was used too, but managed to block the attack nonetheless. Setting himself up faster as to not be caught by surprise Jaune clenched his teeth in determination, a shaky smile on his lips due to the endorphins and the fact that he was getting trained.

"Block."

A swing, coming from directly above. It was met by shield.

This continued for awhile, swings and thrusts being met by blocks of varying levels of success. Eventually Jaune got hit one two many times and ended up laying on the ground spread-eagle and exhausted.

"You did good my little knight, we'll call it a day after I teach you one last thing." Ozpin said, sitting cross legged on the ground and signaling for Jaune to do the same.

Jaune did so and sat across from Ozpin who extended his hand for him to take. Doing so Ozpin smiled and nodded before speaking.

"Now close your eyes, take deep breaths and focus on your body."

The small boy followed the instructions, taking deep breaths and feeling his sore body.

"Now try to find your aura and call it to the surface of your skin. Focus on the energy flowing through your body and let it flow upwards."

Jaune spent a few seconds trying to find his aura before feeling a slight hum near his chest, calling it forward to his skin. He felt that hum of energy stretch and poor outwards at a slow pace, Jaune coaxed the energy forward to fill his limbs, to the top of his head to the tip of his toes.

Ozpin gave a small smile at the sight before him, Jaune seemed to glow in a golden light as his aura made itself known and covered him in a coat of light. It seemed the boy was a natural at aura control, seeing as he called it out so easily.

Slowly pain and sores faded away as Jaune felt his aura spill outwards and fill his body, carrying away his discomfort in tides of energy. By the time he opened his eyes any bruises that had blossomed faded away before he knew it.

"Good job my boy, now let's get cleaned up" Ozpin stated.

Taking one look at his teachers pristine condition and his own filthy body Jaune gave a sigh, marching alongside Ozpin as they left the training hall for the day.
