Chapter One: How It All Started

*The Past*

Violet sat down on the bench of her brand new elementary school. She and her family had just moved into another new home just two weeks ago in Todayland. It was in the middle of the school semester that her family have picked the time to move. And unfortunately for poor Violet who is 10 years old at the time, is having a difficult time both adjusting to her new environment and making new friends. Of course like any other school, in nature, kids aren't really known to be kind to new kids. Especially when they're too busy having fun with their own friends to even care or bother to give a time of day to even try to make an effort to talk to Violet. Heck, or at least offer her to play a game of basketball with them.

"The New Girl", Violet said with bitterness in her voice.

Violet has always hated that title for two reasons. One is because it is true beyond comprehension. And two, she knows full well that there is no other title since she was in fact, new. But, she hated those recent titles that everybody gives her. Such as Geek, Shy girl, "The Loner" or "Queen of Loserville." What hurts Violet the most was today in the girl's bathroom after lunch where she was on the toilet peeing and have overheard the other girls talking about her when washing their hands. Violet heard them say such mean things that caused them to laugh at her when she told them at the lunch table, saying that she had planned on going to Princeton University on a full-ride scholarship after walking the stage at her high school graduation. The reason behind it was she did not want to spend her day making the teacher's lives "Miserable", so that way she didn't want to end up being nothing more than a screwup when she grows up. The endless laughter from the girls itself was even worst when hearing it echo in Violet's head.

"I don't understand. What is so wrong with trying to better myself by going to Princeton and getting a four-year degree in writing, and wanting to become a full-fledged author?.", Violet asked herself in a sad tone.

The next thing that caught Violet's attention was seeing a few other girls on the grassy area playing house, and then saw a few other boys both playing and pretending to be superheroes. The last part just put a small smile on her face. In truth, Violet herself is indeed an actual superhero with a legit superpower. Well, technically she is not an official superhero due to the worldwide law that forbids all superheroes to use their powers or to reveal their powers. In other words, it means that Violet herself could not show her powers of invisibility or her amazing force fields. Violet remembers discovering her superpower at the age of seven years old, as she recalls it happened when she could not find herself in the mirror and then started both panicking and thinking that she was a ghost.

Just like any other school daily routine at recess, Violet would sit down in her usual bench doing her homework early and getting them done before arriving home. That, or she just watched the other kids have fun with their lives while she does not, unfortunately. Currently, Violet was trying her best to figure out her divisions. Sure, she was sick at home during the time that the rest of the kids have already first learned about divisions. The teacher's assistant did promise her she'd teach her, but Violet, however, enjoyed being the first of the class. So it was only natural she'd try learning divisions herself, but sadly she couldn't.

She tried a couple of division problems that she copped on the board with her notebook and each time she used one page and ripped it off, annoyed. When she tried 55 divided by 5 and just couldn't figure out the answer to it. As a result of her frustration, Violet finally threw her notebook behind her and bother to look back or care at the moment if it hit anyone. How could she, the smartest of her class, not learn how divisions workes?.

"Stupid divisions..." She muttered under her breath.

Suddenly, she felt a tap on her shoulders.

Violet turned around and saw a boy who she has never met before. She has been here for two weeks and this boy looked about her age. The boy's hair was black, just like Violet's, and it was formed in some sort of cowlick. He was wearing a black t-shirt with a blue circle in front and a lighting bolt on it and also wore a light black jacket and blue jeans.

"Hey, kid, is this your notebook!?.", He asked, while rubbing the back of his head.

"Oh, I'm so sorry!. Did...Did it hit you?." Violet asked, suddenly regretting throwing her notebook back.

As soon as Violet revealed her face to the boy, he suddenly felt dizzy in a good kind of way. He felt like just by looking at her face and not say anything else, he could have spent the whole day just looking at her. That is until he suddenly remembered that he was angry with this girl and instead of thinking it over, he immediately said, "Uh, yeah, duh!. You should watch it next time!."

"Okay, I'm sorry..." Violet said shyly and thought to herself saying, "Great, I just hit my notebook on this boy. He must probably hate me right now."

Then the boy looked at Violet with a hint of guilt. He just did not want to get hit by a book, and not hurt the girl's feelings. He looked at her and said while rubbing the back of his head, "Well, actually, you know what?. It's, in, it's okay. Just...Just make sure it doesn't happen again. Ok?."

Violet was surprised by his sudden change but answered, "Ok, I won't."

"I'm, uh, Wilbur. Wilbur Robinson. I just moved into this school from my snobby fancy rich private school. And...I don't know anyone and um...uh..." Wilbur paused, not sure what to say.

Not too long ago he just screamed at this same girl, and he is being nice to her?. To him, it didn't make any sense none what so ever and it even makes no sense to Violet even more. And she was Wilbur's victim of all people!. But luckily for the two, Wilbur managed to break the awkward silence between the two and spoke with honesty.

"I'm not making a very good first impression, am I?." Wilbur said sort of sadly. He logically knew that making friends, especially his age when everybody he sees has their forever childhood for-life friends. Which by the way was hard enough for him being the new kid. As for Violet, she didn't answer. Well, at least not at first of course. She can see that the boy was visibly upset, but Violet wasn't so sure if she should be friends with him. Especially when he rudely approached her and started screaming at him. But fortunately, she felt a connected spark with Wilbur. A spark of destiny that felt like this is supposed to happen and have a super ultimate bond that no one or thing can break.

"Um, no, not-not really," said Violet.

Wilbur sighed sadly, "The truth is that I never think before I speak. I guess you can say that it gives me a lot of trouble when it comes down to making friends, huh?."

Violet did not exactly know what to say, but she did, however, feel sorry for this boy. She knows about the pressures of being new. Her good gentle nature was telling her to him while her mind is telling her not to. Nonetheless, she followed her nature for once in her life. As such, Violet shared her confession to Wilbur and said, "Well, I always think before I speak. But this gives me more trouble than you think...It would nice just for once to say what I think for a change, instead of being quiet."

Wilbur rose his eyebrow. He can believe that she of all people was being nice to him. Including the fact that he snapped at her not too long ago. At that very moment, he felt an identical spark between himself and her. A bond that felt right just like how Peter Parker felt when making contact with the symbiote itself. The only difference about it was that he and Violet won't separate no matter how difficult things were in their lives or what the cold cruel world throws at them. They were staying together like gorilla super glue.

"Are you...being nice to me?. Even though I screamed at you?." Wilbur asked, not believing what he saw or maybe he misinterpreted it.

"Yes," Violet answered nonchalantly, standing up in front of Wilbur, "And you're nice, too."

Then she smiled at Wilbur who then said, "I am?."

Violet giggled at that question and said, "Yes. The only reason you weren't nice at first is that I hit you with my notebook on accident. It is only natural to feel like that.", still holding her sweet smile.

"So...you think I'm nice?." said Wilbur, starting to smile.

"Yeah." Violet said, "So...since you don't have any friends, would you want to be my friend?."

Wilbur smiled excitedly and said with enthusiasm, "Yeah, sure!."

And that is how it all started. Now, no one would believe or even think that these two would later grow up to be the well known best friends in all of Todayland. Well, at least not according to their personalities. Violet is the shyest, sweetest, and the main smartest girl that they have ever known. Now as for Wilbur on the other hand, was the outspoken, weirdest, and the "couldn't-care-less-about-school" kind of boy. Despite being Cornelius Robinson's first and only son. But as the years pass by, the two have taught each other an important lesson. For Wilbur, Violet had taught him just when he should think and when he shouldn't. However, when he is with Violet, he could say anything that he wanted let alone don't have to barely think about it, and never have to worry about the consequences. Regardless, Violet accepted him with the utmost kindness and deep understanding.

As for Violet, Wilbur has taught her to be more open. Even though she is still shy, she can very well still express anger a lot more than both Hulk and She-Hulk put together, which by the way is quite healthy in her case. However, Wilbur is the only one that can bring the crazy out of Violet and not get knock silly by the girl. Nether less the great duo was an unstoppable team and have always been there for each other. They are the ultimate best of friends.

*The Present*

One night at the extravagant mansion of the Robinsons, Wilbur made a huge terrible mistake. A mistake that would cost him everything he loves including his forever long-time crush that he will never change. It all started on a dark rainy night where Wilbur was currently angry at his father. You see, his father has recently finished building a second-time machine and refused to let his let anyone including his son to see. Usually, it would mostly be Wilbur who gets to first see his Dad's recent inventions and such, but this time around, Cornelius is refusing to let him see this invention.

Wilbur pleaded and pleaded to his dad on letting him see his second-time machine for a whole week. Cornelius has tried his best to not raise his voice on his son and not let his frustration get the best of him. But on Thursday night of next week, Cornelius has had enough of his son bothering him about the time machine and just completely snapped at him. Which everyone in the house was shocked and surprised to lay, witness, the first-ever fallout between Cornelius and Wilbur.

"FOR THE LAST FREAKING TIME, WILBUR, YOU CAN NOT SEE IT!. NOW GO TO YOUR ROOM AND LEAVE ME ALONE!"

When Cornelius yelled, everybody's eyes in the Robinson house were widened in guilty. Sure, Wilbur was at his naggiest, and it was only natural, but they all jumped at Cornelius's screamed voice. On that night, Cornelius has left home without apologizing to Wilbur who he wanted to do but his private plane was waiting for him since he did have a mandatory business trip to go to. This means that he will be gone for a good few days which he does once at the beginning of the first two months of the year. On that same night, Franny had asked Cornelius if he thought it was a bit too harsh of him to scream like that to their son, but Cornelius was beyond angry and regretful to respond to his beloved wife. Cornelius knew what he did was terribly wrong and wanted to immediately apologize to Wilbur, but felt that it wasn't a good time to apologize to him...yet.

As for Wilbur, he went into his room, locking the door behind him, and then jumped onto his bed, and begin yelling into his pillow. Just like his father, Wilbur is beyond angry that when he heard his phone ringing and barely looked at the caller ID to see who was calling, and just smashed his phone against the wall. Later that night, the Robinson's family dinner was dead silent. The whole family still could not believe the incident that has taken place in the huge living room just an hour ago. So when the house phone begins ringing in the corner of the dining room, Franny and along with her brothers Gaston and Art all raced to go get it, just to avoid the awkwardness at dinner.

But unfortunately for Gaston and Art, their baby sister, Franny has grabbed the phone, "Hello?."

"Um, Mrs. Robinson?."

"Oh, Violet!." Franny smiled, "Thank goodness it's you."

"Um, did something happen to Wilbur?. He won't answer his phone or my messages. I thought he forgot about our Thursday and Friday night online game campaign on our favorite game, which is Halo. It's not like him to miss some Halo." said Violet, who is currently sitting down in her all purple X Rocker Gaming Chair with Super-Bluetooth technology. In her hands, she had her Xbox-One X-2000 controller and had her game headset on her head and talked through them.

Franny sighed sadly and said, "Oh, Violet, he and Cornelius have got into some sort of fight. He won't speak to anyone. Can you please come over and...talk to him?."

After hearing her plea, Violet knew it was pretty late but it did not stop her from going to comfort her partner in crime. Besides, this was Wilbur that they were talking about, who wasn't usually upset and so there must be something wrong, "Okay. I'll be there." Violet hung up after saying goodbye.

The next thing that Violet did was putting on her funky smelly pair of purple socks that she wore two days ago, before putting her feet in her purple Nike Airforce Ones that she got for last year's christmas from Wilbur. Then she slowly went downstairs and tried her best to escape through the garage after leaving a hologram note on the kitchen table just in case. She jumped on to her all-black bike before placing her wireless earbud headphones and begin playing 'Georgia On My Mind' by Ray Charles. Then after opening the garage door she begins paddling her way out with the garage door shut behind her, and while humming the tune of one of her favorite songs. With the help of riding on the path of the shortcut, she arrived in just ten minutes and parked her bike on one of the lamp poles. After locking down her bike against the pole she then begins to tiptoe her way to the front door and try her best not to be caught by both Dimitri and Spike, who always pops up and try to convince her to ring one of their doorbells.

Violet remembers the first time she came to the Robinson Mansion to have a video game playdate with Wilbur, the twins spooked her when they popped their heads out in the separate plant pots and accidentally rang Spike's doorbell. The next thing that Violet knew when reaching the final step was them popping their heads up and caught her from attempting to knock on the fancy door.

"Hey, Vi, ring my doorbell," Dimitri said.

"No, ring my doorbell, Vi," Spike said.

Violet can only chuckle at this as she got used to them over the years and loved every second of it, "You boys know how to make this girl both feel welcome and make her day special." And just because she was closer to Dimitri's doorbell she reached over and pressed his, and heard the wonderful celebrated music ring.

"Ha!. Dimitri 1, Spike 0.", said Dimitri, bragging to his twin brother.

Spike shook his head in refusal and said, "Nonsense, Dimitri!. Violet only ranged your doorbell because she was closer. Now, if she had been closer to mine then she would have ringed my doorbell. Facts!."

Then one led to another the twins begin arguing amongst each other and caused Violet to be annoyed by their pointless conversation. Luckily for Violet, The Robinson's most trusted and loyal squid butler by the name of Lefty had answered the door and mumbled to Violet, who she can easily understand what he said thanks to having the ambition to learn squid language. Violet smiled at Lefty when he let her inside the house and nodded.

"Good evening to you too, Lefty. How's your mother and father and the whole family?." asked Violet, politely.

Lefty then begins to mumble some more as Violet nodded and listens to the squid.

"Oh, that is wonderful to hear. Tell your folks that I said hi and God bless them.", said Violet.

Once after Lefty said his goodbyes to Violet and resumed his stroll around the mansion, and check to see what needed to be cleaned or dusted before calling it a night. Violet then spotted Franny who looked relieved to see her as she quickly came up to her and pull her into a warm loving hug. In truth, Franny and the rest of the Robinsons see Violet as part of the family and always make her feel welcome when she comes to visit or have a weekend sleepover with Wilbur. Outside of staying at her home and in her room, Violet goes out to hang out with Wilbur at his house and relax or sometimes go to the mall together to shop at FootLocker and Gamestop. Either that or go to their number one fast-food restaurant called Super Burger, and eat their favorite combo meal at their signature booth that is located in the back. After finished hugging Franny back and kiss her on the cheek once the second head of the household did it first, the two then separated and discuss the situation.

"Thank, God that you are here, Violet." begin Franny, "When you get up there to his room can you give this to him?. He hasn't eaten during his time in his bedroom.", she said, handing her the plate of pepperoni pizza

"Okay, no problem, Mrs. Robinson. See you later.", said Violet, making her way to the long flight of stairs.

But then she smirked when an idea had popped in her head. Instead of taking the stairs, she marched her way to one of the air tubes and stepped under it before being sucked into it. Violet laughed her way through the ride of the tube as this is one of the coolest things that Wilbur has shown her when she visited for the very first time, and never gets tired or be bored when riding through it multiple times. Once the tube has dropped off at her destination she then made her way to where Wilbur's room is located. Violet looked at her best friend's door before giving it a try at opening it and discovered it being locked. This didn't stop Violet as she reached into her shirt and pulled out her key chain with a set of keys. One for her house. The other for Wilbur's house. And a special one for Wilbur's bedroom door.

As being the greatest best of friends like those two over the years, the two decided to have keys made for each other's house as one of the symbols of how strong and powerful their friendship is. They agreed to only use their personal keys in case of an emergency happens. When both unlocking his door and put her keys back into her shirt, Violet entered the room to see it a mess. She saw his favorite black lava lamp that she brought him for his birthday was broken into two. Then she saw a glass of water shattered all over the white carpet floor and left a huge stain. All of the posters of their two favorite anime show's called KonoSuba: God's Blessing On This Wonderful World! and good old Dragon Ball Z were all ripped into pieces or been torn in half. This both shocked and hurt Violet when seeing the posters of her beloved animes being turned into pure garbage with no mercy thus, letting her know full well that this is a serious problem.

"Wilbur?.", said Violet, finding her best friend lying on his bed all curled up.

"Vi?. Is that you?.", said Wilbur, looking behind him and saw his best friend, "Hi..."

It easily broke Violet's heart when seeing her best friend like this and being so upset. But she managed to keep her head up and comfort her best friend, "Are you okay?. Your mom has told me to give this to you. She told me that you have not eaten anything after the incident with your dad."

Wilbur looked at Violet with a sad look on his face before glancing down at the plate of pizza in her hands, "Mmm, I don't want any, thanks..."

This shocked Violet as she knows that she and Wilbur have always loved pizza no matter what time of day it was. However, it sparked an opportunity for Violet as she said, "Whoa, Wilbur Robinson refusing to eat pizza?. Something must be seriously wrong here. If you refused to eat a slice of good old pizza then I know for a fact that it is snowing in San Andreas, California."

Wilbur instantly detected that Violet was trying to lighten him up by deciding to the situation into a joke and taking it seriously at the same time. Something that he taught her when they became official friends to help her be more open. It's still a work in progress but it did make him chuckle a bit and said, "Yeah, yeah, there is something seriously wrong here. And you know as well as I know that there is a zero chance that it would snow in San Andreas, California."

Violet chucked at the fact that is true while taking her seat on his bed beside him and had her ears all open to hearing and listen to her best friend's story. Of course, she sighed throughout the storytelling. Again, Wilbur did not understand why he wasn't supposed to nag at his father just so he can see that second-time machine. His father nearly damaged the first one when testing its flight ability and has a good reason why this invention is indeed both dangerous and unique. When Wilbur finished his story to Violet who was interested in seeing any one of those time machines and get all geeky about it, but then managed to see what Cornelius was talking about the possibility of risk of losing one of the machines and watch history itself be rewritten. That, and she has been binge-watching Back-to-the-Future and knows the downside of using one.

"M...Maybe your dad was right...", said Violet, in honesty.

Wilbur looked at Violet in disbelief as he expected her to take his side, "Violet, you can't take my dad's side!. Now, how would you feel if I took your mother's side!?. I mean come on here!."

"Well, fun fact about me, Wilbur. I never get into something like this with my parents." Violet said smartly with a smirk.

"...Oh, right." Wilbur sighed, "I guess should have known better, but I couldn't help it. Guess I should apologize to dad when he gets back from his business trip. And hopefully, he might let me see the second-time machine when I get in his good grace."

"Yeah, you should do that, Wilbur. I'm glad to be of service.", said Violet, both smiling and being full of herself.

Then a mischievous smile grew on Wilbur's face as he said, "Or...I can sneak in tonight!."

Violet nodded and gave a mischievous smile on her face as well, "Yeah, sure, and also..., Violet paused as her brain begin to comprehend what Wilbur just said and looked dumbfounded at agreeing with it, "What!?. Wilbur, no, don't!. Are you nuts!?."

Wilbur shrugged his shoulders and said, "Why not, Vi?. It's a downright perfect idea!. Nothing wrong is going to happen. Listen, all I have to do is to tell my mom that I forgot my bag in the garage and take a quick look. It's genius!."

"Now, why on earth would you lose your bag in the garage?." Violet snapped, "You can't go!. I have a bad feeling about this. And you know when I have a bad feeling about things it ought to come to a reality."

"Oh, Vi, you act like this when you are hungry and..." Wilbur stopped when Violet spoke up.

"Wil, I have to get going. Dinner will be ready at my house at this time. Just promise me that you won't go into the garage?.", said Violet, after taking the chance of eating Wilbur's pizza.

"Oh, come on Vi, don't be a square. Please, don't let me make a promise that...", Wilbur didn't get the chance to finish his words again when Violet interrupted him.

"Now, I'm pretty sure that your dad will let you see it when he comes back from his business trip. And when he does it will be worth it. Plus, call me when he does because I too want to see it as well." said Violet, with a cheerful smile.

Wilbur sighed in defeat as he said, "Okay, fine, I promise not to sneak into the garage to go see the second-time machine."

Violet smiled wide and said, "Alright, cool beans!. Well, I gotta go. I see you tomorrow, yes?. And you are going to be online tomorrow when we play Halo, right?."

"Sure!. Oh, and you might want to put this on, Vi." Wilbur said, throwing his black hoodie to her, "It's starting to rain. Don't want you to catch a cold now, would we?."

"Thanks, Wilbur. See you tomorrow morning in school by our lockers. Farewell.", said Violet, before going up to the air tube again to get to the first floor.

When reaching back down where she found Franny who was about to go fix herself some tea. She asked Violet about Wilbur's status as the news was quite good. "He'll be fine, Mrs. Robinson. See ya later.", said Violet, right before giving her a goodbye hug and left the house. When Violet removed her lock off her bike and begin riding it back home, she could not help but hear someone in one of the bushes talking to a machine or something. Violet stopped her bike to listen but then the noise from the bushes became silent as if there was no one hiding inside of it. She waited for a few seconds before shrugged off and resumed riding her bike while beginning to sing the lyrics of her recent paused song.

Once seeing she was long gone, little did Violet know that Wilbur had crossed his fingers when he made his promise to her not to go to the garage. Wilbur then begins to grab his blue poncho and wore the biggest smile possible on his face while running down the steps. He found his mom at the end of the steps who just got done making her sweet tea and put his plan into motion.

"Hey, Mom, I'm feeling ten times better!." Wilbur announced.

"Oh, that is great!. I knew Violet visiting would help you. It never fails!.", said Franny, smiling proudly.

"Yep, she's my best friend after all. Violet never fails. Yeah...oh, man, I forgot my schoolbag in the garage, and I have that essay homework to do in language arts. Mind if I go in and fetch it?." said Wilbur, in the sweetest voice that he could give out.

"Boy, Violet is going to kick my ass, when she finds out that I broke my promise to her. But on the bright side, when I tell her tomorrow that went wrong and then treat her to an all you can eat chocolate parfait, then she'll undoubtedly forgive me in a fast second. I'm a pure genius when I put my mind to it." Wilbur thought, right before his mom permitted him to go right ahead.

Once putting the code to the keypad for the door to open, Wilbur entered inside and clapped his hands to activate the clapper lights to turn itself on. His eyes grew wide when his sights were upon the second version of the time machine. It was all blue and way much better than the original one. The buttons themselves looked so high tech in which put a big smile on Wilbur's face as he reached into his right pocket and pull his phone out. Then he used his phone to take a quick picture of the thing before exiting himself out of the garage. At that moment he heard his mom's voice from the house and took a listen to what she is saying.

"Wilbur, sweetheart, don't forget to close and lock the door back!.", said Franny, before going back inside where it is warm.

"Yeah, Mom, I heard you nice and clear." Wilbur yelled back to his mom just before hearing a strong lighting noise, "Okay, time for me to bounce out of here."

With that being said he rushed right out of the garage and back inside the house. Let alone left the garage door all open without realizing it. After lying to his mom, he got into his room both in his Dragon Ball Z pajamas and oh his bed smirking with success on his mind. He sure showed both Violet and his father. And best of all nothing bad has happened which means that it is nothing to worry about. That is at least it was not the case until the next night that he found out he had made the biggest mistake of his life. The biggest mistake that will cost him dearly. Including his beloved crush and best friend, Violet Parr.
