I remained sitting across from her.
"No," I said simply then watched her shrug in a noncaring manner.
"Leave," Bella demanded as she motioned towards her door.
"We aren't done here," I reminded her, earning an eye roll in response.
"Oh yes, we are," she chuckled as she stood up and looked at me with an expectant look, but I remained sitting at her table with my hand wrapped in a towel.
"Did you take Dad's money?" I asked again as she ignored me.
"I should have never let you in," she mumbled while biting on her thumb nail nervously.
"That was your mistake," I chuckled as I stretched out my legs as if I were making myself at home in her tiny kitchen.
"Not the first one, that's for sure,' she muttered in a dismayed tone as I watched her rub at her pretty face with a worried look.
Her words stung as anger flared bright once more in my chest.
"You honestly believe that I… that we were a mistake?"
The words tumbled out gruff and full of hurt as I met her gaze with a dark one of my own.
Bella's face blanched for a moment then she looked away.
"I have never said that," she defended herself with a deep scowl as I stared her, unable to hide my shock.
"You know what? I don't care anymore," she sighed in defeat as I forced a smile. I was still reeling from her comment to enjoy her concession.
"Stay. Go. I just don't care anymore. You win Edward," she shrugged stiffly.
It was clear she did care despite how cool she was trying to play it, but I was dumbfounded by her declaration.
You win.
Didn't she know how much I had lost in her stupid little game of control.
"You know…" I began sly only to be silenced by the shrill ring tone of my phone.
Angela.
"Hey" I answered weakly, feeling deflated as I was certain as to why she was calling.
There was no doubt by now she knew I had punched dad.
"I have tried my best to understand this weird sense of obligation you have concerning your ex," she sighed in a tired manner that did nothing to hide her irritation.
"But you attacking your dad?" she chuckled as I rolled my eyes in response to her words.
"Unacceptable."
It was clear Bella could hear Angela's chastising me as she took a step back and shook her head in what might have been disappointment.
"Ange…"
"Don't you dare, Edward Cullen. Do you hear me?" Angela hissed in anger causing Bella to eye with a slight smirk on her pretty face.
"All I wanted was for our wedding to be perfect and there is nothing perfect about your father having a broken nose in our pictures?" she practically screamed at me.
"And over what?"
She gave me the space of a heartbeat to respond, but I had nothing to say.
I looked over at Bella who was watching me as we both listened to Angela berate me.
"Do you mind?" I whispered earning a grin from the pretty girl before me who was quick to take the seat before me once more.
"Not at all," she murmured as she leaned closer.
"Do I mind?" Angels shrieked at me causing Bella's grin to go wider with amusement as I closed my eyes.
"Angela, I am done with this conversation," I finally spoke in a hard tone that silenced her.
"You can be done all you want, Edward, but I will not allow your little temper tantrums ruin my wedding. Do you understand me?" she finished in a cold tone that earned an eye roll from Bella before promptly hanging up on me.
An awkward silence hung in the air between this for a moment before Bella grabbed the note pad next to her and quickly wrote something down.
"She sounds delightful, Edward," she chuckled as I felt my face flame red.
"She isn't always like this," I defended her even though there was no reason to.
"Sure," Bella soothed me with a twinkle in her eye that made me feel stupid.
"Anyway, here's the name of the attorney I used in our would be divorce in you're interested," she said as she offered me the paper she had just written on.
"I'm using Dad's attorney for our divorce," I said stupidly, then mentally kicked myself for admitting that I was using Dad's help once more. I watched as her eyes gleaned bright with silent amusement once more as she waved the paper in front of my face again.
"Of course, you are," she said in a syrupy sweet voice as she nodded her head.
"This is for next time," she grinned like a Cheshire cat at me. It was bright and beautiful even if I was the subject of her laughter. "Daddy may not be as supportive when you divorce the girl, he set you up with."
"Fuck off," I muttered as I took the paper from her and sat it down by the folder in which held our divorce papers.
"Ouch," she laughed as she rubbed at her heart playfully before sobering in the heavy stillness between us.
"I guess I'm not one to judge considering my track history," she sighed dramatically as I shook my head at her.
"I mean, Jacob…"
"I do not want to hear about it," I reminded her as I felt my heart tighten in my chest uncomfortably. It was the same feeling I got every time I thought about her and him together.
"He knew it was all a front," she sighed as I rolled my eyes at her.
"Bull shit," I muttered as I struggled to focus on anything else except the image of her with him.
"I tried too… I just could never…Not with him." She whispered causing my head to jerk look at her.
"I mean, you were dating so why not me, right?" She continued on in a clipped tone while giving me a very pointed look.
"I…"
"No explanation needed, Edward," she claimed as she held up her hand.
"You decided that you were no longer interested, so no big deal. That's how it goes, right?" she chuckled darkly as she looked down at the cheap linoleum beneath our feet.
"I just never understood why that didn't apply to me," she laughed as she finally met my gaze once more. Her eyes were glassy with unshed tears that she attempted to blink away.
"He was good at keeping you away so I guess it all worked out in favor, because look at me now? I can't even get you out of my apartment," she laughed sardonically as she shook her head, refusing to meet my gaze once more.
"Anyway," she said with a deep sigh as she stood up once more. I watched her as she looked around the room and then shrugged in what could only be disappointment.
"There is extra pillows and a blanket in the chest by the couch," she said as she waved her hand in the direction of the of her couch as she turned to leave me.
"Where are you going?" I demanded as I watched her.
"To bed," she said with a laugh. "I've had enough for today."
"You never answered my question," I reminded her as she retreated back to the bedroom leaving me alone.
