Chapter Three: He Saw Me

"Well, it is official. I am the queen of the cowards. I can talk a big game but can never play ball. Man, I am so, so, so, so lame let alone being a loser nerd." said Violet, speaking to herself while hiding from Wilbur.

It is twelve minutes until school is out and since Violet and her classmates have finished their test in culinary arts class, they were granted by their teacher to exit out of school before the actual bell will ring. Her classmates took the opportunity to go to a nearby Dairy Queens while she hides behind the half wall to both avoid Wilbur from finding her and secondly, she is waiting for her mom to come to pick her up. She called her ahead of time once her culinary arts teacher has granted them their early release and had to wait due to her brother's once again trip to the principal's office. Violet sighed in frustration on losing a guaranteed getaway and now have to wait it out with a strong hope that her childhood best friend won't be searching for her. Violet took the moment to take off her book bag to get her wrapped half-sliced white fudge stuffed chocolate brownie cake that she baked for her culinary test, and then started to take a big bite of it.

"Mmmm, I did a great job on this cake brownie." Violet commented to herself before taking another big bite, "Man, I should have added some peanuts and pecans because this is so delicious. However, this does not change my current crappy situation, tho."

It was sad for Violet to chicken out on asking Tony to go out with her especially when getting good encouragement. She hated herself for disappointing Wilbur. She hates to think that she is so weak and pathetic to not be able to do anything on her own around the public without anyone doing it for her. Violet prayed to God to help make her confident and be able to stand on her own two feet, and till this day she waited for her prayer to be answered. She just has to be patient and stay faithful to Him. At this moment, Violet started thinking about herself and then began to question everything about herself.

"Why on earth am I so darn shy?. Why could I not be so outgoing and so confident like Wilbur or Strala?. Or even our other small group of friends?. But more importantly, why can I not be more like Wilbur?." sighed Violet, before her eyes began widening open on what she just said.

Violet wanted to be just like her childhood best friend. But why?. That alone just made her feel weird in a good way but still, it was kinda strange. The thought of Wilbur just put a smile on the shy girl's face. It just made Violet feel so speechless when thinking about Wilbur. Her Wilbur. She put her cake back in her bag and put her book bag back on her back. Then she grabbed her two reading books that she brought from the nearby bookstore that she ordered online. She looked at her books. They were written by the same author by the name of Alex Haley. She looked at her first book that she will start to read once she gets back home.

"Roots. A true story that captivated the nation. I saw and have the 1977 miniseries along with the next generation miniseries. A whole complete collection." said Violet, telling herself before holding on to her books with a smile.

She removed half her hair off her face so she could see with at least one of her eyes before hearing the high school bell ringing. She turned around and saw everyone exiting out from the front entrance. She sighs in relief that none of the teens were Wilbur and was about to sit down at a nearby bench and wait for her ride to come. That is until she saw her crush signing autographs and taking last-minute pictures with his already made fans. Yes, sir, it was none other than Tony Rydinger who was being friendly with each individual before heading down the steps. He received a lot of friendly comments and even responded to some of them. Violet watched the boy that took her interest as a few people who were close enough to be visible to Tony's sight.

"Hey, Tony. Got any plans this afternoon?." asked one of the girls flirtatiously.

"Uh, hi. Sorry, but I'm not going to answer that personal question. But thanks for asking anyway." said Tony, as he is completely not interested in encouraging any girl's inappropriate fantasies of him while walking down the steps.

"Hey, Tony, do you want to come over to my house and play a few rounds of Madden NFL on Xbox One X-2000 console?. If not, I have Playstation Zero." said a black male named Johnny, who is one of Tony's first friends of the day, let alone being one of the members of his high school football team.

In response, Tony declined and said maybe next time with a non-forced smile on his face. Which is right before someone came up and asked him for an autograph for the thousandth time. As for Violet, on the other hand, her crush for the new boy teen just went up to the highest level possible. It was so high that it encouraged her enough to say something. Except that she spoke with a shy tone in her voice.

"Hi, Tony…" said Violet, knowing full well that no one can hear her.

Unfortunately, Violet was proven wrong in the quickness. Because Tony stopped himself from taking another step. Then with quickness, he turned around to the source of the feminine voice and saw no there. Luckily for Violet, she turned herself invisible much faster than Tony to turn to face her visibly. Currently, Violet stood still and eyed Tony who was looking around before looking straight dead at her but can only see anything else but her. With confusion written on his face, Tony shrugged and resumed heading forward to make a left to head for the bus parking lot to get on the bus.

"He looked at me." those were the words that slipped out from Violet's mouth.

With that said, Violet made herself visible once more and quickly sat down on the back of the wall and covered her smiling mouth. Taking the moment to comprehend what just happened to her. Realizing that she got the attention of the school's new quarterback let alone him being the number one cutest and hottest guy around. More importantly, Violet can hardly believe that she was having face-to-face contact with Tony. Tony Rydinger!.

Violet let her right hand down from her mouth that still holds that smile with a blush. "He looked at me. He literally looked at me!." she said, before getting on her knees and began crawling to the front end of the wall. And then she poked her head out to watch Tony making his way down the sidewalk to reach the bus parking lot with no worries.

During that exact same moment, Wilbur walked around to the front of the school through the back exit since the front exit was not optional, due to the silly fan-crazed fans of Tony Rydinger. Upon his arrival, Wilbur has spotted Violet on the far side on her knees both watching and smiling with excitement. With a raised eyebrow, Wilbur followed where his best friend's eyes were looking and felt himself getting mad when seeing Tony. He figured that Violet had actually asked the guy out and he said yes. On the outside, Wilbur was happy for Violet. But on the inside, Wilbur was the complete opposite of happy. It upset him, knowing that this guy is officially dating his best friend who he has never met or known anything about her.

"Damn," Wilbur spoke to himself with a head shake.

However, with all the lovey-dovey emotional feelings to the side, Wilbur remembered why he was wanting to see Violet this afternoon. No, it was not about them playing their favorite video game. No, it was all about a promise that he made to Violet. A promise that he broke which in return made him feel absolutely guilty throughout the day and was afraid of the reaction that Violet was going to give. Either way, Wilbur has purposely brought this upon himself.

"Guess it is time for me to come clean and face the music," said Wilbur, telling himself this when making his walk towards Violet.

That is until he saw a familiar black Kia Soul hovercar pulling up. Violet heard a car hunk and turned around to see her mom and Dash.

"Hop in Vi," said Helen.

"Yeah, like come on Violet!." yelled Dash.

Without hesitation, Violet immediately got up off the ground and ran towards the car with her books in hand. Wilbur shook his head from being in a daze and realized what was happening.

"Hey, Vi, wait!.", Wilbur started running towards the car but was too late when the car drove off in a blink of an eye. " Crap, I did not run fast enough."

Wilbur sighed on the failed attempt to come clean face to face with his number one and only best friend. However, he looked on the bright side. Now, he can tell her on the phone while putting up another of her silent treatments after the conversation is over. With that in mind, Wilbur headed to the bus parking lot and got on his assigned bus, and headed home which was going to be some time since the bus driver will hold up time by trying to coax Tony into scoring him for the next NFL season tickets, just so he can watch the live games. Which irritated the crap out of Wilbur.

Time had passed by as the afternoon had turned into night with the touch of cold weather. At the house of the Parr Family, Violet was in her room with the door closed while currently laying down on the bed with a silly dazed look on her face while listening to Redbone's 'Come and Get Your Love' song on her Ultra iPod. Violet had that silly dazed look since she got into the car and did not care at the time who was with her. Helen did not notice that lovey-dovey look on her daughter's face due to dealing with slow and road-rage drivers on the road, which was a good thing for Violet since it saved her from the embarrassment of her mother and father. Unfortunately, Dash, on the other hand, did notice her unusual facial expression.

The ten-year-old boy could not resist the temptation of poking fun at his big sister since the long ride back home. In fact, Dash could not help but to super speed his way into his sister's room and did what came to his mind. He went over to her Ultra iPod that was located beside her and pressed pause on the song. It caused Violet to snap out from her daze and back to reality before annoying sighing at the sight of Dash. She stood up from laying in her bed before taking off her wireless earbuds.

"What do you want, you little gremlin?.", Violet spat with irritation. "And this has better be good too. I was listening to Redbone."

"Pffft, you are the only person besides Mom, Dad, Lucius, and Mrs. Robinson that listens to some old throwback music in your generation. Heck, you weren't even born yet when these songs came out," said Dash, with honesty.

"Get to the point, Dash," said Violet, wanting to get this out of the way.

In response, Dash smirked at Violet and said, "Well, since you insist, Vi. Tell me something...is your boyfriend coming over for dinner tonight?."

Violet sighed, "How many times do I have to tell your big head?. Wilbur is not my boyfriend. He is my best friend."

"And yet still I desired that it was him. I would do anything for a wild make-out session with Wilbur"

Violet's inner thoughts had caused her to regain her silly daze except for this time she was starting to drool a little bit. She quickly snapped out of it when remembering that her annoying little brother was there and was lucky that he did not notice that moment, due to him running off the mouth about the first half that she did not pay attention to.

"Furthermore, I'm not talking about Wilbur. I'm talking about someone else. I mean usually, you are moody all the time. Why else do I give you the nickname, Moody Vi?." said Dash, pointing out with honesty. "So who is the unfortunate guy?."

Violet sighed after pausing her music. She looked at her brother who was waiting patiently and clearly was not going to leave her alone until he gained what he wanted.

"Well, if you must know.", Violet stood up from her bed. She felt herself feeling her happiness again. "Tony Rydinger. The guy's name is Tony Rydinger."

Without realizing it, Violet was going to regret it very soon and very now. Because now, Dash opened his mouth and spoke with no consideration whatsoever.

"Tony Rydinger?!. The son of our hometown's new NFL quarterback?!. Boy, that is rich!." said Dash, laughing his butt off. "And...And you think he likes you?!. Oh, that is pure comedy gold!."

Violet frowned at her little brother while watching him hit the floor laughing hard and holding his left side. "For your information you little twerp, he saw me. As in he saw me, saw me!."

Dash recovered from his laughing as he got off the floor but still had that grin on his face. "He saw you?. Don't you mean that you went invisible before he saw you?. Because that sounds very like you. I mean come on Vi, what boy wants a girl who is famously shy let alone realize that you even exist?."

After just hearing those things from Dash, Violet went sad. And this time around she can not argue or defend herself against her brother since he was absolutely correct. In reality, Tony only saw her because she was invisible. Let alone him not realizing that she even existed. That truly tore her spirit up.

Oh, if only that Dash was smart enough to stop and think about the words that he was going to say, then maybe he would not hurt his sister's feelings. But unfortunately, Dash was more of a literal super hype than a thinkable person. Currently, Dash was still running his mouth off with zero mercy and taking pleasure out of it. Violet can only hope that the humiliation would be over soon.

"So in conclusion I was right, Huh?!. Tony does not care about you or know you were there!. He never saw you. He was only looking into actual thin air!." said Dash, walking his way out of Violet's room with a smirk. He stopped in the doorway and turned to face Violet who had still held her sadness. "Newsflash, Sis!. Not only having the power of invisibility makes you look not only weak amongst other superheroes but it is also your lifestyle."

Once Dash had finally left her room, Violet hugged her knees and found herself in deep depression. It hurts Violet but knows that it is true that her invisibility is her lifestyle. She wanted to change that but didn't feel comfortable doing it. Why?. That is one thing that even Violet has yet to learn or find the conclusion to it.

In her hypothesis, she thinks that she needs someone to help her learn that. Someone say...her best friend?. The returning thought of Wilbur just soothed her depression and replaced it with a warm feeling. This put a small smile on her face. Which leads to her second question. Why was she so obsessed over her childhood best friend?.

"Huh?." Violet's phone had broken her concentration on just about to think about her answer that she did not mind knowing.

Violet picked up her phone and clicked on the blue hologram answer button. Next, the built-in mini projector on the top of her phone had projected a full hologram of Wilbur who had his headset and Xbox One X-2000 controller on hand.

"Hey, Wilbur," said Violet, smiling happily to see him.

"Hi, Vi. I was waiting for you in the game and was wondering what was the hold-up," explained Wilbur, noticing how happy she is as much to his dislike for a personal reason.

"Oh, I was, but I got distracted," spoke Violet, with a little sadness in his voice.

The tone in Violet's voice has caught Wilbur's full attention. "What happened between you and Tony?. I thought you asked him out?."

"Oh, I did," said Violet, giving Wilbur a fake smile.

Wilbur shook his head and got up off his bed. "Um, Vi?. You're not an excellent liar. You suck at lying. I'm assuming that you chickened out on asking him out, yes?."

Violet instantly dropped her smile and said in honesty, "Yeah, I sadly chicken out. I am such a loser."

"What?!. No, Vi!. You are not a loser. You are a winner and you know it." said Wilbur, both feeling joyful of hearing the news that Violet's cowardly personality has finally pulled its weight and trying to boost her confidence.

Violet shook her head. "No. No, I'm not a winner, Wilbur. I never did anything that declared me a winner. And probably never."

"Ah, Vi, get out of that pity party. You've done a lot of things that define you as a winner," said Wilbur.

Violet positioned herself in a laydown position while still holding her phone. "Name some. I dare you."

Wilbur was mentally prepared for this. He reached his bottle of lemon-flavored water from his bed to take a few sips. Then when done drinking he spoke with a moistened throat. "Well, for one, you beat me in a mega-giant slushie drinking contest at a Super Quik Trip. Then you beat me and our friends in bowling with all strikes. All strikes!. Seriously, how is that even possible?."

This made Violet smile a bit. "Well, I don't want to brag but, I do have magic hands when it comes down to bowling."

"Well, duh!. You are a boss in bowling, Violet. And do not get me started on the time when we went to IHOP and you performed CPR on the restaurant's male manager and…" Wilbur got cut off.

"Alright, I get it, Wilbur." Violet can not help but smile wide. "I did some pretty cool things that even you can not do."

Wilbur smiled and said, "Soooo, can you say it?."

"Say what?." Violet had a look of confusion.

"You know." Wilbur leans over. "Say that you are a winner and not a loser."

Violet gave it a thought and said, "Uhhh, I do not know if I should."

"Come on Vi, it will make you feel better. So go and say it." encouraged Wilbur.

With a sigh of defeat, Violet submitted and said with a mumble. "I'm a winner and not a loser."

Wilbur was not going to take the moody response. And so he tried to hear what he wanted to sound. "Nuh-huh!. I'm not going to take that moody sound of response. I want to hear you say it with enthusiasm. Come on and get out of that bed and say it with confidence."

This encouraged Violet to chuckle as she got out of bed and stood up facing her hologram friend. "I'm a winner and not a loser."

Wilbur chuckled and said, "I said with enthusiasm. Not medium enthusiasm. I'm not going to stop until you say it with effort. Take a deep breath and say it strongly!."

"I'm A WINNER AND NOT A LOSER!!!!." yelled Violet, ending it with laughter.

The two laughed off like any typical best friends would do in this situation. This has certainly cheered up Violet to the point that she ignored what Dash just said a few moments ago. All thanks to Wilbur. Her Wilbur. That was one thing that Violet cherished the most and was never going to let him go for nothing.

Violet smirked at the thought of having Wilbur all to herself and was willing to fight for him. Which secretly is one of her motivations.

"You know something, Wilbur?. Even if I did ask Tony out, I would just go invisible and disappear." Violet spoke with honesty.

Suddenly her eyes lit up in the realization of what she just said. She literally just freaking exposed herself to being an actual superhero to Wilbur. And Violet was not ready to tell Wilbur about it until their friendship anniversary came around the next year. Violet was biting her fingernails in anxiety about what her best friend was going to say next. Wilbur looked at her with sadness and could not believe what he just heard.

"Vi...you are not invisible. Just because Tony and the other guys in our neighborhood and school don't notice you, does not mean that you are invisible. Forget about them." said Wilbur, with a confident smile.

Violet relaxed with a fun giggle as her secret was safe for now. "That's my Wilbur. He is such a dumb-dumb sometimes. That is one of the things that makes me fall head over heels for him." Violet slightly shook her head a little bit from what her mind was saying but, her heart was taking it to a whole new level when beating romantically.

"Let's change the subject about me." Violet did not want the night to just be about herself. "So, buddy, did you keep your promise last night?. I hope so."

On that question, Wilbur went completely silent. He was not prepared to tell her through the hologram phone chat but wanted to do it in person. Violet waited for a response with a waiting look. Without further ado, Wilbur can say the one thing that was his last resort.

Wilbur smiled and said coolly, "That is an excellent question, Vi. You see…"

"You went in the garage, didn't you?." said Violet, as soon as Wilbur had almost finished.

"Say what?. I would never dare to do such an act like that. Oh, Violet, you underestimate me. And here I thought and believed that you know me too well as an open book. I guess that you feel very guilty now, huh?." said Wilbur, putting on his amazing acting which helps ever so often.

"Wilbur Joseph Robinson, there are three ways that I figured out your lying trick technique since after the second week we met. First, you would say your iconic catchphrase 'That Is An Excellent Question' when you know that the answer is downright wrong. Second, you will try to make someone feel guilty of accusing you about it and make them drop the whole subject. And third, it encourages both the soles of my feet to incredibly start itching." explain Violet, while quickly sitting back on the middle section of her bed and started scratching both the bottom of her feet and trying not to laugh from the tickles.

As much as Wilbur enjoys watching Violet's gorgeous feet act work due to having a wild feet fetish, he felt the guilt riding him like no tomorrow as Violet was indeed right and had to confess.

"Yes, Violet, I did sneak into the garage and saw the time machine," said Wilbur, before thinking about something that connects with the conversation. "Wait, did I close the garage door?."

"Wilbur you broke my promise!. That and you lied to me!. You're making my feet itch!. I am having an itching sensation!." yelled Violet, who was scratching hard while both feeling relief and holding her laugh.

"Vi, I got to go. It's urgent. Bye!." Wilbur turned off the hologram phone chat and then drop his controller and headset before running out of his room to go check the garage.

"Vi!. Dash!. Bob!. Dinner is ready!." cried Helen from downstairs.

"Coming, Mom!." Violet managed to get out of bed and headed out for dinner while seriously rubbing her feet up against the carpet floor to relieve the itch.

Meanwhile, at the Robinson's House

Wilbur quickly rushed down to the front door and ran around back to go check to see the garage door. Not carrying how cold it was outside as his mind began to panic on the outcome of his actions. Once finally reaching the garage he stopped in his tracks. There Wilbur saw that the door of the garage was open and went inside to see what was stolen. Wilbur ran to look to see if anything was missing as he noticed a short circuit, Carl, aka 'The Robinson Family's family member and number one trusted AI robot' was laying up against a medium-sized light blue cylinder container with sparks popping out from the top of his head.

"Carl!." Wilbur ran over to his best friend and looked over him to see the damage. "Damn, someone had overloaded and fried your circuits and chips. Based on what I'm seeing, someone has hit you with an amazing strong EMP wave."

Knowing what to do, Wilbur ran over to one of his father's toolboxes and pulled out some tools for technical repairs and spare parts, before rushing back to work on Carl. With quickness, Wilbur worked on repairing the damage that was inflicted on his poor friend. Once done finishing the replacements of the chips and circuits, Wilbur closed the lid on top of Carl's head and sealed it shut before seeing the robot's eyes begin to light back up. Carl slowly got back to his feet with the help of Wilbur while rubbing the back of his sore head. Regaining his memory of what had happened, Carl jumped up in shock and turned to look at Wilbur with panic on his face.

"Wilbur, someone has broken in and attacked me!." said Carl.

"Was anything stolen?. Like I don't know...the time machine?." asked Wilbur, with worry written on his face.

Carl turned around and noticed that something was missing. In fact, he looked through his personal list of items from his electronic mind of every item of the house and found a red flag in the garage department. "Ah, man, someone took…"

"Someone took one of the time machines!." said Wilbur, beating Carl to the punch. "This is so my fault. I'm so screwed!."

Carl watched the young Robinson holding his hand and freaking himself out. "Wait, what do you mean it's your fault?." he asked with an eyebrow raised.

This caused Wilbur to stop panicking and look at Carl with guilt written all over his face. "Well, …"
