Sup guys? Lighting Wolf here, back with another story. This one about Avatar. Enjoy the 800-word chapter. I don't own Avatar, Nick, Michael Dante DiMartino, and Bryan Konietzko do.
Kei didn't question his duties, nor did he get annoyed at what had to be done. He was one of many guardians and servants she had. Kei brushed off his armor as he looked at another of the Royal Procession.
"I'm surprised he didn't disband us." Kei said as he dragged his fingers along the armor. "Before I joined? The Royal Procession did nothing but guard the royal family… But they also worked for Azula and Ozai." Kei added, his voice muffled by his armor.
He said nothing after this. He could guess why the Fire Lord had not disbanded the royal guards who protected him. They were a symbol, a sign that the fire nation had guardians.
But it still confused him. There were far more guardians then him who could protect the royal family. Kei knew his duty was to guard them, be there for what they needed and keep them safe.
However? It still confused him as to why Zuko kept a symbol from an era that he wasn't a part of. There were some objects that were better left in the past… Abandoned and forgotten.
He cleared his throat as the others turned to look at him. Their faces were hidden by their helmets.
"We have a duty to the royal family, rookie." Another guard said as he cleared his throat. "You would do well to remember that next time you think we aren't." The guard put in to which caused Kei to shake his head.
He knew very well that there would be more reasons behind why the Fire Lord allowed them to exist. But he did have a point. Their purpose was to protect the royal family. Kei and them existed to guard and protect them from anything that would dare hurt them.
Kei cleared his own throat. Their armor was designed for protection, not comfort. He could stomach it, they all had to stomach it to protect the royal family. There was nothing but interest in what caused that.
He tapped his fingers on his armor while he looked to the side. There would be time for thinking after this. Now? They carried out their duties that had been part of their lives for decades… No, traditions that had been carried out since the beginning of their empire.
Traditions that he followed, not because he worshiped them… But because he knew just how important they were to the future of their people. He couldn't fathom how best to handle his duties, today.
Then again? Fear helped, it kept him focused, on edge. He needed to be like that… Because it helped… And because it was something that kept his mind busy.
"We have a lot to do…" Kei said as he slipped his helmet over his head. His ashen black hair wavered slightly as he put it over his head.
Kei hummed for a moment then looked out and over the rest of the guards as he turned and departed the room. The fresh group of guards were needed to escort the royal family to their next appointment. He was quite curious as to what would happen next. There was far too much at stake for him to be reckless.
Kei would have his questions answered soon, so he decided to save them for later. He cracked his knuckles and turned to the side.
"Oh, this is going to be a long day, isn't it?" Kei questioned as he walked forward. He was quite tired from a lack of sleep.
Then again? Everyone here was tired. Everyone was on edge for what came next. Kei cracked his neck as well, anything to keep his mind off what happened next. Kei sighed and then started to walk forward. He was quite curious as to what the royal family had in store for their subjects.
Kei smiled under his armor and started to move forward. He stepped into the shining sun above, eager to know what came next.
Eager to know what became of his home.
'Man, do I think way too much to myself.' Kei thought to himself while walking forward.
He sighed to himself and focused on his duties for today. Anything else could wait for later.
