quinn kept telling rachel that it wouldn't be a good idea to watch a horror movie. but did rachel listen? no. no, she didn't.
throughout a good portion of the movie, the small girl was practically cowering in fear as she pulled the hood of her light blue sweater up and over her face. she hadn't slipped, somehow, though she was pretty terrified. when the movie was over, however, she was immensely thankful.
once the film had ended, rachel left the room and went to go find quinn, letting her know that she was going to sleep off the whole adrenaline rush. with a dejected sigh, quinn kissed rachel and waved her off as she headed to the living room to find a book to read in the peace and tranquility of her own room.
once the door was locked, quinn set a baby monitor on the nightstand next to her bed, turning on the equipment. the other half of the machinery was in rachel's room, so that quinn would be able to hear if and when the little had woken up due to a likely nightmare. she wasn't so cruel to just let her baby girl sob for an hour when she needed her.
quinn gave a quiet sigh when a cry was heard from her end of the monitor after around an hour later; rachel was awake, and it wasn't exactly in a way that the little was fond of. she calmly set her book down, turned off the monitor, put it away, and headed over to her girlfriend's room.
quinn calmly knocked on the little's door, unsure as to what sort of headspace the small girl was dealing with at the moment. "rachel?" she questioned calmly, her stern voice echoing through the room as the little baby stopped crying for a short moment. however, when quinn was answered-- not with speech, but with a small, fearful whimper-- she quietly opened the door and she slipped into the room, closing the door behind her.
when quinn peered over at the bed, her own green eyes locked with rachel's big, frightened, brown ones, and it wasn't hard to tell that the other had slipped before falling asleep. she was wearing gray cloud pajamas, her gray and yellow paci was attached to a clip on her shirt, and her favorite stuffy-- a gray elephant that she'd named dumbo -- was being hugged close to her chest as tears rolled gently down her cheeks.
almost immediately, quinn began calmly walking over to the bed, where she picked up the fearful baby girl. "the movie really scared you, huh bubba?" she asked calmly as rachel gently nestled her head into the crook of the mentally older girl's neck with a soft whine.
"... m-mommy..." rachel whimpered out, her voice broken as she said that simple word.
quinn gave a soft, quiet coo as she held the small baby close, gently rubbing the little's back to try to help her calm down. "mama's here, baby," she spoke calmly, a softness to her voice that only rachel had ever been able to hear. "now we know why mommy doesn't want her little baby watching scary movies, don't we?" quinn asked, her voice a bit stern, though not very much-- likely since rachel was in a young headspace, and the caregiver didn't want her to be any more upset than she already was.
thankfully, rachel didn't seem more upset by her mommy's words, and she sniffled quietly as she responded with a small nod. however, she gave a small whimper as she hid her face, seemingly afraid of what sort of punishment she would get. with a quiet sigh, quinn fell silent. she pondered this for a moment before speaking up with a soft tone to her voice.
"... well, it seems like a certain little girl has already been through enough of a punishment," she began calmly as rachel peered up at her mommy for a moment. "... but do not think that this will happen every time, rachel. if you do something like that again, and you're in big space, you are to come to me and let me know. you are not to watch any sort of horror film while you are little, however. am i understood?"
quinn explained, her voice stern, but not intimidatingly so. just enough to let rachel know that she wouldn't be let off the hook next time. thankfully, the little just gave a small nod, clearly understanding the rules. she was never going to do anything like that ever again-- not ever!
well...
