Sometime later, we fell asleep watching the news.

I kept dreaming of him crying out in pain as he held his stomach, blood on the floor, and I— I couldn't reach him in time…

When we woke up the next morning, we showered and I drove us to the hospital.

Edward's family was waiting for me as we arrived.

"Bella, nice to see you again." Emmett said as he pulled me into a hug.

I hugged him back before turning to the ladies. "Meet me back here in two hours." I told them.

They nodded as we walked towards the front desk. As soon as we all signed in, we were handed wrist bands and led into the back in different directions.

As we walked into the room a man on uniform, along with a man in a white coat turned to us.

Edward groaned as he opened his eyes. His face had scratches as his eyes blinked away the grogginess.

"Edward." His father said, placing his hands on his hips.

Edward frowned, "Dad?" He asked, confused.

"Oh my God. Jeez, man, we could have lost you." Emmett said as he bent down to hug Edward lightly. "You could have told us you got married." Emmett mentioned, chuckling.

Rose smiled, "Yeah, congratulations." She said, smiling at us.

"Thanks." He sighed, taking a deep breath.

"Thanks." I whispered, smiling timidly, as I finally moved and went to his side.

"Hi." He whispered as he saw me. "Hi, babe." He said a little louder.

"Hi." I breathed, looking at his leg before leaning down to press my lips against his.

"I'm… I'm so sorry, honey. " I said, swallowing hard.

"I never thought I'd see you in the Corps." His dad said, chuckling. "I hear you're getting a Purple Heart." He adds.

"Yeah." Edward sighs, staring blankly at his legs.

"That's an honor." His dad says. "You told Emmett not to tell me you enlisted. Why? Why did you have to lie to me again?" He asked, as he frowned at me.

Edward leveled his gaze, his jaw tightening as he responded, "You'd have said I didn't think it through. I hoped to get the chance to prove you wrong." He replied.

His father gave him a disappointed look, "Yeah me too." He said with a scoff.

My eyes narrowed but I saw Edward shake his head at me as he looked away from his father.

His father then turned and looked at the doctor who was standing in the corner of the room. "So, how we doing? Give me the rundown, Doctor?" He asked.

The doctor turned to look at Edward, "Look, this is going to be a long rehab, and he's starting from zero." He began.

"Doctor, will he be able to run again?" I asked as I placed my hand on his shoulder.

I felt Edward's hand touch mine, and relax under my touch.

"It's combat medicine, you know." Edward sighed, leaning back.

"Let's get you walking first. Then we can talk about running." The doctor said, giving Edward a look as he placed his clipboard down.

"Thank you." Emmett said, as he hugged Rosalie to his side, and reached out to shake the doctor's hand.

"Well, your mom would have… Your mother would've been heartbroken to see you like this…" His dad began as he shook his head.

I stared in disbelief as Edward turned away, a tear falling down the side of his face. I reached over and ran my hand through his hair as I stared at him down.

His father looked at me, eyes widening as before he looked away quickly and cleared his throat. "Hey. Let's give them a minute.." he said, ushering everyone out.

As they left, I slowly made my way over to the door and closed it.

"Uh.."

I heard as he smacked his lips, and sighed.

"I went to Emmett's house and he was there…" I told him. "I'm so sorry. I… I was just scared for you—"

He threw his head back and let out a deep breath, "You've got to be kidding me, Bella. What were you thinking? We are totally screwed. I told you he was Military Police." He told me, wincing.

"And you failed to tell me that your brother and father live in the same frickin place, Edward. It's fine. It's fine." I told him.

"It's not fine." He argued.

"It is. We'll just get a divorce, and you'll never see me again." I told him as I tried to stay in the same spot next to the bed.

Through the window I noticed that his father was standing there, talking with the doctor.

"No, no, no he doesn't trust me already. He's already watching us." He told me as his eyes stayed in the glass.

"No, he won't turn in his own son." I told him.

"You have no idea. Even though he's retired, he still acts like a cop. Gotta keep it together. A couple months until I get back on my feet." He sighed. "We'll live together just till I'm done with supervised PT. W-We'll be off the radar. All right?" He asked.

I stared at him in disbelief. Was he being serious?

"Until then, we have to make them believe this is a real marriage." He told me.

"Edward, a couple of months? Wah— What does that mean exactly?" I asked in disbelief.

Okay. I may be overreacting a bit but I've never lived with a man. Let alone with one that looked like him.

"We act like married people." He stated simply. "Pretend. All right? You can do that. You can do that." He told me. "Pretend." He repeated.

I sighed, closing my eyes and taking a deep breath, before nodding.

He sighed, letting out a deep breath, and leaning his head back on the pillow. "It's going to be fine." He whispered.

"It is. We're going to play house." I mumbled, with an eye roll. "Is Jake going to laugh or cry when he finds out about this?" I asked.

He inhaled sharply. "Shit." He whispered.

I frowned, "What?" I asked.

"No one— No one told you?" He asked.

"What?" I repeated as my heart began to race.

"Jake… he, um, he was injured badly." He began.

I opened my mouth but he shook his head, "The same mission as this… he, um, he was thrown a few feet away…" He told me.

"No… no. Edward, please. Tell me he's not…" I began, as my breathing changed, coming out in sharp short breaths.

"Bella no, he— he was hurt. Badly. But last I heard he's in a medically induced coma. Breathe, baby. Look at me." He said as he took my face in his hands.

Before I could calm down, a wave of vertigo hit me and my legs gave out.

Blackness covered my vision, as my head began to swim.

When I woke up, I was laying in bed. I was in a different room. Definitely alone.

"What happened?" I asked, as I reached up to rip off the nasal cannula away from my face and tried to sit up only to be pushed back, but I sat back up.

"Lay back, Bella." Alice ordered as she pushed me back down again.

"What the hell happened? Why am I here?" I asked, trying to rip off the IV.

"You had an anxiety attack! Now, lay back before you hurt yourself again!" She ordered.

I sighed, dropping back onto the bed, feeling exhausted again.

"You need to stay calm. No more stressing. You've put your life and—" she trailed off, exchanging looks with Lauren, who looked worried, before looking back at me.

"What are you hiding?" I asked, narrowing my eyes at her, suspiciously.

"Bella, what did the results say when you went in for testing a few months ago?" She asked me, expressionlessly.

I frowned, "It was inconclusive. I was supposed to go in a week later but I forgot to go. Why?" I asked, confused.

She sighed, "Bella, you're pregnant. Almost six months. Haven't you noticed?" She asked me.

I shook my head, "I don't have any symptoms. And my period.. hasn't been off or anything… I feel the same as usual." I told her.

She sighed, "Look, you need to take better care of yourself. Eat, sleep, and exercise right because that baby isn't at fault for any problems you may have." She told me.

"I'm not pregnant." I told her stubbornly.

She sighed and shook her head, "I'm getting the doctor and telling them you're awake. Maybe they can get through your thick ass skull." She grumbled as she made her way out of the room.

I sighed, "Fucking hell." I grumbled dropping my hands onto the mattress angrily.

Pregnant? No, how can I be pregnant? it wasn't possible. It couldn't be.

My mind reeled as I tried to wrap my head around the idea.

I haven't thrown up since May, it was only the beginning of October. I should be showing by now. Plus I don't have any symptoms.

Maybe it's a false positive.

"Honey, honestly, can you say that you haven't suspected it?" Lauren asked me, pulling me out of my thoughts.

"I can't be… I— It happened so long ago…" I told her as I looked down at my stomach.

The usual flat plains of my stomach held a slight curve, only the slightest but it was there.

As the doctor walked in, I held back a sob, and looked down to fiddle with my cuticles.

"Mrs. Masen?" He asked.

I nodded, swallowing hard as I looked up at him.

"We took a blood culture and a urine sample from you. HCG levels in your bloodstream conclude that you're definitely pregnant. Congratulations. Now, a sonogram can be done to get the correct gestation of the baby. Would you like to have one?" He asked.

I looked at Lauren and Tanya, who walked in and nodded.

"I'll put in the proper requests to get those done. I'll be back soon." He said before turning around and walking out the door.

As soon as he left, I felt the sob I'd been holding back leave my lips.

"Oh, sweetie, it's going to be okay. A baby is not the end of the world." Tanya said comfortingly.

"Your career maybe, but not the end of the world." Lauren said as Tanya elbowed her.

"Shut the fuck up." Tanya snapped as she turned towards me. "She's joking." She told me while glaring at her.

"I was. Totally was." Lauren said, apologetically.

I nodded. "Fuck, how am I going to juggle all of this?" I mumbled rubbing my head.

"Look, focus on one thing at a time… for now. Health and proper diet, we clear? No more forgetting to eat." Tanya said.

I nodded as I licked my lips. "How— How is Jake?" I asked her.

She sighed, "He's better. The swelling went down, so they're going to lower the dosage. He had a bad concussion and his right hand and leg were shattered. They couldn't save his lower arm because of the clots but his leg will be just fine." She told me.

I sighed, before looking at Lauren.

She bit her lip and shook her head, "Tyler had two ruptured discs, and a lot of swelling. They're going to try surgery to see if they can get the swelling down but they're not sure that he'll get the feeling in his legs back." She told me.

I reached over and squeezed her hand, "He will. We need to stay positive and think that it will work." I told her.

She nodded as she wiped at her face.

"Alice told us Jasper is having surgery. They're trying to see if they can save his shoulder and the mobility in his arm." Tanya said.

I sighed, blinking back tears, "I was horrible to her…" I whispered.

"It's okay. I forgive you." Alice said as she walked in with a grin.

I sighed, extending my arms to her, she quickly hugged me.

"You're an ass but you're my ass, and I love ya, babe. " She told me as she moved away.

"So, who's going to watch the little spawn?" Lauren asked, excitedly.

I laughed. "I don't know. But it'll be a while before we find out, so…" I told them with a laugh.

A moment later, Edward came in, he was in a wheelchair, and a nurse was pushing him as he looked at me worried.

"Edward, what are you doing here? You're supposed to be resting." I told him.

He nodded, as Alice replaced the nurse and pushed him towards the bed. "Can't really rest when I don't know what the hell is going on with my wife now, can I?" He asked.

I shook my head as Lauren, Tanya, and Alice all gave me quick hugs before scurrying out of the room. "Cowards." I called after them.

Alice stuck her tongue out at me through the window before walking away.

"Brat." I mumbled with an amused grin.

"Bells?" Edward whispered, reaching out and taking my hand as he did.

I looked down at our interlaced hands. "I— I have something to tell you…" I whispered, looking up at his face.

He frowned, as he looked up to meet my eyes. "What's wrong?" He asked me.

I stared at him wordlessly, before swallowing thickly.

"I'm — I'm pregnant." I finally said.

He frowned, dropping my hand as if it burned him. His gaze heated as he looked up at me. "You cheated on me?" He asked slowly.

I recoiled as if he physically struck me. My eyes immediately filled with tears as I moved away from him. "No. Why would— why would you think that?" I asked, woundedly.

"Because I've been away for almost six months. What the hell, Bella?" He asked angrily.

I shook my head, sliding off the bed, unsteadily. "You asshole…"

"What else do you expect me to think? You're not even showing. You don't look any different than the day I left." He told me.

Before I could say anything else the doctor walked back in with a wheelchair. "Mrs. Masen, the sonogram room is ready. If you'll come with me." He informed me.

Edward stared tensely at me, "How far along are you, darling?" He asked me, through clenched teeth.

"She's going to get the gestation right now. Though from the looks of the results she's about twenty three weeks along. Congratulations." The doctor told him as he helped me into the chair.

I got brief satisfaction watching Edward's face go ashen, and his jaw drop as he stared at me as I was wheeled away.

As we made our way out of the room I held back a sniffle and wiped my tears away.

Fuck him. I don't need him. I would do this by myself if I need to...

I would figure it out. I always did.
