Luffy had experienced many horrors in his life. His sworn brother in Sabo being murdered in front of his eyes, Shanks getting his arm ripped off by a sea king, his grandfather's "training", his grandfather's "fist of love", but none of those compared to having to pick the flowers for his wedding. Everything else had been sorted. Nami looked good in anything so it wasn't a problem for him when Nojiko whisked her away to shop for a wedding dress. Gramps had given him the suit he had worn to his wedding. The food was taken care of. Gramps had said he would take care of the priest. The only thing left were flowers. Luffy never hated flowers so much. Roses, lilies, pansies, the list went on and on. It caused his brain to hurt. Luffy never knew there were so many flowers. He wished Nami would just pick one.
"Luffy how about these?" Nami asked showing him a bouquet of orange and red roses.
"Yeah definitely those," Luffy responded, desperate for his torture to end
"Are you sure?" Nami asked frowning
"Yeah!" Luffy said
Smiling Nami said "Ok"
And thus the flower torture as he dubbed was over. As the two walked back to Nami's house Luffy was called over by Garp.
"Luffy I need to talk to you about something"
"What is it, Gramps"
"It's about your powers"
"My rubber powers?"
"No, it's about the power you used against Arlong"
"Huh?"
"Luffy you unlocked a power called haki"
"Haki?"
"Haki is pure willpower. There are 3 types. Armament, Observation, and Conquers haki. If you want to be Pirate King and protect Nami no matter what you need to master all 3 "
Luffy listened intently
"So after the wedding, I want you to come with me for 2 years to train your haki. So you can properly use it"
Luffy said nothing
"You'll still be able to see Nami just not every day"
"WHAT but I wanna see her every day"
"Luffy if you want to make sure nothing happens to Nami you need to train your haki."
Luffy thought about it.
"I'll still be able to see her?"
"Yes. You can call her on the den-den mushi as well while we're away"
"Ok"
Garp smiled at him. "Now go I need to send out invites to everyone"
Luffy ran off back to Nami's house.
"Now let's see who do I need to invite?" Garp questioned. "Let's see Sengoku, Tsuru, I already invited Makino, Woodslap, Dadan, and the bandits," Garp said writing all of the names down. "Who am I forgetting. Oh, that's right Ace! Last the marines saw him he was on Whitebeard's ship. Might as well call them first"
PURU PURU PURU
"Whitebeard 2nd division commander speaking"
"Oh Ace"
"Gramps!"
"Come to the East Blue Luffy's getting married. Anyway, I gotta go I have more people to invite."
Garp promptly hung up. Had he stayed on the call longer he would've likely heard Ace faint. And had he waited for Ace to wake back up he would've known that the entire Whitebeard fleet was heading to Cocoyashi to attend the wedding after being invited by Ace. If Garp stayed on the call even longer he would've known that Whitebeard had told Red-Haired Shanks that his little bet was getting married who in turn told Mihawk and "Dark King" Silvers Raleigh. Garp would then have known Mihawk and Raleigh were heading to the wedding as well to attend the wedding in Shank's place, Shanks had a promise to keep after all so he couldn't come in person. But Garp hadn't stayed on the call long so he was in for a surprise come time for the wedding.
"Sengoku my grandson's getting married and he's gonna be traveling with me."
"WHAT that stupid plan of yours worked!"
"Of course it did. Come to the wedding it's in a month. Oi is Tsuru there as well"
"She is why?"
"I'm inviting tell her she's invited to the wedding too."
"Garp who else did you invite?"
"Ace and a couple of people I know. I got preparations to make so see ya."
CA-CHUNK
"Tsuru"
"Invite the entire Marine fleet too"
"Yes please"
Sengoku knew Garp and some of the "people that he knew." Sengoku knew that meant an island filled with some of the most powerful people in the world. He wasn't going to let an island get destroyed because someone didn't like the flowers or something.
"Who else am I forgetting?" Garp thought. "Oh, that's right him." Garp made one last call.
