The sun shines down on the shimmering city of Canterlot. Ponies of all types crowd the streets. Going about their day without a care in the world. A Pegasus flies overhead, causing a shadow on the ground. High above the city is Film Wheel. His big wings are covered with a mechanical wing. Along the length of his wing is a silver brace with rods going down like bat wings. In between is a black fabric that bends to the wind but doesn't break.
His arms are pressed against his strong chest while his legs dangle loosely. Now on his flank was his cutie mark. A film wheel that he and Acid had invented to help tell stories. His spiked mane and tail blow around in the wind as he yawns before going back to looking around for Acid.
"You would think it would be easy to find a bright red stallion in the park," Film whispers to himself as he glides over the park. Getting looks from little kids playing down on the ground. "There you are, you little bugger," Film says with a smile on his face as he spots Acid setting up a picnic under a tree.
Film dives down before spinning. He pulls up and stops spinning right above the ground. He extends his arms and legs down and slows down as he starts to walk on the ground. He closes his wings as he walks up to Acid sitting on the picnic blanket. Acid has a saddle bag next to him. His horn collar is now a nice gold color with a blue crystal placed flushed with the metal.
"Show off," Acid says with a smirk.
"I go to the best flying school," Film says, placing a hoof on his chest. "Of course I'm going to use what I learn," He says before sitting down next to his brother.
"Doesn't mean you have to flaunt it like a middle school mare who just learned what sex is," Acid says, pocking Film in the side. Film's face turned red as the two laughed at the joke.
"So," Film says, brushing his hoof threw his hair. "Other than small talk, why did you want me to meet you here?"
"Oh!" Acid says as a light bulb turns on in his head. "That's right," Acid turns and starts to rummage through his saddle bag as Film watches. Film tilts his head to the side to try and look at what Acid is doing. "Here it is!" Acid yells before pulling out a new set of mechanical wings.
"Wow!" Film says as his eyes widen with sparkles forming like a little child. The wings Acid holds in his hoofs are a nice gold color with light blue stripes going down the center of the main pole. The new fabric connecting the arms of the device is kevlar. On the bottoms side is sawn little feather into the kevlar. "Acid, how did you even afford it?!" Film says in confusion as he touches the soft fabric.
"I saved up money from working at the dinner to improve the wings." Acid explains as he hands them over to Film. Film gently takes them and looks them over. "You should be able to fly faster and higher with them now." Acid says as Film looks at the feathers.
"What are.."
Acid cuts him off before he can finish, "They are to help stabilize you, like the feathers you never grew in," Acid explains. Film looks down at the new wings with a smile as tears form on his face. Acid smiles as Film whips his eyes clear with the back of his hoof.
"I don't know what to say," Film says, his voice cracking like a teenager in puberty.
"Don't say," Acid says, placing a hoof under his brother's chin. Film looks Acid in the eye to see a small smile on his face. "Just fly," Acid in one fast motion unclips the old wings off of his brother. The wings fall to the ground before being surrounded by orange magic. Acid flots the wings into his saddle bag as Film slides on the new wings. Film clips on the wings before standing up and giving his wings a few flaps. He moves up a little, even with the smallest push from his wings.
He looks over at Acid, who has a small smile on his face. Film smiles before closing his eyes as he spreads his legs out for take off. The small wind gently brushing his wings as he takes a deep breath in. Acid's dim red magic aura comes into focus as the ground and trees around him glow a light green. The sun is as bright as ever as birds fly overhead. Film lets out his breath as he jumps into the air with one push of his wings. He opens his eyes as wind rushes past his face like he never felt before. The air pushing down his hair and rushing past his ears sends his heart rate into the skys.
"YES!" He looks down to see Acid bouncing up and down in excitement. Film had blasted up twenty feet in one wing flap. A hug smile crosses Film's face slowly as the realization sinks in. For the first time in his life, true joy floods his mind. Tears fill his eyes as he tries to wipe them away.
"IT WORKS!" Film yells out as he does a backflip in mid air with ease. Film zooms around the top of the tree as he does tricks for the first time he couldn't do before. Adrenaline pumping threw his entier body as a hug smile is plastered on his face. Film stops and hoovers as he looks up at the clouds.
Acid's smile fads before he yells up, "Don't think about it! If you go to high the wings will not be able to keep you up in the lower atmosphere!" Film however did not hear his brother's words. Like cotten stuck in his ears, his btorhters words were muffled. With images of touching the soft clouds for once in his live, he flaps his wings as hard as he can. He speeds up quicly towards the clouds he could never get to as a kid. "FILM CHAI WHEEL!" Acid yells out, but his words fall on def ears. The wind rushing past his ears and the adrenaline deafening his brother.
Film's heart rises as the excitement and thrill of the wind rushing past his body enthralls him with energy he never knew he had. Thoughts of maybe being able to join the Wonderbolts fills his head as the clouds get closer to him. His smile slowly fades as his speed slows down, even as he tries to flap harder. The air now harder to breath in as he starts to hyperfentlat. He starts to fall as panic sets in as he tries to reorient himself to get back to a fling position.
"Come Film," Acid wispears as he watches his brother fall closer to the ground. Fear fills every part of his body. His chest is welling up and his legs are weak.
Film contours his body and bends his wings as he tries to get back up right. His body spinning so fast to the point were he wants to throw up. The ground fast aprotchin causes his mind to panic even more as thoughts of death fill his head.
"Dang it Film," Acid wispears in anger as he lights up his horn. He grit his teeth as his horn lights up orange as the crystal on his collar comes to life.
An orange aura surrounds Film as Sparks fly from Acid's horn. He shuts his eyes tight as he tries his best to slow down his brother's fall. His mind starts to hurt from the exertion as his body starts to heat up. Film's fall slows down before landing on the ground with a light thud. Acid lets go of Film as he opens his eyes. He sways a bit before starting to fall over. Film quickly gets up and zooms over to catch his brother.
"I'm so sorry," Film wispears over and over again as he lays his brother down on the ground softly.
"It's ok," Acid says as Film rushes over to Acid's bag and pulls out a bottle of water and tylenol.
"No, it's not," Film wispear back as he hands two tylenol pills and the water bottle over to Acid. Acid slowly sits up with the help from Film. Acid drinks down the pills as he rests against Film's body. "I should have listened when you yelled, but I was blinded," Film wispears, his ears flopping down against his head. He looks down away from Acid dejectedly.
"It's alright," Acid says, turning to look up at his brother. Acid resting his cheek against his brother's soft chest.
"No, stop saying it's all right," Film wispears a little more angrily. "I was like Icarsa." Acid raised an eyebrow at Film's remark. Film looks down at Acid and clarifies his statement. "She was a earth pony that got wings, but flew too close to the sky and fell out of it like I did,"
"You got excited, that's all," Acid says, wrapping his arms around Film's body.
"And it hurt you," Film says, looking down at his brother, tears filling his eyes as he swears to himself he should be dead right now.
"I'll be fine," Acid says, looking up at Film. "The thumping is already going away." Acid chuckles as Film shakes his head in disbelief.
"How do you do it?" Film asks, hugging back and resting his head on top of Acid's.
"What do you mean?"
"How do you stay positive all the time, even when things seem bad?" Acid sits there a second, letting the question foster in his head. They sit there in silence hugging each other as the birds fly by. Acid's eyes looking around the area as he tries to think of an answer.
"I think it's because I've seen bad, so I try to spread joy instead of lingering on the bad," Acid says, almost sounding like he was trying to reassure himself. Film just stares off into the distance. Watching Cloudsdale drift slowly over the land of Equestria. Acid shivers as a gust of wind blows by.
Film looks down as Acid huddels up into a ball and presses himself against him. Film smiles as he unfurls his wings and wraps them around Acid. Acid stops shivering and sighs.
"That's at least one thing pegasus has over others," Acid says with a small smile on his face as he nuzzles into Film. "You guys are soooo warm,"
Film chuckles before replying, "It's because of all the fur we have for high altitude flying,"
"I love you Film," Acid says out of nowhere. Film slightly flinches at the surprise show of affection. He smiles before hugging Acid tighter to him.
"I love you too you goofball," Film says, getting a little laugh out of Acid.
