The following morning, Edward was discharged.
His dad, brother, and sister in law came to help me get him home.
We placed the wheelchair in the back of his father's red pick up truck, and helped him into the passenger's seat.
Emmett, Rosalie, and Henry went with me in the car as I drove us to the house.
They tried to make conversation but I was feeling a bit overtired and nauseous as I drove and didn't have the energy to make small talk.
"Bella, are you alright?" Rose asked with a concerned look.
The beeping in my glucometer began to fill the car, causing them to stare at me shocked.
"What's wrong?" Emmett asked with a frown.
"My blood sugar is a little low." I whispered as I pulled over and grabbed my bag, pulling out the glucose gel pack, ripping it open before I shoved it between my lips and squeezed the gel into my mouth.
A sigh left my lips as I felt the gel go down my throat. The weird feeling slowly ebbing away.
"What's wrong?" Emmett asked.
I looked down, "My blood sugar has been slightly out of control lately. With the stressful situation… I'll be okay." I whispered as I got out of the car and made my way towards the front door to unlock it.
They stay there for a second, having a silent conversation, before getting out.
I move back to help them immediately after opening the door.
Edward's father had finally introduced himself to me. Telling me his name was Carlisle. He slowly slid out of his seat as
Emmett pulled the chair off the bed of the truck and rolled it to the passengers side.
Emmett carefully lifted Edward out of the seat with my help, and lowered him into the chair. While Rosalie got the bags off the bed of the truck
"Nice and easy. Easy, buddy." Emmett told Edward as he adjusted himself to the seat.
"Hold up for a second." He mumbles as he bent down and pulled out the leg support.
"Is it okay?" I asked him.
He nodded as we noticed his dad stare around the house as if inspecting it. "Good god." He mumbled with a head shake.
"Home sweet home, bro." Emmett told him patting his back as I moved behind him to push him inside.
Emmett helped me lifted the wheelchair over the door jamb and pushed him in the rest of the way.
"You're going to need help getting settled." Carlisle finally said after they got all the stuff inside.
"Oh, that's not necessary. Srgt. Collins can help from here." Edward said.
The young man nodded as he walked in.
"Are you sure?" Carlisle asked.
"Yep. We'll invite you in next time. Thank you all so much for the help. Bye." I said as I slowly led them out.
As they left, Rosalie turned to me, "You're pregnant." She stated.
I bit my lip and nodded.
"Why haven't you said anything?" She asked.
"I found out a few days ago." I told her honestly.
"High risk?" She asked.
I nodded. "I've got diabetes too. The stress isn't really helping." I told her.
"Don't worry about Carlisle. Em and I will talk to him. You get settled in, and relax. Expect a visit from Em and me soon." She said before turning and walking towards the truck without another word.
I sighed, "Fuck." I mumbled as I made my way back into the living room.
Srgt Brady Collins introduced himself to us a moment later, and explained how he was the counselor sent to help soldiers with these types of situations.
When he left a short time later, I helped Edward to the bedroom, and then made my way into the living room to lay down.
I laid there until it was time to have lunch.
Making a quick grilled cheese and tomato soup, setting it on a tray before taking it to the room.
Edward was on his computer when I walked in. He set it down next to him before nodding.
I set it down on his lap before heading back out to the kitchen to eat a salad, and soup.
When I went in to check on him, he was back on the computer. He had yet to eat.
He looked over at the glucose gel on my bedside table.
He picked it up curiously., "Oh. You're a runner too, huh?" He asked as he read the packet.
"It's glucose gel. I have diabetes, remember? The reason we're married." I said as I moved through the room and plucked the packet out of his hands, before moving to put it in the drawer. "Oh, speaking of, our wedding night was memorable, but we've got to set some boundaries here." I told him.
"Got it." He replied. "I'll sleep in the guest room. You take this room." He told me as he tried to move off the bed.
I rolled my eyes at him, "Not what I meant." I told him amused, before pulling out the glucometer and checking my glucose.
It was still low. Shit.
"I think there's some leftover parmesan chicken in the fridge." I told him, eyeing the uneaten food.
As I paced the length of the room. Fuck. This was a mistake...
He frowned, "Oh, it was too hot. I was waiting for it to cool down a bit." He told me as he took the sandwich and bit into it.
"Oh, I should warn you, I'm not going to cook daily for you--" I told him as I moved away from the bed.
"You're freaking out." He told me.
"What and you're not?" I asked, turning to look at him.
"Calm down. I didn't say that. But you're working yourself up over nothing." He told me.
"Oh, what? And you're not? I mean, I've never even lived with a guy before." I pointed out.
"Oh, no, no, no. I'm…. I'm feeling super. Stuck in a wheelchair, without the ability to fucking move even if I wanted to. I feel fucking great." He snapped.
"Well, is this what's happening? Right now? Like, we're just living together? With your dad coming in and out of our house judging if I pass the wife test?" I scoffed, "Because this isn't what we agreed to." I added.
"Well, I'm sorry that my injury is inconveniencing you. It must be so hard for you." He retorted.
"Don't put this on me, Edward. You can't be happy about this. Like, am I really the person you want taking care of you right now?" I asked him in disbelief.
"No, no, no, you are not taking care of me. Please, don't." He said heatedly.
"Well, you're living with me!" I cried out.
"To avoid a court-martial! What don't you understand about that? You could be charged too." He yelled back.
I exhale, and let out a laugh in defeat.
I hear as he sighs a moment later. "Jesus!" He exhales in a disbelieving tone.
I shake my head as I feel erratic nudging in my lower abdomen, and wince in pain.
"Let's just get through this." He finally says.
"Super." I whisper, as I clench my fists at my sides, trying to to wince.
"Super." He repeats as I walk out of the room.
I feel myself gasp as a sharp pain spreads in my lower womb.
I moved slowly to the living room and grabbed my phone, pressing the correct number before lowering myself to the couch.
"Speak to me." Alice answered after the first ring.
"Something is wrong. I'm in pain." I gasp.
"Shit! I'm on my way." She says before hanging up.
"Hurry." I gasp.
"Relax. I'll be there as soon as I can." She told me before hanging up.
I tried to relax as I slowly rubbed my stomach, and took deep, slow breaths.
Twenty minutes later, Alice and Tanya walk in.
"Where's the douche?" Tanya asked.
I pointed to the master bedroom as Alice helped me into the guest room.
"I called the doctor. They said you need to relax. And put your feet up. If the pain continues you need to go to the emergency room." She told me, as she helped me into the bed and grabbed the three pillows, and shoved them under my legs, and my back.
I nodded vehemently, "What about Edward?" I asked.
Alice frowned, "I'll call his family. I'm sure they can help." She told me as she got up and pulled out her phone.
Rose and Emmett showed up with Henry a few minutes later.
"How'd you get here so fast?" I asked her.
"We were staying at a hotel, I had a feeling you'd need us. Now, care to share why you and Edward aren't sleeping in the same room?" She asked me.
I opened my mouth, only to be interrupted.
"I pissed her off." Edward cut in as he wheel himself in.
She sighed and rolled her eyes at him. "What the hell did you tell her, idiot?" She asked.
"I thought she cheated on me." He told her as Emmett walked in with Henry in his arms.
"You— why would you think that?" She asked as she stood up.
"Rosie." Emmett said as he whacked Edward in the back of the head.
Edward rubbed the back of his head, but stared her down, "She doesn't look pregnant. Look at her. Does she look pregnant to you?" He asked her.
"Yes, she does. In fact, I knew she was pregnant the first time we met." She told him.
He sighed, and rubbed his face with his hand, "Look, I made a mistake." He began as he looked at me.
I shook my head, "I can't deal with this right now… I've got enough stress as it is. I'm already a high risk and this situation isn't helping me or my baby." I told them.
Rosalie turned to look at me, "Well, rest assured that I'll be here to help you out." She told me.
"What about Henry and his school?" I asked.
"Family emergencies are excusable. Don't worry. I've got it all handled." She told me, before she gave Emmett a look.
"Bro, why don't we go watch a game?" Emmett suddenly suggested.
Edward frowned as Emmett set Henry down, before pulling him out of the room.
Rosalie sighed before sitting down on the foot of the bed, and gave me a look. "Alright, now, what are you two hiding?" She asked me.
I bit my lip as I looked down. She held up a hand as I opened my mouth. "Before you open that mouth, I need you to know that you can trust me. But I need you to tell me the truth." She said.
I took a deep breath, "You promise you won't breathe a word to anyone?" I asked.
She nodded, "Cross my heart." She said as she reached out and stuck out her pinky towards me.
I smiled as I hooked my pinky around hers. The smile dropping off my face a moment later. "We got married because I was… am still really sick. We were only supposed to be married for a year, but — but the accident happened and I found out I'm pregnant…" I told her, giving her a light, watered down version of everything.
She nodded, frowning as she took it all in. "Do you love him?" She asked me finally.
I frowned, "I— I don't know." I whispered as I felt tears fall down my face.
She nodded again, "I promise to keep this to myself." She finally told me. "I'll even help you keep it from Carlisle because he's been acting like a dick and that's really pissing Esme and me off… but honestly, Bella, you need to be more mindful of that baby you're carrying. Arguing constantly with Dickwad is only going to add more stress." She told me.
I nodded chewing on my bottom lip, "I know." I whispered.
"Then ignore his ass. For now. And eat more. I'll go get you something. Be right back." She told me before standing up and disappearing through the door.
I sighed and laid back, closing my eyes as I tried to relax.
She came back with a club sandwich, a bag of baked chips, and a fruit salad sometime later. "Eat up. I want my little niece or nephew to come out nice and strong." She told me, as Emmett walked in.
"How's baby Bells doing?" He asked.
Rose looked at me silently asking if she could tell him.
I was too busy enjoying the food, that I shrugged nonchalantly.
"Close the door, baby, we need to talk to you." Rose said.
He frowned but did as he was told before sitting down next to me on the bed. "What's going on, babe?" He asked me.
"Well …" She began, before explaining everything that I told her.
He listened solemnly, before sighing, "Fuck, I knew something was wrong when Bells showed up out of the blue… So, what do we do?" He asked.
"I have an idea." Rose said as she looked at me.
"I'm all ears, hon." He said.
I frowned before nodding as they both argued on a way to get me and Edward to talk again.
By the end of the night, we had come to an idea that might work. The only problem was Carlisle.
