It had nearly been a day since Yuna had went in and started praying. He was experiencing a mixture of worry and boredom. He hoped that she would be alright.

Yuna had been praying to the fayth for twenty-eight hours unrelenting in her efforts. She was determined to become a summoner and follow in the footsteps of her departed father and to make him proud. She wanted to be a summoner to bring hope even if it was momentary to the people of Spira. A ghostly figure emerged from the statue, and it was that of a young woman. A red-headed, golden eye woman who was quite endowed and wore cream colored clothing with a purple outline.
''I am the guardian phoenix of Besaid Island…I am known as Valefor…I have long been a guardian esper for those who have needed the power to summon…Tell me why you have called for me?''
Yuna composed herself remembering the toll of what would happen if she failed. "Sin once again threatens these lands. I ask only that you give me the means for the final summoning, so that we may drive him back for the Calm to come once again."
The fayth frowned. "The last Calm ended little more than five years ago. Already you wish to drive back Sin?"
Yuna held back her frustration. She hadn't had anything to eat or any sleep for that matter so even a kind and patient person like her would be a bit cranky. ''Please…in five years alone Sin has taken countless lives and destroyed many homes…as a guardian spirit surely you will help me protect those who cannot protect themselves…I beg of you Lady Valefor please give me the strength to fight, I beg of you!"
The ghostly spirit smiled, ever so slightly. "As you wish...each specific summon has a test that one must partake in order for us to ally with a summoner…failure to pass the test result in death…if you can concur your darkest fears and let go of your darkest desires I shall aid you,'' She said as she prepared to give the summoner the most challenging test of her life.
Naruto decided to go check up on Yuna. He traveled into the temple, quickly bypassed the puzzles and took the lift down.
From other side came a faint song and a glow of many torches. Naruto followed him down the passageway, which was short before opening into a dome shaped room lined with torches and with strange patterns and runes on the walls. Across from the door was a flight of stairs with a door at the top that was shaped like a shield. On the stairs sat Lulu.
''Hey...Yuna hasn't come out yet?''
''No...not yet...'' She answered. "You know we wouldn't let anything happen to her."
"I guess I'm just a little anxious," he answered honestly. Movement from behind them drew their attention.
Lulu got up from where she had been sitting on the stairs and looked squarely at Wakka, fire crackling in her dark eyes. "What are you doing here?" she snapped at Wakka. "Didn't think we'd be able to handle it?"
"No, it's uh...it's just..." Wakka stuttered. As the woman strode over to them, he hissed behind his hand, "See, I told you she gets mad easy."
That was when they took notice that Wakka was not alone. A young man with blond hair was there. He was dressed in a outfit of yellow and black. Black shorts, yellow jacket and shoes with a full arm guard and black gloves.
"Is the summoner all right?" he asked the woman, practically bursting with impatience. The woman's gaze was scornful as she looked him up and down. "Who are you?"
That was when the door to the chamber opened.
''Yuna?'' Naruto's attention turned back to the door, and he was caught in a trench. Her feminine blue skirt and white vest practically glowing from the light.
As she came down the stairs slowly, she suddenly stumbled and Naruto instinctively hurried forward but before he could help her, the blue cat-like guardian was at her side holding her tenderly in his giant clawed hands.
The summoner recovered quickly indicating to her guardians that she was fine and straightened. Pushing her shoulder length hair away from her face she smiled tiredly at those assembled.
"I've done it," she said her voice echoing her pride, "I have become a summoner!"
They soon exited the Cloister of Trials a group of waiting at the base of the stairs cheered at the sight of her. They all did the prayer gesture, which she returned with a smile.
Soon Yuna was in the middle of a crowd of people. Everyone was curious to see her new found power.
"Okay," she said. Raising her arms above her head she brought them together in a sweeping arc to clasp the staff in both hands in front of her. Then in one fluid movement she shifted her weight forward while sliding her right foot back, one hand holding the staff was flung backward while the other reached forward. Slowly strange lights formed around her and symbols of magic hung in the air. The atmosphere seemed to crackle with magic energy and anticipation alike. Suddenly the aura around the summoner sent four beams of light toward the sky. Were they met and struck the cloud cover, the sky swirled and something soared out of the clouds.
Naruto took an involuntary step back and stared at the large bird like creature, which soared downward and landed in front of the summoner. Towering over her it gazed at the girl, ignoring the other people who watched it so intently. Red and white feathers covered it's chest and body, while it's leathery wings send the dust on the ground whirling around the town's people like a tornado. 'So this is what an Aeon looks like.'
Hesitantly the summoner reached out a hand and stroked the side of the bird like creatures face. Although the claws and beak of the creature looked positively vicious its eyes seemed to exude gentleness. As the girl touched its face the creature closed its eyes briefly and appeared, without actually doing so, to smile.
The summoner turned to her guardians and grinned proudly. The three went over and gave her hug in turn. It was a time of celebration.
That night, the villagers had a small celebration around a bonfire. Wakka formally introduced Tidus to the other Aurochs. "This guy here," he said once Tidus had everyone's name straight, "wants into the tournament so bad, I let him on the team." Tidus glanced at Wakka, wondering if he was joking, but then he realized that the team was too proud to let Tidus join the team solely for the purpose of making them win the tournament. "His memory's a little fuzzy, ya? So don't mind him if he says anything odd!"
Tidus was slightly irritated by this last remark, but let it pass. "So, what's our goal?" he asked."To do our best!" the team shouted in unison.
Wakka shook his head firmly. "Nope, we got a new goal now! Our new goal is: victory! To win every match, defeat every opposing team! To bring the Crystal Cup back to our island! That's all we need to do to win! Easy, ya?" The team took up the cry of, "Victory! Victory! Victory!" Grinning, Wakka announced, "Tomorrow we leave for Luca, so make sure you're up bright and early." Tidus extricated himself from the team as soon as possible and headed for the summoner, who sat talking to an old couple and a small child.
When he drew near, however, the child got up, took a deep breath, and said bravely, "You're a bad man!"
"You heathen!" the man agreed as he saw who it was.
"Stay away from the summoner!" cried the old woman in a voice trembling with old age.
The summoner rose and faced Tidus, but the old man cried out, "Lady Yuna! Be careful!"
"But...it was really my fault to begin with." She approached Tidus and smiled. "I'm Yuna. You're Tidus, I hear?"
Tidus nodded, all thoughts of flirts and charms racing a thousand miles away. There was an air of strength and determination that was nothing like the vivacious and giggling fangirls that took to him. There was a confidence and strength that was a bit overwhelming. "Thank you for your attempted assistance earlier."
"I'm sorry about that. Wasn't that... Wasn't I not supposed to... Guess I...kind of overreacted."
"Well it was a brave thing to do. "
"Um, I saw that aeon thing. That's amazing!"
"Thank you."
The small child ran up to Yuna and said in her piping child's voice, "Lady Yuna, come play with me some more!" Yuna smiled and nodded but looked back at Tidus before turning away. "So, tomorrow then."
"Tomorrow?"
"We're going on the same boat, aren't we?"
"Oh, really?" Tidus was thrilled at the prospect.
"Yes, I'm leaving for my pilgrimage tomorrow. We can talk more. You can...tell me all about Zanarkand!"
And before Tidus could figure out how she knew about his city, she was gone. "She's cute, ya?" Wakka asked, nudging him playfully in the ribs. "Yeah!" Tidus said, not exactly aware of what he was saying. He stared after the beautiful summoner, entranced. But Wakka pulled him painfully back to earth.
"Don't get no ideas."
"No promises there, big guy," Tidus retorted. "Hey, but what if she, like, comes on to me?"
"That's not going to happen, and you'll see what I mean come tomorrow." Wakka's voice was unnecessarily melancholy, but after a small pause, he regained his cheery demeanor.
"If you're tired, I had a bed made for you." Tidus gratefully followed Wakka into the Crusader's Lodge, where there was a free bed waiting for him, and he flopped onto it, exhausted.
Naruto rose from his beds in the Crusader's Lodge. He walked out into the early morning light in silence. Lulu and Wakka were already waiting, and Yuna was struggling with a heavy bag. "Whats all that for?" Naruto asked.
"Ehh... hehe... these are gifts for temples we are to visit. I thought it would only be polite." Yuna's response drew a smile to the Shinobi's face. ''Let me help you with that,'' The blond said as he walked over. He pulled out a scroll and unsealed the ink. He painted some seals on the suitcase and did a few hand signs. The suitcase became as light as a feather. He then placed the suitcase on the ground and took out a scroll and sealed the suitcase in the scroll and gave it to Yuna. ''Just use Mana to seal and unseal it…I got some auto-seals on it so it shouldn't be that hard.''
''Thank you,'' Yuna thanked him smiling up at him.
Not too long after they were introduced to the intruder. Apparently, his name was Tidus and he was going to be join the Besaid Blitzball team.
The group journeyed in silence up to the hill overlooking Besaid, where they stopped for the traditional prayer of safe passage. The blue furred Ronso, Kimarhi had already went on ahead to clear the passage.
The group journeyed in silence up to the hill overlooking Besaid, where they stopped for the traditional prayer of safe passage. Tidus noticed with interest that, like himself, Naruto did not participate in the prayers.
Tidus kept silent, opting to keep his opinion regarding pray and customs to himself.
They took the same route to the beach that Wakka and Tidus had used when the blonde blitzer had first come to the village. Tidus remembered seeing a jetty at the end of the beach and was reminded of his dream the previous night. Being lost in thought he trailed a short distance behind the others and almost didn't notice when they disappeared around a bend in the path.
He was about to break into a jog to catch up when something large landed heavily in front of him, causing him to leap back in surprise. Crouched on the path in front of him was the blue cat like guardian from the previous day in the temple. In one clawed hand he held a long spear and his eyes regarded Tidus furiously.
The blonde blitzer frowned and was about to ask what was going on when the guardian literally pounced. Leaping up into the air he came down hard, swinging his spear to come down point first. Caught unawares Tidus barely managed to roll out of the way. As he came up, he instinctively drew the sword on his back but wondered whether he dare use it against the guardian who was clearly a friend or at least ally of Yuna.
Spinning to face the cat like man again Tidus was surprised to find the guardian regarding him instead of attacking immediately. He wore a calculating expression and Tidus realized he was being tested. The blonde blitzer grinned but his mirth quickly fled as the guardian attacked again. Lunging forward the guardian lashed out in a stabbing motion, which again Tidus had to fight to avoid. He wondered as he spun out of the way if the cat like man was using his full skill and strength. He somehow doubted it and brought his sword around in a slashing motion nipping a bit of flesh from the blue beast's arm. The beast then disappeared from sight with frightening speed and the next thing Tidus knew he was knocked across the path skidding a couple of feet before coming to a painful halt. Right when the beast was going to attack again Naruto appeared out of thin air. He grabbed the sphere in one hand and the beast's arm in another and spun as he lunged into a rock wall. Naruto walked over to the beast. ''Kimarhi! Look I know you're suspicious, but you can't just go attacking anyone you know." Naruto continued talking down the guardian from his rampage while Yuna and the others arrived.
"Is everything alright?" she asked Tidus softly.
Tidus shrugged. "Big blue tried to kill me. What's that guys deal anyway?"
Lulu intervened at that point. "He is Kimarhi Ronso of the Ronso tribe. He has learned to fight the way the fiends do, making him one of the strongest and most agile warriors I've ever met."
"That is exactly not what I was asking for." Tidus turned again to Yuna.
She laughed softly. "We don't always understand him either. He doesn't talk much, and Ronso's are very different in their thinking than humans. But he has been my guardian since I was six, before I even thought about becoming a summoner. Don't worry about him too much, he won't do it again." She explained as it seemed Naruto finished talking with the Ronso.
''We better head out…I don't think you have to worry about Kimarhi killing you anymore," Naruto noted. "I guess he only think those worthy of protecting Yuna should be around her guardian. You haven't had that much experience fighting from what I can see so I can show you how to wield that blade properly.''
Naruto wandered across the vast deck of the sailing vessel musing about their morose departure. This continent amazed him time after time again.
"Them's interesting clothes you're wearing," a round, short man straightened up from the wall and walked over to Naruto. A large pack almost larger than the short man was slung over one shoulder. The man looked the blonde shinobi over in a critical manner.
"Yeugh," he exclaimed, twisting his mouth as if he'd bitten into a lemon, "Filthy, filthy. They won't sell or me names not O'aka."
"Who do you think you are?" Naruto demanded indignantly.
The little tubby man puffed up his chest as much as he could, "O'aka the XXIII, merchant extraordinaire!" he exclaimed proudly.
"O'aka the who?" Naruto said with a frown.
The merchant deflated visibly, "Never heard of me?" he returned with a sigh, "Well not many have," he conceded and went back to leaning on the wall, looking dejected. Naruto stared at the strange little man for a beat not sure what to make of it.
"Never mind him," a voice from behind caught his attention. Turning, Naruto saw Luzzu, the Crusader from Besaid, standing in front of double wooden doors which no doubt led to the hold. Beside him stood Gatta, the younger Crusader with the scar.
"Gatta...where are you headed?''
"Just as far as Mushroom Rock," Gatta told him.
"Past Hi'hen huh?" Naruto questioned.
"Correct...We're riding all our hopes are on this, our final battle." He seemed to almost be talking to himself.
"See you on the other side then," he said.
Naruto started to feel a bit cramped, so he wondered on top of the deck. He could see Yuna standing on the bow of the ship, staring at the sea beyond. He glanced around onto he caught sight of Lulu. She seemed to be looking over the edge and at the calm waters. Taking a position against one of the railings he begin taking in the calm relaxing sound of the water as he waited for the boat trip to come to an end.
