Adam and Rex had flown with John back to New Lorien. They were both quiet for the trip, but Adam kept turning his head around and looked very distressed.
They eventually reached New Lorien, flying over where they landed last time. It was where they had Malcolm and Sam meet them because it was a little more secluded than other parts of the place, but also close to the main homes.
John soon saw the tiny specks of people below them. He heard some sort of shouting that sounded like Malcolm, but it didn't sound angry or like he was trying to warn them of anything, so John kept flying down.
Leo touched down first with Six. Six immediately jumped off of their back and dropped to the ground. Leo laid down on the ground, rubbing the grass with their hands.
Malcolm, Sam, Nigel, and Lexa were all in the small clearing when John touched down. Rex wobbled for a bit before landing and letting go of John's hand.
Malcolm looked like he was about to cry as he stared at Adam. Nine and them landed down and Nine helped steady them. Malcolm rushed forward and pulled Adam into a hug. He looked startled at first, but returned the hug.
Malcolm pulled away and grabbed Adam's shoulders, holding him at arm's length. "You came with them!" He said with a huge grin.
"Yeah…"
Malcolm's smile faded a little and he took his hands off of Adam's shoulders. "The rest of the Mogs are coming back, too, right?"
"Yep," Nine said. "As soon as we can get enough people to go break them out. We'll need to have baskets or something to carry them all in."
Sam walked up to them and waved to Adam. Adam looked at him blankly before looking around at the trees.
Rex had sat down next to Leo and was patting the ground.
"Hey, mate," Nigel said, stomping over and sticking one of his hands out. "I'm Nigel. Heard a lot about ya. Thought you'd be taller."
"Uh, hi," Adam replied, but made no move to shake his hand. They both just stood there awkwardly until Nigel pulled his hand back.
"Well, nice to meet ya," Nigel told them and Adam nodded, looking very out of sorts.
Hey, Nine thought to John. We should probably get them settled in a little better. Him and Rex look like they'd get blown back to Alaska if a breeze rolled through.
John nodded his head and walked up to Adam, who was listening to Malcolm explain some of his ideas about how to break in and out of the prison.
"Alright," John said and walked up to them. "We're gonna show Adam and Rex around a bit. Have them get used to things."
"Wait, I should help Malcolm make plans. He's gonna need an inside look of the prison."
"Uh, well, I have most of that information from the couple of electronics of theirs I went through," Sam said. He smiled at John and then at Nine.
Thank you, John thought to him.
"I should still help. My people are my responsibility," Adam said.
"No offense, mate, but you look like you're about to pass out," Nigel commented.
"You and Rex need to eat something," Lexa told them. "Rest up a bit."
Adam looked back at Rex, who had stood back up and was looking at everything around him.
John grabbed Adam's hand and tugged on it slightly. "C'mon. We'll have time to plan later."
Adam slowly followed John, Nine and Rex coming with them. Malcolm and the others trailed behind them.
"Where are we going?" Rex asked.
"To John's house," Nine said before John could speak.
They walked through the trees until they saw the first couple of houses. They kept going, only seeing a few human garde. They looked at the Mogs for a second before realizing that they were with John and Nine.
They weaved through the houses; only Malcolm, Sam, and Six followed them up to John's front door.
"I'm gonna catch Adam and Rex up on things and get them fed. Hopefully they can get some rest, too," John said. "I'm not sure where they're gonna stay yet, but I'll figure it out."
"They can stay with me," Malcolm said quickly. "I mean, if you want."
Adam nodded. "Thank you."
"We'll come back in a few hours," Sam said.
"Sounds good," Nine replied. Malcolm looked like he wanted to stay longer, but hugged Adam again and left.
John opened his door and let them all in, shutting it behind him. The house was warm from the day and Rex immediately took his coat off. He looked around before just setting it down on John's dining room table.
Adam did the same with his, but asked John where they should put it.
"With Rex's is fine."
Adam set it down and took his boots off. His clothes were dirty and torn in a couple places.
"You should take a shower," John said. "One of you can wash off and Nine and I can talk to the other."
Rex and Adam looked at each other before nodding.
Rex went first and took his time while John talked to Adam about everything that had happened to all of them. They didn't go in depth on anything.
John gave some clean clothes to Rex after he was done and he slumped down on John's couch. His skin was paler, but looked cleaner, too.
John led Adam to the bathroom and gave them a clean towel and clothes.
"Just let me know if you need anything," John told him.
Adam nodded and looked around the bathroom. "Thank you. For everything you've done for Rex and I, and for helping my species."
"You're family, Adam," John told them. "We're not just gonna leave you."
Adam nodded and John left them alone to get clean.
He came back to Nine rummaging through his cabinets.
"Ha!" He exclaimed and held something up in the air. "A protein bar!" He threw it to Rex, who flinched and put his hands up. The wrapped rectangle bounced against his arm before falling to the floor. Rex took his hands down and picked it up.
He unwrapped it after looking at it for a minute. Nine walked up to one of John's walls before climbing on it and sitting down. It looked weird, but John had gotten used to it after a while.
Rex hesitantly took a bite of the protein bar and seemed to at least tolerate it. He took another bite and then just shoved the rest in his mouth.
"I don't have a guest room, but you're welcome to sleep on the couch," John told him. Rex nodded as he tried to chew. "I'll go get a blanket."
He walked to his closet, which was close to the bathroom. He pulled a small blanket out of it and another pillow. The shower was still running, splashing inconsistently against the ground as Adam moved around inside.
"Here," John said as he came back into the living room. He handed the pillow and blanket to Rex, who took them and placed them on his lap.
Nine cleared his throat. "Uh, hey, if you don't mind me asking, what happened to you guys in Alaska? Why are you and Adam so beat up?"
"Let him sleep," John said with a glare.
Rex shifted uncomfortably on the couch before putting his pillow down. "Thank you for your hospitality," he said with a nod of his head. "But I'll warn you that Adam and I won't stay here if you're lying about rescuing the rest of us."
"I promise that we aren't," John told him.
Rex looked over at the short hallway where the bathroom was and leaned back into the couch. He closed his eyes.
A couple minutes later there was the distant sound of the water shutting off and the shower curtain being pulled open.
Adam came out of the hallway. John's shirt was a little short on him and his gray sweatpants were low on his hips. John could see just how skinny Adam had gotten.
"Uh, hey, do you have any bandages?" Adam asked, pointing at his head. He had taken off the wrapping and freshly cleaned wounds were there instead. They didn't look too bad, but one had started to trickle blood and it stuck to Adam's hair.
John rushed over to them. "Here, let me heal it."
Adam took a hesitant step back, before stepping towards John and bending his head down. John brought his hands up and gently touched Adam's head. The warm feeling of his healing washed through him and Adam's wounds started to knit together.
John brought his hands back down. "Anything else you want me to heal?" He asked.
Adam shook their head and looked over at Rex, who had opened his eyes again. He had a few cuts and bruises, but didn't look as bad as Adam.
"I am okay," Rex told them.
"Alright," John said.
"I need to talk to Malcolm now," Adam told him. "Plan."
"No," Nine said, standing up and walking off of the wall. "You need to rest first."
Adam shook their head. "I should be there to plan the rescue and it should be as soon as possible. The army is probably on high alert since Rex and I left."
Nine looked at Adam for a second before he leaned down and wrapped his arms around his waist. He stood up straight, bringing Adam off of the ground. Adam seemed flustered by the action, but didn't fight back or argue as Nine walked down the hallway.
John went after them, opening his bedroom door with his telekinesis. Nine carried Adam over to John's bed and dropped them down on the freshly clean blanket.
"When was the last time you slept more than six hours?" Nine asked. "Or in a decently comfortable bed, for that matter?"
Adam grumbled something out and shuffled around. Nine pulled the blankets back and Adam crawled underneath them. He seemed surprised when Nine came with. They shared John's small pillow and Nine wrapped one of his arms around Adam.
"You coming?" Nine asked, looking back at John. He flew up and landed on the other side of Adam, who's body stiffened.
John closed his eyes and felt as Adam slowly relaxed.
Nine reached out his arm a few seconds later and pulled John closer, his Adam's chest now pressed together.
"Uh, is this okay?" John asked as he opened his eyes.
Adam nodded and John wrapped his arms around them, his head resting on their chest. Their skin was cold, but seemed to slowly warm up as they drifted off.
