It had been a month since Toby had joined the cyclone and today was a slow day so everyone was working on their own little projects, the only people that were missing were Walter and Abigail. Abigail had her final check up to make sure everything had healed up from her accident so they were at the hospital waiting to be seen. While they were waiting they heard a commotion coming from the emergency room. "Daddy what do you think is going on?" Asked Abigail. Walter replied "I don't know Sweetie. It could be a bunch of different things. Someone could be sick or could have gotten hurt."
"Abigail O'Brien." The nurse called out. They got up and went to see the doctor. On the way out they saw the patient list board and Walter was able to see Ca. Gal. a 57 year old male suffering from a gunshot wound.
Once they got back to the garage and Walter gave everyone the update on Abigail, he sat over at his desk and got right to work. 10 minutes later he sat back sighed, and turned his chair around to look out the window. Paige looked over at the clock and called out to everyone that it was lunchtime but Walter never moved a muscle. She went over to him and called his name a few times before touching his shoulder scaring him. "Oh I'm sorry I didn't mean to scare you honey." Said Paige. "No it's alright, I was just thinking about someone that I haven't thought about it close to 15 years." Replied Walter.
As Walter explained that the agent who arrested him in Ireland when he was a little boy was also the person who was able to get him into the states and actually cared and talked to him more like a father than his biological father did. "If there is any one person who shaped me into the man I am today it would be Cabe Gallo. Megan tried to open up my emotions which she did to an extent but you were the one to fully unlock my heart and open my eyes to the possibility to being a real father to Abigail and to really wanting a family with you and Ralph and everyone else to point." Opened up Walter. Paige with tears in her eyes leaned over and hugged him and gave him a kiss said "Thank you for the kind words and I have found the perfect family in you and Abigail and Sly, Happy, and Toby. Why don't you go and visit him? If he left such an impact on your life the is a good chance you did the same to him. I'm sure he would love to see you and catch up."
Walter sat there for a few more minutes and nodded "I think I'll go see him tomorrow do you mind keeping an eye on Abigail for me?" Paige with a huge smile on her face responded "Absolutely, I think her, Happy, Megan and myself are due for a girls day and Ralph, Toby and Sly can get their video game on." As Walter got up he leaned over and kissed her gently and said "Thank you, Love. Now let's go have some lunch."
The next morning after everyone showed up at the garage and started in on what they all needed to do Walter got went to Paige and gave her a kiss and let her know he was heading to the hospital. 15 minutes later he walked up to the front desk and asked the attendant what room Cabe was in. The attendant asked "What is your relationship to the patient?" Walter responded "He is my dad." Following the directions he got he entered a door and saw Cabe sleeping. A nurse was in there getting ready to take his vitals and asked "Can I help you with something?" Walter replied "I was just wanting to see how my dad was doing and visit with him for a bit." The nurse smiled and said "Perfect timing as soon as I take his BP, he will probably be waking up."
The nurse left while Walter sat near the foot of the bed and watched Cabe wake up. At first Cabe looked around confused on where he was and when he felt the pain he groaned and it all came back to him. He then did a double take and looked at Walter with surprise in his face. "Walter O'Brien do my eyes deceive me? What are you doing here and how did you know I was here?"
Walter answered "No you aren't seeing things I'm really here and I wanted to see you and I saw your name when I was here getting my daughter checked out." Cabe's eyes got even bigger "You have a daughter?" Walter chuckled "Yeah I have a daughter and a lot more. I have a girlfriend who has a son who is like my, and I met 3 others who are like me a little 2 men and 1 woman, and my sister is with us. My daughter, girlfriend and sister are all normals." Cabe nodded his head and said "That's wonderful, I'm glad you were able to find so many people to include in your family." Walter looked a little sheepish and looked down and said "Well, I was hoping to reconnect with the man who was like a father to me and maybe adopt a few more adult kids and maybe a couple of grandkids."
Cabe laid there completely shocked and with tears in his eyes said "I would love nothing more than to step in and fill that spot for you and everyone else son." Walter let out the breath he didn't realize he was holding and replied "Thank you so much dad and maybe we can all come over so you guys can meet and get to know each other." They spent the next few hours catching up until the doctor came in and told them that everything seems to be healing well no sign of infection and if all goes well Cabe can be discharged the day after tomorrow with the warning that he needs to take it easy. With that knowledge Walter suggested that tomorrow Cabe rests as much as possible tomorrow and Walter will pick him up the next day and bring him to the garage to meet everyone.
Everything went smoothly and once everyone had met the relationships started to form just as Walter had hoped, Cabe had filled in a fatherly role to all the geniuses, and he was a natural grandpa to Ralph and Abigail, with Megan it was more of an uncle/niece relationship as she had a good relationship with her mother and father and everyone else had fallen into an offspring role to Cabe. For everyone it seemed like they all had that large family connection the they all craved.
