Time. A funny thing it is.

You can easily lose track of it, you could also forget to set an alarm to remind of you of the time. The pattern in these actions is that the art of how to master them are frequently performed within my household. This is why I'm currently lying in bed wondering how one commits murder upon one's parents at 10:15am listening to the shouts of my hysterical Mum, telling me to (and I quote) 'get your arse out of that bed or my stiletto shall do it for you'.

Needless to say I was up and out of bed within a matter of seconds. Whilst my Dad probably wonders to himself how on earth did he get stuck in a house with not one, but three women, at the same time as moving his children's ridiculously heavy trunks to the car.

Hello, I'm Melissa Jones and this has been my life every September 1st for the last six years.

After I finally found my wand,(I lose things) I looked myself over in the mirror - moderately impressed with my attire.

I was wearing grey skinny jeans with my white Weird Sisters t-shirt, and my worn out, battered DMs hung from my feet.

I wasn't bad looking, and if you ignored my hair then you could say I was alright. You see, I have chestnut brown hair that my mum says goes a blonde colour when I've been in the sun for too long. The only major issue with it is that it's rather curly and can sometimes be a pain in arse, so I usually shove it in a ponytail and leave it at that.

I'm also a lamp post. But that is partly due to the fact that I'm 5'9.

Yep, I'm a sixteen year old girl who is taller than some of the professors at Hogwarts.

Oh I almost forgot, I attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I'm a sixth year Slytherin and proud of it, which is kind of surprising since I'm Muggleborn. I'm on the Slytherin Quidditch team as a chaser and I love it, we won the quidditch cup last year.

I left my room to answer nature's call, except when I got to the bathroom it was in use. I didn't even need to ask to know who's in there.

"Melody! Get out of the bathroom!" I shouted, pounding my fists against the door.

"I'm doing my makeup!" Came the reply, that suspiciously sounded as though she was doing her mascara.

Of fucking course you are.

"Well hurry up! I need the loo!" I yelled.

"Hold on!"

"Melody, get out of the bathroom! I am not having your sister piss on the carpet again!" Mum pitched in from downstairs.

Really Mum, that's what you decided to say.

I was three!

And desperate!

The door opened to reveal a perfectly made up seventeen year old girl with straight dirty blonde hair, sparkly dark blue eyes and a figure most girls would kill for.

Seriously, why did I get the short gene straw?

So if you hadn't already guessed this walking angel is my older Sister, Melody. Like me, she attends Hogwarts, except she's a seventh year Gryffindor and Head Girl this year no less. Honestly, wasn't she already perfect enough. She already had the looks, the smarts, she had have the popularity as well. So that just makes me Melody Jones's little sister. Great.

Once I had been to the bathroom I headed downstairs. Whilst on my way down I spotted my Mum standing by the open front door, I jumped, not expecting to see her, and promptly fell down the last few steps, only to fall on my arse. My Mum just laughed and shook her head at me, which was when my stomach grumbled from the lack of food.

"What, you think I'd let you go hungry?" She asked with a chuckle.

"No, I just didn't expect you to be stood by the door, toast in hand."

"Your Dad and Sister are already in the car." She said and held the toast out to me.

I grabbed the toast, kissed her on the cheek and hopped out the door and towards the car. I could practically hear the shake of her head that I knew would be accompanied with a smile.

It was 10:50am when we got to King Cross Station, we weaved in and out of all the muggles until we reached the barrier. And as I ran at the now very familiar wall, crossing over the line between the muggle world and the wizarding world, stepping into the hustle and bustle of Platform 9 and 1/3, I felt a particular feeling of joy overcome me.

Goodbyes are very short in our family, as nobody wants to acknowledge the fact that we won't see each other until Christmas. So as much as I hate to admit it, there were tears threatening to spill as I hugged my parents goodbye and gave a nod to my sister as we went our separate ways - her to find her friends and me to look for mine.

"Lissa!" Came a shout.

"Oh bloody hell." I muttered and braced myself for impact.

Sure enough, impact came in the form of one Dominique Weasley. Yep, that's right, my best friend in the whole fucking world is none other than Dominique Weasley. Now you might be thinking that how on earth did I, Melissa Jones, get Dominique Weasley for a best friend. I have no idea, but she has been for five years and don't think she's going anywhere anytime soon.

"I missed you so much!" She said with much more enthusiasm then someone should at nearly 11am.

"It's been two days, Dom." I said as I detached myself from her death grip.

"I know, but do you know how much shit I have had to put up with?" She complained.

"No, but I'm sure you'll tell me."

"My cousins are so annoying! Do you know what they did? They dyed my hair green and said that I was a Slytherin." She said in an offended tone.

"Hey, I'm a Slytherin." I huffed.

Oh yeah, Dom's in Gryffindor.

I suppose I should tell you a little bit about Dominique Weasley. First off, don't ever call her Dominique, unless you have an early death wish, if then feel free to do so. She is the daughter of Bill and Fleur Weasley, Harry Potter's niece and has more cousins than you can count on one hand (most of which go to Hogwarts). She is fluent in French (which is thanks to her Mum) that I have taken to learning the language just so I can understand Dom when she goes on a French rant. One other thing you need to know about Dom is that she is part Veela, which means she is a walking fucking Goddess, with her strawberry blonde hair and light blue eyes and has a temper that can quite literally and easily kill. Also every boy that isn't gay or related to her is in love with her and every girl is jealous of her.

"So am I." A new voice said.

Ugh. Why universe. Why.

"Um, that's rich, considering you were the one to dye my hair, Albus." Dom said, annoyed.

"You have got to be kidding me." I muttered, apparently not quiet enough as Albus turned towards me, smirking.

"Something wrong, Jones?" He asked.

I inhaled trying so hard not to say something that would aggravate him, no matter how much I wanted to.

"Now you've turned up?" I asked, he nodded, smirk still in place, I was going to give up then and say something rude but then I saw Dom's pleading look. "Nope, why'd you ask, Potter."

His eyebrows raised in surprise, as though he couldn't fathom that I was being civil towards him.

You see the thing with Albus and I is that we have sort of love hate relationship. One moment we're (sort of) nice to one another and the next we're at each other's throats.

The reason I hate him is because he's an egotistical arsehole, man whore. But the reason that I am currently playing nice is that he is my best friends cousin and Dom made me promise to be nice to him for the sake of everybody else's sanity. Something which is proving to be a lot more difficult than I previously thought.

Why, do I find this difficult I hear you ask?

Well it's because he's Albus Potter, youngest son of the Chosen One, AKA Harry fucking Potter, golden boy, Slytherin's star seeker and Hogwarts resident heartthrob next to his older brother James. Now I'd have to blind not to notice that Albus Potter was fit, but he wasn't so good looking to the point wear I dedicate everything I do and say to him. (*Cough* fangirls *cough*). He's just so sure of himself, he knows exactly what he's saying when he opens his mouth and constantly seems to think that the entire world revolves around him and his precious ego. Not to mention he has always wearing what I like to call the 'jerk smirk', his signature facial expression.

"No reason, just curious." He said, still with that damn smirk on his lips.

I wanted nothing more than to smack it right off his stupid perfect face. Just as I felt my hand moving, inching towards his face to do just that, Dom started pulling me towards the train as the final whistle went, waving a quick goodbye to Albus as she dragged me away from a situation, which mostly likely would've ended badly.

But for some reason, as we were making our way onto the train, I had this strange feeling that someone or something was watching me, but when I turned around there was no one there. So, I pushed the feeling to the back of my mind as I climbed aboard the Hogwarts Express.

Not 10 seconds later, it was pulling out of Kings Cross to the shouts of students saying their final goodbyes through compartment windows. A little over five minutes later, Dom and I found a compartment right at the end of the train, we sat down by the window opposite one another. We sat in silence for a few minutes, all of which Dom was wearing an expression of which meant she wanted to say something. Also she kept opening and closing her mouth like a goldfish, figuring out whether she should say something or not.

"Spit it out, Dom." I said, frustrated with the lack of noise which would always be present when with Dominique Weasley.

"I just don't understand why you can't just get along." She spoke, exasperated.

"Hey, I was civil wasn't I?" I asked.

"Yeah, but I saw the way your fist clenched and reached out as though you were going to slap him, or something!" Dom replied, throwing her arms in the air as she did so.

"Well, it's not my fault that he's that much of an arsehole that I want to slap that stupid smirk off his face is it?" I said annoyed.

Just as Dom was about to retort something that was likely to be dramatic, as that's just how things are with her, the compartment door slid open to reveal a certain redhead I had yet to see. Our previous discussion whittled away as I got up to hug my other best friend, but as I did so, I received a look from Dom that clearly said don't think this is the end of our conversation, knowing Dom she would corner me later.

"Rose!" I said as she released me.

"Lissa! Where have you guys been, I have been looking for you everywhere!" Rose said flustered as she sat down next to Dom.

"We have been in here since the train left the station Rose." Dom answered her question, back to her usually chirpy over dramatic self, the previous tension forgotten.

"Whatever, I've found you now. Lissa, I have so much to tell you, Dom already knows." She said excitedly.

Of course she does.

Don't get me wrong, I love how close they are it's just that when ever something goes on during breaks they are always the first to know, so, I suppose, I feel left out.

You're jealous too.

Oh shut up voice in the back of my head.

Actually, I guess the voice isn't wrong, I don't have a bond with any of my family members - except maybe my cousin, Marcus.

So, I swallowed my unkind thoughts and listened to what Rose was currently spewing out of her mouth at several miles per hour.

"So, Scorpius and I were arguing and suddenly, we're snogging against the wall." She paused waiting for my reaction.

To which I just sat there with wide eyes and my jaw practically on the floor. I mean everybody knew that Rose and a certain Malfoy liked each other, even though they argue on a regular basis. But snogging against the wall, I just thought one of them might finally admit their feelings to each other - though I suppose that's one way to do it.

You see Rose Weasley is your classic 'beauty and brains' kind of girl. She's absolutely gorgeous with her flaming red hair, soft brown eyes, tall, slim figure and subtle curves. Not to mention she has got to be the smartest girl in our year hands down, and she inherited the famous Weasley temper, meaning she may look sweet but she can hex you into the next fucking century if your not careful.

Everybody knows about the Weasley Malfoy feud, so to hear that her and a certain Scorpius Malfoy had fucking snogged her, of all things, is quite a big. Not that I hadn't anticipated this would happen,(it was bound to happen at some point) but it's still a shocker. Especially since Rose is a Gryffindor and Scorpius a Slytherin like me.

I don't have any idea how I got two Gryffindors as my best friends.

"Holy shit! Finally!" I shouted jumping up from my seat and doing some sort of weird happy dance. Dom laughed at my antics, telling me to sit down as I was embarrassing, whilst Rose just sat there contemplating what I said. After I had finished my impromptu dance session I sat down, slightly out of breath.

"Wait, what do mean 'finally'?" She asked genuinely confused, to which Dom snorted.

"Oh Rosie, sweet and innocent Rosie," Dom paused for dramatic affect "You and Scorpius have been in love for years."

If there was one thing Dominique Weasley couldn't do, it was subtlety. I love Dom but sometimes she's too blunt for her own good. Poor rose was having a hard time grasping the concept that I wasn't surprised about her snog session with her supposed enemy, let alone the obvious fact that she had been in love with said enemy for years.

"Oh. My. God." She finally said as she realised that what we had been saying for years was indeed true.

"Wait. You didn't tell me if he asked you out or not. Did he?" Dom questioned eagerly.

Dominique Weasley was always one for gossip, believe me.

"Um, he may or may not have asked me to be his girlfriend. And I um, may or may not have said yes." She said, blushing profusely. At this Dom and I erupted into shrieks of joy and piled on top of Rose whilst saying congratulations.

Once Dom and I gave Rose some room to breathe the compartment door opened again to reveal the Trolley Lady, to which we all stood up and approached her as she asked her all too familiar question. After we had payed for our sweets we sat back down and promptly fell back into the weird and wonderful way of our friendship, talking all about what we did this summer. I contributed to the conversation on several occasions but didn't really have anything to say as my summer was mostly uneventful, whilst simultaneously ignoring the growing migraine in the back of my head.

It wasn't till a couple hours later when we had finished all our sweets and the wrappers thrown about, that the the compartment door slid open for the third time this train ride. I inwardly groaned as I realised who was at the door, Dom sent me a look warning me to behave and Rose blushed the colour of tomatoes.

"Rose! There you are!" Said a very flustered Scorpius Malfoy, whose normally neat bleach blonde hair was sticking up in all directions as he closed the distance between him and Rose, and encased her in what looked like a bone crushing hug.

Scorpius Malfoy is the now Captain and keeper of the Slytherin Quidditch team and took it very seriously - which would be why he is well built and had insane reflexes. It was odd to see him be so affectionate, especially towards Rose of all people, but it was also endearing. You know when you just look at two people and think that they're made for each other, that's what you thought when you looked at Rose and Scorpius.

They fit together like two pieces of a puzzle.

"I've been here the whole time Scorp." Rose said weakly as she struggled to speak through his tight embrace, she didn't really seem to mind, in actuality she most likely was jumping for joy that Scorp was showing any affection towards her in public.

"Rose" Scorpius said cautiously once he'd released her, "you missed the prefects meeting."

Ah yes, Rose Weasley was indeed a prefect and no doubt up for head girl next year.

"How long do you think it'll be till she realises what he just said and freaks out." Whispered a voice I knew all to well in my ear.

I didn't want to admit that it sent a shiver down my spine.

I turned my head to look at Albus who's eyebrows were raised as though he thought I hadn't heard him. I looked at Rose who was staring at Scorpius as though he had just sprouted an extra head and then to Dom who was silently filing her nails in the corner, completely oblivious as to what was going on around her, in her own little world.

"Three minutes." I said startling Albus who obviously thought I was ignoring him.

"Wanna bet? Two minutes." He thought for a second before continuing. "Two galleons." He said hand outstretched, the jerk smirk firmly planted on his lips.

"You're on." I answered, shaking his hand.

Sure enough, three minutes later Rose had finally registered what had been said and was now getting up to talk to the heads about the meeting, Scorpius following a few steps behind. Whilst Albus reluctantly handed me over 2 Galleons grumbling about how on earth I did that. It was shocking how quickly we became civil and that I didn't want to hit him as much as I did earlier.

All of a sudden my growing migraine grew extremely rapidly, I winced and put my hand to my head breathing in and out to try stop the pain that was so intense that I was beginning to see black spots. I mustn't of been as discreet as I thought as I turned my head at the sound of his voice, which did not help with the pain.

"You okay?" He asked.

What surprised me me was the sincerity in the way he said it and the genuine concern that shone through his piercing emerald eyes, which I seemed to be falling into the more I stared into his intense gaze. Eventually, I looked away, the strange electricity I got when I met his stare still running through my veins.

"Yeah, just a headache. I think I just need to sleep off the sweets." I answered.

"If your sure." He said.

When I forced myself to look at him again he was studying my face and once I dared to look into his eyes the electricity was back, they still seemed concerned, but disbelieving as though he didn't quite believe me when I said I was okay.

The sheer intensity of the emotions within his gaze were enough to make me turn away and face the window, leaning back in my seat and allowing sleep to over take me.

When I opened my eyes I was being awoken by Albus. When I looked out the window, I realised that we were in Hogsmeade Station meaning that I had slept for a good two hours. What was even better was that my migraine was completely gone leaving no lingering ache, as though it had never been there in the first place. I would've thought that given the chance to think that I would be preoccupied with the feeling I had at Kings Cross but no.

The entire ride up to the castle I only had one thought.

Home Sweet Home
