Chapter 5

Hinata held her head up while Naruto was rubbing the ointment around her bruised eye. The swelling went down somewhat, and her skin color was slowly making its way back. "Your eye is getting better," Naruto said quietly.

"Thank you," Hinata replied. She couldn't help but stare into his blue eyes that was focus on her skin. There were so many mixed emotions coming from them: Sadness. Anger. Pain. She noticed his cheeks turning red. "Sir, are you okay? Are you feeling ill?"

"I'm fine," He mumbled under his breath. After applying the ointment, he closed the cap and placed it on the top of the brown dresser.

"Thank you, sir," Hinata said, standing up. "But I can always put the ointment on myself. I would hate to be a burden,"

"You're more troublesome than a burden, Hinata,"

She bowed, "I'm sorry,"

"Can you make me some ramen, miso pork?" He asked.

"Sir, is ramen your favorite food?" Hinata asked, tilting her head to the side.

"It is," Naruto hummed.

Hinata nodded. "I'll remember that."

"I'll check on Konohamaru," Naruto said, making his way to the opened door.

"Oh, I can do that for you, sir," Hinata said.

"It isn't necessary." He said, walking away from her.

Hinata pouted as she watched the young master walk away. "He's acting like I can't multi-task," She sighed. As she walked out of the room, she heard the doorbell ringing. She paused and broke out in a cold sweat as last night's event flooded her memory. The doorbell kept ringing, and Hinata felt the room spin momentarily.

She shook her head and took a deep breath as she approached the door. It was her duty, and she couldn't let anything stop her from fulfilling her task. Hinata looked through the peephole and saw her old master standing outside. She opened the door just a little, "Good morning, Madam Saya,"

The woman looked at Hinata, and her eyes widened at the sight of her face. "I heard what happened to my nephew. Is he okay?" There was a concerned look on her face.

Hinata nodded. "He's fine."

"I sent you here to take care of him, but here you are, causing him problems," She said, belittling the girl. "I heard it was your fault. What were you thinking?" She scolded her. "Naruto could have been killed!"

Hinata looked down and took a deep breath. She knew that. Although Naruto told her not to worry about it, Hinata knew she was causing him trouble. He could have been killed. It was a tally of five men and only one of him. She licked her dry lips and took in every insult Saya could throw at her.

"I want to see my nephew," She said as she tried to walk in. She arched her eyebrow once she noticed Hinata didn't move.

"I'm sorry, Madam Saya, but at this time, I can't let you in," Hinata said, avoiding her scary eyes.

"Excuse me?" She was taken back. "How dare you stopped me from seeing my nephew? Who gave you that order?"

Hinata felt her heart skipped a beat when she felt somebody hovering over her. The door opened a little wider until they're bodies were in view.

"Nephew!" Saya said.

"I did," Naruto said. "I told her not to let you in." There was an annoyed expression on his face.

Saya's smile dropped upon hearing that. "Is that so?"

"How can I help you?" asked Naruto.

"I wanted to see you. I heard what happened," Saya said, glaring at Hinata. "Maybe you should let her go, Naru-chan. She's stirring the pot and has cost you nothing but misfortune. I heard the other day she told the girls at the tea party that you two were having sex and how you are going to court her." Saya took out a little green fan and began to fan herself.

Hinata opened her mouth to say something, but Naruto stopped her. "I'm not letting Hinata go anywhere. And what you hear are nothing but rumors, and even if they were true, that's none of your concern," He raised his eyebrow slightly. "Leave my premises as I am trying to have breakfast. Now!" He snarled.

Saya was taken back by the hostility in his voice. "Naruto, I am your family. You shouldn't treat me so harshly," She said in a sad voice. "I promised your mother I would take care of you when she died, and I'm not about to let this little whore get in the way of that."

Naruto narrowed his eyes. "Shut up." He said coldly. Hinata shivered slightly by his chilling tone. "Leave my sight now!"

Saya scoffed. "I am your auntie, but I will leave for now. I still love you and want the best for you. I will continue to check on you when I feel something isn't right, Naru-chan." She turned her back on him and left his presence.

Naruto slammed the door, and Hinata turned around and bowed. "I'm sorry," Her voice cracked.

"Don't listen to her or them, okay? You're not causing me any problems."

Naruto turned around and saw Hinata wiping something from her eyes. "I'm always causing you trouble," She whispered, "Maybe I should leave?"

Naruto gripped the hold on her cheeks, which startled Hinata, and he quickly sighed. "If you leave, you can take Konohamaru with you, or I'll kick him out."

"But, sir!" Hinata shouted.

He crossed his arms and stuck his nose in the air. "It's your choice, Hinata. But just think about it. After the boy risked his life to save you and you just get up and leave. Surely, he will be heartbroken. Who knows? He may even die from a broken heart." Hinata shook her head, and Naruto gazed at her and smirked. "Now that that's settled let's go eat."

As the two were walking to the dining room, Hinata paused. "Oh, sir!" She ran in front of him and bowed.

Naruto looked at her awkwardly.

Hinata gazed at him and smiled slightly. "Happy Birthday! Saya had called me to pick up a cake and a present for you before the incident," She whispered. "I'm sorry I didn't know any sooner as I would have gotten you something."

Naruto cocked his head to the side. "Hinata, my birthday isn't until October."

"October? That's in the next few months!" She said, astonished.

"Yup,"

"Which date?" She replied eagerly.

"October 10th," He walked in front of her to head to the dining room.

Konohamaru was waiting by the door and wagged his imaginary tail when they came back.

After the trio had eaten, both Konohamaru and Hinata departed to the garden to tend to the flowers, despite Naruto's better judgment.

"We'll be fine," Konohamaru reassured the worried man.

Hinata nodded in agreement. "Sir, work still needs to be done, regardless of our condition. We'll be okay," She added on.

He turned around and nodded. "Keep a sharp eye out for Hinata, Konohamaru,"

"Yes, sir!" He said, saluting the man.

Throughout the day, Naruto looked out his window that led into the garden and watched the two. His eyes lingered to the young maid, and he sighed. Why did she have to be so troublesome? Is what he thought. He then crossed his arms. "She can be so selfish at times," He pouted, unintentionally, "Why would she want to leave after all the trouble she's caused me?" His crystal blue eyes continued to watch the girl's movement, and he nearly jumped from his seat when she fell on the grass.

Hinata got up and giggled at Konohamaru, who was trying to help her up. It eased his heart, and he sat back down.

Naruto raced downstairs to answer the door as he heard someone pounding viciously on it. With great force, he swung the door opened and saw his two female friends staring worriedly at him. Before he could say a word, he was bombarded with questions.

"Are you okay?" Sakura quickly said as she checked him over.

"I hope you didn't get hurt!" Ino clasped her hands.

"Aunt Saya told us what happened." The pinkette said.

"Why would they do something like that?" Ino cried.

"Is Hinata okay!" They both said, staring frantically at him. "Where's Hinata?" They said simultaneously.

"Hinata is fine," He mumbled under his breath, "please come back another time as she is recovering."

"Recovering?" Sakura's eyes widened slightly.

"That means something happened to her!" Ino growled. "Where is she?"

"Hinata doesn't need visitors!" Naruto fought back.

Sakura puffed her cheeks and stomped her feet childishly. "Not this time! We want to see Hinata. Now!"

Naruto was taken back by the anger in her voice. "Look, Hinata doesn't need any visitors, okay? She's been through so much as it is. I-

"Hinata!" Sakura called, pushing Naruto out of the way as she forced her way into his house.

Before he could react, Ino glared at him, which made him close his mouth. "Hinata!" Ino called out.

He sighed in defeat as he closed the door. "Hinata is in the garden!" The two of them would cause havoc in his house, and he didn't want Hinata to add more work to her health.

Sakura pushed the brown door opened and ran outside to the garden they used to play in when they were younger. "Hinata!" She yelled when she saw the girl sitting on the stoned bench.

Hinata's head snapped up when she heard Sakura calling out to her. "Lady Sakura!" She got up and bowed. Hinata yelped when Sakura wrapped her arms around her and embraced her. "Lady Ino!" Hinata said when the girl emerged from out of nowhere.

"We were so worried about you," Sakura cried.

"Huh?" Hinata felt something wet on the side of her neck. 'Is she crying?'

Ino stared wide eye at Hinata, and her eyes stung before she started crying. "Hinata!" Ino wailed while hugging the girl. "W-why would they do something like that?"

Hinata felt her eyes watered, and she cried loudly with the two. Konohamaru ran outside, as he had just come from using the bathroom, saw Hinata crying, and two girls were holding her. He went to approach them, but he felt someone grip his shoulder.

"She's okay," Konohamaru's eyes lingered towards Hinata, worriedly. "Let's see if any of my clothes can fit you,"

"Yes, sir…" He mumbled as he turned to follow the blond man into the house.

After the three calmed down, they sat on the stone bench and stayed quiet for a while. Sakura was shocked once noticing Hinata's face. Hinata's eye was swollen shut, and her lips were red and bruised, and the side of her cheek was bruised and turning purple.

"I'm sorry," Hinata said, catching the attention of Ino and Sakura. "It's my fault, and Naruto could have been killed. Please don't be mad at me," Her eyes watered again.

"Mistakes happen, Hinata," Sakura said. "And don't worry too much about Naruto. He can hold his weight."

When Sakura said that, Hinata remembered the bloodstains on his clothes.

"What exactly happened?" Ino said, eyeing her.

Hinata poked her index fingers together, and she told them the whole story. There was a moment of silence, and Ino sighed. "Hinata, it isn't your fault. Anyone of us would have done the same thing,"

Hinata stared at her. "Really?"

Sakura nodded. "Of course! You did what you thought was right. It's only a woman's nature to tend and care for others," She rested her hand on Hinata's shoulder. "How is Naruto treating you?"

"If he does anything to you, let me know, and I'll take care of him for you," Ino added. "He can be a real scrooge," She said, crossing her arms.

"No- no, he's been very nice and even wanted me to take off from doing work," Hinata frowned, cutely, "My hands and feet are still working," She grumbled.

Ino gasped. "Really? That doesn't sound like little Naruto," She hummed.

"Maybe he's growing up and realizing how a young woman should be treated," Sakura giggled.

"Ne, when is he going to get married?" Ino chatted.

"He's so wild and reckless with his life," Sakura frowned, "I'll feel sorry for whoever marries him. It's like he just wants to get himself kill,"

"What do you mean?" Hinata inquired.

"You can't tell my mother this, but usually Sasuke, him and I would go to the outskirts of Konoha when summoned to help Tsunade with the poor. There are so many bandits out there, and he just throws his life recklessly into the gunshots!" She fapped her arms back and forth.

"If he keeps that up, there won't be anybody left from the Namikaze clan," Ino replied.

Hinata looked down and saw a red ladybug sitting on the top of the green grass. "Saya came by earlier and mentioned Naruto's mother was dead… is his father dead too?"

"Yeah… Naruto doesn't like to talk about it." Ino said. "They were so young too,"

"How did they die? Was it the war?"

"Naruto's father died in the war, and his mother fell sick after and died. They said she had tuberculous, but nobody knows what sickness she had." Sakura told her.

"That's sad," Hinata muttered under her breath. 'He lost someone precious to him in the war too. I'm sure he hurts every time I bring it up,'

"Hey! Sakura, didn't you bring some cream for Naruto?" Ino said once noticing Hinata's saddened face.

"I did it!" She said, digging into a little pouch, hanging from the obi of her kimono. She pulled out a small brown jar and held it up for everyone to see. "I made Naruto some cream just in case there were any scars."

Hinata's eyes looked over the jar. "That's nice of you, Sakura!" She said in awe. Sakura grinned at the praise.

"I want to be a doctor just like Tsunade-sama!"

"That's if your mom lets you," Ino brushed her off.

"Who cares!"

"That's nice, Lady Sakura," Hinata smiled. "I believe in you,"

Sakura couldn't help but blush. "Thank you, Hinata, and please call me Sakura,"

"Sorry,"

"But I whiffed up this cream to help with blemishes and scaring! Would you like to try some?"

"Sure,"

Sakura dabbed her finger into the jar and spread some of it on Hinata's swollen eye. She jumped a little but relaxed once she felt a cooling sensation set in her skin.

"Did you put manning leaves in it?" Hinata asked.

"How did you know?" Sakura said astounded.

Hinata played with her index fingers as her eyes focus on the sharp blade of the grass moving slightly by the wind. "My mother used to make ointments and creams…" Her voice softened. "She had a whole book of the different plants you can use to get better."

Sakura's eyes widened. "Seriously? Is it true the Hyugas had the largest library in Konoha?"

Hinata nodded proudly. "We did!" She said in awe. "We had so many books and scrolls that were passed down from generation to generation,"

"My father told me that," Ino said, as her eyes lingered to the sky, "I heard there were even stories about Princess Kaguya."

"Have you ever seen the library, Hinata?"

"Papa! Papa! Please take Neji-nii and me to the library,"

"Not now, hime. Your father is very busy today,"

"Hinata," Sakura said, placing her hand on the top of the girl's shoulder.

"Oh, sorry," Hinata laughed nervously. "I have, and I've been in it a few times," She mumbled.

"There may be some remedies in there that can fight off sickness," Sakura's eyes sparkled.

"Hey, Hinata," Ino's voice softened, "did you ever go back…?"

Sakura's eyes lowered. A part of her felt selfish because they were probably bringing up memories Hinata was perhaps trying to forget.

Hinata shook her head. "No… no, I haven't."

"Ne, Hinata," Sakura's eyes sparkled, "when you're all better, let's go to the beach before winter comes!"

"The beach?" Hinata muttered. "I don't know how to swim,"

"We can teach you!" Both Ino and Sakura said grinning.

Hinata gazed at the two and covered her mouth before giggling. "Hai, hai."

Konohamaru watched from the outside window at Hinata, who was laughing. He couldn't help but blush because she was indeed a beautiful girl. He had yet to meet a lovely girl- her skin was pale and soft to touch, and she had long black hair that resembled the night sky. And her eyes- big and round, yet they held so many emotions, and one of them was compassion.

He sighed once more, which caught Naruto's attention. "What's the matter?"

Konohamaru jumped as he had forgotten his master was in the room with him. He shook his head quickly and walked over to Naruto, who was looking through some papers on the desk.

"Sir, is there anything you need me to do?"

"Not at this moment, but keep an eye on Hinata," Naruto told him as he briefly gazed at him, "As you can see, she can be stubborn at times, and I am afraid she won't tell me if she's feeling ill."

"I'll keep an eye on her!" He replied with determination. "Hinata is kind and sweet and deserves the whole world, sir." His voice became timid. "Don't you think so?"

Silence overcame the room, and Naruto hadn't said a word. Instead, he just continued to look through the papers without any real direction. Konohamaru thought he had said something wrong.

"Konohamaru, please bring me some water," Naruto commanded.

"Yes, sir," Konohamaru replied bowing.

He rushed downstairs, closing the door behind him. Once he was gone, Naruto placed the papers to the table and stared blankly at the closed door. "Hinata is kind and sweet and deserves the whole world, sir." He rose slowly and walked towards the window.

Hinata was smiling brightly as Sakura whispered something in her ear. His fingertip touched the warm glass, and then he suddenly jumped back when the door creaked opened.

"Master, I have your glass of water!" Konohamaru shouted. He stared at his master, oddly, and placed the water on top of the table. "Is there anything else?"

Naruto cleared his throat. "No," He mumbled. "But, we'll need to get you some outfits as seeing mine are too big for you."

Konohamaru's wiped his eyes are big tear droplets began to form. "You're so kind!" He reached out to Naruto and wrapped his arm around his waist. Naruto stared down at the boy and twisted his face.

"Men don't cry," Naruto stated sharply.

"But I can't help it," His voice muffled. "You're the second kindest person I've met ever since my parents died."

Naruto sighed softly.

Sakura and Ino stared at the scruffy young boy, who was trembling slightly. The girls, though beautiful, intimidated him. There was a strong aura surrounding them.

"You hired another help," Ino said.

"Our little Naru-chan's house is filling up again," Sakura said, clasping her hands together. "Aren't you a cutie," She said, pinching the boy's cheeks.

"He's short for his age," Ino remarked.

This struck a nerve. "I'm still growing!" Konohamaru barked.

"Konohamaru!" Hinata scolded him. "I'm sorry… Ino. He's still learning."

Ino giggled. "It's okay, Hinata."

Sakura held Hinata's hand and smiled brightly that it warmed Hinata's spirit. "Let's hang out again, okay?"

"If it's not a problem with Naruto," The group then stared at the young man who seemed lost. "I should go ahead and prepare supper."

Sakura nodded. "We'll see you later," She yelled out.

"Konohamaru, assist Sakura and Ino with their walk home," Naruto commanded.

Konohamaru nodded his head like a wild animal. "Yes, sir!" He said, saluting the man.

Both Ino and Sakura giggled at the energetic boy.

"Hinata, Konohamaru, I need you two to accompany me to a friend's place," Naruto said as he cut through the eggs.

Hinata was self-conscious about going outside. She didn't find herself to be attractive, but she didn't want to turn heads when people saw her unsightly bruises.

"Don't worry. We won't be out long," Naruto reassured her after noticing the look her face.

"Yes, sir." She mumbled.

Konohamaru put on the white long sleeve white shirt that was given to him by Naruto. It was a little loose on him as Naruto was a little bigger than him.

He felt more like a father than a master. But he couldn't help but smile, just briefly that is. These two were causing him problems, not that he minded. It made his boring life a little more adventurous.

Hinata hanged her head in shame as they walked down the road. A little gust of wind blew some dirt past them, and Hinata held her long hair from flying in her face. She placed her hand over her eyes as she felt a sharp pain caused by the wind.

The walk was a little distance from Naruto's house, and they even had to past Sakura's house to get to his friend's house.

"Who is this friend, sir?" Konohamaru asked.

"His name is Inuzuka Kiba," Naruto told him. He glanced over his shoulder and saw Hinata, who was a little far from them. "Hinata, I need you to pick up the pace!" He called out as he waited for the girl to catch up to them.

Konohamaru looked over her shoulder and saw Hinata running towards them. He quickly turned around and blushed.

Hinata placed her hands on her knees and panted slightly. "I'm sorry sir,"

"I need you by my side, always," Naruto said.

Hinata nodded while she tried to match Naruto's walking pace. After a while, they finally made it to a small wooden traditional Japanese house. Hinata paused for a moment as the memories flooded her mind. It reminded her of the place she grew up in.

"Let's go," Naruto said as they made their way into the Inuzuka residence. They followed him behind the house and saw a larger red shack tucked in the corner a little distance from the main house.

"Yo!" Naruto said, signaling his friend down who was putting away a few horses into a red shack.

A tanner skin man glanced over his shoulder and saw his friend along with two other people approaching him. He grinned as he let go of the horse's bridle.

"Hey! How did you know I was back?" Kiba said, walking up to him.

"Sasuke told me," He shrugged.

The grass tickled her feet, and Hinata looked down, and she chewed her bottom lip.

"Good morning, sir!" Konohamaru said enthusiastically as he bowed. He quickly stood up and held his side

"Baka! Be careful!" Naruto yelled as he faced the boy.

Kiba stifled a laugh at the young boy. He glanced over to the quiet girl, and she felt all eyes on her.

"Hinata," Naruto said,

Hinata bowed, and whispered, "Good day, sir," She looked up at the young momentarily and saw his facial expression went from happy to disgust. She felt her eyes watered, but she quickly jumped back when Kiba punched Naruto on the cheek.

The boy fell back on his bottom and held his cheek. "What the hell!" He snarled at Kiba, who was as panting heavily.

"I know you have your problems, but I can't let a friend get around thinking he can hit on a woman!" Kiba clenched his fist.

"Mister, you've got it all wrong!" Konohamaru said, trying to defuse the situation.

Kiba arched his eyebrow as he watched the young woman help his long-time friend up. Naruto spat on the floor and saw some blood lying on the grass. He held his cheek and eyed Kiba down.

"Naruto didn't do this, sir!" Hinata stood up as she defended her master.

Kiba was taken back. 'Naruto?' He thought to himself.

He eyed the young girl and then his friend, who was dusting some grass from his slacks.

"I should kick your ass," Naruto said as he wiped his cheek, "but I will have to postpone it for some other time." He clicked his tongue.

"Then what happened to her face?" Kiba pointed out.

Hinata looked down. "Some men attacked her, and the young master saved her!" Konohamaru boasted.

"Men?"

"Yeah, they ambushed her and tried to rob my place," Naruto said, slightly irritated.

Kiba was surprised. "They tried to rob you. When did this happen?"

"A week ago," Naruto replied.

"Well, gee, Naruto. How could you let somebody do this to your woman?" Kiba said, irritated. He would have killed any man that dare lay their fingers on his property. Hinata blushed deeply.

Naruto cleared his throat. "This is my maid, Hinata," Naruto introduced. "And the boy here is my butler in training, Konohamaru." Naruto placed his hand on Hinata's shoulder. "They attacked her when I was out with Sasuke. The bastards were probably watching for some time, but," His grip tightened on Hinata's shoulder, "they won't be a problem anymore."

Konohamaru swiftly turned to his master when he heard those chilling words. Hinata was clueless, continued to stare down at her feet.

Kiba eyed him momentarily and bowed. "Ne, sorry about decking you," He scratched his cheek. "So, what brings you here?"

"I won't be able to stay around every second of the day, and I need something that's going to guard my house for her and his protection," Naruto responded in a monotone voice. "preferably one of your guard dogs?" He arched his blonde eyebrow.

Hinata's heartbeat quickly. 'He's getting a guard dog to protect us?'

There was a slight irritation visibly noticeable on his face. "They're all gone," He snarled. He came home and was told by his beloved mother that they had sold the guard dogs he breeds and trains. The only ones he had left were the mother and father dogs.

"What do you mean? You had a whole thirty before leaving!"

"My mother sold them to one of the generals. I didn't know they were going to buy them." Kiba threw his arms in the air. "Do you know how hard we worked to train those dogs on commands?"

"Why would the general need all those guard dogs?" Konohamaru questioned. "That's kind of strange."

Naruto's eyes squinted, which Kiba noticed. Hinata quickly noticed the look Naruto and Kiba exchanged.

"I see," Naruto hummed. "It's a shame because I wanted one,"

Kiba scoffed. "They would have done a number on anyone," He smiled proudly. "All I have are the cute adorable ones Hana was raising. They aren't a fighter, and I don't want to waste your time dealing with them,"

Naruto looked over to Hinata, whose eyes were sparkling, and her hands were clasped together. Kiba also noticed and chuckled. "Do you want to see them?" He urged.

She glanced at Naruto for approval, and he heaved a heavy sigh. "Sure," He mumbled.

Kiba led them through the red shack, and Hinata glanced at the horses in their stable. "They look so well kept and clean," Hinata said.

Kiba smiled. He took pride in his work and boasted anywhere he went. He was an animal whisperer, especially when it came to dogs. "Thanks!"

Hinata and Konohamaru stopped in their tracks when they felt the ground shake under them.

"An earthquake?" Hinata said.

Both Kiba and Naruto laughed. Konohamaru let out a terrible scream and hid quickly behind Hinata as he saw a gigantic beast approaching them with quick speed. Hinata's eyes bulged out of her head when she saw an enormous white creature standing at the end of the barn. She stepped back when it growled and began barking. It stepped closer and closer until they got a quick glimpse at it.

Hinata let out a shriek as the beast lunged at her.

"Akamaru! Sit!" Kiba shouted.

The beast quickly sat down and stared at Hinata. Konohamaru peeped his head from behind Hinata and saw big black eyes piercing his soul. Its brown snout wiggled, and he let out a big yawn.

"I-is, this a dog?" Hinata stammered. She had never seen such a vast thing in her life. It was taller and bigger than her.

Kiba approached the dog and rubbed behind his ear. "Yup, this is Akamaru. I've had him since I was young."

Konohamaru trembled. "It's kind of big. You sure it's a dog?"

Kiba laughed louder. "Of course! He's my best friend too! A good killer," He grinned, showing his razor-sharp teeth. "Akamaru doesn't listen to anybody except me," Kiba said, pointing to himself.

Hinata gazed at the dog, and she blushed. She outstretched her hand to feel his fur.

"If you value your hand, I won't do that if I were you," Naruto said, crossing his arms.

Hinata quickly held her hands and gulped. Akamaru circled Hinata and Konohamaru.

"What is he doing?" Konohamaru said in a trembling voice.

Kiba shrugged. "He may just kill ya," He grinned.

"Stop scaring them, Kiba." Naruto sighed.

Akamaru sniffed Konohamaru and bark like he was giving his approval. He then sniffed Hinata and licked her cheek.

"Looks like you pass the test. He likes ya," Kiba grinned mischievously.

"A t-t-test!" Konohamaru replied shakenly.

"Why don't I show you those puppies!" Kiba winked at them.

"I've heard there's a lot of things going wrong in Suna," Kiba said. He and Naruto were sitting on the patio while Hinata and Konohamaru were playing with the pups, and Akamaru watched them.

"Her sister sent a letter say a man was killed because he spoke ill out the Kazekage."

Kiba shook his head. "Yeah, it's true. I've seen a lot and heard so many things while I was in Suna, traveling." He shook his head. "It doesn't look good. I truly believe there's going to be another war."

"Is it because of Danzo?" Naruto asked. His eyes lingered to Hinata, who was rubbing Akamaru's stomach.

"I heard he's not doing his part in the deal," Kiba muttered. "We can't afford to go to war again."

Naruto sighed. "I agree, my friend. A lot of our neighbors are still in bad shape, and he's not helping."

Kiba frowned. "He's keeping us behind so we can't rebel. The world is growing out there, and we're still behind!"

"I know. I know."

Kiba's frowned deepened. "That's why I say we overthrow him! Everyone is too busy living their lives, and they can't see the bigger picture. How could they be okay about what's going on?" Naruto nodded in agreement. "I'm serious, Naruto. We can't have him screwing up the next generation."

"I know. They're just afraid to say something. You know how senile that man is." Naruto looked around to make sure no one was listening. "I heard he had his advisor killed just because of a disagreement they had regarding sakes."

Kiba let out a loud sigh. "A lot of people are going to die if we have war again, and the Kazekage in Suna is just as senile." He plucked a piece of grass from the side of the steps. "They can't find his son."

"The Kazekage's son is missing?" Naruto's eyes widened.

"It's the rumors that have been going around there. They probably had him killed so he couldn't take over." Kiba replied.

"I see." Naruto hummed.

"Just be careful, Kiba. You're a hothead, and you don't think before you speak." Naruto scolded. "You know you'll be killed if you speak about this in public."

Kiba fanned him off. "I know. I know. But I'll let Itachi know what's going on doing our next meeting."

Naruto nodded. "Sounds like a good idea." Naruto stood up and brushed the dirt from his knickers. "Hinata! Konohamaru!" He called out. "Let's go!"

"I'm surprised you got a maid and a butler. Doesn't sound like you." Kiba smirked. "She's a pretty thang,"

Naruto rolled his eyes at his womanizing friend. "The girl was given to me by my aunt, and the boy found his way to us."

"Aunt Saya?" Kiba said.

"Yeah, I don't know what for. She can be so troublesome."

"Just be safe, Naruto. Akamaru does not trust her, and a dog's intuition is always correct." Kiba said, placing his hand on Naruto's shoulder.

"Yeah, I know," Naruto said. "Trust me. I know."

"Sir!" Hinata said, running up to Naruto. "Isn't he cute!" She held her up a small white dog.

Naruto stared at the pup, disgusted. "Yeah," He said sarcastically. "It sure is cute." Kiba couldn't but laugh when looking at his friend's face.

Hinata pouted. "It's so adorable," She said, holding the pup to her face. The little dog licked her nose, and she giggled softly.

Konohamaru soon approached them with Akamaru following behind him. "How can I get a dog like Akamaru, sir?"

Kiba let out a hearty laugh. "He's the only one left from his kind, kid."

Hinata handed Kiba the little pup and stood by Naruto's side. "Thank you for letting me play with them. They're adorable."

"Maybe Naruto may consider buying one for you," Kiba grinned at Naruto, who shot him a glare.

"I think not. If it doesn't guard the house, we don't need it." Naruto crossed his arms.

Hinata smiled softly.

The afternoon sun was setting, and the trio walked down the path to Naruto's house. "I'll have somebody come tomorrow to measure you, Konohamaru."

"Thank you, sir!" Konohamaru shouted.

His face was burning because he was doing a lot of smiling. Things were looking good, and the master was very kind to him, and Hinata. He did mean it. She deserved the world because if it weren't for her and her kindness, he would be dead.

"Hinata, why does the master leave late at night at times?" Konohamaru asked when he and Hinata were alone.

"What do you mean?" Hinata responded while wiping down the countertop.

The two were inside the kitchen cleaning up before bedtime.

"I've noticed on certain days he leaves late at night and doesn't come home until early morning." Konohamaru pointed out. "Haven't you noticed?"

Hinata paused and shook her head. "No, I haven't." She then frowned. "Konohamaru, it's wrong to spy on the master. You can get seriously punished if he finds out."

Konohamaru jumped from the tool and fanned Hinata off. "The master wouldn't lay a hand on us, and I wasn't spying. I was just... observing," He grinned. "But aren't you a little curious about him?"

Hinata glanced over her shoulder at Konohamaru. "No,"

Konohamaru crossed his arms. "It isn't good to tell stories, Hinata. But I'll admit I am quite curious about him. He's such a mystery."

"Konohamaru," Hinata warned, "it doesn't do good snooping on him."

"I know. I know, but in a sense, we know nothing about him." He pointed out. "You've been working for him for almost five months, and you've mean to tell me that you're not curious about him?"

Hinata sighed. "A little, but it isn't our business."

He placed his arms in the back of his head. "I know, I know. I'm sorry," Once he noticed the girl was visibly upset. "I won't bring it up anymore."

"Hinata," Naruto said, walking into the kitchen. "Please run me my bath,"

"Yes, sir," Hinata said, following Naruto to the bathroom.

Konohamaru sighed. "Why can't he take his own bath?" He questioned loudly. "A young woman like Hinata shouldn't see any man naked unless it's her husband." He gazed at the brown door and sighed once more.

He knew he was silly, and there were so many things he needed to learn, but Hinata didn't deserve this. He was serious when he told Naruto Hinata deserved the world. The young woman was very kind and honest. Hopefully, she'll find somebody willing to show her that.

Hinata wiped the nape of Naruto's neck, and her mind wandered back to what Konohamaru was saying. She hadn't realized Naruto left late only to come back early morning. What could he possibly be doing at the dead of dawn?

And then she thought about the bloodstains.

"Are you okay, Hinata?"

She stared at the back of his head. "Yes, sir." She mumbled as she wiped down his back.

"If you're getting tired you can leave,"

"I'm fine, sir. Please forgive if I seem absent-minded tonight," She said, grabbing the wooden bucket. Hinata filled the wooden pail with water and poured it over Naruto's head.

He remained quiet for the remainder of his bath.

Hinata stared at the ceiling and wondered if Naruto would be going out tonight, as Konohamaru said. Her ears perked up as she heard a creaking sound coming from the staircase. It stopped, and then she heard footsteps walking down the maid quarters. She heard one of the doors opening before they closed, and the steps came towards her room.

Hinata closed her eyes tightly when she heard the room door opening, and then it closed. She waited and waited, but whoever it never came inside. After a while, her eyes fluttered open. "I guess Konohamaru wasn't lying."

"What are you doing, Hinata?" Konohamaru asked Hinata, who was sitting on one of the kitchen's stool.

"Oh, I'm writing to my sister," Hinata replied. "She's in Suna at a boarding school."

"That's nice! When's the last time you've seen her?" Konohamaru asked, taking a seat next to her.

"When she was eight," Hinata mumbled. "They wanted to send me off, but I wanted Hanabi to take my place. It was better that way," She sighed.

"Can I write to your sister too?" Konohamaru pleaded. "I've never had anyone to write. Can I, please?"

Hinata stared at the boy strangely because she couldn't understand why someone would want to write to somebody they had no association with. Nonetheless, she handed him a paper with a feather.

"Thank you, Hinata. You're the best." He said, smiling brightly. "Is she my age?"

"A year younger," Hinata replied.

Konohamaru smiled as he sat opposite Hinata and started writing. Hinata eyed him, and he looked genuinely happy.

After a while, Hinata placed the quill pen down and did a few stretches. The afternoon sky was soaring, and it was time to prepare supper.

Naruto had just come from a get-together and was rushing to get home. He didn't want to leave those two alone by themselves for a long time in case someone had tried to rob his house again. He suddenly stopped his tracks when he saw a young red hair girl, sitting his steps.

His movement was slower, the closer he got as he was studying the young girl. "What are you doing here?" There was an annoyed expression on his face as his young cousin looked up at him and smiled.

"Cousin!" She said, pushing herself off the steps and embracing him. "It's been a long time since I've seen you!"

"Did Aunt Saya tell you to come here, Karin?" He pushed her off, not too hard.

Karin crossed her arms and stuck her nose in the air. "No. Why can't I see you?"

"Why do you need bags to see me?" He said, noticing a bag that had some clothes sticking out.

"Naruto, please let me stay with you!" She clasped her hands together. "Mother is becoming unbearable, and the house is going crazy."

Naruto brushed past her and took out his keys. "Go home!"

Karin wrapped her arms around his waist and held him tightly. "I'm not going anywhere!" She whined. "Naruto, please!" He tried to push her off without hurting her, but she wasn't making it easy. "Naruto! Okay, just for the day. One day. I promise. One day and I won't bother you anymore!"

Naruto sighed, and his muscles relaxed. Karin was his cousin, and he knew the girl quite well. She was very persistent and always got everything she wanted. If he had turned away, she would just break into his house like the last time I stay.

"Fine! But take your own damn bags," He pushed the door opened, and Karin grinned.

She grabbed her bag and entered the house.

"Good afternoon, sir!" Konohamaru approached the man. "How was your day?" He spoke energetically as he took his master's coat. "Are you hungry? Thirsty? Hinata is preparing supper now!"

"Let me know when she is done," He said. "Oh, Konohamaru, this is Karin, my cousin. She will be staying with us for ONE DAY!" He glared at her.

Karin tilted her head to the side as she did not remember her mother giving Naruto a male servant. "You hired another servant, or did you fire Hinata?"

"Hinata still works here, and I do not hire anyone. They just so happen to find me," He said, making his way upstairs.

"I can take that for you!" Konohamaru said, taking the bag from Karin. "Please follow me, Lady Karin."

Konohamaru led the girl opposite the maid quarters and to the guest's side. He placed the bag on the top of the white wood circular table and bowed. "If you need any help, please don't hesitate to contact Hinata or me." He bowed. "Do you need me for anything else?"

"No, you are dismissed."

Konohamaru bowed once more before leaving.

"So, you do know her," Konohamaru said, while he was helping prepare the dinner table.

"Yes, I used to work for her," Hinata said, wiping down the glass.

"Oh!" Konohamaru said. "If you don't mind me asking, how did you come about working for Naruto?"

"I was given to him by my old master and was told I would be fired if he sent me back," Hinata said.

Konohamaru's eyes widened. "Seriously?" He frowned. "Why would anyone ever give you up, Hinata? You're so kind and sweet! A lot of people should like you!"

Hinata continued to wipe the plates down and didn't utter a word. On the contrary, they didn't like her because it made their husbands lose focus and stop paying attention to them.

She didn't understand why. Hinata didn't find herself attractive or beautiful. When she was younger, Hinata was always told that she was ugly and couldn't be a geisha nor a brothel worker, if she did become one (brothel worker), she would get the cheap customers.

"Hinata, you only put two glasses down," Konohamaru said, counting the china.

"We'll be eating in the kitchen tonight, Konohamaru," Hinata told him.

Lately, Naruto had let them eat with him instead of the kitchen. It was odd at first, but they grew accustomed to it, and it almost felt homely to them.

"Why?" He said, confused.

"Because he has a guest, and not many people are open-minded like Naruto," Hinata informed. "We are beneath him, and we wouldn't want to cause any further problems if word gets out. SO try to be on your best behavior and remember what I taught you, okay?"

Konohamaru couldn't agree with being beneath Naruto. "Hinata, I don't ever think we are beneath Naruto or anyone. We are all human and should be treated as such."

Hinata glanced at him, momentarily and smiled. "I wish the world understood that." "Please call the master and Lady Karin down."

"Hello, Lady Karin. How are you doing this afternoon?" Hinata bowed, once the red hair lady stepped into the room.

Karin was surprised at Hinata's new appearance. She was much fuller than when she lived with them, and her skin glowed. Maybe the rumors were true? Maybe something was going on between her and Naruto.

"Hinata, you look well," Karin said. Her eyes slightly widened when she saw the expensive kimono Hinata was wearing.

"Did you get settle in?" She asked.

Karin nodded. "I did." She said, sitting down at the table.

"Good evening, sir." Hinata bowed at Naruto, who joined.

He spotted the dishes on the table and then at Hinata, confused. She glanced at him, and he sighed mentally.

"You may leave." He brushed her away.

"Enjoy." She the two as she made her way behind the double doors.

"So, it is true?" Karin placed the napkin on her lap. "Naruto, I am disappointed in you."

"What are you talking about, Karin?" He mumbled.

"That you're secretly having sex with the maid," Kain said. "That can ruin your reputation."

"Why are you concerned about who I am having sex with?" He asked.

"I am," She frowned. "I don't want you to ruin yourself and her out of all people?" She placed the wine glass to her mouth. "I thought you would have better taste."

"Hinata isn't ugly," Naruto eyed her.

"She's a maid, a dirty one at that." She said disgustedly. "That's why she's always bounced around. Apparently, she's too fast."

"Oh. Hinata can be slow sometimes," Naruto said in a bored tone.

"I'm serious, Naruto!" Karin was visibly upset. "She almost ruined mama's marriage, and then she tried to sleep with Yuki!"

"Yuki is fifteen and a man. You sure it wasn't him who instigated it?" He was annoyed.

"I'm just telling you, Naruto. I don't understand why mother would give you Hinata. She should have just fired her."

"Karin. That is enough." Naruto frowned. "I'm not having sex with Hinata, and I would appreciate it if you stop with your false rumors about the girl." Naruto put the wine glass down. "Hinata has yet to come on to me how everyone proclaims. I have not seen a lewd side to her."

Karin sighed. "I'm sorry. I just want what's best for you, Naruto." Karin told him truthfully. "You've been through so much, and I know mother wasn't always good to you. But she truly cares about you."

"That woman only cares about herself, Karin," Naruto said in a hushed tone. "Please eat, and let's stop talking about this."

Karin held her tongue and watched as Naruto ate the food slowly. There was a sad look that dawned on her face, and she sighed mentally.

(A few days later…)

"Konohamaru!" Hinata called out. She peeped her head into the parlor and saw the boy wiping down the window.

"Is everything okay?" Naruto asked Hinata. He was sitting on a red sofa, reading a newspaper.

"Ah, yes, sir." She bowed. "A letter came in for Konohamaru."

Konohamaru swiftly turned around, and his eyes widened. "A letter? For me?" He couldn't contain his excitement as he rushed over to Hinata.

"Yes, but finish your chores, then you can read it," Hinata said.

Naruto eyed Hinata, and he quickly raised the paper to cover his face once she looked in his direction. "Sir, would you like some afternoon tea?"

"The swelling on your eye is going down, Hinata," Naruto said, putting the paper down. His eyes lingered to her chest, and she noticed.

"The mark is almost gone there too, sir! Sakura made this cream, and it's working well." Her face turned red.

"Good. Are you feeling well?" Naruto asked.

"Yes, sir!"

Naruto watched as Konohamaru left the room to read the letter. He then eyed Hinata and smirked. "Hinata, how fast are you?"

"Um…"

"You have thirty seconds to get me my sheet music upstairs."

Hinata eye's widened. "But sir! That's impossible."

Naruto shrugged. "I'll give you forty seconds… starting now!"

Hinata turned on her feet and darted upstairs, Konohamaru, who tuck beside the stairs, watched as the girl rushed upstairs, and he tilted his head to the side. "I wondered what happened." He muttered. He grabbed the knife and sliced the envelope.

Konohamaru smiled widely as he read the message.

To Konohamaru,

You are quite strange. My sister told me I should expect a letter from you, and I wondered who this unknown person would be.

Who writes to somebody they barely know? But I suppose I am strange myself since I was writing back to you.

My sister tells me you are very kind and thoughtful, and you protected her, although she did not go into detail. Maybe you can tell me? I'm afraid she's not honest with me when it comes to her life, and I just want her to be happy.

Please keep this a secret between you and me, but sometimes I feel like I am a burden to her. She sends me all this money and works as a maid.

My sister is very dear to me, and I want nothing but the best for her! Once I am done, I will return the favor, and she will never have to work again.

I've learned a lot while in Suna, and right now, I am taking up sewing. I have a knack for it, and I'm the best in my class.

I find it quite funny you and my sister share the same birth month! Mine is on March 27th.

I am interested to know more about you, Konohamaru. You have my permission to send me letters whenever you want to. I enjoy reading letters. They do something to me that makes me happy.

And thank you for protecting my sister. If she dies, I don't know what I would do without her.

Please forgive the wet spot. I accidentally dropped some water on my letter, and I would hate to waste paper.

I can't wait to hear from you again, Konohamaru.

My best regards,

Hanabi H.

"Ah, she has cute handwriting!" He blushed furiously. Konohamaru jumped up and ran to the stationary room. He needed to get a quill and paper to write Hanabi.

Hinata leaned over and was breathing heavily. In her hand, she clutched the sheet paper tightly. She knew it was more than forty seconds. How could the man possibly expect her to get there and back in under a minute?

She swallowed the lump in her throat as she handed him the paper. He remained quiet as he gazed at the sheet music. Hinata knew what was coming next because he had done this before. Maybe he was in a foul mood?

He brought the sheet music down and stared at her. "Hinata," She straightened her posture as she waited for the young man to yell at her for being tardy.

"Yes, sir?" She said timidly.

"You did well," He said, tapping her on the top of her head with the sheet music.

Her heart skipped a beat when she saw him smile slightly.

"I feel like eating some anpan," Naruto turned his back. "Can you make us some?" (Anpan: Japanese red bean bun)

Hinata snapped out of her trail of thoughts and quickly nodded her head. "Yes, sir. I can!"

"Thank you,"

"Oh, sir… are you going to play the piano? When you ask for sheet music, I never see you play the piano."

"Oh," He glanced over his shoulder and grinned. "I don't know how to play the piano." Hinata stared at him, dumbfounded. Naruto walked past her and chuckled.

Hinata sighed, but she couldn't help but smile. She closed the parlor door behind her and shook her head. "Sir, I assume you were very mischievous when you were younger," She said to herself, a slight smile visible on her face.
