Chapter 8.2

Things were quiet, extremely quiet. He turned his head slightly to the left and stared at the freshly painted walls. Kiba and the girls went to the market place to look at some comforters and blankets for the kids. Sakura insisted they also tag along with Kiba as men didn't have any taste and would probably get something plain and dull.

He rolled on his back and stared at the ceiling. There were a lot of memories in his house he had as a child. His father, along with Fugaku built this house way before he was even born in hopes of the abundance of children his father would have.

That dream was put to rest. Sometimes he would get angry just thinking about it. Thinking about the life he had to miss because of war and sickness. All he wanted was his family back, his mother and father.

He wanted to feel his mother's warm lips pressed against his skin, or her kind touch. He wanted to play with her silky red hair and be envious of how he wasn't born with it. He wanted to feel his father's strong embrace and soar through the sky like an airplane. He wanted to hear his father's voice, so kind yet stern; so friendly, and brave.

A tear slid across his cheek and he quickly wiped it away. The pain of losing somebody was awfully familiar to him, and despite his efforts of being by himself or a pain in the ass, people were still attracted to him and he was fond of his few friends.

He was fond of them all, even fonder of Hinata. She had similar traits of his mother and father. She was kind, sweet and he prayed she would never stray from that; but to be a little wiser.

Just thinking about her put a little smile on his face and he closed his eyes. He couldn't hear a thing, and soon enough he drifted off to sleep.

The mansion came into view and Hinata stared romantically at it. There was no doubt, someone had built this by their own hands, and she wanted so desperately to find out the backstory to it.

Upon cleaning, she had discovered little things engraved in the crowns and even the floor and two letters put together- MK.

She had seen it on the front entrance of the gates too, but that piece was taken down by Naruto.

Whoever it was, was surely in love and she could only fantasize about a love so strong and powerful.

When they approached the stairs, she was first to enter while Kiba and Konohamaru brought in the comforter sets.

"I'll check on Naruto," Hinata told the group before she ran upstairs.

"Do you believe she's in love with Naruto?" Ino questioned, watching Hinata climb the stairs.

"Why would you think that?" Sakura asked. Then she suddenly gasped. "Do you really believe the rumors are true?"

Ino shrugged as a response. "Hinata doesn't look like the type to spread her legs. Now I believe Antionette would do such a thing." She crossed her arms and stuck her nose in the air. "Everyone think she is little Ms. Perfect, and everything is a hush-hush in regard to her, but I've heard that she's no saint in the bedroom."

Sakura covered her mouth. "Ino, you mustn't spread such rumors."

"I don't spread rumors about anybody. I just so happened to hear a conversation between two men in the court yard. They were rather loud."

"Two?"

"I tell you that girl isn't what she appears to be. Don't let that innocent face fool ya, Sakura. I've seen the way she looks at you when you're around Sasuke. In fact, I won't be surprised if she had pushed her luck with Sasuke before going to Naruto."

"I quite like her and her fashion, but now I'm more than curious about her. Should we invite her to tea?" Sakura said, wrapping her arm around Ino's own.

"I'd rather not, but it has been boring lately so I'll agree to it."

A small smile grace Sakura's face. "I want to invite Hinata. Can we have tea at your place instead? I think it'll be best if mother isn't involved."

"Fine, fine."

Sakura squealed in response.

Hinata peeked her head into the room she had last left Naruto. It was a little quiet, and the fresh scent of paint travelled up her nostrils. She took note of the figure lying on the carpeted floor and she tiptoed towards it.

"Sir," She whispered. No stirring, and no response. The closer she got to her master, the clearer she was able to see him, and- She covered her mouth to suppress her giggles for all things small and cute.

On the top of her master's stomach, lied a small fox who gazed at her with its deep blue eyes. Hinata had never seen such a thing, and if she wasn't mistaken, she would have said they almost resembled Naruto's eyes.

He raised his head slowly as Hinata approached him, careful not to scare the little fellow away. His orange tail swished back and forth.

With little steps, she was able to reach Naruto and the fox remained.

"Sir," She stooped down. "Naruto," She said a little louder.

His eyes fluttered, and Hinata came in and out of view. He was about to get up when Hinata pinned him back to the ground.

"Hinata?"

"Sir, please be careful. You don't want to frighten your friend."

"Friend? What nonsense are you talking about?" He asked, rubbing his eyes. His vision came into view and he look towards where Hinata was pointing.

He got up abruptly which made both Hinata and the fox to fall flat on their bottoms. The fox glared at Naruto and launched at him.

"Naruto!" Hinata shouted when she saw how he grabbed the fox by the back of its neck. "He's still a youngling and you shouldn't hold him like that." She said, taking the fox gently from him.

She held him gently and even kissed him on the top of his nose. Naruto ran his fingers through his locks and glared at it.

"Hinata, you must discard of that creature at once." Naruto demanded, standing up.

"But sir, it's so cute!" She said, holding him so Naruto can get a better view. "And he even has your eyes. I've never seen such a thing."

"Foxes are not something you keep as pets, Hinata and they aren't something you would want to be around." Naruto said, glaring at the creature who was snuggling against Hinata's neck. "They are a symbol of bad luck and misfortune."

"Bad luck and misfortune, sir? How?"

"These stories go back as far as Princess Kaguya, Hinata. They were once benevolent creatures of the princess, but they became just as corrupted as her when she didn't get her way. She used these creatures to spread bad luck, and they were even once a symbol of death."

Hinata turned pale. "D-d-death?"

"You mustn't worry. It's just a folklore," He mumbled, once noticing her pale face, "but still! I do not want that creature here."

"Do you really think bad luck will happen because of this cute fox?"

"You keep saying cute," Naruto mumbled.

"Because it is, and sir, it's just a baby."

"And it means the mother is somewhere close. Take him outside and let's finish up in here."

Hinata pouted as she held the cute fox even tighter in her arms. Naruto looked away as he tried his best not to succumb to her desires.

"If you throw it away, I will buy you a puppy."

"But I want this one, and you even said it's just folklore. Can we keep him?" She said, standing up. "Please." She walked in front of him and held the fox closer to his face.

The little fox raised its paw to Naruto as an attempt for the man to hold him.

"Hinata," Naruto called, shaking his head. "He has a mother. Do you really want to take him away?"

"No, I'm sorry sir. I wasn't thinking. I'll let him go into the garden." She turned on her heels, but she was stopped when Naruto spun her around.

He hated to see her with that sad look on her face. "Y-yes, Naruto?"

He could feel the heat radiating off his face and he let her go and stepped back. "I'll get you two puppies." He muttered.

"Two? No! It's, it's okay sir. Um, I'll get going," She said, rushing outside of the room.

As Hinata ran down the hall. She couldn't help but blush. "What's gotten into him?" She thought.

.

.

.

The afternoon sky was approaching, and Naruto was finishing up the last room that needed to be painted over. He wanted to finish the project by tomorrow and get the children and Yumi in here by the weekend.

This was the least he could do, especially for Hinata. Just seeing her smile made him joyful, despite everything that went on in the world.

He was glad he took her in, away from the treacherous witch, his Aunt Saya. He already knew the horror Hinata most likely went through, after all he had to deal with it for ten (and more) years.

He didn't understand why his Aunt had him wrapped around her fingers, even after leaving her nest. He responded to her invitations, and went to her parties much to his dislike, but that would be enough.

There wasn't any pleasure going there as it made him physically ill just to stand in that house. Then she had the nerve to send a maid. He believed it was to spy on him, but Hinata showed otherwise. She kept her promise and never let his aunt step into his home after their talk.

He squeezed the handle of the paint brush as he thought more about Hinata's ordeal. She was most likely abuse. Aunt Saya always believe in the rod of correction, and she wasn't wrong, but to beat a child to the point they couldn't sit for a week was just absurd.

Then that man, his Uncle Sebastian. There was no telling what he did to Hinata all those days. His actions were quite clear in the alleyway and he felt like a fool for believing Hinata would want to do anything with that man.

He exhaled throughout his nose as he tried to gather his thoughts.

"Yo."

Naruto paused momentarily, (his heart skipped a beat) and he slowly turned his head to the side. A taller man with silver hair came into view. His mouth was covered with a black mask, and he had smiling eyes.

"Kakashi-sensei," Naruto said, putting down the paint brush on top of the paint can.

"Did I scare you?" He asked, playfully.

Naruto shot him a quick glare. "Not in the slightest. What brings you here? Are you back from your expedition?"

"The journey was a bore, but I stopped by to see what was going on. I noticed the buggy upfront and wandered who would be brave enough to break in my sensei's mansion."

"Well look no further, it's me." Naruto said, sliding against the wall and sitting on his bottom.

"Exhausted?"

"A little."

Kakashi stooped down and placed the book on the floor. Naruto noticed it was one of the pervert's series, Icha Icha.

"Perv," He mumbled.

Kakashi chuckled as a response. "I've been gone for some time, maybe you can fill me in about what's going on."

Naruto eyed him momentarily before he told him everything, especially their secret meetings.

The smiling eyes opened slightly, and Kakashi wore his serious face. "I see. That is a problem."

"A huge problem." Naruto added. "We can't afford to go to war with Suna, Kakashi-sensei. We're still feeling the aftermath from the other war and that was so long ago."

"I agree with you." He stood up. "Now is not the time for war. Times are changing and we need to be on one accord. Having this war will surely affect Konoha, greatly."

"Yeah, we can't but that man doesn't give a damn. He's been funding another program," Naruto mumbled. "We've got warplanes now, Kakashi." He scoffed. "How do we have this, but Konoha is still in shit? He doesn't want us to advance. There's a whole new world out there with cars to travel wherever you like and a government that cares about the advancement of their people."

"We'll take it back. We'll take it all back," He swore. "I must be on my way to report to the Hokage." Naruto stood up and did a few stretches to ease his aching bones. "Oh, by the way, Naruto," Kakashi pointed to the wall. "You've got something on your back."

Naruto turned around and saw the smeared paint on the wall. He balled his fist and was about to let Kakashi have it when he noticed the man disappeared.

"Sneaky rat. How did he even sneak in here without making a peep?" He groaned inwardly and shook his head. "Damn bastard."

.

.

.

Early morning came, and Hinata had just place the last plate of breakfast on the table.

"Naruto," Hinata called out as she took her seat next to Konohamaru. He hummed. "Ino has invited me out for tea today and I want to know if it is okay if I can go." Naruto ate a piece of jammed bread as he read through the newspaper. "I know it's under short noticed and I understand if you don't want me to go," She said. "I just thought it would be okay since you did not need me today." Her voice went softer after each sentence.

Konohamaru glanced at Hinata then at Naruto who was still quiet.

After a while, he responded, "Are you sure you're ready to go to another tea party? I don't want an incident like last time." He said, his eyes never leaving the paper.

"Ino has assured me that something like that will not happen again and it will only be her, Sakura and the Lady Antionette."

Naruto looked at Hinata briefly then back at the newspaper. It was enough to notice the look in his eyes by the mere mention of Antionette's name.

"As long as you're okay with it. Do you know what you're going to wear?"

"Ah, I didn't think about that."

"Well, you have a lot of dresses to choose from. I'm sure you'll make the right decision." He sipped on the lukewarm tea.

"I will escort you there." Naruto said.

"I can do it!" Konohamaru piped up. "I'll make sure Hinata gets there safely."

"Very well, I'll take your word for it." Naruto said, taking his leave. "When you are done escorting her, please make your way back to assist."

"Are you leaving so soon?" Hinata said, getting up as well. "You didn't finish eating yet."

Naruto shoved the other half of jammed bread into his mouth and gulp the rest of tea down. "All done."

"Sir!" Hinata scolded him.

Naruto grinned before he left the dining hall.

Hinata sat down and puffed out her cheeks. "He should take it easy!"

"I don't think Naruto wants to take it easy. He's always finding something to do which is a good thing." Konohamaru mentioned.

"I know, but still. I don't' want him to get sick again."

Konohamaru glanced at her through the corner of her eyes, and he felt a piece of his heart shattered. She was blushing, and there was no denying it. She had taken a liking to Naruto and he didn't know why that bothered him so much. Maybe because Naruto was a far better man than him. He was well off and financially stable. He even was renovating a new orphanage; how could he possibly compete?

"Hinata," Konohamaru said, twiddling his fingers with one another.

"Yes, Konohamaru?"

"Oh, it's nothing. I'll clear the garden while you put your outfit together. Let me know when you are ready," He said, leaving the room in a hurry.

.

.

.

Konohamaru walked slowly behind Hinata who walked dainty in front of him. He wasn't trying to look, but Hinata had a wonderful view from the back. He loved the way her hips swayed left and right in the flowy dress she decided on. He loved the way her hair flowed with her movements and how soft her skin looked.

Hinata kept poking her index fingers together. She wanted to get Naruto's approval for the dress she picked out. It was so strange, but getting his approval meant the world to her, and she just wanted to hear the same compliment he'd always say, "You're beautiful."

She had heard those words over and over by countless of men, but how could a maid be beautiful? Her hands weren't as soft as her madam's hands, and her knees were slightly dark due to being on her knees most of the time.

There were just so many things that made her so unattractive, but when Naruto says it, she can't help but believe there to be some truth to it.

"Why am I thinking about him so much?"

She was also a little nervous and tried to decline the invitation from Ino, but she assured her who would be there and that her household did not stand for such cruelty.

Hinata stopped and stared at the manor in amazement. Ino said it would not be hard to miss. Once she spotted a magnificent garden, she would find the correct place.

"This is your stop," Konohamaru bowed. "Naruto and I will get you once we are done."

Hinata nodded slowly. "Thank you Konohamaru and please keep a sharp eye wherever you go."

"Yes ma'am!" He said saluting her. "Have fun, Hinata!"

She waved at him shyly before making her way through the front entrance.

The Yamanka's had not lost their Japanese tradition and it had been a while since Hinata saw something, besides the Inuzuka's manor, suit her family's tradition. She went between through the opened gates and allow her eyes to take in the beauty of the garden. There were so many flowers to choose from and there were so many green leaves and trees just about everywhere.

Hinata ran up the small red bridge and she couldn't help herself from giggling uncontrollably as she looked down at the pond beneath her. She saw the little koi fishes swimming up and down like they were racing one another, and she took note of the small frog hopping from lily pad to lily pad.

"So pretty," Her eyes widened in excitement.

"I'm glad you think so."

Hinata lounged up and bowed slightly. "Ino your garden is so beautiful."

"Thank you," She grinned. "I didn't want you to get lost. Follow me," Ino said, leading her down the bridge. "We're going to have tea outside since it is hot out."

"Winter will soon be here. It was a little chilly yesterday."

Ino nodded. "I hate the winter time. The cold always messes up my skin." She whined.

"Hinata!" Sakura called out.

She and Antionette was sitting around a white circular table. "Um, Ino where are your maids?"

"Oh, they are inside. I didn't want any interference."

"I see."

"Come, come. Sakura can be impatient."

Hinata nodded as she walked quickly towards Ino's side. "Good day, Sakura." She bowed once she reached the table. "Good day Lady Antionette."

"Please call me Antionette, Hinata," The girl smiled cheekily.

"Hinata that is a beautiful dress!" Sakura exclaimed. "Did I not see this in Madam Yuhi's shop a few days ago?"

"Madam Yuhi gifted me this dress a few weeks ago. She's very nice to me," Hinata replied.

"I hear she can be really mean," Sakura frowned.

"And she doesn't allow everyone to buy her dress." Antionette added. "You're really lucky and pretty, Hinata. I hear she only lets people who she deems as beautiful to wear her outfits."

Hinata blushed profusely. "I don't think she's mean at all. She's usually so kind and friendly towards me."

"It's because you're beautiful, Hinata!" Ino said. "Would you like some tea?"

She couldn't help but stare shockingly at Ino, but she nodded. "T-thank you."

"It's my pleasure." She said, sitting down next to Sakura on the white chair.

"Ino, I'm quite surprise you've invited me to tea," Antionette smiled. "I was under the impression that you did not like me."

Ino placed the teacup to her mouth and smiled. "Why would you assume such a thing?" She sipped slowly.

"It's must be my imagination," She said, nibbling on the ham sandwich.

"Did Naruto leave to finish the remaining project?" Sakura asked.

"Yes, he left early morn." Hinata replied.

"That's a nice thing he's doing," Antionette said. "Sakura told me all about it and I think it's a splendid idea. The orphanages are overlooked. I'm not even sure how they pass inspections or if they even get one."

"Naruto is a kind man." Ino commented. "Those children will be really happy."

"I can't wait to see Yumi's face." Hinata spoke up. "She's going to be really happy."

"Antionette, you're almost of age where you're going to start getting a lot of proposals. Do you think you're going to get any good suitors?" Ino inquired. "After all, you're adorable."

"I've had a few proposals so far, but I'm going to refuse them." Antionette said, placing the teacup down. "Well, more like father has."

"Oh, why?" Sakura questioned.

"Well, he's been trying to arrange a marriage with the youngest Uchiha, Sasuke."

Sakura opened her eyes slightly. "Really?" She was obviously hurt by the news and the mere fact that Sasuke didn't bring this to her attention. Ino noticed the hurt expression and kicked Sakura softly.

"Yes, but it isn't Sasuke I want."

"If I may ask, Antionette but do you perhaps have someone in mind?" Hinata asked. "I've read some women marry for finance, and others marry for love."

Antionette giggled cutely. "It is true. A man should be financially stabled before even seeking marriage, don't you agree? But I not only want to be taken care of financially, but I also look for love," She said, clasping her hands together. "I told papa I would not marry the Uchiha boy as my heart is smitten by another."

This made Sakura a little happier to hear the news, but deep down inside she knew there would be more to come for her beloved Sasuke.

"And who might that be if you don't mind me asking?" Ino said, raising her eyes.

"It's Hinata's master, Naruto Namikaze."

"What?" Sakura coughed out. "Naruto out of all people? He has his moments, but he can be quite mean and stingy. I wouldn't call him a prince charming or anybody's suitor."

Hinata placed the teacup down and stared at Antionette.

"I've never seen a bad side to him, Sakura. In fact, he's been very kind to me, and he visits our home quite often and papa has left us alone on a few occasions."

Ino was shocked by the sudden news and took a quick glance at Hinata who was just as equally shocked.

"When I was sick, he even sent me a bouquet of flowers and wished me good health." She wedged the fork between the cake. "I don't care too much for the rumors about him, and I doubt they are true. Papa loves me and succumbs to my every demand so when I am of age, he will arrange a marriage between me and Naruto."

"Interesting." Ino hummed.

"Hinata, you've been quiet this entire time. You're not upset, are you?" Antionette asked, eyeing the girl.

"I'm fine."

"Since you are Naruto's maid, maybe you can tell me a few things about him. Like his favorite food? Any admirers? You are the closes to him, so maybe you should know." Antionette asked, eagerly.

"I-

"I wish to get him a present for his birthday. When I met with him, I tried my hardest to pry a little information about his likes, but I failed. He's a little cheeky and he finds pleasure in making fun of my small status, but I believe it has bought us a little closer."

"Naruto is a very secretive man, and I'm afraid Hinata still knows so little about him." Ino spoke. "Isn't that right, Hinata?"

"Yes. Naruto often does things in secrecy and doesn't like to get me involve."

"Oh," Antionette whispered. "I've just heard that you two are quite close," Hinata flinched. "but yet again, I don't believe in rumors. So, I'll take your word, Hinata. I'm sorry, but I won't be here long as I had other prior arrangements." Antionette said, standing up. "Thank you again for inviting me, Ino, and let us do this some other time. "Take care Sakura, Hinata." She bowed, before leaving.

Once she was gone, Ino slammed her hand on the table. "See, didn't I tell you I don't like her. She's very cunning and has a way for words. She knew exactly what she was saying."

"I didn't know Sasuke was offered a proposal." Sakura said, sadly.

Ino scoffed. "Hinata, don't listen to her. Naruto would never marry somebody like that."

Hinata tried to smile, but she couldn't. Naruto said he was not interested in marriage, and did not even find Antionette beautiful, but why was he at her house? Alone? Being kind? What was she even thinking anyway? Why did she even care? Like Sakura mentioned, Naruto was no prince charming, so who-

Sakura placed her hand on the top of Hinata's hand which caught her attention. "Hina- Are you crying?"

"Huh?" Hinata quickly pulled her hand back and began to wipe her face. Sure enough, there were tears running down her cheeks. She quickly wiped them away and turned her head slightly to hide her embarrassment.

"Hinata, are you in love with Naruto?" Sakura asked.

Hinata shook her head. "I-I'm just happy for him and only want what's best." She muttered. "I'm sorry if I am a little emotional." Ino handed her a napkin and Hinata took it. "Thank you."

"It's okay if you are, Hinata." Sakura said, rubbing her back.

"Like you said, Sakura, Naruto is no prince charming, and I am certainly not in love with him." Hinata said. "I know my place in the world, and I'm just glad someone can see pass my master's faults." She straightened her posture.

Sakura may have been convinced, but Ino saw straight through Hinata.

"I've decided to take you up on your offer. I would like to see home."

Sakura clasped her hands together and grinned. "How delightful! I shall ask Naruto when he arrives."

"Hopefully, Naruto will say yes," Ino butted in.

"Why wouldn't he? It's not like Hinata is going to leave him. I'll bet he'll say yes."

.

.

.

"No."

Sakura gasped and then stomped her foot childishly. "Why not? Hinata wants to see home and you have no right to deny her that."

Naruto pinched the bridge of his nose, clearly irritated. Konohamaru could see Naruto was extremely tense, even he was a little tired. Lifting and carrying almost fifty bed frames into a manor full of stairs was no easy task. Hell, even Kiba was exhausted and ended up falling asleep.

"I said no. Now do not ask me again. Let's go Hinata."

Sakura raised her fist at him, but Hinata gently took it and pulled Sakura to the side. "Sakura, it's okay. Please do not upset the master. He's visibly tired and I'm afraid I've asked of him too much already. Maybe some other time when he's in a better mood."

"But Hinata," Sakura whined. "He has no right to deny you that." She gave him a quick glare. "But wouldn't it be nice to see home?"

"It would be, but I don't want to upset Naruto."

Sakura crossed her arms and sighed. "Okay, fine. I won't push it, but" She smiled. "Maybe he doesn't have to know."

"What do you mean?"

"I'll explain more, away from certain ears," Sakura said, eyeing Konohamaru who was pretending not to listen.

"Come on forehead. Let Hinata leave with Naruto. As you can see the poor man is tired and Hinata has to go home and prepare supper."

"He can find his own supper." Sakura grumbled. She reluctantly let go of Hinata and wished her a farewell.

"Thank you for having me Ino. Please take care Sakura." Hinata bowed. She turned on her heels to catch up to Naruto and Konohamaru who already began walking.

Hinata lowered her head as she was slightly disappointed at Naruto saying no. Maybe it would have been best just to go without letting him know, but she was not a sneaky person.

"How was the tea party, Hinata?" Konohamaru asked.

"It was nice," She said, staring at the back of Naruto's head. She waited for him to ask too, but he did not and did not even complimented her outfit. "I learned some things from the Lady Antionette." Still no response from Naruto.

Konohamaru nodded. "Well, I'm glad everything went as planned. Tomorrow will be the last day to tidy up and then we're going to let Yumi, and the children know."

.

.

.

The last day seemed to be the busiest they've ever been. Kiba and Hinata were out to the market place gathering some groceries to put in the house, while Sakura and Ino were placing the sheets and blankets on each bed and hanging up some clothes for the kids into the closets.

Naruto kept glaring at the fox who had come to visit again, and he tried to shoo it away when it bit the hem of his pant's leg, trying to pull him.

"Go home to your mother." He would say before throwing it in the back, but somehow it always found his way back to where he was in the house.

The afternoon sky began to form, and Naruto had picked up the last paper off the floor. He was surprised by the outcome as it was no longer the place his father built for his mother.

Hinata stared in awe at the final project, and she was excited that the kids had somewhere safer to live. She was exceptionally happy that Naruto had given her the choice to help Yumi or not.

"I am so sore!" Kiba said, leaning over Akamaru. "I don't think I've ever worked so hard in my life."

"Tell me about it." Ino said, looking over her hands. "I need a nice bath."

"Likewise," Sakura mumbled. "Hurry up, Naruto," She said, rushing the man who was locking the gates.

He paid no mind to her and made sure the gates were secured before they left.

The door creaked opened and Yumi's eyes lit up when she saw Hinata and Naruto along with another fellow standing outside on the porch.

"Hinata!" She exclaimed, hugging the girl tightly. "It's so good to see you," And then she bowed to Naruto, "and it's a pleasure to see you Naruto," She then glanced at the shy boy.

"This is Konohamaru," Hinata introduced. "He works for Naruto too."

Konohamaru bowed. "Good day, Ms. Yumi,"

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Konohamaru." She bowed. "Why don't you come in for some tea?" She said, stepping to the side. "We were just getting ready for snack time."

The three entered and some kids ran back and forth, playing with one another. Konohamaru's guts twisted as it had brought back memories of being in the orphanage.

It seems that all of Konoha's orphanage was the same, because Yumi's own was similar to the ones he stayed at.

They were overcrowded, unkempt and not enough resources to go around. He had some mean caretakers, and that was one of the reasons he left.

"Children!" Yumi called out. "What are you to say when we have visitors?"

"Good day" They said in unison.

"This is Naruto," She said. "This is the man who provided us a belly full," She smiled warmly. "And this is Hinata and Konohamaru."

Their eyes sparkled as they looked up at their savior. One smaller girl grabbed Naruto's hand and smiled up at him.

"Join us for snack time," She said, leading him into the kitchen.

Naruto bent over slightly as the little girl led him to the dinning area. Unlike before, it looked slightly better but still disheveled.

The children poured into the tight fitted room, and some had to settle on the floor to eat. They seemed to be content as they chattered with one another, happily. Some stared at the trio and their eyes had sparkled as it was rare that they got any visitors.

Konohamaru shook his head as he was offered a seat, and he opted to sit on the floor with some of the kids who observed him as if he was a foreign object.

"Ma'am, ma'am," A younger boy called out, pulling out a chair for Hinata. "Sit here."

"T-thank you," Hinata said, taking the seat.

"Sit," The little girl demanded Naruto.

Hinata giggled when Naruto plopped himself into the chair. Once he was seated, she climbed on his lap and made herself comfortable.

"Is that how you speak to someone older than you?" Naruto frowned at the snaggle tooth girl, playfully.

"You and I are the same age," She said, innocently.

Naruto couldn't help but smile and she grabbed the Yaki Manju (roasted sweet bun) off the broken glass plate.

"Would you like some? I've made enough to last tomorrow or perhaps some tea?" Yumi inquired.

"We came unannounced, so please don't worry," Naruto replied, apologetically. "We actually came here to discuss an important matter with you."

Hinata looked to her side when she felt someone tucking on the sleeve of her kimono. It was the same young boy who had given up his seat for her. He outstretched his hand as if asking to be picked up. Her eyes sparkled by his cuteness and without hesitation he was already seated on her lap.

"An important matter?" Yumi felt her heart racing. Hearing those words, made her frighten for the children. She had dreams about that same exact words before her house would disappear.

The children stared at there caretaker, and some quickly rushed to her to hug her.

"Please don't fret, Yumi," Hinata spoke up when she saw the look in her eyes. Yumi swallowed the lump on her throat, and she nodded.

"Go eat, children," She ushered them back to their seats and the floor. "Shall we discuss this in the hall?"

"Yes, Hinata will discuss it with you," Naruto said, turning to Hinata. "After all, it was her doing."

Her face turned slightly red. "Sir, but it was you and I can't take credit. I think it'll be best-He raised his eyebrow, and she pouted. "Fine," Hinata said, placing the younger boy, no older than five, on the floor. "I'll be right back," She told him when she noticed his eyes teared up.

She followed Yumi to the hallway, and once they were out of sight, the children surrounded Naruto and bombarded him with questions.

"What do you do for a living, sir?"

"How old are you?"

"Are you coming to adopt us?"

"Who's that lady? She's pretty."

"You've got blue eyes. It reminds me of my favorite marble! Do you want to see?"

"Is that your wife?"

"And is that your son?" One asked, pointing to Konohamaru who crossed his arm.

Naruto chuckled nervously at the children and their questions.

"Let's play ball!" One suggested.

Suddenly, there was a loud screech of agreements and the kids grabbed Naruto and Konohamaru and pulled them outside to the backyard.

Yumi covered her mouth when Hinata told her the news and she held her chest. The tears poured down and she was grateful when Hinata handed her a handkerchief from her bosom.

"Please don't tell me I'm dreaming," She whispered.

Hinata smiled brightly. "I'm proud to say you're not, Yumi. Everything is already set. The master got you this huge property and even fixed it up! The children all have beds to sleep in, clothes, and even food to last!"

"Your master is so kind!" She hugged Hinata. "Thank you! Thank you! Thank you so much!" She squeezed Hinata tightly. "I don't know how I can ever repay you or your master."

"There's no need to," Hinata giggled. "He did this with good intentions. He wants to move all of you by the weekend."

Yumi's eyes widened, and she nodded. "Yes, I'll get started right away!"

Hinata placed Yumi's hands into hers and smiled. "I'm excited for you Yumi. Shall we tell the children?"

Yumi nodded eagerly and both she and Hinata walked into the kitchen only to discover that it was empty besides the youngest boy Hinata had placed on her lap.

"Up?"

Hinata picked him up without hesitation and placed him on the side of her hip.

"Marco, where's Mr. Namikaze and the children?" Yumi asked.

He pointed outside and Yumi led them to the backdoor that creaked back and forth.

The ball soared through the clear blue sky, and the kids eyed the ball like a hawk as it came crashing down. One kid shouted when Naruto kicked the ball to Konohamaru, and they chased down the older men who weren't showing them in mercy.

Konohamaru laughed when one of the younger boys tried to tackle him, and he threw the ball over to Naruto who was chased down by the little minions. They were getting close, and before he knew it, one of them had taken hold of his leg, and soon enough they all piled on him.

Yumi went to say something, but Hinata suddenly stopped her when she heard Naruto laughing.

Hinata smiled warmly when she saw Naruto laughing and she couldn't believe it. It sounded so rich and creamy, and she didn't even know he could laugh such a way.

Once they were tired out, Yumi sat them all into a circle underneath the oak tree and informed them of what would be taken place. The children's' eyes sparkled, and they looked at one another surprised as they were excited about their new home.

"Thank you so much, Naruto. We are truly blessed." Yumi said, gratefully from the heart.

"Thank you, big brother Naruto!" The children replied in unison as they all surrounded him and gave him a big hug.

Yumi frowned. "Children don't be disrespectful to Naruto. You are to address him as Mr. Namikaze."

Hinata covered her mouth as she giggled upon seeing Naruto stared oddly at the children.

Konohamaru also laughed when he realized that was the same look Naruto had given to him prior.

Marco held tightly onto Hinata as Yumi tried to pry the small boy off. He refused to let her go and shook his head no. He almost burst into tears when Naruto was able to take him off.

"Don't go," He cried.

Hinata's heart swelled, and she took the boy from Naruto and gave him a big hug. "I have to leave Marco, but you'll see me again. I promise."

Both Konohamaru and Naruto looked at one another then glared at Marco when he rubbed his cheek against Hinata's own.

Naruto cleared his throat and Hinata glanced at him before she reluctantly placed Marco on the floor.

"Marco, Hinata says she'll visit you, but until then you must be a strong boy," Yumi said. "Go ahead and gather your things. We have a long day ahead of us tomorrow."

"Yumi," Naruto called out.

"Yes?"

She moved herself away from the children and followed Naruto away from open ears.

"Lord Hokage sends his regards and gave me permission to move you and the children." Naruto said. Her face was not pleased by the mere mention of the Hokage, and she nodded. "I know very well you are not fond of the Hokage, but if there is one way you can repay me, show him gratitude and thank him for doing such a thing."

"But it is not he that deserves recognition and praise." Yumi fought back. "It was you. Hinata told me what you did. Is she wrong?"

"I know Hinata has warned you and it would be best to do as I say. He's quick to anger, so you must, for the sake of the children, show gratitude not to me or Hinata, but the Hokage."

Yumi's frowned deepened, but she nodded. "I hate how he takes credit for things he puts no effort in. If it was not for me meeting you in the market, the kids and I- Her eyes watered. "We would be dead Naruto and nobody would bat an eye."

Naruto felt guilty as maybe, he too, would have not bat an eye if it had not been for Hinata.

"I know Yumi, but things will get better. You must be strong and continue to stay strong for the sake of the children and your daughter. These kids would be lost without you." He encouraged.

"Lord Hokage," He said, trying to hide his bitterness, "has given you permission to hire help, all expenses paid. You will also be getting your assistance for the month, and the assistance you've missed for the past three months."

Yumi covered her mouth, and let the tears fall to the ground. "We'll be here to help, so please don't hesitate to come to us during your time of need, but please remember my warning."

She grabbed his hands and placed it into hers. "Naruto, you are such a bright and wonderful child and I'll do my very best to live up to your encouraging words. Thank you also for bringing up such a wonderful household," She said, looking towards Hinata who played with Marco. "When I look at Hinata, I do not see a maid or someone who is torn down from their master. Thank you. Please take care of her and cherish her just as she cherishes you." She let go of his hands and gave him a tight hug. "Thank you."

The sun was slowly sinking, and the trio walked silently towards their home. Hinata was excited and couldn't wait to see Yumi and the children again, and Konohamaru was happy that the kids had a wonderful caretaker. They looked so happy even with the little they have because of Yumi. He wished every caretaker could be like Yumi.

"Naruto, thank you again," Hinata said, turning around.

"Thank you for what?" Naruto responded. "It was you who did this."

"I wouldn't be able to do anything if it weren't for you. I'm so happy for Yumi and did you see little Marco? He's so adorable!" She clasped her hands together. "I wanted to bring him and never let go,"

"You have a thing for cute things, huh Hinata?" Konohamaru asked, placing his arms behind his head. "You get so talkative when you see something cute."

"I do?" Hinata blushed.

He nodded. "You were like that with the pups too,"

"Because they're so cute with the big eyes and little noses. I just want to hug them for eternity."

Naruto chuckled softly at the girl's enthusiasm. She and Konohamaru went back and forth with which pup was the cutest at the Inuzuka's household.

Naruto listened attentively then he stopped in his tracks when he heard something rustling from above.

A leaf fluttered to the floor and he looked down at it. Another rustle and another.

Hinata glanced back at Naruto who had stopped and Konohamaru turned around just in time. He exploded into fits of laughter when a small fox landed on Naruto's head when he gazed up. Hinata grabbed the fox just before Naruto could grab it and held it up.

"What are you doing here, little guy? You're a little far away from home." The fox swished its tail back and forth and yawn. "Did he follow us?" She asked Naruto, who stepped behind her.

Konohamaru also approached her and stared oddly at the fox. "That's strange. He's just a baby so why is he wandering off so far? Where's his mom?"

"Hinata, did you see the mother when you placed the fox into the garden?" Naruto inquired.

She shook her head. "It ran off when I stepped outside."

Naruto disliked the creature who was trying to get his attention and he shivered slightly. Foxes were a bad omen, and he did not like that he was being followed.

"Put it down. I'm sure it will find his way." Naruto said, walking off.

"But sir!" Hinata interjected. "We-

"Nope, nope." Naruto said, shoving his hands into his pocket. "I've already done too many nice deeds and I don't think I have anymore left in me," He walked away.

Hinata puffed out her cheek and placed the fox down. "I'm sorry little guy," She scratched the top of his head. "I wish I could bring you home, but the master forbids me. Please take care of yourself." As much as it hurt her to leave the little creature by the side of the road, she knew she had too.

"Why does Naruto hate foxes so much?"

Hinata shrugged. "He says it's a symbol of death and bad omen."

"Do you believe in those stories?" He whispered.

"I don't know, but the fox is so adorable," She sighed. "I just want to hold him."

Konohamaru smiled. "When I get rich Hinata, I'm going to open up a house full of cute animals just for you."

"You would do that for me?" She giggled. "You're so sweet, Konohamaru."

.

.

.

Naruto walked sheepishly upstairs. His eyes were terribly low, and he felt disoriented. Lately, he had a hard time falling asleep and sometimes would only get a few hours (three) of rest before he was up.

The medication Dr. Tsunade had given him used to work, but now it did nothing for him. He knew it wasn't good and how important sleep was. There was an article about it, but his constant thoughts kept him up.

He used the rail to steady him as he made his way up. Hinata and Konohamaru were fast asleep and soon it would be him, even if it was just for a little while.

He pushed the door opened and flicked the light switch up. As he was about to take off his clothes, his eyes widened in disbelief when he saw the little fox sitting on his bed.

Naruto gritted his teeth and he lounged for the fox, but it was too quick, and it jumped off the bed and onto his head.

He tried to grab it, but it moved swiftly.

Naruto groaned loudly and he stood up. The fox licked its paws while it stared at him.

"Why must you torture me?" He whispered out. "Why must you follow me? Who else is going to die? Who else are you going to take away from me?" He asked at the daunting fox.

The fox continued to lick its paw and Naruto jumped towards it.

The sun quickly rose, and Naruto lied defeated on his bed while the fox laid, triumphally, on the top of his head.

His eyes were a little red, and dark eyebags formed around his eyes. It was a struggle last night and he hadn't even gotten a wink of sleep.

There was a silent knock on his bedroom door, and he groaned out, "Come in."

Hinata pushed the door opened, slowly, and she stared dumbfounded at Naruto who was still in his clothes from last night and the baby fox lying on his head. He looked at Hinata and raised his paw as if saying, "Good morning,"

Hinata giggled and she stepped into the room until she was beside Naruto's bedside.

"Sir, I just knew you couldn't resist." She smiled.

Naruto rubbed the middle of his forehead and turned to face Hinata. She was surprised to see how tired he looked. "Naruto, didn't you get any sleep last night?"

"No," He yawned out. "I've fought with this devil all last night," He shook his head. The fox landed into Hinata's arms and cuddled against her chest.

"All night?" She said, worriedly. "Sir, sleep is important. You should get some shut eye." She said, placing the fox on the cushioned chair besides the bed. The bed creaked when Naruto sat up and began unbuttoning his shirt. "Let me do that for you," Hinata said, easily moving Naruto's hands to the side.

His head bobbed up and down and his eyes fluttered opened. "You're sleepy. You shouldn't fight it," She pulled the buttoned shirt off him.

"I know," He held his head. "Get rid of that damn fox. Burn it or something for all I care," He leaned back on the bed and turned his back on Hinata.

Hinata gasped loudly. "Sir, don't say such a cruel thing."

"It's not a cruel thing," He yawned once more.

"Why do you hate them so much?" Hinata asked, picking the fox into her hands.

"Because they are a bad omen," He closed his eyes.

"But how do you know that sir?"

"Because I saw one a day, we got the news that my father was killed, and one followed me for weeks until my mother died," He said, unaware of what he was telling Hinata. "They're bad omen, and I don't want to lose anyone close to me."

Hinata closed the door behind her, and she stared at the fox who touched her nose. "Are you here to bring Naruto some bad news?"

The fox shook his head as if he understood what Hinata had asked.

"I figured, but still, you can understand why Naruto doesn't like your kind?" She held it close to her heart. "I will bring you back to where we found you. Your mother is probably looking for you." She walked down the stairs.

The door opened and Hinata peeked from the staircase and she was surprised to see Konohamaru walking in.

It was almost noon and she hadn't seen Konohamaru all morning.

"Konohamaru," She called out.

He jumped by the mention of his name and turned around and hid his hands behind his back. "Hinata? Is everything okay? Why are you coming down the stairs?"

"I prepared breakfast, but I noticed Naruto was not down yet," She eyed the boy suspiciously, "and I wanted to check on him."

"Oh, I see," He laughed nervously. "I'll be down to eat breakfast; I was just um- outside. I'll be back!" He said, before running to his room.

Hinata glanced down at the fox who looked at her. "Do you think he is courting somebody?"

The fox shrugged as a response.

"I suppose not, are you hungry? Let's eat."

.

.

.

Wiping down the kitchen countertop, Hinata stared lovingly outside the kitchen's window. Konohamaru was running up and down in the garden and would do pushups every time he'd reach one end.

Hinata covered her mouth when she felt a slight giggle or two try to escape her mouth.

"Silly boy, what is he doing?"

She turned to her side and her shoulders trembled. Naruto blinked innocently at her when he noticed and cocked his head to the side. "Are you okay, Hinata?"

"Besides YOU almost giving me a heart attack, I'm fine!" She said, holding her chest. "What are you doing up, sir?" Her eyes travelled to the clock that was above the front entrance of the kitchen. "You've only been asleep for three hours or less. Go back to bed," Hinata tried to push him through the brown door, but it was no use. He didn't even move a hair.

Naruto glanced back, amused when the girl stopped and glared at him. "I'm not sleepy anymore."

"The eyebags under your eyes says so otherwise," She crossed her arms. Now that she noticed, they were obviously dark. Maybe it was spending the days trying to fix up the new orphanage, but that couldn't be the case. "Sir, are you not sleeping well?"

Silence struck them, only momentarily, before Naruto parted his lips to say, "I'm fine."

Hinata had a hard time believing that, especially with this morning's confession. "I can make-

Naruto's eyes glared at the fox that jumped on Hinata's head and the two stared at one another; one had a playful light that flicker in its eyes, while the other had nothing but animosity.

"I thought I told you to get rid of that thing."

"Ah, I will. I was going to drop it in the garden when reach Yumi's place, sir."

He let out a soft sigh and turned on his heels. "We'll leave in the next hour. Yumi and the children should already be moved in."

"I think it was rather nice for you to hire some town's people to assist,"

"I wouldn't expect them to manage," Naruto mumbled.

"Are you hungry? Perhaps, I can make you a sandwich for lunch?" Hinata piped up. "Sit down!" She grabbed him by his hand and led him to the table.

Sitting down, he placed his arms on the table and observed the fox that decided to sit in front of him. "I've never seen a fox with such peculiar eyes." Naruto mentioned.

"That's what I said, but now looking at it I imagine that's how you would look if you were a fox, sir." She couldn't help but giggle. "You two have the same eyes!"

Naruto frowned by the bare mention of him resembling a devil. It wouldn't be his first time hearing those words.

Hinata placed a plate with a sandwich cut in half in front of him. "Here you go," She said, sitting a cup of lukewarm green tea next to it. The fox stared hungrily at the food, until Hinata placed a miniature sandwich down for the fox to eat. "There you go little guy. You sure can eat," She said, rubbing his head.

Naruto couldn't help but scoff. "It even acts human."

"He's quite adorable and I honestly believe he has taken a liking to you. You shouldn't be quick to cast it to the side," Hinata replied, taking a seat across from Naruto.

"It's going to be nothing but misery having that thing here," He said, sipping on the green tea.

Hinata's eyebrows furrowed while she rubbed the fox's back. "I understand your reasoning for hating it, but don't you believe it's rather silly?" The question was more innocent, and she wanted nothing but to take this fear away from her master.

"Silly?" He mumbled.

Hinata's face paled and she stuttered, "I-I-I w-wasn't meaning you sir!"

"Am I so quick to anger that you and Konohamaru always have to go in a stuttering frenzy?" He bit into the sandwich. "I've seen first hand the messages those things bring. It always leads to death."

"Maybe they're here to comfort you." Hinata whispered.

"Comfort me?"

She nodded eagerly and then she bit her lips. "While you were going to sleep, you told me the reason you hated foxes."

Silence.

"Maybe if you dig deep in your memories, you will see that those foxes were there to comfort you."

"Foxes can only turn evil if their master is corrupted. They are benevolent creatures, my little Naru." Kushina said, kissing him on his forehead. "You're an Uzumaki and foxes have always been our greatest allies."

Naruto wrapped his little arms tightly around his mother's arm as she steadily led him to the fox that had his butt stuck in the air. He shook his head as he remembered the stories, they shared in school about Konoha's battle with the strongest fox, "Kyuubi no kitsune."

Kushina pushed him just a little to face the fox and he let out a terrible screech when the fox playfully lounge on him.

His mother giggled uncontrollably at the expense of her son's tears. "My sweet boy," She said, picking him up. "Everything will be okay," She cuddled him. His cries did ease up, and he wrapped his arms around her neck, unaware of her own tears.

"Naruto," Hinata called out. She placed her hand on his shoulder when she didn't get a response. "Maybe you should go lay down. We still have sometime before we visit the orphanage."

"Okay," He said, not putting up a fight.

Hinata helped him and walked him over to the parlor before she lied him down on the red sofa. He placed his hand on his forehead and gazed at the ceiling as he was in deep thought.

She stared worriedly at her master. She grabbed a cushioned chair and placed it on the side of him.

"Are you thinking, sir?"

Turning his head slightly to face her, he nodded. "I suppose I am. Do you remember your childhood, Hinata? Before all the madness in the world started for us?"

"I do!" He watched her as she told him stories about her childhood, and the Hyuga way. She was so excited to tell him everything that she didn't miss a beat nor stumbled on her words. A soft smile formed on his face and he nodded just to let her know he was listening. In the midst of telling her story, the fox made its way onto Naruto's stomach and lied there as he too, listened to Hinata.

Naruto hummed. "The Hyuga way seems so traditional and stern." He couldn't imagine not having the freedom to do what he pleased. "We should be on our way," He said, getting up with little disregard for the fox that leaped to Hinata. "Then we can get rid of that,"

"Hai, hai," She said, disappointed.

.

.

.

Konohamaru raced alongside the fox that ran down the lane. He was losing, terribly and he leaned over to catch his breath.

Naruto unlocked the gates to the new orphanage, and they were greeted by some of the children who played in the garden.

"What took you so long?"

"I thought we wouldn't see you anymore."

"Thank you!"

They led Naruto to the entrance of the household and Yumi greeted them with opened arms.

"Can you imagine the look of shock I had on my face when we were escorted here? She laughed. "I thought they had taken us to the wrong place,"

Hinata beamed with joy at Yumi. She'd look so much younger and overjoyed. Her eyes lit up, especially when looking at Naruto.

"I'm glad it's to your liking," Naruto replied.

"We're still exploring. I, I just don't know how I can repay you, Naruto. You've done such a good thing for me, for us."

"I only ask that you keep your promise," Naruto reminded.

"Yumi, where is Marco?" Hinata asked, searching the children's faces.

"Marco is outside with the others." Yumi responded.

"Hinata, don't forget what I told you," Naruto said.

"Hai, hai."

"Konohamaru, why don't you join Hinata outside. Yumi, can you follow me briefly."

Hinata eyed her master and sighed under her breath. She wouldn't pretend to notice that Naruto pulled Yumi to the side in secrecy.

"Let's go Hinata. I'm sure Marco will be happy to see you," Konohamaru pointed out. He pulled her, carefully, outside while she held onto the fox that tried to squirm out of her hands to get to Naruto.

"I wonder what's going on with him," Hinata said, looking down at the unhappy fox.

"It seems he really likes Naruto." Konohamaru nodded. "Too bad the master doesn't like him." He ran towards the group of children who was playing kickball.

"You must be on your way," Hinata said, walking towards the back gate of the house. "I suppose you know your way home, and your mother misses you." She placed the fox down on the grass and kneeled next to him. "Naruto, he doesn't want you around and it seems you only bring him grief. I know I know." She said, when the fox shook his head. "I'm afraid of what he might do to you if you continue messing with him." Her eyes watered when she saw the fox lie on his back. She rubbed his tummy and he purred. "I tried to change his mind, but I can't. I'm not even good enough to listen in on the conversation between him and Yumi. Do you ever think he'll see me as somebody other than a maid?"

The fox stared worriedly at the girl and he tried to prance on her, but she held him back. "You're not evil, but a comforter. You're here to comfort Naruto because you see something, huh?"

"Hi…na…ta," A little hand touched her back and she wiped her eyes before she turned around.

"Marco!" She exclaimed as she held tightly onto the boy. "I've missed you so much!"

"Miss you too!" He wrapped his arms around her as she lifted him from the ground.

The fox retreated through the fence and made his way through the bushes. Hinata looked down after a while and noticed the fox was no longer there.

Yumi followed Naruto to one of the staircases and watched him strangely as he tapped on the side of the painted stair's wall. Her eyes widened in disbelief when there was a slight crack, and he pushed the door open.

"Is this a secret tunnel?"

Naruto nodded when he flicked the gas light. "Follow me," He bent under the staircase as he was a little taller, and he guided Yumi through the secret entrance. "Watch your step," He held out his hand to her. She grabbed it, and he held it gently as he guided her down the stairs.

Once they were down the stairs, Naruto pulled the beaded rope down and the once dark room had light.

Yumi glanced around and gasped when she saw the bunker.

"Yumi, you must not say a word to any outsiders." Naruto spoke. "This shelter is going to help you and the kids if there is ever a time of war. You must act quick and swiftly and bring the children down here."

"B-but w-why?" Her eyes travelled around the shelfs that had perishable canned goods on them.

"Tensions are high, and this will protect your household. Only few know about these underground tunnels."

"We won't need something like this ever again." She faced him. "Those times are over, are they not?"

Naruto lowered his head. "I can only dream, and I am not sure of what's to come, but you must protect yourself and the children. I do this, not to scare you, but it is only right you know. When that alarm ring, act fast. There is enough to last you and the children, but if you must move when the time comes." He pointed to the metal door. "There is a passage way that will lead you to the Valley of the end. Be mindful of who you share this secret with."

"You think there will be another war, huh?" Yumi looked down. "I know things aren't the greatest and there's even rivalry amongst our own people. Will Konoha ever get better?"

"We can only pray, but please don't fret." He handed her a silver key. "Keep this and it will get you through those metal doors. I didn't want there to be in surprises, Yumi."

"Thank you," She said, holding the key close to her chest.

"I wish you all the best."

.

.

.

Morning came faster than it did yesterday, and Naruto held his head. There was a dull ache that did not ease up the minute he woke up.

A week had past since his last project and Yumi and the children were well adjusted. He gave Hinata and Konohamaru some time off to visit and play with the children as there was not much to do in the house. In fact, he never found it necessary to have a maid or butler here since there was only one of him. He was grateful for the food every morning, and that his clothes were washed, but it almost seemed it was a wifely duty.

Maybe it wasn't necessary to have a maid.

He felt something soft brushed past his foot, and he draw his feet back on the bed and looked down.

"Bastard fox!"

The fox grinned and went on his two legs and begged to be picked up. Naruto kicked it, not too harshly and stormed off. With the dull pain in his head and that damn fox was enough to put him 6ft under, and not to mention the lack of sleep!

Outside the garden, Sakura and Ino had came an hour ago to speak with Hinata, well mostly Sakura who had formulated a plan.

As much as Hinata wanted to see home, she was unsure as she did not want to upset Naruto.

"Come on Hinata. You even said you wanted to visit." Sakura whined. "Naruto has given you time off with pay, right? So, why don't we use this opportunity to see home. It's not like you'll be gone the entire day and we'll be back before supper." She urged. "Come on."

"I don't know, Sakura," Hinata said, unsurely. "If Naruto were to find out, then he would be more upset with me than you," She frowned. "And I don't want to destroy what little trust he has with me."

"Naruto won't get upset with you, Hinata. I believe he has developed a soft spot for you since he treats you so well." Sakura kicked her legs back and forth while the three girls sat on the stoned bench. "And plus! I would really like to see the Hyuga Library, please," She begged as she clasped her hands together. "It's been my wish to see your family's library ever since I read up on it."

"Sakura," Ino started. "If Hinata says no, then it is no. Don't pressure her."

She glared at Ino, then shot Hinata with her big-jaded eyes that sparkled. "Please," She whimpered.

Hinata couldn't sway at the sight of Sakura's puppy eyes and she gave in. "Fine, but what do you suppose I tell Naruto for my absence? I already visited the orphanage not too long ago to help Yumi prepare breakfast."

"I have an idea!" Sakura jumped up. "Follow me."

Naruto went back and forth with the fox and he even threw a punch at it, but it was no use. The fox was fast as he was cunning. His fist trembled and he snapped his head to Sakura's direction when she called out to him.

"What?" He groaned out.

"Hmph!" She crossed her arms. "Somebody is in a bad mood." Her eyes widened when she saw the little fox crawl on Naruto's shoulder. "Why is there a fox here?"

Ino was just as surprised.

"You're asking me? "He blew up. "I've been trying to get rid of him for weeks now!"

"You must get rid of it," Sakura warned.

"I know. I know."

"You don't believe in those stories too, do you Sakura? Ino?"

"I most certainly do!" Sakura nodded.

"They are not a good presence to be surrounded by," Ino added.

"What are you two doing here unannounced?" Naruto let out a sigh.

"Well, Hinata told us you have given her some time off so we wanted to ask if we can take her to a new tea café that just opened up. I heard they've got some delicious pastries all the way from France and Germany!" Sakura exclaimed. "I've been wanting to try them with Ino and Hinata. It's a little past east of the market place, and a lot of my friends go there. Do you mind if I take her?"

Naruto tried to grab the fox from his head, and he groaned. "Yes, yes," He fanned them away. "Be careful," He caught the fox by his tail and grinned madly.

Hinata stared at the fox worriedly.

"Awesome! We'll be back before supper time," Sakura said, dragging Hinata before she could utter a word to Naruto.

Konohamaru stood by the opened door of Hinata's room, and he knocked. Glancing over her shoulder, she smiled when she saw him.

"Hey Konohamaru,"

"Must you go? I overheard your conversation with Sakura, and I was not trying to ease drop, but Naruto told you no. It would be wrong to be dishonest with him.

"I know, but Sakura assured me Naruto would not be upset and besides, I will be back before supper time," She grabbed a small drawstring bag.

"But-

"Please don't tell him, Konohamaru." Hinata pleaded. "I promise, I will be back before supper, but I really want to see home. You understand right?"

He chewed on the bottom of his lips. "I know, but it might be a little dangerous. Maybe you should wait for Naruto to bring you."

"But I don't want to wait," She whispered. "I've been waiting for fourteen years now. Why must I wait any longer?"

"I understand-

"Please, Konohamaru."

He gazed at her lovingly and sigh. "Fine, but you must be back before supper time or I will tell Naruto."

Hinata smiled graciously and she bowed. "Hai! I'll be back before then. I promise you!" And with those words, she quickly left before Konohamaru could change his mind.

Naruto tapped his fingers against the wooden desk as he was in deep thought. He still had a dull pain pulsing in his head, but having the fox sitting on his head made it a little bearable. The fight with the fox had tired him out, and he didn't want to fight with it anymore.

His mind suddenly drifted to Hinata. Sometimes she was the reason he could not sleep as he laid hours upon hours thinking about her.

He was unsure why she plagued his mind, but there was something she did to him that made him want to make her happy. The dull pain went away briefly, and he wiped his face, harshly.

There was a knock on the half-opened door, and he saw Konohamaru's brown hair sticking out.

"I don't need you for anything, Konohamaru. Enjoy your days off,"

"Thank you, sir, but you have a visitor, Mr. Uchiha." He called out.

"You can let him in."

Konohamaru pushed the door opened and stepped into room. Sasuke followed behind him and he paused.

He glanced at Konohamaru, then at Naruto. He held his mouth and let out a light chuckle when he saw a small baby fox sitting on his head.

"What do you want?" Naruto's left eyebrow twitch in annoyance.

"Why is there a fox on your head?"

"It won't leave me alone! It's been tormenting me for the pass few weeks now," Naruto whined. "Just when I think it's gone, it shows up again!" He shook his head violently which made the fox jump to the table.

"Maybe it's karma for the way you treat people," Sasuke laughed.

"Ha. Ha, very funny. Besides, you know having this fox here is not a good sign." Naruto replied.

"I don't believe in those folklores and stories." Sasuke shrugged.

The fox jumped on Naruto's shoulder and rubbed its side against his face. Naruto sighed. "What are you doing here?"

Konohamaru stood quietly in the corner, waiting for Naruto to dismiss him but he never did, or he possibly had forgotten.

"Itachi informed me he had seen Sakura and Ino along with Hinata not too long ago." Sasuke mentioned. "He was a little concerned as they were heading north past the market place without a male companion. You know it's dangerous for them to be walking around without a male chaperone."

"I was worried too, but you know how stubborn Sakura and Ino are. I'm afraid they're going to rub off on Hinata. She's been a little bold as of late," He mumbled the last part. "I believe she said they were heading to a tea shop not too far from the market place which is still a good area."

Konohamaru listened, unintentionally and he suddenly chewed down on his bottom lip. He didn't want Hinata to get into trouble for being disobedient, but they were going too deep into the northside without a male presence. He knew Naruto had a soft spot for Hinata, so maybe he wouldn't be to upset with them.

"Excuse me sir," Konohamaru said, lowering his head. "If I may speak."

"What is it?" Naruto asked, forgetting Konohamaru was still there.

The young boy shifted uncomfortably and twiddled his index finger. "Forgive me sir, but I overheard Lady Sakura speaking with Hinata and I did not mean to ease drop on their conversation, but-

"But what?" Naruto interrupted. Konohamaru quickly glance at Sasuke who was staring at him, intensely, then his eyes darted to the fox that was waiting for an answer as well. "But what?" Naruto asked between clenched teeth.

"I overheard Lady Sakura encouraging Hinata to visit home even after you forbid her from doing so, and I'm afraid that's where they're heading now."

"Shit!" He slammed his hands on the table which made the poor fox jumped.

"Konohamaru, you should have said something sooner." Sasuke spoke up.

He couldn't help but tremble. "I swore to Hinata I wouldn't, but I'm sorry."

"You don't really think Sakura is going to actually take Hinata to the Hyuga household?" Sasuke inquired. "Does she not know?"

"It's the only reason they'll be heading north," Naruto responded, bitterly. "And I'm afraid she doesn't as she wouldn't have suggested it."

Sasuke frowned. "Surely you know she would want to see home sooner or later. Wouldn't it have been best to tell her the reason she shouldn't go?" He raised his eyebrow slightly. Naruto sighed softly and glared at the fox that tried to get his attention. "What are you going to do?"

"They already have great distance between us. I'm afraid there's not much I can do once she sees it."

"I'm sorry, sir. I should have told you right away," Konohamaru shouted. "I-

"It's not your fault," Naruto frowned. "It's best we leave before it gets any later. Konohamaru, go get my co-

"Naruto!" Konohamaru stumbled sideway as he was pushed to the side, and both Sasuke and Naruto's head snapped towards the red hair intruder.

Naruto looked over Karin who'd look disheveled and flushed. Now was not the time to entertain her nor her shenanigans. "Karin now is not the time. I have important matters to attend to."

She shook her head like a lose canon and the tears splattered all over the floor. "Nagato is dead. Mother found him hanging from the ceiling!" She cried hysterically.

Both Naruto and Sasuke's eyes widened, and Konohamaru covered his mouth in shock. Naruto felt his heart sunk to the bottom of his stomach and he squeezed his fist tightly while he glared at the fox.

"Konohamaru, my coat, now." Naruto demanded. "Hurry up!"

Konohamaru quickly scattered to his feet and ran past Karin.

"I'm sorry to hear that, Karin. I will meet with you this afternoon, but I-

"Wait, you're not coming?"

"My priorities are elsewhere, and-

"Priorities?" Karin spatted. "Nagato is dead! Your priorities should be with your family, grieving!" She yelled at him. "Whatever prior engagements you have, you must end it. Mother is hysterical and the household is in shambles!"

"I'm sorry Karin," Naruto said, trying to make a fuss. "I will see you tonight,"

Her arms fell to her side, loosely, in disbelief. "I know mother has not been the best mother to you, but if you can't do it for her then do it for me." Her voice cracked, and the tears fell like a waterfall. "Please," She squeaked out.

"Sir, your coat." Konohamaru said, handing it to him.

"Karin," Naruto said, approaching her. He went to hug her, but she slapped his hand away.

"Fuck you."

"Such a filthy mouth," Sasuke said. "I'm sure Naruto is grieving on the inside and wants to be there for you, but you must be patient and he will come to you."

Karin shot him a glare, before turning her back on him. "I hate you!" She shouted before running away.

"Naruto," Sasuke said, placing his hand on his shoulder. "I-

"Now is not the time, Sasuke. We have already stalled for to long." Naruto said, walking off.

Hinata took a deep breath as she stared at the Hyuga manor before her. Wood lied about just everywhere and the roof to the manor was caved in. The garden no longer flourished and the pond that sat just outside was a dirty murky color.

Ino felt uneasy about this and she wanted to turn back.

"Hinata, are you ready?" Sakura asked.

She nodded; her eyes focused on the dismantled household. "Do you remember where the library is?" She inquired.

"It's on the far-right side," She said pointing to the far end. "I'll be on this side. I want to see something," Her voice grew softer.

"Are you going to be okay by yourself?" Ino asked.

"Yes," She whispered. "T-thank you."

Ino watched as Hinata disappeared into the courtyard of the manor. Sakura's eyes twinkled enthusiastically and pulled Ino on the opposite side to the library.

"I can't wait! They've got the biggest library and a lot of medical books about the human body, Ino. Of course, it's just rumors but I believe it's true. This would be a breakthrough into today's medical field. We can heal so many people if we had those books." Sakura chattered on. "And Dr. Tsunade is super smart so she'll most likely further our knowledge."

"Sakura, do you really think this was a good idea? I don't know, but I feel really uneasy." Ino said, holding her stomach.

"Don't tell me you're afraid," Sakura giggled. "Don't worry, I'll protect you."

Ino didn't say another word and the two entered the right flank of the house.

Not too far, Sakura was able to locate the Hyuga's library and did her extensive research. The floorboards creaked with each step, and every once in a while, Ino would jump when she heard the room "breathe". She folded her arms and tried to rub the goosebumps that formed on her white skin.

The sun seeped into the room and Sakura was having herself a ball. She flipped through each page, reading briefly about the contents before deciding it was good enough and placing it in her pouch.

"I'll ask Hinata if I can take some of these with me. I'm sure she won't mind."

Ino decided to look through some of the scrolls left behind and she was surprised to find some old techniques to control the mind. This was something the Yamanka's were known for and it helped with interrogations and mentally breaking people.

She looked over another scroll for a breathing technique that calmed the mind and allowed tension to be released. She was surprised at these old practices as they would have become something useful for Konoha's people.

She decided too that she would ask Hinata for some of these treasures. As she turned to the other aisle, she froze.

Sakura grabbed another book titled: The State of Mind. This was probably something Ino would like as it was one of her family practices, so she decided to bag it. She couldn't help but smile as she was able to find some books about healing and the human body even under all of these rumbles.

The Hyugas were well-organized people. Even under all these piles, some bookshelves remained up and even had labels on them to find certain books. Just as she was about to pick up another book, she heard a terrible shriek from Ino.

Sakura stumbled as she ran to Ino.

"Ino!" She yelled. The girl was trembling from behind and she ran to her side. "Are you okay? Are you hurt?"

Ino pointed her trembling finger ahead, and Sakura slowly looked to where she was pointing.

Her eyes widened when she saw a few skeletons laid throughout the aisle, some long, some small. Her heart started to beat fast, and she stepped back.

"W-why are there remains here?" She covered her mouth. Ino also stepped back, but she stumbled backwards and fell to the dirty ground. "Ino!"

She turned her head to the side, and she let out a terrible scream when she saw a corpse's head staring directly at her.

Sakura quickly pulled her to her feet and dusted her off. "W-why aren't they buried?" Ino asked, staring at Sakura.

Memories flooded her mind as she walked down the halls to her compound. Despite the dismantled walls and floorboard, all she could think about was what used to be. A long narrow path where she and Hanabi used to run to get away from their cousin/big brother Neji.

She remembered how her mother scolded them and said young ladies are to be seen and not heard. She couldn't help but smile.

Her fingers ran down the long walls, and the tears gathered in her eyes.

Maids bowed at her as she made her way down the halls and she heard a soft giggle from behind her. She held her kimono and she ran down the hall as she imagined her young sister, Hanabi chasing her.

Laughter escaped her lips, and she halted when she saw her father walked in front of her with a stern look. It was hard to tell if the man was angry or happy, but she knew right away when he picked her up and lifted her in the air.

"Now, Hinata, what has your mother told you about running down the halls with your sister?"

"Sorry, papa."

She held onto the wall for support, and she slid down until she'd reach the floor.

She suddenly sprung up and ran down the halls and turned some corners as if her life depended on it. All she could see what used to be, and not what was there in front of her.

Her heart pounded against her chest when she stood in front of the sliding door and she took a deep breath.

"Papa! Mama! I'm home!" She said, sliding the door open.

The sun's light blinded her vision, momentarily and her smile faded.

.

.

"Maybe they're not Hyugas." Sakura tried to justify what they had just witness.

"Sakura," Ino frowned. She didn't have the strength to argue with Sakura. "There are skeletons lying throughout!"

"But why would the Hokage leave them as is. I'm sure there was a proper burial for the Hyugas. I'm sure Hinata will confirm it." Sakura grinned. Ino stopped and glared at Sakura. "What?"

"This is what Kiba was talking about!" Ino said, finding the strength. "We're so oblivious to what's going on. Sakura, those were Hyugas! There was never a proper burial. He left them there! He left them there!" Ino balled her fist and kept stomping her feet on the ground. "There's no proper burial! He doesn't care about the Hyugas nor the remaining heiress. Why do you think Hinata is treated the way she's treated? Why is she a maid working for low wages? Why are there rumors about her? It's because Hinata was born a woman and he simply doesn't give a damn about the Hyugas!" She screamed at the top of her lungs.

Ino's chest raised up and down. She had never been so angry in her life and angry with herself. Had she had her head so far up her ass that she was blind to everything?

Sakura's eyes watered and her grip tightened around the strap of her bag.

"This is why Naruto told you no. This is what he was trying to prevent Hinata from seeing. I'm afraid we've really done it if Hinata sees it."

"Maybe she won't." Sakura whispered. "Let's find her, and- and leave." She wiped her eyes. "Let's-

The birds scattered in the background and both Sakura and Ino looked at the direction a sharp scream came from.

"Hinata!" Sakura shouted as she ran in her direction.

.

.

.

Hinata fell to her knees and she screamed loudly. She held her hair and started to pull at it as her eyes soaked in every detail, every scenery. Shattered windows, caved in rooftop, burnt rugs and wallpapers, but nothing would prepare her for what she'd witness.

"Papa! Mama!" She cried.

In the middle of her parent's room, lied two skeletons holding on to one another. The tears streamed down, and her vision was blurry. She got up shakenly and left the room. Whatever was lounged in her throat would not go down and she had a hard time breathing. She'd look back and forth and saw some of the remains of her cousins, her family throughout the hall she had just ran down. The scored walls burnt all the way to the wooden floors, and skeletons laid just about everywhere.

She picked up her speed and continued to run, to run far away from what she had just seen.

"Hinata!" Sakura shouted when she saw the girl running out the left wing.

Ino placed her hands on her knees as she was tired from the little sprint. "Hinata!" Sakura screamed when she saw the girl crying hysterically. "Hinata, listen to me," She placed her hands on each of her cheeks. "You need to breathe. You're not breathing!"

Hinata's face turned red, and she tried to listen to Sakura's words, but she couldn't. That lump was still lodged into her throat and the tears were beginning to burn.

"They, they," She pushed Sakura's hands away and shook her head.

"I- I- must go," She tried to wipe the tears away, "Naruto. I must see Naruto," She was finally able to say. "I- Her head was spinning, and she held her stomach and fell to the ground. "I- I can't breathe," She cried.

Sakura was hurt. Not hurt at Hinata's actions but her own. It was her own selfish desire to see the Hyuga Library. She didn't once take note of how Hinata would feel during this delicate situation.

Ino placed her hand on Hinata's back. "We'll take you to him, Hinata but you must breathe." She kept rubbing the middle of her back.

Hinata squeezed her eyes shut as she felt her body go weak and her chest tightened.

"Hinata," Ino said, trying to help her up, but it was no use. She wouldn't budge.

"I'm, I'm sorry," Sakura spoke softly. "I didn't know."

Ino pulled Sakura to the side when she saw the known figure approach them. She hanged her head in shame as she could sense a tense hatred for her and Sakura emerge from his eyes.

"Na- Sakura was about to apologize when Ino pulled her towards Sasuke and Konohamaru who stood by the gates.

She could see it in Sasuke's eyes that he was disappointed, and he shook his head as disapproval. Then there was Konohamaru who stood there, shock. He wanted to comfort Hinata, especially in this time of need, but they were close enough to hear her call for Naruto.

Hinata tried to swallow the lump, she tried to breathe but she couldn't. Her fingers trembled and she lowered her head. There wasn't any noise outside. She didn't know if it was a good or bad thing. She couldn't feel anything. She couldn't feel the sharp rocks tearing into her knee caps or the pebbles sticking into the palm of her hands.

Her vision went in and out, and before she knew it, she was crying into Naruto's chest. He wrapped his arms around her and held her tightly. She could hear herself crying, she could hear the birds chirping in the background and she could hear his heartbeat racing. She swallowed the invisible lump in her throat, and she was able to breathe once more.

He picked her off the ground and sat her on his lap. "I know, I know. Let it all out," He whispered. Hearing that made her cry louder and he rocked her back and forth, while removing the rocks stuck in the fabric of the kimono and the palm of her hands.

Both Sakura and Ino lowered their heads as Sasuke let them have it.

"What you two did was disobedient and downright disrespectful," Sasuke glared harshly at them. Konohamaru nodded at every word Sasuke spewed.

"We didn't know," Sakura mumbled.

"When the answer is no, it is no." He spat. "Despite everything you know about Naruto, I'm ashamed that you would go behind his back and do something like this. Do you really think Naruto wouldn't let Hinata visit her home if the situation was not like this?"

"We'll take responsibility." Ino said, looking at Sasuke.

"Take responsibility?" Sasuke shook his head. "You two don't realize how serious this situation is and the burden you've added to Naruto."

"We're sorry, but it was all me. Please don't blame Ino," Sakura cried. "Ino felt uneasy and wanted to leave, but I forced her in there. It was all me,"

"Ino has a will of her own and should have stopped you no matter what," Sasuke said as a matter of fact. "You've just added another rumor to Naruto's reputation."

"How? No one is going to know if we-

"Sakura, Nagato died not too long ago." Konohamaru said. Although Konohamaru was immature, he knew what Sasuke was talking about. A master went to his maid during a time of grievance. He balled his fist now that he knew that Hinata's name would be smeared through the muds even more.

Ino gasped, and Sakura's mouth hung open.

"Karin reported to us before we came here." Sasuke turned his back on them. "This situation is not going to be in Naruto's favor nor Hinata's. Let's go, the three of you." He glanced over his shoulder. "We have a funeral to get ready for."

.

.

.

Night was approaching fast, and he was grateful to see Konohamaru outside with a lantern. Hinata was fast asleep on his back and he tried to walk as slowly as he could so he would not disturb her.

"Konohamaru, did you get my black yukata out?" Naruto asked as he made his way to the maid's entrance.

"Hai, I will fetch it for you,"

"I'll get it myself. Please stay with Hinata and do not leave her side. I'll be back shortly."

"But sir, you must stay with your family. You're still their family and it will only cause more problems." Konohamaru argued.

Naruto placed Hinata on the futon and his shoulders lowered. "The minute Karin walked out of that door without me, I was no longer considered family. I must be on my way." He walked past Konohamaru but stopped in his tracks. Konohamaru looked up at him when he ruffled his head. "Don't worry. Everything will be all right."

Naruto sighed when he walked down the pathway to the Uzumaki manor. All goers stopped talking and they all looked at him. He knew the news would be out soon as some people saw him carrying the Hyuga girl, but he didn't know news would travel so quickly.

He walked inside and everyone moved away from him as he made his way to the front. He could hear his aunt crying hysterically and the other siblings weeping.

"Why did you come here?"

Naruto stared down at Karin and she balled her fist. He could hear the hurt and pain in her voice and that she was trying to hold it in. The room took a silence turn and all eyes were on the pair.

"How dare you show your face here?" She sunk her nails into the palm of her hands and chewed down on her bottom lips. "Have you no shame?" She snarled. "Your priorities were with your maid. A filthy maid who holds no title. A dirty maid who has no relation to you!" She swung her arm to the side. "Is blood not thicker than water, brother?"

"I'm sorry," He muttered out.

Karin's eyes widened and she laughed bitterly before she covered her eyes and cried her soul out. He wanted to comfort her, to hold her, but Yuki came and wrapped his arms around her. He glared at Naruto through the corner of his eyes.

Naruto placed his knees on the purple pillow and clasped his hands together two times before he closed his eyes. The picture of Nagato in his younger days burned deep within his soul. It was his fault like everything else.

He got up slowly and walked over to his uncle and aunt. Sebastian looked at him briefly and stared into the void atmosphere.

"W-what did he say to you?" Saya choked out. "D-did he mention anything to you?"

Naruto shook his head. "He did not."

"B-but he was with you. He visited you." Her voice grew louder. "He spent his last days visiting you," Her bottom lip trembled. "W-what did you do to him?"

"I did nothing," He replied softly. He did nothing at all.

That gnawing feeling wash over him, and he stood there unsurely. "You've always been a wicked child." She teared up and covered her mouth. "You're so wicked." She cried.

Yuno approached her mother and gave her a tight hug. She gazed at Naruto softly and nodded. "It's best you leave, Naru."

Yuno had always been the softer and caring one and quite understanding for a young woman who was raised by his Aunt Saya. Deep down inside, she couldn't understand her siblings and mother reactions. Nagato was a dead man. There was nothing anyone could do.

Naruto bowed slightly and walked out of the manor. Everyone turned on him, and then they started whispering amongst one another.

"Perhaps it is true," He turned around and saw Karin with a few others standing by the door. "It looks like fucking the maid is more important than family. You even denied her an engagement." She scoffed. "You're a shameless man and you had me fooled. I hate you Naruto Namikaze!" She stomped her foot to the ground before she ran through the nosey crowd.

All eyes narrowed at him and he sighed. He was enraged and he wanted so much to tell Karin off, tell his Aunt off and his uncle. Family was important, but Nagato was dead and Hinata was alive and would have possibly died. Why would he want to lose two people he held a special place in his heart?

"Such a haughty girl to say such a thing. She has no right speaking to the Namikaze heir in that tone. I will make sure to speak with Saya and correct her daughter."

Naruto turned around and bowed. "Lord Hokage. She's only grieving so please don't worry about the matter. It's only natural." Danzo nodded. "And again, thank you for the approval on moving the children and getting more help for Yumi."

"It's my pleasure. We've been backed up and what you suggested was such a nice thing to do." His lips twitched slightly which Naruto noticed.

"Well, it was all you. Yumi is forever grateful to you and your kindness for allowing me to do such a thing."

"Is that so? You'll make a good official, Naruto. Now only if we can stop these nasty rumors about you, not that it matters."

"It's something I'll think about, but I am sorry if I seem in a rush, but I must be on my way." He bowed once more. "Please reach home safely."

Naruto left through the opening of the gate and headed towards his house. His mind was racing, and he was thinking about everything, every single details. It wasn't hard to guess, but that man was a jealous man who didn't like anyone to have the upper hand. He was hard to please unless you showered him with praises and gifts and agreed with everything he said.

Then there was Nagato's death, and a family divided. He knew he had an unsettling feeling and the damn fox appeared. He knew it. He knew something would happen.

Hinata. He balled his fist tightly. He was lost for words, and he couldn't think clearly. Everything was so much for him that he didn't even know where to start or what to do or how to fix it.

"Naruto!"

He slowly turned around and saw Ino, Sakura, Kiba, and Sasuke approaching him.

Sakura was tearing up and her shoulders trembled as she wept. "Naruto, I'm so sorry." Ino rested her hand on her shoulder to support her. "I-If it wasn't for me, I- you would have never been put in this predicament." She wiped her eyes. "I'm sorry!"

Naruto gritted his teeth as he marched in front of Sakura. "Women are supposed to be submissive to their male peers, is that not correct? You never listen to me! You are to do what you're told and not go about on your own accord!"

"Hey!" Ino shouted as she made her way in front of Sakura who was trembling. "It wasn't only Sakura's idea, but it was mine too. We'll take full accountability, and we'll try to clear things up with your family, but we just wanted to help Hinata, and we thought seeing home would make her happy."

"Happy?" Naruto's arms fell loosely to the side. "If I wanted to make Hinata happy, I would have taken her there to begin with!" He snarled.

"Y- you knew," Ino gasped.

"Of course, I did!" He threw his arms up. "You didn't do this for Hinata, but your own selfish desires!"

"Naruto!" Kiba shouted.

He glared at Kiba, and he pinched the bridge of his nose. "It's my fault, isn't it?"

"No, it isn't. None of it is." Kiba replied.

"But it is!" His head snapped towards him. "If I had just told Sakura the reason, then she would have never suggested it to Hinata. Had I just told Hinata when I found out, maybe her grief would have ended sooner. Maybe if I had followed with my gut instance and just asked him if he was truly okay, then he would still be here!" Sakura nearly stumbled back as she had never heard or seen her friend so angry, hurt, destroyed. "It's all my fault because I could have prevented all of it." His voice came out in a whisper.

"N-Naruto!" Ino shouted to the blonde man who walked away from them.

"Kiba, make sure Sakura and Ino get home safely."

"But- Sakura began.

"Sakura," Sasuke said, taking her hands into his. "Naruto knows it isn't your fault, but give him some time to think, okay."

He let go of her hands and nodded his head to Kiba.

Sasuke followed Naruto through the gates of his house and followed him to the large tree that stood over the wash house.

"Naruto, you know it isn't your fault. There was nothing you could do for Nagato. He made his own decision." Sasuke said, taking a seat next to Naruto. He pressed his back against the wide tree and glanced at Naruto who had his knees pressed against his chest.

It reminded him of a similar time when Naruto found out his mother had passed away.

"But I knew. I had a feeling," Naruto mumbled. "Every time he visited, I had that nagging feeling, and I chose to ignore it. The more he said, the more he pushed his knees against his chest. "He kept saying these weird things to me, but I wasn't brave enough to confront him. I knew about the Hyuga clan and how there was no proper burial. And I didn't tell Hinata or Sakura the reason why."

"You didn't know Nagato would take his life, Naruto. Nagato suffered greatly and saw his friends die. He was put in jail and tortured for a great deal of time. His mind was already gone, and he made his decision."

"Maybe if I had said something, anything," His voice softened.

"Maybe or maybe it wouldn't have been enough. Nagato came to you and just maybe he wanted to spend his last days with you."

"But why me? Did he do this to curse me? Surely he knew the consequences."

"I don't think it was of any ill intentions, but I'm afraid we will never know what went on through his mind and as for Hinata; there was not much you could do."

"I could have said something," He frowned.

"You did what you thought was best. You didn't want to see her hurt, otherwise you wouldn't have attempted to bury some of the remains you found a few months prior." Sasuke mentioned. "You're not a wicked child. Your intentions are pure and that of an honest man."

The two fell silent, and the tree's leaves rustled above them. "Why don't you go inside? It looks like there's a few rain clouds out." Sasuke said.

When there was no response, Sasuke glanced at Naruto when he noticed he was deadly quiet. His eyes widened when he saw Naruto crying silently. Before he could utter a word, Naruto glared at him through the corner of his eyes.

"You better not say a word of this, or I'll let every know about the time you cried because Itachi ate your tomato."

A small smile graced Sasuke's face, and he looked up at the gray clouds. "Go ahead and let it all out, Naruto."

The tears splattered on his black yukata and onto the grass beneath them. A slight wind brushed past them and Naruto saw the baby fox approach him, carefully. Sasuke took notice of the fox too, and was about to shoo it away to give his friend a somewhat peace of mind, but it was too late. The fox had already jumped on Naruto and did its best to wrap his tail around his neck and cuddled his cheeks.

Sasuke was shock by the affection shown by the fox, and the tears poured down Naruto's eyes even more. He grabbed the fox and held it close to his chest and he continued to cry silently.

.

.

.

"Hinata, please calm down. Naruto will be back soon," Konohamaru tried to reassure the weeping girl. "Would you like me to make you some tea?"

She shook her head, and the tears flow freely down her cheeks. "I- I want Naruto," Her voice cracked.

"He'll be back-

"Are you still being a crybaby?" Naruto said, sneaking up behind Konohamaru.

Konohamaru yelped as he didn't even hear when the master entered the house, and not to mention he was already out of his yukata.

"Sir, she kept calling for you."

"Hai, hai," Naruto said, making his way to Hinata. Before he was even on the ground, Hinata had already hold onto him causing him to fall flat onto his butt. She buried his head into his chest, and he caressed her head as the tears splattered all over his shirt. "I guess I'm sleeping in here tonight."

Konohamaru stood at the entrance of the door and he felt his eyes sting. Looking at Naruto's face, he could tell the man had been crying as his eyes were red and puffy.

Naruto took notice of Konohamaru standing by the door way and he smiled, faintly. "Why don't you get your futon and bring it in here so we can all get some shut eye?"

His eyes widened and he nodded eagerly as he went to get the little mattress.

Naruto also noticed the fox who sat at the door and he sighed. "Come on." He signaled the fox to join.

Within a flash, the fox was already on him, cuddling him.

Konohamaru also joined and pushed his futon next to Naruto and lied down next to him. Hinata and the fox were already fast to sleep by the time Konohamaru came in. Hinata had her head on his left chest and the fox lied on his stomach.

Naruto gazed at the ceiling, then at Konohamaru who was had silent tears. "I guess we're all some crybabies," He grinned. "Come here, there's room for you too,"

Konohamaru scooted closer to Naruto and he rested his head on his arm. "Will everything get better?"

Naruto sighed. "Probably not now, but in due time. We just have a long and bumpy road ahead of us." He said, truthfully.

"I just wish we can escape this, all of this," Konohamaru mumbled.

Naruto hummed. "Same here, but let's worry about this another day." Naruto said, wrapping his arms tightly around Konohamaru and Hinata. "I'm a little tired myself." He yawned.

"Yes, sir."

A flash of lightning rampage outside, and eventually rain scattered all throughout Konoha.

"I believe it's time we all take a break from Konoha." Naruto whispered out.

"That would be nice," Konohamaru muttered out before he fell fast asleep.

AN:

-I think it goes to say, not burying the dead is a sign of disrespect. Danzo not having a proper burial for the Hyugas showed a great sign of disrespect, especially for a once high-ranking clan.

-In Konoha, it is normal to have a funeral the same day of death as they believe it helps the decease to move on quickly over to the other side. Of course, only the rich could afford to do such a thing.

-Naruto may be rich, but he still needs approval to do things such as moving the children from one home to the other.

-This would have been Hinata's first time seeing home ever since the war ended. She was not allowed to get any of her family's mementos as I mentioned in the previous chapter that everything belongs to the state.

-Hinata was told that her family was buried but was never informed where.

-Foxes are a sign of comforters and they have an extraordinarily rich story with the Uzumaki Clan. They are told to have healing powers once you accept them.
