Chapter 6: Tragedy Strikes More Than Once
"Very nice song." Ruth said as the song, 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough' finished playing on the record player.
"How about you, Ruth, don't you have any favorite songs?" Chise asked.
"Well, out of the songs I have listened to on that machine, I'd say Ghostbusters is the shit. Great song." Ruth said.
"Ruth is right, that is an enjoyable song." Elias said.
"So, wait, you knew Elias had this?" Chise asked.
"Absolutely, we usually only listen to it when you have those moments where you sleep for more than a day. Gives us something to enjoy. ELias didn't want you to know because he was worried you would make fun of him or something." Ruth said.
"Ruth... you were not supposed to say that." Elias said with his flat face.
"Oh, whoops." Ruth said as sweat fell from his head.
"(Giggle) Don't worry, Elias. There's nothing wrong with enjoying music." Chise said.
"I am relieved." Elias said as he stood up. "Why don't you enjoy some more songs while I contact Simon to check up on him." Elias said as he began to head for the stairs.
"Since when were you and the priest friends?" Ruth asked.
"He is merely an acquaintance to me, nothing more; regardless of what he says. I won't be long." Elias said as he walked up to his room.
"You know, if I ever had a girlfriend, I'd want to sing the song, 'Summer Nights' with her." Ruth said as he put his head down.
"A, that's cute, Ruth. You like 'Summer Nights'?" Chise asked.
"Yeah, the song appeals to me I guess. Gotta love the singers' voices. I just wish I had someone to sing it with, you know?" Ruth said.
"What about that cat girl you told me about earlier?" Chise asked.
"Yeah, no. She's just a friend. Plus, she's a cat and I'm a dog. That could never work anyway." Ruth said.
"Oh, come on, Ruth. You can't let that stop you. I mean, haven't you seen some Disney movies?" Chise asked.
"Chise, first off this isn't a Disney movie. Second off, me and the Yaya are 2 different species." Ruth said.
"Here's another example for you, it is totally possible for people of 2 different races to marry. Sure, it may not happen a lot, but it CAN happen. Also, look at me and Elias. We are different in many ways yet we still are happy with each other." Chise said.
"Look, I appreciate your encouragement, but I will wait until I find the right woman. Preferably who is also a grim." Ruth said.
"Well, I hope you find someone soon, Ruth. I'm all for it." Chise said as she patted Ruth.
"Thanks, now let's listen to 'Never Gonna Give You Up'." Ruth said.
Meanwhile...
Elias sat down in his chair at his desk and took out a mirror and spoke to it.
"Contact Simon." Elias said to the mirror.
Meanwhile, in the Church...
Simon was folding up his priest robes when he heard the sound of an ominous voice calling his name.
"Simon... Simon... Simon..." The voice called from a nearby table.
"Hmm? Ainsworth contacting me like this? It's been a few years since we spoke in this manner." Simon said to himself as he picked up the magic mirror that Elias gave him.
Simon spoke the specify words Elias told him to recite if he ever tried to contact him using the mirror. A few moments later, Elias's face appeared on the mirror.
"Ah, Ainsworth, you know this is an unusual way for you to contact me. I expected a letter or something like that. Besides, you know how I feel about these things." Simon said.
"I understand. I just wanted to make sure you are okay." Elias said.
"Um, are you feeling okay, Ainsworth? I never knew you thought of me as your friend." Simon said.
"I don't. You are an acquaintance to me. Nothing more, nothing less." Elias said.
"(Chuckle) I think having Chise in your life is making you more of a softy." Simon said.
"Die." Elias said.
"(Chuckle) Well, I appreciate you checking in on me. Might I ask, what is the reason?" Simon asked.
"Are you busy at the moment?" Elias asked.
"Well, I have a prayer group to attend to in 15 minutes." Simon said.
"Then I will tell you another time, it would be unwise to have your mind clouded with bad images before your activity." Elias said.
"Oh, my. Ainsworth, what is happening?" Simon asked as he was now worried.
"All I will say is that someone died." Elias said.
"Oh, well, I'm sorry for the loss." Simon said.
"Much appreciated." Elias said.
"Well, I must go now, tell Chise I said hi." Simon said.
"Very well." Elias said.
"Good day, Ainsworth. I hope we can speak again soon." Simon said.
Elias just nodded as he called of the spell on the mirror and put it away. Simon placed the mirror back onto the table and was about to continue folding his robes, when he heard a knock on the door to the room he was in.
"Hmm? Who is it? Jonathan, is that you? You're a bit early for the group meeting aren't you?" Simon asked.
No response.
"Who is it?" Simon asked again.
The only response that Simon got, was the door being opened up and a rather bizarre dressed figure (The Spell-Breaker) stepped into the room.
"Um, can I help you? Are you lost?" Simon asked as the Spell-Breaker just stood at the door and stared at him.
The Spell-Breaker than began to slowly approach Simon, shutting the door behind him.
"Um, Sir, you're starting to freak me out here. Do you need something from me? Sir? Si-(SLASH) (Blech!) (Hack!)" Simon was suddenly cut off as the Spell-Breaker pulled out a large knife and slashed Simon's throat.
Simon fell back as he held a hand to his throat as he bled all over the place. The Spell-Breaker grabbed Simon by his hair and began to stab him hundreds of times in the stomach. Simon tried to fight back, but it was no use, his body was too weak and he had no weapons or anything to defend himself. Simon could feel his life begin to fade out and he was preparing himself to die. The Spell-Breaker then reached into Simon's exposed stomach and literally ripped out his intestines. The Spell-Breaker then punched Simon in the face and kicked him hard against the wall. Simon laid on the floor as he was on death's doorstep. The Spell-Breaker looked down at Simon as he lay there bleeding.
"You're finished, and the church is finished too, Simon." The Spell-Breaker said as he simply turned away from Simon and left the room.
"G-God, have mercy on that poor soul, (sigh)." Simon said as he succumbed to his wounds and died.
Meanwhile...
Elias made his way down the stairs and smiled to himself as he saw Chise and Ruth enjoying another one of his many songs. Elias made his way to the kitchen and found Silky making snack and Joseph was awkwardly asking Silky if he could help in any way possible.
"If you want to help, you can go pick the weeds in the flower bed." Elias suggested.
"Sure thing." Joseph said as he gave the mage a smile.
"Oh, do try not to kill any of the flowers, Silky doesn't like it when you kill her flowers." Elias said as he walked back to the living room.
Joseph was confused but was quickly nervous when he turned around and saw Silky holding a knife and staring at him.
"Heh, heh, I'll go get rid of the weeds for you, a-and don't worry, I won't hurt your precious flowers." Joseph said nervously.
Silky gave a small smile as she went back to cutting up meat to make sandwiches.
"W-Wait, you're just messing with me?" Joseph asked.
Silky just gave a small nod and waved him away.
"Right, weeds, flowers, got it." Joseph said as he left the room to pick the weeds.
"Ruth, I'd suggest that in one more hour, we will take you to Lindel to get that bullet safely removed. Then you can properly aid in keeping Chise safe." Elias said.
"Fine by me." Ruth said.
"How's Simon?" Chise asked.
"He is well. He told me to say hi to you for him, so; 'Hello, Chise'." Elias said.
"Hello, Simon." Chise said sarcastically.
Elias and Chise just laughed and smiled to each other.
"(Sigh) I doubt I'll ever get used to being the third wheel here." Ruth said.
"Well, you ARE a stick in the mud, Ruth." Chise said.
"Oh, okay, redhead." Ruth said.
"Ruth, what did I say about calling me that?" Chise asked as she crossed her arms.
"Yeah, yeah." Ruth said.
"(Chuckle) You two seem to have a lot of banter with each other." Elias stated.
"Okay, boomer. No one asked for your opinion." Ruth said.
"Do I need to get the dog whistle out?" Elias asked.
"N-NO! I'm sorry! I-I'll be a good boy!" Ruth said as he got scared of the whistle threat.
"Good." Elias said.
"Ugh, sometimes it sucks to be a dog." Ruth said.
"Poor, Ruth." Chise said as she petted him.
Silky then came in with snacks for everyone and set them on the table.
"Thanks, Silky." Chise said as she smiled.
Silky smiled and gave a slight bow to Chise. Silky then walked out and headed to the garden to check on Joseph.
Silky walked outside and saw that Joseph had finished getting rid of the weeds and placing them in a small trash bag.
"Oh, hey, Silky. Don't worry, I made sure I didn't harm any of your flowers." Joseph said.
"Thank you, Joseph." Silky said as she picked up the bag and began to head back to the house.
"Um, w-wait, Silky?" Joseph called.
Silky turned to face Joseph.
"I just wanted to say, thank you for warming up to me a bit. I really appreciate it. Thank you, Silky." Joseph said.
Silky nodded and gave him a smile as she turned back to head inside.
"Oh, wait one more thing, what would you like me to do next?" Joseph asked.
"... Feed the dog." Silky said.
"W-Wait, what? Feed the dog?" Joseph as he wanted to make sure he heard Silky right.
"Yes, feed the dog." Silky said again.
"Can I ask why?" Joseph asked.
"He should not move too much; lung-shot." Silky said.
"I understand, but why can't you feed him? I'm sure he likes you more than me." Joseph said.
"I have more work to attend to." Silky said as she continued to head inside.
"O-Oaky, I'll tell him you told me to feed him." Joseph said as he too began to go back inside.
"Chise, I would like you to come with me to see Angelica." Elias said as he and Chise finished their sandwiches.
"Sure, I'm up for it." Chise said.
"Wonderful, we could use all the help we can get. Shall we go then?" Elias asked as he offered Chise his hand.
Chise nodded as she took Elias's hand and walked to the front door with him.
"You'll be okay, right Ruth?" Chise asked.
"What? Oh, yeah, I'll be fine, you two go on ahead, boomer and redhead." Ruth said.
"Boomer and redhead?" Elias reputed.
"Ruth." Chise said.
"Yeah, yeah, yeah, a stick in the mud. You two can go, we'll be fine here." Ruth said.
"Okay, we'll be back soon." Chise said as she and Elias walked outside.
"You ready?" Elias asked as he took out his wand.
"Yep, let's go." Chise said.
"Very well." Elias said as he transported them to the city.
Ruth smiled, but then frowned when he saw Joseph standing next to him suddenly.
"(Sigh) What do YOU want?" Ruth asked.
"Um, well you see..." Joseph said.
"You have to what?" Ruth asked, wanting to make sure he heard Joseph right.
"I have to feed you, Rudy." Joseph said.
"First of all, my name is RUTH, not RUDY. Second, why do YOU have to feed me?" Ruth asked.
"Silky said that you shouldn't move too much because of the bullet in your lung. I'm just going to hold the sandwich in front of your mouth and you eat it from there." Joseph explained.
"Ugh, fine, but I'm not going to enjoy this." Ruth said as he opened his mouth.
"Neither am I, I'm actually terrified." Joseph said as he picked up one of the remaining sandwiches and held it in front of Ruth.
Without warning, Ruth quickly snatched the sandwich from his hand and started chowing down.
"Jeez! I thought you were going to bite my hand off." Joseph said.
"Don't give me a reason to." Ruth said.
Meanwhile...
Chise and Elias were making their way through the streets of London. Elias was in his human form and was keeping Chise close to him; for protection no doubt. It was a nice day outside, and it was rather relaxing.
"Originally, I was going to have you stay home, but I feel more at ease that you are with me." Elias said.
"I feel safer with you too, Elias." Chise said as she looked up to him and smiled.
"We will stop him." Elias said sternly. "The Spell-Breaker will pay for Ariel's death, Ruth's attack, and his harsh threats." Elias said.
"We'll stop him, I know we will." Chise said.
"That's what I like to hear." Elias said as they arrived at Angelica's place.
Elias held the door open for Chise and made sure no one was following as they went inside. As per usual, no one was inside the main building so the pair were all clear for seeing Angelica. Elias walked up to the door and knocked.
"(Knock, knock) Angelica. (Knock, knock) Angelica. (Knock, knock) Angelica?" Elias called, but there was no response.
"Maybe, she's not home?" Chise asked.
"She usually would leave a note on the door if that was the case... Hmm, the door is unlocked." Elias said as he was able to open the door and they stepped inside.
"Angelica? Are you home? Althea?" Chise called.
"Angelica? Are you here? We require your assistance." Elias called.
"Angelica? Angeli-(SCREAM!)!" Chise screamed and fell to the floor.
"CHISE!? What happened?" Elias asked. Chise just gagged and pointing to the center of the room. Elias looked and gasped at the. "No..." Elias said as he saw what got Chise so frightened.
In the corner of the room, was the bloody and decapitated body of Angelica, her head on the floor beside her body. Angelica's right hand had been cut off and her left looked as if it were ripped off. She had been gutted open and there was a large butcher knife lodged in her opened up torso. Her head was not only decapitated, but it appeared that her eyes had been cut out and a large rock was lodged in her forehead.
"What the hell happened!?" Chise cried. Chise then gasped as she remembered that someone else lived with Angelica. "Althea!" Chise cried as she got up and ran to the stairs.
"CHISE! NO!" Elias yelled as he tried to grab Chise, but he was too late. Chise had already reached the stairs and ran up to Angelica's room.
Before Elias could catch up to Chise, he heard her screams.
"OH MY GOD!" Chise screamed as she saw Althea, dead.
Althea's body was on her bed, but her arms and legs had been chopped off and she appeared to have been shot through the head once and 5 times in the chest. On the bedroom walls above Althea's body was a sentence written in Althea's blood.
No one is safe from my wrath
Everything that you know and love
I will take it away
In the most brutal way possible
Welcome to hell
"Althea... NO!" Chise yelled as she fell to her knees and started cry.
"DAMN IT! WHY IS THIS HAPPENING!?" Elias roared as he punched a whole through the wall. "CHISE, look at me! Look at me!" Elias said as he grabbed Chise by her shoulders. "There is a police station 2 buildings to the right of this building, go and tell the police to come here, I will remain here to search for any incriminating evidence that the Spell-Breaker may have left behind." Elias said.
"B-But, Elias-." Chise started.
"No time for discussion, go now! Hurry." Elias said.
Chise nodded as she got up and ran downstairs. Chis ran out of the front door and stopped to catch her breath, she was still a mess after seeing the most bloodiest scene ever. After a few moments, Chise composed herself and began to make her way to the police station. However, right as she was halfway there, she was suddenly grabbed by her waist and a hand covered her mouth. Chise was being dragged into an alley and just her luck, there was NO ONE walking near the area.
"(Chuckle) I've got you now." A voice said. It was the Spell-Breaker.
Chise tried to break out of his grip, but the Spell-Breaker wasn't giving.
"Feisty little bitch!" The Spell-Breaker said as he slammed Chise against the brick wall hard 3 times.
For a brief moment, the Spell-Breaker removed his hand from Chise's mouth. Right as Chise about to scream for help, the Spell-Breaker grabbed Chise by the back of the head and slammed her face into the wall.
"(Grunt) HELP-MMFF!" Chise tried to call for help but the Spell-Breaker covered her mouth again and then he put his other hand on the top of her head hard and started to recite some sort of chant. Chise was horrified when she realized it was the same chant that Cartaphilus said would transfer her immortality out of her. Chise tried to fight back and break free, but the Spell-Breaker put her in a choke hold.
"Anata no uchi ni aru chikara, watashi wa sore o watashi ni utsushimasu! Anata wa katsute kono chikara o motte imashitaga, ima wa watashi no monodesu!" The Spell-Breaker recited.
*Translation: The power within you, I transfer it to me! You used to have this power, but now it's mine!
Chise fought hard, but it was no use. The Spell-Breaker was very powerful. Chise then started to feel as if some sort of spiritual essence was leaving her body. She realized her immorality was being transferred into the Spell-Breaker. As soon as the spell was complete, the Spell-Breaker threw Chise on the floor. Before Chise could do anything. The Spell-Breaker pounced on top of her and grabbed ahold of her throat with both of his hands and started to choke her. This instantly triggered traumatic flashbacks for Chise. She tried with all her might to break free of the Spell-Breaker's grip.
"Heh, heh, What wrong? Scared? Am I making you remember something in particular!? GOOD! I could kill you right now bitch, but unfortunately Cartaphilus wants you to suffer more. I agree with him. but don't worry Chise, I will make sure you die a slow and painful death." The Spell-Breaker said before he smacked his head into Chise's.
Chise began to blackout.
"Everything I do to you and your friends, is payback! Sleep well, bitch!" The Spell-Breaker said as he pulled out what looked like a grapple gun and grappled away. Chise then blacked out.
Elias quickly left the room, after unsuccessfully finding any evidence to the Spell-Breaker's identity. As Elias walked out of the building and made his way to the police station, he wondered where Chise and the police were, surely she would have gotten them out here by now. Elias made it to the station and walked inside the building. He looked around for Chise but he couldn't see her anywhere.
"Excuse me." Elias said as he walked up to a female officer.
"Yes, may I help you sir?" the officer asked.
"Have you seen a girl with red hair walk in here recently?" Elias asked.
"No, I haven't seen anyone like that come in here, I'm sorry sir." The officer said.
"Okay, thank you, ma'am." Elias said trying to keep calm but inside he was freaking out.
Elias quickly left the station and started to walk back to Angelica's building, thinking maybe she went back. When Elias was halfway there, he spotted something out of the corner of his eye. Elias turned and down a dark alley, was Chise, unconscious and laying on the floor.
"Chise!" Elias cried as he rushed over to Chise. "Chise? CHISE!?" Elias cried as he held Chise and tried to shake her awake. "She's out cold, who did this to her!? I will make them pay!" Elias said as he noticed Chise's face was all bruised and bloody.
Elias swore he was going to cry, until he realized the horrible truth of the situation.
"This, this is all my fault. If I hadn't told her to leave, she would still be okay. What have I done?" Elias asked himself as he held Chise close against him. "I must take you home." Elias said as he took out his wand and transported them back to his house.
Back at the house, Ruth and Joseph were sitting in the living room just awkwardly staring at each other.
"Can I get you anything, Ruth?" Joseph asked.
"Yes, you can give me some peace and quiet." Ruth said.
"Come on, Ruth, we can get along." Joseph said.
"I said give me a few days before I warm up to you." Ruth said.
"Um, r-right. Sorry, I forgot." Ruth said.
Right as Ruth was about to make another remark to Joseph, he heard the sound of someone teleporting in front of the house.
"There's something you can do, you can get the door for the couple." Ruth said.
"On it." Joseph said as he went to open the front door.
As soon as Joseph opened the door, he was shocked to see Elias carrying an unconscious Chise in his arms.
"(Gasp) Oh my god! CHISE!" Joseph cried.
Silky and Ruth both heard Joseph's cries. Ruth was about to get up, but Silky stopped him.
"Stay put." Silky said.
"No! Chise is-." Ruth started.
"Stay. Put." Silky said again more seriously.
Ruth only nodded as he put his head down, worried about Chise's well-being. Silky ran out the front door and she was horrified at what she saw. Elias spoke no words as he walked past Silky and Joseph and walked to the stairs. Ruth got a glimpse of Elias carrying Chise.
"Elias! What happened!?" Ruth cried.
Elias said nothing as he carried Chise to her room and placed her in her bed.
"I have failed you. When you wake, I hope you can forgive me." Elias said as he bent down and kissed Chise's forehead.
Elias left Chise's room and shut the door behind him and made his way to the living room, where the other 3 were waiting.
"Elias, what on earth happened to Chise?" Ruth asked.
"I, I don't know." Elias said.
"What do you mean, 'you don't know'?" Ruth asked.
"I said I DON'T KNOW!" Elias yelled as he slammed his fist on the table, startling everyone.
"Any idea who did this to her?" Joseph asked.
"No clue, if we're lucky, it might have been some mugger." Elias said.
"If we're lucky!? How the hell is that luck!?" Ruth cried.
"If it was the Spell-Breaker who got ahold of Chise, she would have been killed." Elias pointed out.
"But, Chise's immortal isn't she?" Joseph asked.
"Well, yeah, but your other half, Cartaphilus, gave the Spell-Breaker the spell to take away Chise's immortality." Ruth said.
Silky walked right up to Elias and looked at him dead in the eye.
"How did this happen?" Silky asked.
"Yeah, how could anyone manage to pull this off when Chise was with you the whole time?" Joseph asked.
"(Sigh) I will explain everything." Elias said as he told them about the deaths of Angelica and Althea, and how Elias sent Chise to the police station to get help.
"You made her go on her own!? What is wrong with you!?" Ruth cried.
"I wasn't thinking clearly! The station was 2 buildings to the right. I didn't think anything could happen!" Elias said.
"You shouldn't have done that." Joseph said.
"Not. One. Word. Out. Of. You." Elias said as he glared at Joseph.
"I'm sorry, but I am with Joseph. You should've kept Chise with you." Ruth said.
"I KNOW!" Elias yelled. "Silky, please go keep an eye on Chise, I need to take a walk." Elias said as he got up and left the house.
Silky obliged and walked upstairs to Chise's room.
"I'm coming too." Ruth said as he tried to get up, but felt pain in is chest.
"No, you are not, you're staying on this couch until your body has gotten used to the wound." Joseph said as he held Ruth in place.
"Get your hands off me!" Ruth cried as he growled at Joseph.
Silky walked into Chise's room and rushed to her bedside. Silky noticed the wounds on Chise's face as it appeared Chise's face had been repeatedly smashed into a hard surface with great force.
"Rest well." Silky said.
As Silky was tending to Chise, cleaning her face from the blood, she was unaware that Chise was enduring a terrible dream.
Chise's Nightmare
Chise found herself in a void of darkness. Chise looked around for anything, until she heard the sounds of evil voices speaking to her.
"You look delicious. I will eat your heart. Your flesh looks so yummy. You will be my next meal, little girl. We will strip the flesh from your bones. Your meat will will be wonderful to taste!" The voices said.
Chise turned around and saw a bunch of the monsters and creatures that she saw from her childhood.
"NO!" Chise yelled as she ran away.
After a few minutes of running Chise started hearing the voices of people looking down on her as an outcast. It seemed like no matter how fast she ran, she couldn't escape the voices.
"Worthless! Freak! Crazy! Lunatic! Nobody loves you! Go in a hole and die! Why are you even alive?! Nobody cares about you!" the voices yelled.
Chise began to cry as she couldn't escape these awful voices. Chise then heard a voice that made her whole world shatter.
"You're a burden to this family! You should never have been born!" Chika yelled.
Chise looked up and saw her mother, glaring at her and even spitting on her.
"You ruined our family!" Chika yelled.
"No. No! NO!" Chise yelled.
"Heh, heh, it's amazing how many people hated you, Chise." the voice of the Spell-Breaker said.
Chise looked up and saw the Spell-Breaker.
"You should have jumped, Chise. The world would be better if you were dead." The Spell-Breaker said.
"This is just a nightmare! I won't listen to you!" Chise yelled.
"Yes, this is just a nightmare, however, I AM with you in your dream." The Spell-Breaker said.
"W-What? How?" Chise asked.
"Unlike you, I use a device called, a Dream visitor. It allows me to enter a person's dreams. Unfortunately I can't kill you, but I can hurt you." The Spell-Breaker said as he kicked Chise in the face.
Chise fell pack and covered her face in pain. The Spell-Breaker didn't stop there as he grabbed Chise by the throat and started punching her repeatedly.
"W-Who are you?" Chise weakly asked.
"No, not yet, Hatori. You don't get to know who I am yet. For now, how about you just wake up. Wake up, wake up, wake up, wake up, wake up." The Spell-Breaker said as he pulled a gun out and aimed it at Chise's head.
"No." Chise said.
"(Chuckle) Wake up. (BANG!)" The Spell-Breaker said as he shot Chise in the head.
Chise's Nightmare End
Chise woke up screaming as she was breathing heavily. Silky quickly ran over and hugged Chise, calming her down.
"(Sobbing) S-Silky!" Chise cried as she hugged Silky tightly.
"It is okay, you are safe." Silky said.
"I'm home, did Elias bring me back?" Chise asked.
Silky nodded as she wiped away Chise's tears.
"Where is Elias?" Chise asked.
"Out for a walk." Silky said.
"O-Okay." Chise said.
"Rest up, I will remain here. You are safe." Silky said.
"Thank you, Silky." Chise said as she laid back down.
"There is no need to worry, I have returned." Elias said as he appeared at the bedroom door.
"Elias!" Chise cried as she was revealed to see Elias.
"I'm so glad you're okay." Elias said as walked over and hugged Chise.
"Same here." Chise said.
"I heard you scream as I walked back inside, did you have a nightmare?" Elias asked.
"Yeah, I did." Chise said.
"May I ask, what happened?" Elias asked.
"Sure thing." Chise said as she explained her dream to Elias and Silky.
"The Spell-Breaker visited you in your dream? That is bad. But, do not fret, you are safe and sound." Elias said.
"I feel much better." Chise said as she smiled.
"Chise, may I ask, what happened to you? Who attacked you?" Elias asked.
"It was the Spell-Breaker. He attacked me. I was making my way to the police station like you said but then out of nowhere I was grabbed and dragged into an alley. The Spell-Breaker starting attacking me and he took my immortality away. Then he knocked me out." Chise explained.
"No! What have I done!?" Elias asked.
"Elias, it wasn't your fault." Chise said as she put her hand on his shoulder.
"Yes it was! Don't you get it!? If I hadn't been such a fool and kept you with me, this never would have happened." Elias said.
"You weren't thinking clearly and neither was I." Chise said.
"I failed to keep you safe. Please forgive me, Chise." Elias asked as he held Chise's hands in his own.
"Of course, I forgive you. But I'm not mad at you, Elias." Chise said.
"You really do have a good heart my puppy." Elias said as he rubbed Chise's face.
"Yeah." Chise said as she hugged Elias.
"Can you stand?" Elias asked.
"I can stand, I'm not badly inured or anything." Chise said.
"Very well, still though, I will carry you." Elias said as he picked up Chise.
"I-Is everything okay, Elias?" Chise asked.
"Not exactly, I suggest we take Ruth to Lindel now. We can't waste anymore time." Elias said as he carried Chise downstairs, with Silky following close behind.
"Well, thank the heavens you weren't seriously hurt." Ruth said.
"And you said this Spell-Breaker fellow knew about your past?" Joseph asked.
"Yeah, he knew about my mother, my suicide attempt, and the many awful people and monsters in my life." Chise said.
"Well, whoever this guy is, he knows so much about you." Joseph said.
"And we know nothing about him." Ruth said.
"We will stop this maniac before anyone else dies." Elias said.
"Can you move yet, Ruth?" Chise asked.
"Yeah, (grunt) there's a small bit of pain, but I can take it." Ruth said.
"Then let us be off, we have no time to-." Elias started before they heard a knock at the door.
Silky went to answer the door, and saw a man standing outside waiting. The man spoke and said he needed to speak with Elias. Silky opened the door and motioned for the mam to give her a moment. Silky went to get Elias.
"Is something the matter?" Elias asked.
"Use your human form, there is a man here for you." Silky said.
"Who could he be? Very well." Elias said as he used his glamour.
Elias walked to the door and opened it to see the man that appeared to come from the church.
"May I help you?" Elias asked.
"Are you, Elias Ainsworth?" the man asked.
"That is me." Elias said.
"I am Johnathan, I am a member of the church with Simon." Johnathan said.
"What is it you need? I am rather busy." Elias said.
"You are a friend of Simon, aren't you?" Johnathan asked.
"Acquaintance." Elias said.
"Yes, well, it's Simon. You need to see this. Now." Johnathan said.
"What is wrong with Simon?" Elias asked.
"He, He's dead." Johnathan said.
"WHAT!?" Elias yelled.
"You need to see this, its dire." Johnathan said.
"Give me a moment." Elias said as he walked back inside. "The church requires my presence immediately." Elias said.
"ELIAS! This is no time to be running errands!" Ruth cried.
"Simon is dead." Elias said.
"WHAT!?" Everyone cried.
"I must see what happened. I will be back as soon as possible." Elias said as he turned to leave.
"I'm coming with you, Elias." Chise said as she stood up.
"No, you are staying here." Elias said.
"But, Elias..." Chise said.
"No! You have seen enough death in one day. You will be safe here." Elias said as he walked out of the house.
"Oh, god, Simon..." Chise said as she was worried about what could have happened to Simon.
Elias walked outside and stood next to Johnathan.
"I have no time to waste. Don't move." Elias said as he took out his wand and teleported them to the church.
Once they arrived at the church, Johnathan stood back.
"I will remain here, it is a terrible sight." Johnathan said.
Elias only nodded as he made his way to the church doors. Once Elias was inside the church, the first thing he noticed was one of the most brutal sights he had ever seen. On the Cross behind the alter, was Simon's dead body. Simon was gutted, naked, this throat was slit and was literally crucified to the cross. The wooden Jesus was on the ground, in pieces. Simon's intestines were dangling out of his body and it looked like a spear-like object was jammed into Simon's side. To make it worse, Simon had been fitted with a crown of broken glass on his head. This was one of the most morbid and cruelest way for someone to be killed.
"Simon! NOOO! WHAT IS HAPPENING!?" Elias yelled as he fell to his knees. "I WILL KILL THAT MONSTER! HOW MANY MORE MUST DIE!?" Elias yelled as he looked up to Simon's body. "I'm sorry, Simon. May you rest in peace." Elias said as he walked out of the church.
"We have no clue as to who could have done this." Johnathan said.
"I do, get his body down from there. Tell your village to stay alert. I must go." Elias said as he took out his wand and teleported back home.
Once Elias made it back home, he walked to the living room.
"It is true, Simon... is dead." Elias said.
"This is getting out of hand!" Ruth said.
"But, why would the Spell-Breaker kill them? What did they ever do?" Chise asked.
"Well, maybe this is the kind of suffering that the Spell-Breaker wants you to endure." Joseph said.
"Enough talk, Chise, Ruth, come, we must go to Lindel." Elias said as he began to head for the front door.
Chise helped Ruth stand up and they both followed Elias to the front. Once everyone was ready, Elias transported them to the Dragon's Aerie.
Once the 3 were at the Dragon's Aerie, they were almost immediately swarmed by the baby dragons.
"Out of our way, we have no time for this." Elias said.
"H-He's right, we need to see Lindel." Chise said.
The dragons went quiet and just looked at each other.
"Where is Lindel?" Chise asked.
"Robin, Lindel is..." one of the dragons started.
"Where is he?" Chise asked.
"Lindel... he's gone." another dragon said.
"WHAT!?" They cried.
