AN: Thank you for the reviews and support, readers! I honestly had no intention of making this a slow burn story, but I honestly don't see the opportunity for Naruto and Hinata to be together any time soon. I know slow burns aren't everyone's favorite, but I can assure you that it won't be too long.
I don't mind the long reviews. I enjoy reading them.
Yes, Sasuke is a Naruto and Hinata shipper.
There's always a calm before the storm.

With each drop, he winced in discomfort. He hadn't heard this noise going to bed earlier. Was the ship slowly sinking? Or was there a hole somewhere in the room? That would be irritating since he'd paid good money for this room.

He wiggled his nose slightly when he felt something wet run down his cheek. Stirring from his light slumber, Naruto turned his body to the side to reach for Hinata. Suddenly, his heart skipped a beat. Instead of touching Hinata, his hand landed in a pool of water. His eyes snapped open, and he looked around frantically. The ship was sinking and— That was not the case. He looked back and forth and all he could think of was Hinata's whereabouts.
Shakenly, he pushed himself off the damp floor and shouted, "Hinata! Hinata! Can you hear me?" The more he shouted, his voice echoed.
Everything was partially dark and cold. He decided to run. He didn't know where he was going or where he was, but one thing stuck heavily in his mind, Hinata.
Luckily, he didn't bump into anything strange and the more he ran the place seemed to light up. Once he was able to see everything, he halted. It seems he was in a damp tunnel. Panting, he shouted, "Hinata! Hinata! Are you okay? Can you hear me!"
The hairs on the back of his neck stood up when he heard a slight grunt. There was just something chilling about that sound, however, his feet moved in the direction he heard it. If there was a grunt, then that means it was a possibility Hinata would be there. Squeezing his fists, he ran towards the grunt angrily. If there was one hair out of place, hell will freeze over, and he meant it!
"Hinata!" He shouted, turning the corner.
His legs were wet, and he was out of breath. He had been running for eternity. That grunting noise was in here and it was much heavier than before. Slowly, he walked into the tunnel-like room until he was met face to face with a vicious-looking creature. Red eyes glowed at him, and that's when his eyes widened.
Naruto turned on his side and opened his eyes slowly. He was met by Hinata's back and it seemed she was doing something. Yawning, he grabbed a few strands of her hair to feel the silky touch he adored. Those red eyes played back and forth in his mind, and he tried to forget them. They were menacing.
Feeling someone touching her, she looked over her shoulder and smiled. "Naruto, you're awake."
He nodded and sat up. "What are you doing?"
"I'm just making a yukata." She replied.
Humming, Naruto rested his chin on the top of her shoulder which made Hinata's cheeks turn red. He glanced at the materials she had in her hands then he asked, "Who are you making the yukata for?"
"For the fox!" She replied, happily. "He's going to look so cute!" She almost squealed.
Naruto's eyes darted to the fox that was sitting on the chair in front of Hinata. His yellow tail swished back and forth, and his blue eyes stared intensely at Naruto. For reasons unknown, they looked so familiar.
It was a battle of ongoing stares and neither one broke their gaze.
"I think you should give him a name, Naruto," Hinata said. "Doesn't a name define who we are? A name is an identity." She said, her eyes focused on pushing the thread through the needle. "A name gives a person a story and—"
"Eh. It's a fox." He said, breaking his gaze.
Hinata poked out her lower lip. "He still deserves a name."
"Why don't you name him then?" He asked, laying back down.
"For some reason, I feel it isn't my place to name him."
Unknown to them, the fox nodded his small head as if he understood everything being said.
Naruto scoffed, then turned on his side. "I'll think of something, but why are you up so early? Couldn't that wait?"
"I had a dream about him wearing the cutest yukata, so I wanted to start it for him."
"Our stop is approaching soon. We'll be in the land hidden in the mist before you know it." Naruto reminded.
"I know. I know, but—"
"You're worried about Yoko." Naruto finished.
She nodded slowly. "She's only but so young and I'm afraid they'll take advantage of her."
"I understand, but I believe Yoko is strong," Naruto said. "She'll be fine."
"I suppose she will." Her voice went quiet.
Hinata's eyes widened when she felt his hand on her back. He was rubbing it in a circular motion to comfort her. The corner of her lips tugged upwards, and she wiped her eyes.
"Thank you, Naruto."
The man only grumbled, but his caring touch never stopped.

Tears gathered in the corner of their eyes as the girls embraced one another. "Although we've only known each other for a few days, I consider you my favorite person and friend, Ms. Hinata."
"Oh, Yoko!" Hinata sobbed. "Just call me Hinata." She said, squeezing the girl tightly. "I consider you my friend too. Please take care of yourself."
Yoko squeezed her eyes tighter, and she nodded. "Ms. Hinata, please write me. Although I may not know how to read or write, I will find a way to always keep in contact with you."
"I will. I will." Hinata said, reluctant to let Yoko go.
When they split apart, both girls felt a piece of their heart chip. The boat had come to a complete stop, and that's when Yoko stepped back and bowed. "Please take care, Ms. Hinata." She said, before leaving.
Hinata's arms fell loosely to her side and her eyes watered when she saw the brown oak door closed. A second later, Naruto entered the room and Hinata posed a question. "Do you get sad when you have to say farewell to someone you know you may never see again?"
There was a painful expression on Naruto's face, but he cracked a smile. "Why don't you wash your face? They'll be letting us off soon." He suggested.
Hinata nodded slowly, making her way past Naruto. Once she was out of sight, he let out a soft sigh and ran his fingers through his unkempt hair.
The land hidden in the mist (Kirigakure)
The port was crowded with people either walking by or selling fresh fish or supplies. Konohamaru stared in amazement as he looked back and forth, taking in the scenery. Everything looked so new and different from Konoha that it almost became overwhelming.
"How long are we going to be here, s- Naruto?" He asked.
"We'll be here for three days," Sasuke answered.
"Winter is approaching, so it'll be best not to get caught in the snow when we return to Konoha," Naruto added.
Nodding eagerly, Konohamaru tightened the strap around his chest and let his eyes roam the crowded port. Hinata's eyes widened in shock by the variety of people on the dock. Eager, she ran up to a stand that sold some fresh fruits.
"Let's find a place to stay before we explore," Sasuke suggested.
As they were walking away, the fox tapped Naruto on his forehead. It was as if that tap was a communication signaling, he had forgotten somebody. Anxiously, he looked around when he did not spot Hinata next to him.
He felt the color drain down his face and he could only think about the worst-case scenario. Just as he was about to raise hell, he felt a tug on his shirt.
"Naruto, look." His racing heart calm down when he saw those big lavender eyes gawk at him. In her small hand, she held up a big red apple and she smiled cheekily. "I've never seen something so big in my entire life." She exclaimed.
Naruto wanted to be upset at her for leaving, but he couldn't once he saw how her lips tugged up in a cheerful smile.
"We can share it later." She said, wrapping it in a small napkin before finding a safe spot in her bag to put it in.
"Hinata, please don't leave my side like that." He told her. "You have to be careful. You're in a strange place you've never been."
"I'm sorry." She pouted. "I just saw it and wanted to get one for us to share."
"I know. I know." He said, rubbing her head. "We're going to find a place to stay before we go exploring. Come on."
Once they had caught up to Sasuke and Konohamaru, they searched around for a hotel or boarding house. It took them a few tries since most of the rooms were booked, but eventually, they were able to find a boarding house for them near the docks.
Hinata would get her own room, while the men shared a room.
"What are we going to do here?" Konohamaru asked as he placed his belongings into the dark oak dresser.
"There's a lot to do here, but we'll mostly walk around until we find something we want to do," Naruto said, taking a seat on the cushioned chair.
"It feels so much different than Konoha," Konohamaru commented, making his way to Naruto's side. "Everything smells and feels so different. Is it supposed to be like this?" His big brown eyes stared into Naruto's own.
"Yes."
A small grin made its way on Konohamaru's face, and he placed his hands on the back of his head. "There's a garden outside. Is it okay if Hinata and I look around?"
Naruto was hesitant until Sasuke spoke up. "It should be fine. This place is well gated, and I'm sure Konohamaru will look out for Hinata." He said, reassuring Naruto.
Sighing, Naruto nodded. "Fine. But be careful and be observant, Konohamaru. We're no longer in Konoha."
"Yes, sir!" He saluted the man.
As he was about to run out of the room, Naruto shouted, "And make sure Hinata doesn't wander off!"
"I won't!" He shouted back.
Sasuke sat on the wooden chair once he heard the door close. He pulled out some paper from the desk and hummed.
"What is it?" Naruto asked.
"You know, I would have never expected you to have such a caring side." Sasuke said, glancing at him.
Naruto scoffed as a response. "They are new to this, so I want them to be careful."
"Sure."
Rolling his eyes, Naruto got up and lied on the bed next to the window, and the fox quickly made his way to Naruto's side. "I'm going to take a nap." He yawned. "Wake me up when it's close to dinner time."
Different breeds of flowers decorated the garden. Fresh scents fragrant the air, and some butterflies we're seen getting some nourishment from the blooming flowers. Hinata and Konohamaru were sitting under an oak tree, watching the different boarders walk to and fro around the magnificent garden.
"You miss Yoko, huh Hinata?" Konohamaru asked.
"I do. I sometimes wonder if I'll ever meet a friend like her again." Hinata replied, looking down at her warm hands.
"What about Lady Sakura and Ino? Wouldn't you consider them your friends?"
There was a long pause before she responded. "I supposed they are, and I know they care deeply for me, but it isn't like the connection I had with Yoko… even if I had just known her for three days. Don't you have friends, Konohamaru?"
"I do. I don't get to see them very often because they go to school."
"Don't you want to go back to school?" Hinata asked, glancing at him. "School is important, and you get to learn so much."
"Please don't be upset with me, Hinata." He said, chewing on his lower lip. "But I've been secretly going from time-to-time early mornings when I would disappear."
A soft giggle escaped her lips, and she nodded. "It's fine. I've been doing the house chore before you came, so I don't mind continuing. You're still young and I feel you should be in school." She spoke. "We can talk more about it with Naruto. I'm sure he won't mind."
"I don't want to be a burden to him." He whispered.
"You shouldn't think that way, Konohamaru. Naruto enjoys your company, believe it or not. Sometimes I feel when he looks at you, he sees his younger self."
"But… I've caused him so much."
"Now, now," Hinata said, resting her hand on the top of his. "Naruto doesn't hold back on his words, so if you were a burden, he would make sure you know."
Swallowing the lump stuck in his throat, he could only nod. Her soft hand on his made his heart skip a beat. Hinata continued to talk about their adventures that would soon await, and Konohamaru could only listen.
On the third floor of the boarding house, a young girl around seventeen, sighed as she looked out the window to the garden.
"What's the matter Lady Kin?" An older maid asked. "Is this room not to your liking?"
"Oh Sarah," She let out a bored sigh as she twirled around to look at her favorite maid. "This trip was supposed to spark my imagination and it hasn't one bit." She frowned. "My story for the book club is due next month, and I haven't written a single thing."
"These things take time," Sarah replied.
"But I don't have time. I thought being here would give me some romantic ideas, but I've come up with nothing but the word The!" She cried. "I'll surely be kicked out and my name will be smeared by that two-timer, Tayuya"
"Why don't you walk around instead of being cooped up?"
"I've tried that. Maybe it's this location." She murmured.
"Should I arrange for us to find a new place?" Sarah inquired.
"Yes."
The old maid bowed and took her to leave.
Kin's eyes darted out the window once more and watched the garden. The sky was slowly turning pink and orange, and she knew it would soon be dinner time. Looking once more at the garden, she was in a trance by its beauty. Everything looked so surreal that this would have been a good scope for her story.
Kin, who was only seventeen, was an amateur writer who wanted to make it big. Although she was a female, she believed she would make it big one day and refused to go under a pen name. Everyone would know that her, Kin Tsuchi, created a story that sold millions.
Her eyes moved towards the oak tree, and curiosity got the best of her. Standing there, was a blonde-haired man and a younger woman. She couldn't hear what they were talking about, but they looked… happy. The young woman's face had a glow to it, and her eyes sparkled with enthusiasm.
She ducked when they walked towards the back entrance of the door, and she was able to properly hear them.
"Sir, what would you like to eat tonight?"
"Hinata, what did I tell you about calling me s—"
Their voices faded and she couldn't hear the rest of what was said. "She called him sir. She's probably a maid." Kin concluded. Then she hummed. Why would a maid be dressed in such lavish clothes? Usually, when that happens, it means only one thing.
She threw her head back and sighed loudly. "Who cares! This isn't going to help me with my story."
The boarding house was quiet, except for the wind hollowing outside. Looking outside, Kin knew why they called this place, the land hidden in the mist. A thick fog covered her window, and it was hard to make out what was outside.
It was already twelve, and she had a hard time sleeping. All she could think about was her deadline and that stupid Tayuya teasing her.
"I hate her and her stupid face." She grumbled.
She tried to close her eyes, but she couldn't stop thinking about it. Suddenly, her ears perked up when she heard a soft knock on the room door next to her. A wicked smirk formed on her face, and she climbed off the bed softly.
A soft knock on the door in the middle of the night only meant one thing. Slowly, she made her way to the end of the room and pressed her ear against the decorated wall.
"I hope I didn't wake you up, Hinata."
Her eyes widened and she almost gasp. It was the voice of the blonde hair man earlier.
"No, you didn't."
The walls weren't as thin, but if anyone were to press their ears against it then they would be able to hear anything going on.
"I wanted to eat the apple with you."
Naruto nodded as he made himself comfortable on the cushioned chair. "Are you still feeling bad about Yoko?"
"I try not to think about her, but I do miss her sir," Hinata replied, taking a seat next to him.
"You'll meet more friends the more we travel."
"Do you think so? I don't think I'll ever meet anyone as nice as Yoko, especially if they find out I'm just a maid."
"I knew it." Kin said softly.
"And if they act differently because of what you are, then you shouldn't want to be friends with them," Naruto told her. "Maid or not, you're still Hinata okay?"
"You're always so kind to me," Hinata said.
"Would you like me to be mean?" He teased.
Hinata pouted as she held onto the red apple.
"Let me peel it for you," Naruto said, taking out a pocketknife.
Kin listened to their entire conversation, and she wondered if there was more to this master and maid. She wished she could see what was going on. Suddenly, her eyes widened when she heard the bed creaked.
A blush decorated her cheeks and she waited for what was to come, but it never did. Instead, they continued to speak about life, and suddenly her heart shattered when she heard a soft cry come from the maid's mouth.
Was he hurting her?
Maid or not, she wouldn't stand for a man to take advantage of a woman. She was about to march into the room when she heard, "I miss my family."
"I know you do, Hinata. It's okay to cry."
Naruto pulled her closer into his chest and rubbed her arm. The tears damped his cotton shirt, but he held her tighter. "It'll get better." He reassured her.
Kin's heart fluttered when she heard that. Those words were so kind and sincere that she couldn't even believe they came from a man's voice. Usually, her father would talk harshly to her mother or any of his female servants, so she grew accustomed to men being as she would say "pigs".
Maybe that was the reason for her lack of inspiration. Being romantic was something that was never shown to her because of her father. She couldn't even tell you the last time she heard her father say something nice to her, her siblings, or her mother.
The room turned quiet, but she lingered just for a little longer before she sauntered to her bed. How could she possibly sleep now? All these questions entered her mind throughout the night. We're they lovers? How long has this been going on? What's their story? Where do they live?
Surely, something like this would cause a lot of rumors to go around and she couldn't imagine what might have happened to the young maid. Some people were not kind.
She needed to do some more investigation.
.
.
.
During morning time, there was still a little mist lingering around outside. It wasn't as hard to see as it was last night, but one should be careful. The boarding house was livelier now that the residence was up and ready to eat.
Young children ran down the narrow halls and played on the stairs leading up to the bedrooms. Men sat in the parlor, smoking their cigars and reading the daily newspaper, while some sat in the dining hall to eat.
Sasuke sipped on his blackened coffee while he flipped through the newspaper. There wasn't much happening here except a little robbery here and there. Relatively, the village hidden in the mist was a safe place to live now that the bandit era was demolished. A lot of assassins fled the area because business was hard to conduct due to the new set of rules and heavy police force. However, if one was to search hard enough, an assassin could be found.
"S-Sasuke, what are you drinking?" Konohamaru inquired pointing to the porcelain mug.
"Coffee." He replied, not bothering to look at him.
"Co-ffee?" Konohamaru tilted his head to the side.
"Why don't you give him a sip?" Naruto suggested, eyeing Sasuke.
Sasuke looked back at him, and a sudden smirk plastered his face. "Here," Sasuke said, pushing the mug to him. "I'm almost done with it but go ahead and taste it."
Wrapping his fingers around the handle, Konohamaru slowly put his mouth on the mug and took a big gulp of the lukewarm coffee. He placed the mug down and Naruto snickered when he saw the way his face twisted. His cheeks were still contained the warm liquid as he refused to swallow it down.
Sasuke chuckled then went back to reading the newspaper.
"That wasn't nice, Naruto." Hinata scolded him. "Konohamaru, go to the bathroom and spit it out."
Nodding, he got up and quickly ran to the downstairs bathroom.
"I was just teasing him, Hinata," Naruto said, spreading some strawberry jam across his toasted bread, which he wasn't doing a good job at.
Sighing, Hinata took the bread from his hand and began to spread the jam on it, properly. "You should take your time doing these things, Naruto. Patience is a virtue."
"That's what I always tell him," Sasuke commented.
Naruto shot him a glare.
"Here you go," Hinata said, placing the toasted bread on his white plate.
"Thank you, Hinata."
Nodding, she went to sip on her orange juice. The entire time, she could feel someone staring at her so she would occasionally look around, but it was no use. She could not spot the person.
"Lady Kin, are you sure you don't want to leave? I've already made the arrangement." Sarah said.
"No. It's fine." Kin said, glimpsing at the group of four who sat near the window.
"Has something piqued your interest?" Sarah asked.
"I think I may have found the spark I needed to start my story." Kin replied, glancing at her.
Sarah clapped her hands in glee. "I can't wait to read it."
Smiling, she went back to looking at the group; her attention mainly on the blonde man and maid.
"Sarah, may I ask you a question?" Kin asked.
"Go ahead."
"How do you feel about a maid and her master being intimate?" She leaned back on her chair and stared at the ceiling. "Do you feel they would have a romantic story to them?"
"Maybe, but it's wrong. You shouldn't enter the household with the mains to seduce the master. We have our jobs to do, and we should do it well."
Kin expected Sarah to say such a thing. The old woman was old-fashioned and traditional. Of course, she wouldn't have the imagination to think such things.
It was strange seeing the differences between Konoha and Kirigakure. Buildings were spread apart, and there was a bunch of green fields that lay about with cows and cattle roaming free throughout. The air smelt much fresher and the smell of the fresh morning dew made her senses heighten. Everything about it was so different which made her so giddy on the side. She could not keep still and the smile she wore was obviously noticeable that even the stoic Uchiha couldn't help but smile, faintly.
At times she would stop on the path to watch the horses run around, and other times she would gawk at the cows feed on the grass. It was so magical! She had seen cows before, but never had she been so close.
As much as Naruto wanted to be upset, it was hard to ignore such a curious face. So, he and Sasuke would lean against the tree and watch as Konohamaru and she adored the creatures who seemed to adore them just as much.
There was a feeling bubbling within Naruto, and he was so confused about it. It couldn't be his health, but every time he looked at Hinata he got this feeling. This feeling was confusing, but he knew he wanted to be always near her. That Hinata was weird, he would admit but it was weird people like her he secretly admired.
Sasuke watched as his best friend's face turned a scarlet red color and he turned his head in the direction Naruto was looking at. Hinata. Shaking his head, he shoved his hands into his trousers and almost chuckled to himself.
He looked like a lovestruck fool, but Sasuke couldn't deny it, but he wondered what it felt like to love or have feelings for someone. Of course, he wouldn't admit something like that aloud because he was an Uchiha. Although the Uchihas were known for their stoic and cold personality, they loved the hardest. Love and the Uchihas? One would say it didn't go hand in hand, but it did. It has always been this way for generations that it was known as a family curse because some would lose their minds if the one they loved the most were to die.
"How do you feel about marriage, Naruto?" Sasuke's voice startled him from his thoughts which made him jump.
"Huh?" That was his response.
Sighing, Sasuke repeated his question.
The blonde man looked at the sky briefly then shrugged. "I don't know." He said truthfully. "I've never thought about it or felt the need to propose to a woman."
They continued to walk down the path, following Hinata and Konohamaru who were chattering to their hearts' content.
"Is there no one you're smitten by?" Sasuke inquired. "Someone you find fascinating and want to spend your life with?"
"Why are you asking me such things?" Naruto asked, giving Sasuke a perplexed expression. "It's unlike you to ask such things?"
"You're at that age. In the next two months, you'll be twenty and yet you haven't courted anyone."
"You're a year older than me and yet you haven't courted anyone. When do you plan on doing so, Mr. Uchiha?" Naruto questioned childishly, folding his arms.
Sasuke scoffed. "I swear you can be so childish. Instead of answering the question, you always deflect them."
"I do not. It's just a weird question to ask." Naruto mumbled.
"So, will you answer my question?" An annoyed Sasuke asked. Sometimes he wished God had given Naruto a few more brain cells to understand his feelings! The man may have been quick to act on the battlefield, but anything outside of it was just irritating.
"No," He answered in a soft tone.
Maybe Naruto really didn't know his feelings towards the Hyuga girl.
"Do you fancy being around someone?" Sasuke asked in simpler terms. "Like a lady?" He added.
Humming, Naruto nodded which left Sasuke surprised. Okay, so maybe they were getting somewhere. "Who?"
"I like being around Hinata." He said in a low tone. "She's weird, but I fancy being around her."
Sasuke waited for him to say more, but he never added anything to his answer. "You like being around her? Is that it?"
Naruto was getting annoyed by the questions. Was Sasuke trying to insinuate something?
"Yes, that's it." He said in a more irritating tone. "Are you trying to imply something about Hinata?" Naruto asked, raising his eyebrow.
Sasuke lowered his shoulders in defeat. "I'm not going to rush this story."
"And you've yet to answer my question. Do you plan on courting? You haven't taken a lady out yet, but there are quite a few who has taken an interest in you." Naruto spoke. "One of which is Sakura."
"I have no interest."
Sighing, Naruto rested his hand on Sasuke's broad shoulder which made the man stop in his tracks.
"Look, Sasuke I know we've been around each other for so long but I can't court you." The expression fell from Sasuke's face when Naruto said that. Hinata and Konohamaru who were closer also paused. "I'm a man so I can't get pregnant, and you need someone to carry the Uchiha name. It'll be best to find a woman who can carry your child."
"…"
"…"
"…"
Hinata patted the knot on the top of Naruto's head. Konohamaru didn't know whether to laugh or cry at Naruto's comment. Sasuke rotated his arm and shot a glare at Naruto who was being taken care of by Hinata.
"I swear you have no manners whatsoever," Sasuke grumbled. "Think before you speak, or someone might get the wrong impression of me."
"I was just being honest!" Naruto shouted.
"I know you were, dobe!"
"Teme!"
Hinata tried to contain her giggle as she had never seen this side of Naruto. "Now sir, he's right. If someone was to pass by, they would not take that comment lightly." She said, helping him to his feet.
Sasuke shoved his hands into his pocket and looked away while grumbling something about killing Naruto in his sleep.
Hinata patted the dirt from Naruto and adjusted his clothes. "All better." She smiled. "Sir, somehow I feel like we're forgetting something."
Naruto smiled cheekily. "No, we have everything."
(Back at the boarding house, the poor fox threw a tantrum as he was left behind by that evil man.)
Konohamaru followed behind Sasuke as he did not feel comfortable being around Hinata and Naruto during this time. The way they looked into each other's eyes made the entire world melt that it left a pang of jealousy in his heart. There was a phrase about carrying sand to the beach and that's how he was currently feeling when being around those two.
"What are you sulking about?" Sasuke asked once noticing Konohamaru's expression.
"N-Nothing!" He stuttered.
"You're still young and have a lot of time to think of such things. That one is off-limits, but you'll find that person one day." Sasuke said, in his usual stoic tone.
"W-what are you talking about, sir!?" Konohamaru almost shrieked.
"I'm not Naruto."
After grabbing a quick bite at a local café, they continued to walk down the grassy path until they found themselves along the side of a lake. Hinata's eyes widened when she saw a dock with some people climbing onto a white swan.
"Naruto," Hinata said, tugging at his sleeves. "What's that?" She pointed towards the funny object.
"It's a swan ride." He answered. "Would you like to go on it?"
She nodded her head eagerly. "I'll even pay for it if it cost."
Unexpectedly, she grabbed Naruto's hand and pulled him towards the dock. "Konohamaru we're going on the swan ride." She said when she passed the two men.
"Swan ride?" Konohamaru questioned, tilting his head.
The water glistened as the sun beamed on it. Hinata's eyes searched the little white swans with people drifting on the tranquil water.
"How do they do that?"
"Pedaling," Naruto responded. "I'll show you."
"I think I'll stay here because I didn't drink any of the tea," Konohamaru mumbled. As much fun as it looked, he didn't drink any tea to calm his motion sickness and he didn't want to ruin the day if he were to get sick.
Hinata was about to say something about doing it another day since she wanted Konohamaru to experience it too, but Sasuke interjected.
"You and Naruto can go, and I'll stay here with Konohamaru."
The hairs on the back of Konohamaru's neck stuck up.
"Are—"
"Come on Konohamaru," Sasuke said, walking towards a wooden bench.
"Enjoy Hinata. I'll be fine!"
Hinata glanced at Naruto as to know what to do. "You're here to enjoy yourself, Hinata. Sometimes it's okay to be selfish."
"But—"
"Well, maybe I want to go with you alone. Is that okay if I have you for myself this time?"
A light shade of red decorated Hinata's face, and she nodded.
Smiling, they walked towards the man who sold the tickets and Naruto quickly paid him before Hinata could.
"I said I would pay." Hinata reminded him.
"What man lets a woman pay if he has money? Do you think so little of me, Hinata?" Naruto said, saddening his expression.
"No, I do not but do you think so little of me that you won't let me pay?" She asked in a teasingly manner.
A small smile formed on Naruto's face. "I can never think so little of you Hinata."
Hinata lowered her head as to hide her burning face. His smile was captivating which put her in a slight trance. It was just something about looking into those blue eyes that made her forget how to breathe.
"Watch your step," Naruto said, taking a hold of her hand. Her heart skipped a beat the moment she felt his hand on hers. They were so warm and big. Was it always like this?
Nodding, she slowly made her way on the back of the swan and sat down on the white bench. The boat moved slightly when Naruto sat next to her that she ended up gripping his shirt in fear she would fall off. This made him chuckle and he reassured her that she was fine.
Hinata looked down when she saw Naruto's legs move up and down and that's when the swan boat began to move. The turquoise water below looked so calm and tranquil as the boat traveled along with it. Little ripples followed behind, and there was a soft breeze to add to the scenery.
Leaning over, she dipped her finger into the water then pulled it back upon feeling how cold it was. Naruto watched in amusement as he continued to pedal as slow as possible for Hinata's sake. The young girl seemed to be enjoying the ride because her eyes would go wide when she saw something fascinating.
"Are you enjoying the ride?" Naruto asked breaking her from her daze.
She nodded with enthusiasm. "It's lovely. I've never been on something like this. I didn't even know something like this exist." She mumbled.
"That's why there are a lot of worlds out there to explore," Naruto commented. "You'll see and then maybe you won't want to return to Konoha."
Hinata couldn't frown at the thought of never returning to Konoha. Of course, the people had done her wrong, but it was still home. Her family was there, the home she grew up in was still there, and how could she forget about Yumi and the kids? Marco? And most importantly, Naruto.
"What about you, Naruto? If you could, would you leave Konoha?" Hinata questioned. "Everything you've ever known is there. It would be a shame to leave it all behind."
The swan bot drifted slowly in the water as Naruto had stopped pedaling. There was a hushed silence between the two, but it was not awkward.
He hummed as he thought about Hinata's question. "It would be a shame to leave, but it's not like anyone is going to miss me."
Hinata almost gasped. "How could you say such a thing, sir? There are a lot of people that will miss you. You have Sasuke, Sakura, Ino, Konohamaru." Hinata said listing a few. "Even me!"
Naruto threw his head back and let out a soft chuckle. "How are you going to miss me, Hinata? Won't you be with me and our twelve children?"
Hinata's face turned extremely red when he said that. His words sounded so smooth and confident as they left his mouth. She was sure he heard her heartbeat uncontrollably. Why did his words make her feel so light on her feet? Why did she yearn to hear more of his sincere words?
"Twelve is still a lot, sir." She mumbled.
"What about fourteen?" He let out a laugh when he saw Hinata's face turn into a look of horror. "I'm just teasing you." He said as he continued to pedal.
"Are you serious, sir?" Hinata asked, crossing her arms.
"Maybe." He chuckled.
Hinata puffed out her cheeks and turned her head to look at the drifting clouds. The entire time she could feel her heart skip a beat and the palm of her hands turn sweaty.
Night made its way in Kirigakure, and so did the mist. Most of the boarders were either in the parlor or on the balcony conversating. Tired by today's events, Hinata was the first one in bed fast asleep. Naruto almost felt sad he wouldn't get to do his nightly routine with Hinata as he did not want to wake her up. So, once he had placed her on the bed, he left the bedroom and went into his.
The baby fox was still upset about being left behind that he gave Naruto a cold shoulder.
"Oh, why are you mad?" Naruto said, glaring at the fox. I'll let you out tomorrow, maybe."
He chuckled when the fox showed him his butt.
Sasuke only shook his head before he went back to writing a letter to Kiba, while Konohamaru was looking out the window admiring the mist outside.
"Is this why they call it the land of the mist?" He thought aloud.
"Yes. Certain parts have heavy mist throughout the day, so it's best to be careful in case there be any bandits." Naruto answered.
"Oh."
Sitting on the chair, Naruto grabbed a newspaper that sat on the coffee table and began to make a paper airplane out of it.
"There's going to be another war, huh?" Konohamaru inquired. He hadn't looked back at them, but he knew all eyes were on him. Why did he even say such a thing?
"It's best not to speak about these things," Sasuke said as he continued to write to Kiba.
"It'll do you no good to stress about something that hasn't happened," Naruto replied.
Sighing, Konohamaru looked over his shoulder and glanced at Naruto. "Sir, how do I become a man?"
Through the corner of his eyes, Sasuke glanced at Naruto.
"Your brain is coming up with a lot of questions tonight, huh Konohamaru?" Naruto said, not bothering to look at him.
Konohamaru shook his head. "I want to be more like you, sir."
Placing the paper plane down, Naruto turned to face Konohamaru. "Do you seriously want to be like me Konohamaru?"
The boy nodded eagerly. "Yes! You're strong, a hard worker, and you're just amazing!" Konohamaru said with sparkling eyes. "Is that not what it takes to be a man?"
"You should try to be your own man, Konohamaru," Naruto said in a stern tone. "I'm the wrong person to look up to."
The sparkles in his eyes turned dimmed until they were no longer there. "Oh. Um, I'll freshen up." He said, quickly leaving the room.
When the door closed, Sasuke spoke. "Weren't you a little harsh on him? After all, he looks up to you."
Naruto scoffed. "Am I really someone to look up to? I can't even answer the question of what it means to be a man." He mumbled the last part. "My father isn't alive to teach me, so how would I know?"
"Do you really learn what it is to be a man by a man? Or is it something that's learned? I don't think even a man can tell you what it is to be a man, but maybe tell us what we can do as men." Sasuke said stacking the papers together. "Did you have to speak to him in such a way? He admires you, whether you believe it or not."
"Why?" Naruto mumbled.
Sasuke shrugged. "The boy is attached to your side whether you like it or not. It'll do you some good to treat him better, especially with rumors of war circulating around. You wouldn't want him to seek a different path, I assume. Maybe we should test him to see who he is for?"
"No."
"Do you not trust him?" Sasuke asked, tilting his head causing his black hair to follow suit.
"He should enjoy every chance he gets now instead of worrying about such things, Sasuke. I know Konohamaru is not stupid, but I would rather him not know. Let him be for now."
"I understand Naruto, but there's going to be a time when it will happen. What if he decides to join the force? It'll be you against him."
"That won't happen."
"How do you know?" Sasuke questioned. "The Hokage is going to do anything to get Konoha's men on his side, even if it means manipulating the truth. He's going to use the younger men to his advantage and make false promises. Konohamaru has nothing and wishes to be like you. What makes you think he won't stray to a path that is not intended for him to achieve that goal?"
Naruto chewed on his bottom lip. He knew warning always came before destruction, and it was a possibility that everything Sasuke was saying could come true. But who was he to destroy Konohamaru's happiness? They finally got away from that god-forsaken place, why would he ruin their trip?
"He was left with nothing. Both parents and grandfather are dead, Asuma is in hiding, and he was left with nothing. The only person he really has is you and Hinata." Sasuke pointed out.
"I know this."
"And you should know to do something about it. Could you really kill him if it came to that? Remember, it's us against them. Kill or be killed. The battlefield is no place for hesitation."
"Why are you talking about such issues now?" Naruto questioned, slightly annoyed.
"Because I would hate for someone to go down the wrong path when there was a chance to prevent it," Sasuke grumbled. "We won't be able to hide our distaste for long."
Naruto looked at the brown door, then back at Sasuke. Getting up, he shoved his hands into his trousers and walked outside to the hall. He knew Sasuke was right, but still—.
The floorboard creaked eerily as he walked downstairs. Konohamaru was not in the bathroom upstairs, so he probably had to be in the parlor or dining room. He turned each corner and walked down the narrow halls until he reached the parlor room. As expected, Konohamaru, with his head lowered, sat in the corner.
Konohamaru looked up when he saw the chair beside him move. "Sir! W-was I gone for too long? Did you need something?" His face was flushed, and it was obvious he had been crying.
"No."
Calming down a little, Konohamaru nodded and fiddled with his fingers. "I want to apologize sir. It was wrong for me to ask you those questions and express my feelings. I've been a real thorn in your side from the day I entered your household. I'm sorry."
Naruto sighed softly as he tapped his fingers against the wooden table. "Konohamaru, why do you look up to me? Do you really want to be someone like me?" He asked, pointing to himself.
"I do." He replied in a soft voice. "You have everything sir. As I lay dying on the floor the day those bandits attacked Hinata, I watched how you protected the household without so much as a sweat. You took me in, fed me, clothed me, and even though I screwed up, you gave me a chance. I said something horrible about Hinata, and you put me in my place, and you still forgave me. You built a house for Yumi and the kids, and they all look up to you. I don't care how grumpy you are. You always do right. You may be my master, but…. You're more like a brother to me."
"I see."
"I really like you, sir," Konohamaru admitted.
Naruto let Konohamaru's word sink in. Sasuke was right, that bastard. "It was not my intention to make you feel such a way Konohamaru. Honestly, even I don't know what it means to be a man. I know we are to protect and provide, but surely there's more to it right? I only have vivid memories of my father, and in all of them, he made my mother and me happy and protected us. That's all I remember. I'm sorry if I am unable to answer the questions you seek." He took in a deep breath. "I'm not the nicest person. Wouldn't it be best to look up to somebody else? Anyone with money could do those things you mentioned."
Konohamaru shook his head. "That's not true sir! I mean money could buy all those things, but everything also depends on that person. You have a kind heart, sir. Besides, I think you're doing a good job so far. You make a lot of people happy, especially Hinata."
By there mere mention of her name, Naruto's cheeks turned unknowingly red. Konohamaru noticed, so he chewed down on his bottom lip to swallow his words. Now it made sense what Sasuke said.
"Try not to worry yourself about these kinds of things, Konohamaru," Naruto said, ruffling Konohamaru's unkempt brown hair. "You should enjoy the little things while you can, and think of war later."
"But how can I not think about it? Or being a man?" He frowned when Naruto removed his hand.
"Why are you in such a rush?"
"Because there's someone I love," Konohamaru admitted. "I want to be strong and rich so I can always protect her. I can't be this weakling who cowers every time something goes wrong."
Naruto pressed his lips together, then nodded. "I understand now."
"Are you upset, sir?"
Naruto leaned back on the wooden chair and crossed his arms. "No, Konohamaru. I now understand why you're in such a rush. So, let's make a deal," Naruto said, eyeing him.
Konohamaru eyed him eagerly.
"There mere mention of war is horrendous. During this trip, you are not to worry about war and being a man per se. I want you to enjoy your trip, and once everything is done, we will have a thorough discussion about it. Is that a deal?"
"Do you really mean it, sir?"
"Yes, Konohamaru, but you must keep your end of the bargain."
Nodding eagerly, he squeezed his fist and gawked at Naruto in admiration. "Then maybe I'll be able to beat you one day."
"Maybe," Naruto said, a slight smile noticeable on his face.
"I definitely will! A-and I'll repay you everything back once I make it! I promise! I'm going to get so rich and strong, and I'll protect you too."
Naruto listened as Konohamaru ranted on and would nod occasionally, to let him know he was listening. The stars in Konohamaru eyes grew bigger and bigger the more Naruto nodded.
"Take it one step at a time, Konohamaru." Naruto reminded.
"I will sir!"
"What did I tell you about calling me sir while we're traveling," Naruto said. "Just refer to me as Naruto."
"Yes sir!"
Sighing, Naruto shook his head then slowly got up. Let's go to bed." He spoke.
Happily, Konohamaru jumped off the chair and ran upstairs to get rid of the energy that was stored inside him. He felt livelier than before with his conversation with Naruto. He would make sure he spoke of no war, or sulk about what it was to be a man.
Naruto pushed the chairs in before he walked slowly towards the entrance. Suddenly, he stopped in his tracks and slammed his hand down on the brown table. There was a thud and soft groan.
"Has anyone ever taught you it's wrong to spy on people?" He questioned as he watched the young girl crawl from under the clothed table.
"I was not spying." Kin said, dusting herself. "I was trying to find my lucky pendant I dropped at dinner time." She scoffed.
Naruto eyed the brunette down and she couldn't help but tremble in her white nightgown.
"Shouldn't you be with your lady?" Kin barked, pointing at him.
"Shouldn't you put more clothes on?" He countered.
Kin's face turned red, and she bit her lips to hide what she truly wanted to say. "Hmph!" She kicked him in his shin and quickly ran upstairs.
"Ow!" Naruto shouted as he hopped on one foot as he tried to hold his aching leg.

.
Morning came, and the mist wasn't as harsh as it was the day prior. The time showed it was almost eight, and there were already people who were either getting ready to start their day or checking out of the boarding house.
Hinata rolled on her side when the sun's rays hit her face, and she even wiggled her nose. She felt the spot beside her, hoping to feel the lump that was always by her side, but to her surprise, he wasn't there. Slowly, she got up and looked down at the empty spot beside her. That's right. Naruto never stayed too long. Now she wondered, did he even sleep with her last night?
They did a lot of sightseeing the day prior, and she recalled them eating before she got sleepy.
"Did he carry me here?" She asked aloud.
There was a knock on the door that caught her attention. Already knowing who it belonged to, she went to open it and was met with a lick on the face.
"He would not let me leave until I carried him," Naruto said, sounding disappointed.
That's who she forgot! "I'm so sorry!" She said, cradling the fox. "I didn't mean to forget about you."
"Yes, she did, and she enjoyed every second when you weren't around," Naruto said, giving the fox a smug look. "We should have thrown him overboard."
Hinata gasped as she tightened her grip on the fox. "How could you say such a cruel thing?"
"How could you go to sleep without me?"
"I was very sleepy." She mumbled. "Besides, you could have rested your head before taking your leave."
The corner of his lips tugged up and he nodded. "Why don't you freshen up and join us for breakfast?" Naruto grabbed the fox from Hinata and planted him on the top of his head.
"You be careful with him," Hinata warned, shooting him a sharp glare.
Naruto glanced over his shoulder then shrugged. "I can't make any promises." The fox thumped his paw on the middle of Naruto's forehead. "You know I've never had fox to eat. I wonder how they taste." There was a little grumbling coming from the fox, and Hinata couldn't help but giggle as she interpreted the fox arguing with Naruto.
As she was about to enter her room, a soft voice called out to her. "Excuse me."
Turning around, Hinata saw a shorter girl with long dark hair gawking at her. Hinata bowed slightly before saying, "Good morning."
"Good morning." She mumbled.
Hinata cocked her head to the side as she watched the young girl fidget. "How can I help you miss?"
Pleasantries and mannerism were that of someone who was used to serving people is what Kin concluded. It was true. This beautiful woman standing before her was the help. Her sharp eyes couldn't help but gawk at the young woman's body and face. She had such soft features, something Kin was lacking. Her father would have enjoyed his time with a woman like this, so she wondered if that master did too.
The night prior, there weren't any signs of that happening in the room, neither did their conversations led to that. In fact, the young blonde man seemed to be very fond of his servants, especially this one. Now Kin couldn't help but wonder, was there anything going on between the two? She had followed them briefly yesterday but had ended up losing track of them. But to her discovery, they seemed to be having a very fun time.
"You're a maid, aren't you?"
"Is it that obvious?" Hinata questioned, a slight smile visible on her face. "Is there something you need help with?"
"Is there something going on between you and your master?"
Kin stared at Hinata oddly as the young girl did not flinch. Instead, she only smiled and shook her head. "No."
"You two are very close for a master and maid." She raised her thick eyebrow. "Surely something is going on between you two."
The soft smile Hinata wore never faded. No or yes, who would believe her?
"No," Hinata repeated.
For some reason, Kin believed her once looking into her lavender eyes. She had witnessed a lot of their maids throwing themselves at her father, and it was obvious to know when they were lying. She couldn't fathom why her mother was still with her father after all the oblivious affairs, but who could blame her? Her father was a very vicious man.
"I see." Kin said, rubbing her chin. It was a habit she inherited from her father anytime they were in deep thought.
"Your master is really mean, but I'm glad to know he doesn't treat you cruelly." Kin admitted. "I've been watching you two interact with one another," she said, peeking at Hinata through one eye. "You two seem very fond of one another. One might even say love is blossoming. Or perhaps you harbor feelings for your master?"
Hinata's face turned completely red. "Uh… um… p-p-lease don't talk of such things. I'm nothing more than a mere maid."
"But you did not deny it." Kin said, smiling cheekily.
"I- I must be on my way," Hinata said in a rush tone. "Please take care."
Quickly, she entered the room and pressed herself against the wooden door. Placing her hand over her chest, she dropped to the ground with a thud and pulled her knees against her chest. "Why am I so flustered?" She said aloud as she patted her heated cheeks. "How could I think of love? Especially with my master of all people. I'm nothing more than a maid."
Then she suddenly remembered the conversation they had:
"N… Naruto, how do you feel about a master courting his maid?" She mumbled; her eyes lingered to the ground. "Wouldn't that disgust you?" She swallowed the lump in her throat when she said that and for some reason, her eyes began to water.
"There's nothing wrong with that."
Hearing that, she quickly looked at him and had a questionable look on her face.
"Love is love, regardless of who it is. Whether it be a maid, master, or a person without a home, love is love. There's nothing disgusting about that."
"He makes everything sound so effortless, but the world doesn't work that way," Hinata grumbled. "I'm just a lowly maid, and he's of importance. I'm nothing compared to him." The more she spoke, the darker her thoughts became.
Maids were treated like trash, despite keeping the household together. Can the master push a thread through the eye of the needle? Can the misses make her own tea? Take care of the children? They could, but they wouldn't. Why would they do such a job if a lowly maid existed? She's been a maid for many years, so she grew accustomed to seeing things in the household. Her parents owned a lot of servants, and they weren't treated with disrespect, touched against their will, or even whipped.
The Hyuga's were peaceful people who chose to speak with their words before resulting in any altercations. She was foolish to think that it would be the same for her.
Being the only child in the household wasn't good because the older maids made her do most of the work. Like the masters, they mocked and beat her for the simplistic mistakes. When she grew older and prettier she caught the attention of most masters which resulted in a bicker between the Lady of the household and them. She tried her best to stay on the madam's good side and would even flock around her if it meant keeping her husband away, but they didn't protect her. So alas, she was left to the cruel fate of whatever they had installed for her, and she just took it. What else could she have done? With no inheritance, who would pay for Hanabi? At least when she died, Hanabi would have money to survive, even if it was just for a little bit. Besides, her sister was young and beautiful and not to mention educated. She wouldn't find a hard time finding a rich man to love her. Just thinking about that made Hinata happy.
Just because she couldn't have love didn't mean Hanabi didn't deserve it. For Hanabi, she chose to survive and put up with this life.
Tears swelled in the corner of her eyes. She was happy for her, but there was no point denying she was jealous too. Did it make her a bad person?
If it wasn't for the war, then she would have lived a happier life. She wouldn't be subjected to this humiliation. People wouldn't have died and Konoha would have probably been this wonderful place she thought it to be. The kids at the orphanage would probably still have parents, and maybe Yumi's husband would still be alive. Neji would be here with them. Konohamaru would have his parents. Nagato wouldn't have killed himself. And Naruto would have been happy.
No matter how much she tried to wipe the tears away, they wouldn't stop.
Her parents were dead and not buried. Did they even make it to heaven? Did her household? Why did Konoha's people hate her so much? Why did they choose to spread lies about her?
Startled by a knock at the door, Hinata used the sleeves of the kimono to wipe her eyes away.
"Hinata,"
Her heart squeezed by the sound of her name. How did he know to come when she needed him the most?
Fixing herself, she stood up and open the door slowly. "I-I'm sorry for making you wait, sir. I'll be right down."
She almost fell back when he swung the door open. "Did someone hurt you? Why are your eyes red?"
There was an angry look in Naruto's eyes. "I'm fine!" She yelped. "I-I—"
"Hinata, please don't lie to me. You are to tell me if someone ever hurts you."
"Sir," Hinata said, shaking her head. "Nobody hurt me. I- I…. just please calm down."
Sighing, Naruto looked around the room for anything out of the ordinary. "I should have come sooner when you weren't downstairs yet. Why were you crying?" His eyes softened when he glanced at her.
Hinata felt she was on top of a cloud when she sure his blue eyes searched into hers. "I was just thinking." She mumbled as she tried to look away from him. "And I guess it got the best of me."
"Were you thinking about Konoha?"
Her head snapped in his direction. How did he know so much about her?
"I know it's only been a few days, so it's going to take some time but please don't hurt yourself thinking about it. Use this time to think about Hinata." Naruto said, never breaking his gaze from her. "Would you like to talk about it with me?"
Hinata chewed down on her bottom lip and shook her head. "It's a stupid thing to be upset about."
"Well, it couldn't be that stupid if it left you all red in the face." Naruto pointed out. He closed the door behind him and made his way to the chair. "Come on." He said, patting the extra chair. There are other places to sightsee before we leave here." Reluctant to go, she caved and join Naruto when he gave her a stern look. "Now tell me, what's going on?"
"You won't judge me?"
"Have I ever?" Naruto replied.
Sighing, she fiddled with her fingers. "I am happy for my sister. She's getting the education she needs, and she is a very beautiful lady. I wish her all the best, but I can't help but feel a pang of jealousy." She said, touching the spot where her heart is. Is it wrong for me to feel this way?"
Naruto thought about it, then shook his head. "No, I don't think you're wrong for feeling that way Hinata. In fact, I feel being jealous is a part of human nature. Even I get jealous at times."
"You do?"
"Yes, I do. Besides, it's not like you're wishing ill upon your sister. In your situation, isn't it normal to feel as such?" Naruto mentioned. "I know it isn't much, but I'll do my best to help you."
"S-sir! No, there's…. you've done so much for me." Hinata reminded, lowering her gaze.
"And you've done a lot for me, Hinata. Besides, who else am I going to spend all this money on?" Naruto said, his eyes drifting to the ceiling.
"But shouldn't you save it for your true love," Hinata whispered. "She wouldn't feel comfortable with you spending all of your money or time on me."
Naruto nodded. "You're right, so I'll just have to get rid of her."
Hinata felt her heart skip a beat upon hearing him say that. "Hinata, I may be a lot of things, but I am a man who stays true to his words. If I were to find my true love right now, I shall look the other way. We made a promise and I intend to keep it. I won't ever get married until you do, and if you don't then I won't."
Why was her heart beating so uncontrollably?
"Hm. It would probably make sense for us to get married since we have no intentions of marrying anyone else." Naruto said thoughtfully, nodding his head.
Hinata's skin rivaled that of a tomato. She quickly covered Naruto's mouth before he could say anything further.
"Hmifna!"
"Sir, do you always speak before thinking?" Hinata said, sighing. She could feel him smiling in the palm of her hand.
Before she could remove her hand from his mouth, Naruto had already taken a hold of her. "No, I do not. It's a trait I've picked up from my mother." He laughed. Hinata couldn't help but giggle. "Konohamaru and Sasuke have probably already eaten. Why don't you freshen up so we can put something in that stomach of yours?" He got up and did a few stretches. "I'll be downstairs waiting for you."
Once he was gone, Hinata dropped to the floor and covered her face. Even after he was gone, her heart still called out for him, and her skin yearned for his touch. This wasn't possible and maybe she was mistaken. She didn't know what love for a man felt like, but still….
Looking at her smaller hand, her heart fluttered as she could still feel Naruto's smile. How long will she be able to deny these feelings?
Your reviews mean a lot to me. Thank you.

(Extra)
If someone were to ask Hinata what peace is, then she would have said this very moment here.
The sinking sun painted the sky with an orangey and pink color, and there was a slight breeze that cooled them down. Under the oak tree, Hinata pressed herself against the brown trunk as she stared into the eyes of Naruto.
Although his smile was faint, his eyes told a different picture. They were warm and inviting that she couldn't break her gaze away. Placing his hand on the tree, he leaned closer to Hinata, and she quickly held her breath.
"N—"
"Hinata, where are the cinnamon rolls?"
The young girl puffed out her cheeks and glared at him. "I have no idea what you're talking about." She crossed her arms.
"Oh really? You were the only one who held them during the buggy ride home, and now suddenly they're gone."
"It's been a long time since I've had a cinnamon roll, sir," Hinata said, taking a glimpse at him through the corner of her eye.
Naruto chuckled. "It's only been a day or two."
"Do you even like sweets, sir?"
Naruto couldn't help but smile. "I do. Are you really going to hide them from us?"
"But I believe they put honey in it, and remember you hate the taste of honey," Hinata said, timidly.
Ruffling her hair, he grinned. "You've been around me too long, Hinata. Have I rubbed off on you?"
Hinata closed her eyes as Naruto ruffled her head. Her heart thumped uncontrollably by his touch, and she was even sad when he removed his hand.
"I think I'm going to check your room in search of the missing cinnamon buns," Naruto said as he began to walk away.
Naruto's eyes widened when Hinata ran past him to get to the back door. "I knew it!" He shouted, chasing after her.
A slight giggle escaped her precious lips.
If only life could remain like this.
