AN: Ok, consider this a potential spoiler but since events depicted haven't happened in Grimm fate as of writing, I do suggest to take this lightly. Still, hope you all enjoy and that this short piece I had in my hard drive made your day.
Also, I do not own RWBY or Fenrir Lupus. Both are owned by their respective owners.
Ruby Rose was on her way to the rooftop to meet up with Fenrir Lupus. He had just sent her a message on her scroll to see him there. She didn't know why but decided that it might have been important given what had happened recently.
She left the ballroom after Ozpin gave her some life advice or so she thinks. While she did get that Ozpin wanted her to enjoy herself at the dance, Ruby's old social awkwardness said otherwise. Ruby was replaying the events that unfolded in the CCT Tower where an intruder had sneaked in. Fenrir was with her as they battled the intruder however she was able to escape. They were both debriefed about the incident by Ozpin, Ironwood, and Glynda before being subsequently dismissed. Once they had both exited the elevator, Fenrir said he had somewhere to go before parting ways. Heading in the opposite direction of the ballroom, she at least understood Fenrir not wanting to be there again given how much of a reaction the school had towards him. More so when more students from other schools came to Beacon for the Vytal Festival.
Truth be told, she also wanted to get some distance away from the ballroom. Maybe she wasn't paying attention earlier in the year but more eyes were on her team after some students confronted them about their friendship with Fenrir. To her, it seemed like more students were giving her team side glances after that. Thankfully, it didn't seem like Yang, Blake, and Weiss were bothered by this and to them, it didn't seem like Ruby Rose was affected either. But her desire to have a reason to leave the ballroom said otherwise.
Ruby was on the flight of stairs that lead to the rooftop. Fenrir had been invited by Yang to come to join them in the ballroom dance to the doubt of Weiss and Blake on whether or not they should after being confronted earlier this week by those students. Still, Yang insisted on Fenrir and everyone else relenting. She even managed to rent Fenrir a suit for the occasion (with some help from Weiss). Topping it off, Fenrir was given some dance lessons even though the Alpha had stated he wouldn't dance...before asking what even dancing was. Yang saw that as a reason to teach him how to dance and once again managed to get Weiss to teach him some ballroom dancing. Ruby had no idea how Yang was able to do that and until now still had no idea.
Ruby had reached the last flight of stairs and opened the door to the rooftop. Under the soft light of Remnant's broken moon was Fenrir looking out at Beacon. He turned around at the sound of Ruby closing the door. He was dressed in the suit that Yang had rented him with which was similar to the suits other boys were wearing at the dance. The only difference was the midnight blue colored rims and bowtie which matched Fenrir's appearance.
"Ruby," Fenrir said in a rather glad tone as though he was doubting if she would come.
"Hey, Fenrir." Ruby began. "So why did you ask me to come here Fenrir, does it have something to do with the incident at the CCT tower?"
"Well...not exactly." Fenrir turned slightly away as he scratched his head. Ruby raised a brow. "Remember when Yang decided that I should learn how to dance even though I didn't want to."
Ruby gave a soft giggle. "Yup, and how Weiss was the one teaching you."
"Hehe...Yeah. She can be quite the instructor. And it's a miracle I never stepped on her foot even once. I don't think it could have gone as well as it did otherwise."
"Uh-huh..So Fenrir, why did you ask me to come here if it's not about the CCT tower?" Ruby asked, going straight to the point. Fenrir seemed rather hesitant at this with his tail flicking around behind him.
"Remember that little explanation on what Yang said about dancing? How you do it for fun and to enjoy yourselves?" Ruby gave a small nod. Curious as to where Fenrir was going.
"You see...uh maybe this will explain things better." Fenrir then reached into his pocket to fish out his scroll and selected something from it. A moment later, music came out from it. The same ballroom music played at the beacon ball she had just left.
"You see" Fenrir then placed his scroll in the inner pocket of his suit ensuring that the music would play out with clarity. "I...thought that maybe we should…..dance." This caught Ruby off guard as she suddenly felt her cheeks warm up.
"Dance…?"
"Seeing as you don't have a partner and how everyone else is enjoying themselves. I thought that...we should have some fun as well."
With this Fenrir reached out his hand, just as Weiss had taught him when one asked another for a dance. Ruby now felt her heartbeat jump as she kept her hands together. She looked up towards Fenrir who had a soft smile on him. Over the past few months, Fenrir had slowly learned how to give a more natural smile that made him much younger-looking and more approachable. Combine this with the soft glow of the moon on his face and he looked very...handsome. Ruby had no idea why she thought of that but seeing how he was waiting for her to receive it, she reached out her hand to receive his and the two got into dancing positions as the music on Fenrir's scroll played.
Before having fully processed what was happening, they were now dancing to the music in a natural rhythm as they glided across the rooftop under a moonlit night. Ruby was mesmerized at Fenrir now for the first time. He certainly learned those dancing lessons well from Weiss as they glided through the night. A few minutes passed before Ruby spoke up as they danced.
"Fenrir..if you wanted to ask me out for a dance. Why here on the rooftop and not at the ballroom?"
"I'm sure you still remembered what happened this week in the hallway, where those students confronted you about me." The Alpha replied while not missing a beat as he gave Ruby a twirl. "I…. i don't want you or anyone from your team to get involved with my beef with the student body so I thought it would be best if we did this out of sight. There's no telling what else they will call your team if they see us like this." The two continued on the rooftop for a few more minutes. Ruby did not have much else to say as she was taking at this moment.
"And Yang…" He gave a small chuckle. "Well, I don't think anyone will be able to hold her back if that happens.
A few more steps and Ruby finally spoke up. "That's...rather kind of you Fenny. Thank you." Fenrir always had some hesitation about the nickname Ruby used but tonight, he didn't care. Like Ruby, he was enjoying this dance he was having with Remnant's moon as their only witness.
"Also, Fenny." Ruby looked up at Fenrir. Her silver eyes simmering under the moonlight. "Thank You again, for this little secret dance we are having now. It's actually…" Ruby was trying to say romantic but for some reason, she couldn't summon the confidence to say it out loud. As though she couldn't at the moment.
"You're Welcome," Fenrir replied, not minding Ruby was stumbling in her words. Ruby was rather glad she didn't' need to finish herself and instead resumed just simply enjoying the night.
And their secret dance under the moonlit night.
AN: Hope you enjoyed this little story I wrote and how this helped brighten your day especially if you are all having some rough times now. I had this in my drive for a while and I decided to post it so that you can enjoy it while I'm busy with my job. Don't worry, I'll eventually post a new chapter but for now I need some work.
BTW, Sub Rosa means "under the Rose" with Roses in ancient times being associated with secrecy. Quite funny isn't it?
