Story Arc: Welcome to a Nevermore
Episode 2: The First Day of School (II)
Chapter 7: A simple interview
Plot: Wednesday, Luz and Bruce, arrived at Nevermore, now they have to go through a simple interview with the director, Weems.
The dark girl manages to pass her interview without too much trouble, within the standards of the Addams.
But Luz and Bruce get a wacky moment during their interview, thanks to some of Bruce's beastly traits.
Finally, the three of them set off outside the headmistress's office to see their dorm.
XXX
POV Narrator
After announcing their presence to the school secretariat, the two wacky families were sent straight to Principal Larissa Weems' office.
Normally, the interview should involve only the principal, the parents and the future extension.
For better or for worse, Principal Weems knows Gomez, Morticia and Eda personally.
Principal Weems having a good idea of the personalities of 3/4 of the parents present at the interview, it was no surprise that Weems decided to make the interview run differently than normal.
By bringing the two families and three possible future students together in his office, Weems probably wants to start and end this ordeal as soon as possible.
The fame of the Addams Family precedes him wherever he goes, the same goes for Mrs. Owl.
XXX
The three prospective Nevermore students are sitting in chairs in front of Principal Weems' desk.
Wednesday stands to the left, Luz to the right, and Bruce stands center between the two girls, a meek smile on his lips.
The parents of the three are behind them, for lack of chairs they have to stand.
This formation creates an image that can be interpreted in different ways depending on the individual viewing.
For Weems, it's a simple and orderly way to be a parent and his future pupils.
For Eda, the lack of chairs is a sign of petty revenge by Weems for the numerous pranks suffered in the past.
For Wednesday, this arrangement is unpleasant in a bad way, the brooding girl feels like she's stuck in her parents' shadow.
For Bruce, the whole scene makes them feel like nothing. He just wishes this interview would end and his mothers would go home, leaving him alone with his plans.
Finally, Luz with her long list of bad experiences staying in the offices of school principals. He feels a kind of benevolent assurance in having two of her three mother figures near her.
'Pity "Aunt" Lilith couldn't come with us. But her pregnancy and being stuck in her harpy form makes it difficult to carry around.' Think Luz, wanting so much to have Lilith at her side for this interview.

Larissa Weems is an extraordinarily tall woman with blonde hair and blue eyes.
Her hair is always styled to perfection and she wears makeup, especially her constant red lipstick. She wears a long coat with an exaggerated white collar.
Seem coordinates the colors of her suit with her coat to maintain a proper and professional look.
Principal Weems began the interview, pulling out a folder with Wednesday's name and photograph on it.
"Wednesday is certainly a unique name. I guess it was the day you were born?" Weems asks, starting with a rather innocuous question to break the ice and lighten the mood.
Plus, Weems is quite curious, wanting to know the reason for such an unusual name. When it comes to the
Addams you never know what's on their minds.
"I was born on Friday the 13th." Wednesday replies, letting everyone know the day of her unfortunate birth.
"Because that doesn't surprise me. Wednesday born on Friday the thirteenth is sadness personified. While Luz born on October 31st is a witch as few can imagine." Bruce comments, not knowing whether to consider Wednesday's birthdate a coincidence or pure fate.
"His name comes from a line from my favorite nursery rhyme. Wednesday's Child Is Full of Woe." Morticia replies, feeling proud to have come up with such an original and well-chosen name for her little crow.
"You've always had a unique perspective on the world, Morticia." Weems said, knowing firsthand how eccentric Morticia can be.
"Did your mom tell you we were roommates back then?" Weems asks, trying to do her duty as principal to the best of her ability, unaffected by old experiences with Morticia and Gomez.
' There is a history between these two women. From Gomez's body language and her wanting to avoid making eye contact with the principal.
Combined with the subtle looks Weems and Morticia gave each other, there was likely a love rivalry between the two of them over Gomez.
A conflict that won Morticia.' Think Bruce, managing to grasp the most hidden details among these people, managing to paint a big picture of what probably happened in their past.
"And you graduated with your sanity intact? Noteworthy." Wednesday said, in his usual apathetic tone, showing Weems a little respect.
Wednesday has been unable to tolerate the presence of her mother lately, living with her in their large mansion. The thought of living with a youthful version of her in a cramped room is an uncomfortable nightmare.
"You've definitely had a very interesting educational path. Eight schools in five years." Weems said, flipping through Wednesday's file, noting in addition to perfect grades, a large amount of teacher focus on Wednesday's antisocial and violent behavior.
"They didn't build one strong enough to hold me.
I bet this place won't be any different." Wednesday said, as if it were a promise he'll deliver.
The dark girl doesn't even try to hide her intent to escape as soon as possible from Nevermore Academy and her parents' influence.
"What our daughter is trying to say is that she really appreciates the opportunity." Gomez said, speaking for the first time since he walked into Weems' office, trying to stop her little scorpion from sabotaging itself.
"Larissa, as much as I'd like to continue to see where this conversation ends.
Could you tell me about… about Wednesday's, um… therapy sessions?
Court ordered them." Morticia said, mentioning one of the obligations Wednesday has to answer for the actions.
"The school is having an affair with a therapist in Jericho. He can meet twice a week." Weems responds quickly, having already dealt with students who for one reason or another need specialized help.
"Did you hear, my little storm cloud? You're in good hands." Declares Gomez, in a happy tone, trying to see the positive side of this extravagant interview.
"We'll see if it survives the first private encounter." Wednesday replies, having a few pleasant things in mind for her therapist.
"By chance my little real assigned to Morticia's old dormitory. Ofelia Hall." Morticia asks, wanting to know where her daughter is actually sent.
"Refresh my memory. Ophelia is the one who kills herself after being driven insane by her family, right?" Wednesday said, unable to help but comment with her usual note of sarcasm.
"Due to the increasing number of students in recent years, we had to build new dormitories. Wednesday will be assigned to the Orphéus dormitory." Weems said, reporting the recent construction of modern dormitories for the new influx of students.
"Orphéus..." Wednesday murmurs softly, savoring the name of his dorm, finding it tasteful.
"In Greek mythology, Orpheus was the son of the Thracian king Eagro and the muse Calliope.
Apollo, fond of Orpheus, gave him a small golden lyre, which he quickly learned.
Taught to sing verses by his mother, Orpheus was so skilled at making music that he was called "Master of Strings" and "Father of Songs", capable of such music that even rocks and animals would be forced to dance.
Upon the death of his wife Eurydice, Orpheus was so distracted that his mournful singing brought nymphs and gods to tears.
Traveling to the underworld, he used his music to soften the hearts of Hades and Persephone, who allowed him to bring his wife back to the upper world on the condition that he walk in front and not look back until they had both arrived on the surface .
In his anxiety, Orpheus forgot his warning and looked back when he alone had reached the surface, and saw his wife vanish, this time forever.
At the time of his death, Orpheus had become an apostate, spurning all gods save for Apollo, who thanked him for his golden lyre.
For this he was ripped apart by Dionysian Maenads although according to other versions, he is ripped apart for refusing to participate in their drunken and orgies, on account of remaining committed to his lost lover, only his head and lyre remaining.
His head floated down the Hebrus, continuing to sing sad songs until it was buried on the island of Lesbos, while his lyre was carried to the sky by the muses and placed among the stars." Bruce explained the myth of the famous Orpheus, having a penchant for tragic love stories.
" You are well informed about the myth of Orpheus." He watches Weems, a big smile on his face, as he begins the Clawthorne-Noceda talks.
" My puppy is a multidisciplinary genius, there are very few things in the world he doesn't know." Eda said, with a fierce smile, ruffling Bruce's hair affectionately.
" Eda, you don't know how surprised I am to learn that you have adopted three orphans and are planning to marry a woman with as many children.
I thought you liked living alone with no one to answer to." Weems said, his tone full of surprise, having had to read the documents over and over again to believe it.
Eda Clawthorne one of Nevermore Academy's worst alumni, a woman who boasted that she will forever be a free witch, depends and won't start a family to chain her.
She has become a Mother Owl with a nest full of babies, none of them really hers, which makes the change even bigger.
"Life is full of surprises. One moment you're a wild witch who thinks you've got your own business, then without a warning you end up living under the same roof as a teenager who thinks he's the Sherlock Holmes of the supernatural." Eda said, with a motherly smile, still praising and ruffling Bruce's hair
" Then you meet a fantastic girl and her beautiful mother, then more children appear and finally a ring." Eda said, with an even bigger smile and a saccharine look, starting to ruffle Luz's hair as well.
"I love you too, Mother Owl. You have no idea how long I'm waiting for the wedding to make it official!" Luz said, a big smile on her lips, waiting for this moment since the first official date between her magic teacher and her biological mother.
'Eda has changed so much that she is unrecognizable.' Weems thinks, not daring to interrupt this little mother and son/daughter moment, having never seen this side of Eda.
Luckily, there is a dark girl who doesn't hesitate to sting people.
"You three are sickeningly sweet. You make me want to throw up." Wednesday said, clenching his fists.
The dark girl feels a strange feeling in her heart, at the sight of Bruce and Luz getting along with Eda, so well.
A completely opposite situation of the current relationship between Wednesday and Morticia.
Wednesday's little turmoil was interrupted by a bizarre event caused by Bruce.
Wednesday's little turmoil was interrupted by a bizarre event caused by Bruce.
"For the tomb of Niccolo di Bernardo dei Machiavelli. Bruce you grew ears and a dog's tail." Wednesday said, barely managing to keep his voice monotonous, pointing to Bruce's head.
The gloomy girl is not exaggerating, a pair of snow-white wolf ears have appeared on Bruce's head, paired with a bushy wolf tail.
The most striking part is the lively wagging tail.
"A shape-shifter? I thought your son was a sorcerer?" Principal Weems said, thinking she'd gotten some information.
Unlike Wednesday, Principal Weems isn't the least bit surprised.
As the principal of a school full of supernatural teenagers of all kinds, Weems has seen oddities in every imaginable form.
The polar wolf's ears have suddenly risen, a sign that Bruce is alarmed.
"Damn side effects." Bruce mumbles, wincing slightly, he doesn't support when these appendages come out.
"Don't sulk, me and a lot of other girls, we find these cute ears or this fluffy tail cute." Luz said, starting to stroke the wolf's ears in exactly the right place, to make her tail wag.
"Stop it right now!" Bruce shouts, grabbing Luz's hands, making them stop with her affectionate gestures.
"But at home you don't have any problem stroking your wolf ears?" Luz said, pouting, hating not being able to pet a cute little animal or in this case wolf ears.
"Yes, when we're at home and especially when I'm more animal than man. Don't you realize we're in an inappropriate place for this kind of thing!" Bruce said, they scold Luz for her behavior.
The good witch begins to blush with shame, having simply forgotten where she is.
In his defense, Bruce rarely shows off his Wolf-Boy parts.
"Are you some kind of Luz's pet?" Wednesday asks, obviously teasing Bruce for his bestial traits and permissive behavior towards Luz.
Bruce's tail and ears straightened suddenly and the room temperature dropped sharply.
"Call me pet one more time. And I swear, at the first opportunity to get away with it, I will savagely assault you." Bruce said, glaring at Wednesday with a ferocious glare.
In that moment of rage, Bruce's good eye began to glow a fluorescent yellow/gold color, followed by the metamorphosis of the pupil, becoming a five-pointed star.
Mrs. Owl noticing how Wednesday and Bruce are looking at each other, decided to intervene before anything bad happens.
"Bruce, behave yourself, we are not at the scene of a crime." Eda said, touching Bruce's shoulder, bringing his eye back to normal.
"Wednesday, the same goes for you. Don't provoke your upcoming fellow students, if you step on their tail too many times, you risk getting bitten." Morticia said, inadvertently making a joke about dogs.
Bruce looking menacingly at Morticia.
"Not wanting to offend, I was pointing out the possibility that Bruce could be part of the werewolf race." said Wednesday, knowing what to say to make the teasing of him into mere innocent remarks.
"Bruce isn't a werewolf, he's… I'm not sure how to classify him. But he's definitely not a werewolf, even if he does show certain similarities at times." Camila said, not too sure she should participate in this discussion.
Camila is a veterinarian, not a certified expert on supernatural biology and classification.
"Bright eyes, ears and tail like a wolf. They look like werewolf traits to me." Wednesday said, purposely poking the hive to see what comes out.
"Very many specimens of the supernatural world can shine their eyes to frighten or intimidate their prey." Luz replies, easily, as she is probably the second best expert on the room.
" How do you explain the tail and the ears ?" Wednesday asks, pointing to Bruce's polar wolf ears.
"Very annoying side effects." Bruce replies, with a grimace on his face, not appreciating being pointed with the finger like a circus freak.
"Incredibly positive side effects." Luz replies, with a big smile, having a completely different opinion.
Bruce shoots an angry look at Luz, letting her know he doesn't want to hear her opinion right now.
"I am a sorcerer who wants to learn every magical art there is, to succeed in my ambition, I am willing to do a lot.
One of the processes to teach me the art of a school of magic quite useful in a wartime environment, unfortunately resulted in the appearance of these." Bruce said, pointing to his polar wolf ears, moving them up and down.
"However, in some cases, my beastly traits pop up without my permission." Bruce said, his wolf ears and tail disappearing as if by magic as he looked in Eda's direction.
"Sorry, this time it's my fault. If you're too touchy with Bruce, you can cause these effects, especially if you stroke his head." Eda said, with an apologetic smile on her lips.
"If we're done discussing, we can continue this conversation." Weems said, drawing attention to her, as he should have done for several minutes.
" Looking at Luz's file. At first I thought she was an ordinary girl with slightly above average grades.
I was about to turn him down from Nevermore Academy." Weems declares, in a dark and serious tone, having to abide by the strict rules of his school.
Bruce remained calm and composed while everyone else freaked out.
Eda, Camila, Morticia and Gomez appear to have been hit in the face by a flying fish or something equally absurd.
The only one who reacted differently was Wednesday.
The dark girl almost smiled at Luz's bad news. Of course, without Luz around, her short school life will be easier in many ways.
"As you know, Nevermore Academy is the best school for the gifted youth of the supernatural community in North America.
We can't accept everyone, with rare extraordinary exceptions." Weems said, glancing quickly at Eda, one of Nevermore Academy's exceptional cases.
Before Mother Owl could get her claws out and become less of a witch and more of a Harpy.
Weems noticing that the nails are turning into raptor claws, decided to stop joking.
"Lucky for you, someone anonymously sent me documents regarding Luz's witch identity." Weems said, in a calm tone, opening his desk drawer and pulling out two files.
These files concern Luz's double life.
Luz Noceda is written on the first issue. This file represents the bad part of Luz's life, the ordinary problem student.
Clearly everything in the file precedes Luz's meeting with Bruce and Eda.
On the second issue it says Lucinda "Luz" Belnades. This booklet represents the good part of the life of Luz, the good and brilliant witch.
Naturally, all the content of the file takes place after meeting Bruce and Eda.
If anyone wonders why there are different names on both files.
The rather simple answer.
When Luz joined the Illuminated World by Moonlight, under Bruce's advice, Luz assumed an alias to avoid reprisals and death curses.
"According to the files, Luz Noceda is not qualified to be a member of Nevermore Academy. But if it's Lucinda "Luz" Belnades, that's a completely different matter." Weems said, opening the file on Luz's actions under the alias Lucinda Belnades.
"For a first-generation young witch, the Wizards' Association holds you in good esteem. You've succeeded and have impressed quite a few high-ranking individuals." Weems said, recounting little facts from Luz's file.
" You have no magical heritage, no material wealth, no political influence.
You did not actually contribute to the Association as a researcher and are considered a mere assistant who obtained the position out of pure sympathy." Weems said, in a neutral tone, reading the less beautiful facts in the file.
The Magician's association, especially the Clock Tower looks down on anyone other than at least a ten generation of practitioners in their family.
Luz being the first witch of her line is regarded as unimportant or unsuitable for the Clock Tower study halls.
What you lose with being a first generation witch, you make up for with sheer talent that seems present once a few decades.
Luz, you managed to earn the rank of Fez at your age, as a rising star of runes and glyphs !
Received the title of Card Captor and recognized as heir to Ancient Clow Reed.
All of that makes you a top-notch candidate for Nevermore Academy, not to mention the recommendations." Weems said, grinning as he pulled several immaculate-looking letters out of his drawer.
These documents come from two prominent members of the Clock Tower.
Master Biblia, the headmaster of the Royal Biblia Academy, currently Regent to the 13th Lord of the Clock Tower." Headmistress Weems's eye shifts in Bruce's direction.
"Kischur Zelretch Schweinorg, one of the founders of the Clock Tower and the Master of Second True Magic.
Lord El-Melloi II, a highly respected teacher within the Clock Tower, is the Lord of the Modern Magic Theory Department.
Each of these three men has sent a recommendation, signed in person, having nothing but good things to say about you.
These recommendations, along with your personal accomplishments and a parent who attended Nevermore Academy." Principal Weems pointed to Eda, for once on a positive note, which is quite rare.
" Nevermore Academy would be delighted to welcome Luz Noceda.
A young witch with so much potential deserves to be in this school." Weems declares, with a smile, turning the mood of the room upside down.
Wednesday returned to her neutral expression, not having the good fortune to escape the smiling and energetic girl.
Eda, Camila, Morticia and Gomez have dropped their worried faces, returning in good spirits, especially Eda withdrawing her claws.
Finally, Bruce was completely unaffected except for a critical eye towards Weems.
"What you did first, the fake bad news, followed by the real good news. It must be some kind of petty revenge against Eda's teenage antics." Bruce said, leaving a deep look at Eda.
If Bruce didn't have a perfect memory, he would have lost count of the great great great amount of trouble caused by people who have a grudge against his adoptive mother, Eda.
Mrs. Owl lived a rather wild youth, full of risks and not paying attention to the long-term consequences.
" Next time you want to take advantage of your position and favorable circumstances to take revenge for past wrongs.
You may not involve Camila and Luz, I care about their physical and emotional well-being. To the point of being able to react quite uncivilized." Bruce said, in a calm tone as his eye shines gold.
"The news that Luz may be rejected by Nevermore Academy could hurt Camila's fragile little heart, she's been through enough." Bruce continues, proceeding to criticize Principal Weems for her methods and the effects they can have.
For the more intelligent we understand that Bruce is promising retaliation if the case is repeated.
" In the future, for your own good, I advise you to do something simpler and more aimed at Eda.
For example, while talking to the subject about your passive aggressiveness, tell someone to puncture the gas tank or break down the engine of the car.
Getting stuck in the middle of nowhere and forcing a long walk to the nearest town seems like a more appropriate move." Bruce said, promising a meaner and more negligible method of revenge.
'It seems I'm not the only one capable of thinking for myself.' Thinks Wednesday, finding it refreshing to see Bruce take control of the discussion and portray Principal Weems in a negative light.
"I do not confirm or deny these claims." Weems replies, maintaining a professional expression.
The Principal of Nevermore Academy, pretended not to have been criticized or threatened by Bruce, having dealt with more problematic people
XXX
Meanwhile the four adults are delighted with Wednesday and Luz's entry into Nevermore Academy.
Bruce sensed something was wrong in Luz's little conversation.
'Sometimes it's hard to be the smartest in the family.' Bruce thinks, looking at the floor in a depressed way.
The inky-haired detective feels he's the only person who can see in a world of the blind.
'I'm the only one who sees the ramifications behind Luz's recommendations.' Thinks Bruce, sure the Addams Family can't be responsible for Bruce's recommendations.
The Addams Family is a Clan of outcasts who rarely mingle with the business of the Wizards' Association.
Therefore Morticia the person who mainly contributed to the inscription of the children of Eda, cannot
learn about Luz's double life and her actions inside the Clock Tower.
This begs an important rather innocuous question: Who requested the letters of recommendation for Luz?
'Who made this move is a mystery to be solved for the future. The damage has already been done.' Bruce thinks, focusing on the consequences of sending these recommendations.
'Three deeds of similar value, written and signed by the elite, cannot go unnoticed.
Clocktower and the rest of the Wizarding Association must have figured out that Luz wants to attend Nevermore Academy.
Even an idiot can understand, if Luz is in this school, I will be there too.
The reputation of being an inseparable couple is sometimes a weakness.' Think Bruce, with an analytical mind, knowing full well how the upper floors of the Clock Tower work and how they will react to this occasion.
' Whoever wants an alliance or agreement with me will send their heir to Nevermore Academy to meet me directly. I can bet my good eye that there are already girls in the school with orders to make friends with me or woo me.' Bruce thinks, reflecting on the possible actions of ambitious people in certain of his influence / research / position.
'Those who are intelligent will stay away from school, taking advantage of my stay at Nevermore Academy to work in peace, without fear of my interference.' Thinks Bruce, knowing plenty of people who will rest easy knowing that he will be spending most of his time at Nevermore Academy.
'Anyone who wishes me dead or out of action will use my fixed and known location to attempt to assassinate me.' Bruce thinks, realizing that one way or another, things will turn out to be more complicated than expected.
[More players make the game more interesting, and victory becomes sweeter.] Korrigan said, seeming quite intrigued by the impending challenge lurking within the walls of Nevermore Academy.

"We've saved the best candidate for last." Declares Weems, with a big smile, he obviously wants to put himself in Bruce's good side.
Principal Weems made Luz's file disappear, pulling from her desk ... a notebook with Bruce's name and last year's photograph on it.
We understand that the photograph is old, because Bruce in the photo has all of his two eyes.
" Can we skip all this circus and do something more productive. For example, show us the Orphéus dormitory ?" Bruce asks, not wanting to waste half an hour hearing from Weems' mouth a mix of accounts of his actions and needless praise of him.
"Someone got bored." Eda whispers, interpreting Bruce's change of mood as pure boredom.
"You accepted earlier, Wednesday, a troubled girl, with sociopathic tendencies." Bruce said, glancing at the dark girl.
" Then you accepted, Luz, a girl of humble origins, with enormous magical potential." Bruce continues, moving his gaze towards his best friend.
"It means the school, they can't refuse my membership, after all I'm a king of a shadow empire." Bruce finishes his statement, placing a hand on his chest, as if he's the most important person in the room.
"A king? You have a good opinion of yourself." Wednesday said, finding Bruce's choice of words interesting.
"That's the best word that can describe my position in and out of the Clock Tower." Bruce said, casually, starting the arms, not wanting to talk about his legacy.
"Actually you are considered an ice prince by many people, especially girls." Luz said, having first-hand heard of Bruce's fame through teenage witch circles.
' I think it would be best for everyone to end this talk as soon as possible.
If Bruce suddenly refuses to attend my school, there will be a lot of problems.
Individuals who have donated funds for the construction of the new dormitories will be able to disrupt the school's renovation and expansion plans.' Thinks Principal Weems, slightly worried on the inside while on the outside she keeps her smile.
In reality the new influx of students are composed of Magus and Witches related to the Association of Wizards or other organizations of the Moonlit Enlightened World.
Somehow, the news that Bruce Bahamut Belmont, the last member and heir of the House of Morgan, will be attending Nevermore Academy has spread throughout the supernatural community.
Making Nevermore Academy the most researched school of the year, receiving attention and funding from the most influential men and women of the moonlit world.
"Bruce, you're right, it's getting late and we have a schedule to meet. All three of you are accepted to Nevermore Academy." Weems said, rising from his chair as he put the notebook dedicated to Bruce back in the drawer.
Wednesday noticing Director Weems' strange behavior.
The gloomy girl decides to keep the location of the files in mind, she might need it later.
"We should go and introduce you to the Orphéus dormitory and your roommates." Weems said, motioning the two wacky families to follow her.
