The world is unfair. The seventeen-year-old Lina Avero knew that quite well. Her father abandoned her along with her mother and brother which left the family of three in a rough situation as Lina's mother Maria had to work two separate jobs to keep the house and give Lina and her litter brother Romeo well fed and clothed.

Lina often looked after her brother while Maria was away, and she knew all the emergency numbers and what to do in situations like fire or if Romeo was choking on food or anything else. However, this case was something that made Lina freeze in her footsteps.

Now it is a Saturday morning as Maria was able to stay home with her children which was something that Lina and Romeo enjoyed but the part they didn't enjoy was when a crazed man barged into the house and held the family at gunpoint. After about five minutes of the family being held hostage in the living room, they heard the police sirens in front of the house as Lina and Maria recognized this man from the news as this man had escaped prison a short will ago and was on a most wanted list for his gruesome crimes.

Soon enough during this situation the man with the Glock 9 in his right hand had gotten a phone call so he used his left hand to reach into his pocket and pull out his cell phone as the call seemed to make him more agitated.

"I don't give a fuck about what you think you can do to me! I'm done with you fuckers and your cult!" The man said before he ended the call and threw his phone into the wall with enough force to break his phone and then he looked at the family.

"I'm not about to go to jail. Get up brat." The man said to Lina.

"No please. Take me instead." Maria said before the man pointed his gun towards her.

"Shut the fuck up or I'll shoot your kid!" The man shouted as he pointed his gun at the six-year-old Romeo.

"It's okay mom. Just keep Romeo safe." Lina said as she walked towards the man with equal parts fear and courage as she gathered the strength to protect her brother but she was also terrified that her life was about to end as the man roughly grabbed Lina around the throat with his free arm as he put the gun barrel on her head which made her heart pound even harder before they walked out of the front door and saw the various police aiming guns at the house as they didn't even leave the porch before the man screamed at the cops.

"I'm taking this girl hostage and they aren't going anywhere until I get what I want!" The man screamed before the police chief spoke into a handheld megaphone.

"What is it that you want?" The chief asked.

"I want a care and a shit load of cash! And I don't want anyone following me after I leave!" The man screamed before he backed up into the house with Lina still in his grasp as he kicked the door shut.

"You should know that things aren't going to end well for you." Lina said as she summoned up her courage once more to antagonize the man holding her and her family hostage.

"Shut up." The man snarled as he tightened his grip around her throat with his arm.

"I'm just saying that the police aren't going to just let you walk out of here even if you just let us go. This is just going to get you into more trouble and you're just showing the cops that your crazy and dangerous." Lina said before the man let her go and in one quick moment, he hit her in the side of the head with the butt of his gun as hard as he could.

Somehow the hit was beyond normal strength as it split the skin of her forehead and caused blood to quickly run down her face as she quickly felt like she was about to pass out as she hit the floor and felt how heavy her eyes felt as the voice of her mother's cries rang in her ears.

"I…Don't…Want…To die." Lina said weakly and in a low voice that didn't reach anyone except her and as she was about to close her eyes, she heard a new voice ring in her head.

"If you don't want to die than live on my child. Live on as my champion and see the world through the eyes of Gaia.

Mother of the Earth and its protector."

The voice that spoke to Lina sounded angelic, calm and even motherly. Almost as if her own mother had somehow spoken to her inside her mind and all of a sudden, a new rush of energy coursed through her as Lina saw physical images in front of her that took the form of videogame style screens that are a green tinted color.

Like the screens from Fallout 3 and New Vegas.

"Lina saw the screens in front of her vision as her left eye was being blinded by her own blood while she heard a high pitch whine and, in her body, felt like it was moving through water, and she honestly felt like she was about to throw up.

You have been afflicted with the [Minor Concussion] and [Minor Bleeding].

"Now that should teach you to watch your fucking mouth." The man growled as Lina tried to focus as her vision had changed and now, she could make out images above the man's head.

Gregory Tulson, Level: 26

Cult of Mars (Rogue)

'What the hell?' Lina asked herself in confusion as she looked on before seeing names and numbers above the heads of her mother and brother.

"Now just stay there and wait to be useful." Gregory said before they all heard a loud popping sound and just like that the Avero family saw that Gregory had a new bloody hole in his chest as he soon fell to the ground as Lina looked over and saw that a bullet had come in through the house window and she saw that Gregory was still alive and moving as the police soon barged in and apprehended him.

After that ordeal was finished Lina was taken away to the hospital to get looked over and soon enough, she was diagnosed with a minor concussion and had her head bandaged up and given some pain killers for the headaches before she was sent home and told that getting some bedrest for a few days will be the best thing for her.

Saturday 11:30 A.M

It had been a whole week since Lina had left the hospital and for some odd reason after a few nights of rest and taking the meds she felt like she was back up to one hundred percent.

Right now, she was in bed and in the house alone since Romeo is at her aunt's home for a few days and Maria is out at right and frankly Lina just didn't know what to do. So, she sat up in her bed and looked around her room as she thought about booting up her desktop but playing her games on the computer seemed boring to her now.

"I need to do something. Like training or something so I can beat up the next guy who thinks they can barge into my family's home and do some stupid shit like hold us hostage." Lina said to herself since she didn't want to feel useless ever again but as soon as she had said that she saw a new screen appear in front of her eyes.

Quest Alert!

Name: Grinding

Objective 1: Follow your mini-map instructions to the nearest low-level dungeon!

Objective 2: Clear the low-level dungeon!

Rewards: 3000 EXP, dungeon loot and increased Affection with Gaia!

Do you accept this quest? Y/N?

"You can't be serious." Lina said with a low groan as she looked at the literal quest that had just appeared in front of her eyes and the rational side of her was screaming to deny this quest and pretend that it didn't show up but a different side of her wanted to see just where this quest was going to take her and to her shame her curiosity got the better of her and she accepted the quest.

After accepting the quest, she saw a new mini map appear in the lower right side of her view and had a direction icon telling her where to go.

"I guess I'm going to do this now." Lina said before she got out of bed and first went into the bathroom where she cleaned herself up a bit before she got dressed in a blue T-shirt with her favorite yellow jacket with black horizontal strikes as she also put on jean shorts with black sneakers on her feet as she looked herself over in the mirror.

She still has tanned skin with a average frame, brown eyes with black curly hair reaching her chin and she had a small scar on the side of her head due to that wound the crazy guy gave her when he pistol whipped her but the strangest thing was what she saw floating above her own head in the mirror.

Lina Avero, Level: 3

Gamer/Champion of Gaia

"Gamer huh." Lina said in a blank tone of voice before her eyes once again looked at her newly generated mini map as she just took a deep breath before grabbing the keys to her home and her wallet as she locked up the house and started walking towards her destination.

After a decently long walk Lina came up to the abandoned arcade that some kids from Midtown High would go to if they wanted to get high or ditch school or something.

"This is a dungeon?" Lina asked with disbelief as she went around back and entered through the broken door and looked around a bit but found nothing until she mentally slapped herself for not looking at her map as it also showed the interior of the building and by looking at the map, she discovered something strange.

"Is this a real fake wall? Like in the movies and comics?" Lina asked in mild shock as her map was showing a greyed-out area behind the wall and frankly Lina just did what the characters in movies and comics do as she just felt the wall all over with her hands as she expected to find the one section of the wall that would activate the door to the corridor behind the door.

"Bingo." Lina said as she touched the right spot and saw the wall split horizontally down the middle and revealed a hallway that looked strange compared to the rest of the building. Now the arcade looked like any other arcade with slightly tacky walls and lights on the ceiling, but this hallway looked to be made from smooth stone and on the walls were lit candles.

"Okay this is getting pretty creepy." Lina said before she took another deep breath before walking into the hall and heard the wall close shut behind her making her groan as she walked through the hall until she soon came up to a small room that broke off into two separate directions.

A wooden door to the left and a wooden door to the right and against the north wall is a small storage container that was closed with metal latches but thankfully it didn't seem to be padlocked or have a combination code lock or anything so after slowly going to the container Lina opened it and took what was inside of it.

Loot: 1x Iron Short Sword

"Seriously?" Lina asked with clear confusion in her voice as she held the short sword in her right hand as it had a bit of heft to it, but it wasn't overly heavy or anything. However, what concerned Lina was the fact that the storage container had a sword in it at all and seemingly no other items inside. "I guess it's time for me to choose where I should go." Lina said to herself as she needed to pick the left or the right door and ultimately, she decided to go to the left door where she saw another hallway but this one had a few turns and doorways but the shocking thing she saw was the being standing in the hallway and looking at her after she had walked into the hallway.

This being is humanoid in shape, but its skin is reptilian and is a dark green color, it has the head of a reptile, and it appears to have four bright red eyes, it is wearing shreds of clothing and it seems to have sharp looking nails and a long tail coming from its lower back as the tail hit the floor.

Draconic Abomination, Level: 8

Slave Worker

The abomination of nature seemed to let out some kind of shriek as it charged at Lina and despite the level of confusion and shock she felt she raised her sword and slashed at the monster as the sword slash was wild and reckless but the monster appeared to be lacking proper brain power and had gotten slashed across its chest which made it recoil in pain as it backed up while holding its chest and Lina didn't hesitate as she rushed the monster and thrust her sword into its face.

Lina knew it wasn't human and that it would tear her limb from limb but even with that knowledge she still didn't know how to feel about what she had just done as she just received some experience from killing the beast and pulled her sword out of its skull as she felt a bit sick at the site before the skill Gamers Mind activated and lessened the negative impact of those emotions.

"What the hell is this thing?" Lina asked as she looked over the thing closely before a new message caught her attention.

New Skill Alert!

"That's about right." Lina said to herself before she closed the window and headed into the first and nearest room in this corridor where she found two more of the abominations before putting them down with her sword while getting away with some minor scratches.

However, that did give Lina valuable information and that information was that despite there appearance these monsters didn't seem that much stronger than a normal person and they didn't really know what they were doing and just tried scratching or trying to bite her like rabid animals.

"Nothing important is here." Lina said as she started moving from room to room and clearing out the place as she did receive some loot, levels and even some armor from the room and the draconic abominations as some of the monsters actually had weapons on them but not the kind of weapons you would expect.

You have levelled up! You are now Level 9!

Loot: 7x Iron Pipe, 2x Military Grade Flashlight, 3x Switch Blade, 1x Lesser Leather Chest Piece, 1x Random Skill Book, 1x Key to Boss Room!

"Lina dismissed the messages in front of her as she had come back to the room where she first entered this dungeon and instead of going left, she went right and came into a long hallway lit with candles and at the end of it is a large door that is locked up with a large lock under the door knob.

"I have a minute before I go into the boss room so I guess I should learn that skill I had got." Lina said as the skill book dropped randomly from another draconic abomination she had killed and after discovering she had an inventory; she kept the back safe within the pocket space until now as she took the book out of her inventory and held it in her hands.

The book is decently thick and is a solid brown color with a angelic looking woman on the cover.

Would you like to analyze this skill book? Y/N?

"Yes." Lina said as the skill book glowed a bright yellow color before a new screen appeared in front of her.

Would you like to learn the 'Bronze Skin' spell? Y/N?

"Sure." Lina said lazily before she hit the yes button and saw the book evaporate in the form of golden flower pedals as the information of the spell was basically just downloaded into her head.

"So, I've got a defensive spell." Lina said before she glanced at her sword as she knew the durability of the blade must be pretty low by now since she saw durability stats on all items in her inventory and knew that the sword would have a durability stat as well. "I've basically got to fight a boss now." Lina said before she took a deep breath before she took out the boss room key and unlocked the door as she walked into the room and saw that the room is rather large and spacious and all over the place are training dummies made from wood.

At the end of the room is another locked door and there is blood splatter on the ground like in the rest of the dungeon but what shocked Lina was the fact that she saw human corpses on the ground that looked like they were eaten by wild animals in a frenzy.

"Well, this is interesting." A voice said as the locked door had opened and coming out of the room was another draconic being but unlike the previous batch this one was different.

The first difference is that he actually spoke and the second difference is the fact that he is wearing armor as he seems to be wearing some protective clothing along with a crimson cape on his back and over his head is a helmet that covers the upper half of his head which covers everything above his nose and has two eye holes for him and he is carrying a short sword of his own that seemed to be a finer design and on his sword was a scabbard for the sword that was a black leather color.

"What is?" Lina asked as she narrowed her eyes at the monster in front of her.

"The fact that my meal has come to me instead of me having to hunt you down." The monster said before Lina noticed the information floating above the monster's head.

Experiment 22.V1/Blaze-Fang, Level: 11

Rookie Member of the 10 Clans

"I don't suppose there is any chance that I can talk you out of this." Lina said as this guy didn't seem do difficult, but she didn't underestimate him either since he could have access to magic or something like that.

"Sorry but I'm not in a position to play with my food." The monster known as Blaze-Fang said before he readied his sword and charged at Lina who readied her own sword and blocked the attack, but she quickly backed away and was put on the defensive when she realized that her sword started to vibrate and give off a smoke like smell when it came into contact with Blaze's sword.

Lina focused on using her Bronze Skin spell and discovered that she activated it without having to call out the skills name which was good, and she also discovered that the spell effect also spread to her sword and now her sword would last a bit longer in this fight.

"Not bad for a human but your still out matched." Blaze said tauntingly before he gave Lina a sidekick which sent her sidestepping a bit before falling to the ground and rolling away to avoid being stabbed as Blaze tried to stab her when she landed on the ground.

"You're going to have to work for your meal asshole." Lina cursed as she wasn't about to go down without a fight as she also tried to think fast about what she could do as Blaze clearly has the strength advantage and his armor would protect him from damage, but she somehow had to pull off a win.

"Good. I like it when my prey puts up a fight." Blaze said as he charged at her again, but this time Lina focused on playing to her strengths of speed and cunning as she ducked under Blaze's sword slash and with her own sword, she slashed at the gap between the armor covering his chest and legs as the cut went pretty deep and blood started leaking from the wound at a fast paste.

"Look at that. This prey is giving you a stomachache." Lina said with a cocky smile as Blaze growled in pain.

"I am Blaze-Fang of the Fang tribe. I won't be killed by some damn human." Blaze said in clear anger as he kept trying to strike at Lina with more anger behind his attacks which made them sloppier and more predictable even if Lina had to work around that strange blade.

She parried and evaded the strikes despite a lucky few hitting her protective chest piece before she spotted her opening as Blaze tried to cut off Lina's head she not only ducked under the blow but she aimed her next sword swing for Blaze's hand and cut it off at the wrist which not only made him drop his sword but he also backed away as blood came rushing out of the wound before he tripped over his own tail and was on the ground as Lina picked up the sword in her left hand and now had two swords she can use.

"You don't fight with honor. Even for a human you are trash." Blaze said in anger before Lina swung both swords and cut off Blaze's head.

"What good is honor if it gets me killed?" Lina asked the corpse without expecting an answer and sure enough a new series of windows appeared in front of her.

[Amulet of Obscurity]

"Okay that is a lot and out of these three prizes I have to say that I'm kind of drawn to the amulet." Lina said as she clicked on the amulet to get a better view of what it could do.

-Item-

Name: Amulet of Obscurity

Rank: Mystic

Description: This magical amulet in the shape of a black prism on a silver chain is a mystical artefact designed by magic casters who wish to remain anonymous to others as this amulet alters the wearers voice to avoid recognition from others.

Durability: 200/200

"This would help. But I also need something to hide my face. The last thing I need is to miss one monster and have it found me at school or something." Lina said as she picked the amulet and saw it appear around her neck.

She also took a look at both the swords in her hands that were stained with blood.

"I can put this in my inventory, but I seriously need to know what this thing does." Lina said as she started at the sword that just killed its previous owner before a new skill appeared in front of her.

[Observe, Active Level: 1

Tier: 1

This is a low-level scrying spell used to obtain knowledge on any object you look at.

Cost: 2 MP]

-Item-

Name: Iron Eater

Rank: Mystic

Description: This sword was forged by an imprisoned mage who has a talent for blacksmithing and the sword is designed to corrode and destroy any item made with iron or steel.

Durability: 124/125

"Okay you were wasted on that monster." Lina said before placing both swords in her inventory as she headed into the final room of this dungeon and saw that it wasn't locked as she went into the room and saw that it was some kind of meeting room as there is a large circular table with ten empty chairs and on the table is all sorts of papers and notes talking about the monsters she had just killed as well as information regarding who created the monsters in the first place and just like that Lina took all the notes, files and notebooks into her inventory before seeing another false wall and after getting the wall to split open she saw that the false wall was hiding a elevator which she got into and saw that it only had buttons going up and down.

So, she took the elevator up and found herself in the managers office of the abandoned arcade before placing her protective vest in her inventory as well as she left the arcade and quickly made her way home as she saw that quite a bit of time had gotten away from her.

She didn't care about that though and instead she simply enjoyed a nice hot shower before staying in her room for the rest of the day with a lot on her mind as she also saw yet another series of game messages.

Objective 2: Discover who is pulling these fake dragon's strings!

Objective 3: Put a stop to the real threat to the city!

Rewards: 1200 EXP, Increased Affection with Gaia, Increases Affection with various factions!

Do you accept this quest? Y/N?

"Of course, I'm going to accept this quest." Lina said as this wasn't even a real choice for her. She saw dangerous monsters today and she wasn't going to let them attack the city if she had anything to say about it.

"Still, I have a lot more questions than answers." Lina said as her newfound powers seemed to know more about this situation then she did and as a result she took the time to take out all the notes she had gathered from her little dungeon raid and began studying them as best she could.

From what Lina could gather. A cult that worships the god Ares from Greek myth has created these draconic beings as foot soldiers in order to create a makeshift army to take over New York as a tribute to Ares himself and ask him to bless the cult with the power to rule the world.

"A dangerous line of thinking that is going to get a lot of people killed." Lina said as she wanted to say this cult was insane but she wasn't exactly in a position to comment on things since she is begging to question her own sanity as she quickly got on her computer and started looking up things about Greek mythologies and discovered the Titan Gaia who she is now somehow connected to and that made her realize that the cult could very well be getting influenced by the god of war or they could be misguided in how they worship him but either way this just became a lot more dangerous than Lina had thought.

"This cult needs to be stopped and it looks like I'm the one that needs to stop it." Lina said as she also researched religions in the New York area and found out that the cult has a large public face and even members of the community like cops and firemen are a part of it and that meant that getting people to believe her about this cult would prove to be difficult.

"I need to be smart about this and I certainly need to improve my body and stuff a bit." Lina said before she just rested for the rest of the night from exhaustion due to the [Exhausted I] debuff she had been given after leaving the dungeon.

Monday 9:20 A.M, March 2022

Currently in homeroom in Midtown High is Lina as she has her face buried in her books as she is looking around at her fellow students in class as she could barely pay attention in class due to what was on her mind about a cult aiming to take over the city.

However, she quickly put her attention back in the class when she noticed a ding in her ear as she noticed something appear in front of her eyes after she had just finished studying a rather difficult subject the class was going over.

INT has increased by 3!

"Seriously?" Lina asked in a whispered tone of voice before a wild idea came into her mind as she held up her math book in front of her face before she whispered again. "Status Screen."

-Status Screen-

Dexterity: 11

Charisma: 10

"I have an actual status screen?" Lina asked herself in disbelief as these new powers are constantly surprising her, but she focused back up to the fact that even though she wants to do something she isn't in any position to do anything.

Despite her dungeon crawling she is still low level compared to the athletes of school and her stats don't even come close and on her mini map she took a walk the other day to the next closet dungeon that belonged to these dragon-like beings and saw that it is pretty high level and that she seriously needs to improve her stats before making an attempt to clear that dungeon.

Unlike in a videogame Lina has only one life and she sure as hell isn't going to loss it just by doing something stupid…Granted she can be a cheeky bitch, but she at least wants to be able to back up her words with actions.

A strong case would be the situation that gave her a scar on her head when that cult outcast broke into her home and her cheeky tongue almost got her killed.

"Lina, are you paying attention?" The teacher asked and snapped Lina out of her thoughts.

"Yeah. Sorry I just zoned out for a bit." Lina said as a few students started giggling and gossiping.

"Well since you zoned out now then you can zone out after school when you're in detention." The teacher said with his usual sour attitude as Lina just looked down at her desk with a sad groan as the class and day went on as Lina did have to stay after school before eventually being let out of detention before she headed home as she quickly went on her computer and started looking up exercise routines and things she could do at home.

She was going to get stronger and protect her home and her family no matter what

X

Nova Roma

"So, this is the new Rome." A man said as he wandered around the city as this man is large at seven feet tall with a build that put most muscle builders to shame as he has bronzed skin with curly brown hair on his head as he is wearing a green tunic and brown trousers along with leather boots and strapped to his back is a massive mace made from Adamantium and is strong enough to shred a military tank like butter when it is placed in the right hands.

This man of power is none other than the God of strength Hercules who has descended from Mount Olympus in search of information and of the god Ares.

At Mount Olympus the god's had a rather heated debate on the state of the world and what role they should play in it and Ares didn't seem pleased with what was said and Hercules being the kindhearted man that he was. He wanted to make sure that Ares was alright and that he didn't do anything foolish. Now Ares might be the god of war, but he is also a god of courage and Hercules respected him for showing bravery in the face of doubt so the two bonded or at least gained a mutual respect.

"I wonder what Ares is thinking. Running off like he did." Hercules said to himself with a heavy sigh as he wandered around and more or less ignored all the eyes on him as he wasn't trying to be rude, but it was more like he had long gotten used to being the main attraction when he was around 'mortal' people.

"What are you doing here Olympian?" A voice said to Hercules as the world around him suddenly became shrouded in shadows as a being appeared in front of him as she is a pale skinned woman wearing dark leather clothes.

"I'm here in search of my brother witch but seeing you here instead of him makes me wonder if you knew that he even came here in the first place." Hercules said as he looked around trying to figure out where he was while also trying to avoid coming to violence with this woman.

The gods of Olympus watched over several powerful beings on Earth and this woman. Selene Gallio is one such being capable of killing them if they didn't partake in the immortality gaining Olympian Ambrosia which is something that Hercules didn't take before coming to Earth as he was only permitted to come here on the condition that he would give up his immortality and become a mortal once again.

However, that suited Hercules because he found immortality to be something like a prison and he enjoyed having the thrills and battles that only a mortal life could offer.

"Your brother came here some time ago and took some citizens with him. He didn't have my permission and as you can see, he managed to escape after the conflict." Selene said as Hercules had noticed the destruction around the city and how sad and hurt the people looked.

"Ares attacked the city and kidnapped some of its inhabitants?" Hercules asked with a frown.

"Yes, and I intend on making him suffer for this crime. So, if you are here to stop me or rescue your brother than you are my enemy and you will be dealt with." Selene said coldly as the shadows around her started to take the physical form of spears.

"I didn't come here to fight you. I just came here to find out what is going on with Ares and since you have explained things that means I can be on my way to find him." Hercules said as Selene gave him a deadly look and if looks could kill then Hercules would already be dead.

"Ares will die. Leave my city now or prepare to die." Selene said before she vanished into the shadows as the darkness surrounding them vanished and Hercules found himself standing in the city of Nova Roma once again.

"Damn it Ares. What have you done." Hercules cursed as he started making his way out of the city and with his keen senses, he was able to detect his fellow gods whereabouts since the Olympians could sense one another but it was the location that gave Hercules pause.

"Why are you there Ares?" Hercules asked as he began heading towards New York as the trip would be rather long and dangerous, but Hercules was never known to shy away from a challenge.

END

A/N: Okay I am working on a Marvel Story and I am changing up the formula for a gamer story since most gamer stories honestly come off as the same thing over and over again and I wanted to do something different.

Real stakes and challenges as well as drama and what not. Anyway, the main reason I did this and designed Lina the way she is. Is because I was inspired by Kevin Conroy and Jason David Frank who are childhood inspirations for me and both are sadly gone from this world, but they leave behind a legacy of love, hard work and the inspiration to do what makes you happy no matter what.

Now there isn't much left to be said other than please, fav, follow and review because it means a lot.
