A Peek at a Hero's Beginnings!

Meanwhile in Japan, our story's main protagonist was still sleeping as it was still relatively early. Not yet the time for anyone to be waking up just yet, let alone children. The person in question is a teenage boy who looks to be about fourteen years old with pale skin, green hair with black undertones that's spiky while also being curly, and four freckles that form a diamond pattern on each side of his face. He's about average height for a boy his age at 166cm, and he's currently in a very restless sleep. This boy is named Izuku Midoriya, and he is clearly in the middle of having a terrible nightmare. As proven by how he's violently tossing and turning, a cold sweat pouring off of him, eyes scrunched up tight, and whimpering as he softly utters words like "Don't" and "Stop hurting them, Kacchan!". These certainly would be written off as having a nightmare in most cases.

But in truth, he's reliving a memory.

A memory of pain, tragedy, and long festering anger. Let's take a peek at what his subconscious is showing the lad, shall we?

***Izuku's Dream…***

We find a much younger Izuku Midoriya in tears as he stands between three boys, and another boy who was on his knees and clearly in pain. All of them appear to be around four years old, five years, maximum, and they were currently at a school playground.

"Why are you being so mean, Kacchan? Can't you see he's hurt? If you don't leave him alone, uh, I'll stop you myself!" exclaimed four-year-old Izuku.

But the three boys just sneered menacingly at the poor little broccoli boy. Each one was brandishing their quirks with their leader, a boy with red eyes and spiky blonde hair, popping tiny explosions in his palms as he looked at Izuku with malevolence.

"You wanna be a hero?" he asked, producing an explosion in his palm. "You don't stand a chance without a quirk, Deku!"

Little Izuku's eyes widen in fear as the three boys rushed in with their quirks, and then…

The details of what happened were hazy, but one thing he remembers clear as day is that he was in unimaginable pain. The ordeal was over quickly, and little Izuku lay there in a puddle of water as rain poured down, defeated and hurt. Such is the life of one who is quirkless in a world of superpowers.

***Real World…***

Izuku was thankfully startled awake as his alarm clock started beeping loudly. He bolted upright as his body was soaked in a cold sweat brought on by reliving that painful memory. A memory that taught him a lesson he won't ever forget.

All men are not created equal.

He learned that some people are born with more power than others.

Izuku sighed in relief as he realized that it was over now. But soon his depression set in as he knew that he would have to live through his own personal hell that comes with not having a quirk. Most of the population who are quirkless are very old, having lived during the time that Quirks were a very rare thing amongst humanity, but the statistics quickly changed as more and more quirk users began being born with each generation. Soon, those with quirks outnumbered those without. And to be born without a quirk was a very, very rare occurrence in and of itself. And Izuku was unlucky enough to be born without one.

Looking at his alarm to switch it off, he saw that it had gone off a whole hour earlier than he usually got up, which was fine by him in this case. The less he has to live through those memories-turned-nightmares, the better. No sense in going back to bed now that he was already wide awake. That's always been an issue for him; once he wakes up from deep sleep, he can't go back to sleep so easily. But this was probably for the best, due to his recurring nightmares.

He quickly got up and gathered his things to take a shower, moving as quietly as possible so he wouldn't wake his mother. She already has enough to worry about without his nightmares added to that list. He knows that his mother cares deeply about him, and he's grateful for that, but he also knows that the stresses of a single mother raising a quirkless child have taken their toll on her.

Izuku stopped to look in the bathroom mirror once he removed his shirt. He could see the signs of the abuse that he's suffered, mainly from Katsuki. Scars that littered a vast majority of his body. There was barely an ounce of skin that was unmarked by the quirks of others. He had straight scars across his upper arms that he got from this one student at his school who had a knife quirk, but a vast majority of them were caused by burns and appeared like the outlines of hands. These were caused by Katsuki, who used his explosion quirk on Izuku multiple times to, and I quote, 'put the quirkless Deku in his place!'. Izuku traced his fingertips along each scar as he grew sadder at how far his former friend had fallen.

He's become brash, arrogant, entitled, and violent with an ego that's inflated to the point that he's basically a second coming of the flame hero, Endeavor, if not another villain in the making. He's been praised for having the perfect quirk for a hero ever since it first manifested when they were four, and nobody has really done anything to try and reign him in. Izuku shook his head. He couldn't allow himself to fall prey to his own negativity.

After about ten minutes, Izuku had finished his shower and changed into his school uniform before moving back to his room to pack up his supplies. Bad dream or not, he still had school today. And he wanted to make sure he had grades worthy of becoming a hero.

But we'll learn more about that later.

***To Be Continued…***

Ending A/N: Another short chapter, I know, but I've been really struggling with deciding what I wanted to do for Izuku and Ange's quirks. But now that I've figured that out, I think that I can take this story in the direction that I want to. Until next time, please be sure to leave a review, and I will see you all in my next update!
