Malefor's eyes scanned everything around him: the battlefield, the remnants of his armies, several of the Warfang forces, the rest of the cities still exhausted from the war and, to his delight, Spyro, Cynder, Nina, three of the guardians and the young dragons.
"Spyro… Cynder… Nina…" Malefor smirked, "And the others… it's good to see you all again…"
"Malefor…" Cynder growled.
"Cynder, be careful..." Spyro warned, "I'm angry too, but we can't just attack wildly."
Malefor roared and a mighty fury of fire erupted and ripped through everything around him (friends and enemies). Fortunately, Thorr managed to protect them all with a mega earth shield, but it was left black by the carbon marks left by the attack.
"That...was close..." he muttered tiredly.
And he wasn't the only one: the battles against the Dark Ones had left them on the brink of exhaustion. That was Malefor's plan. Utilize the Dark Ones to collect all five types of mana and use them as receptacles for darkness. Even if they were defeated, they would have left the dragons quite tired from their fights.
"I see that you still have energy to continue…" said Malefor.
Instantly, he released a torrential rain of ice floes. Spyro tried to counterattack.
"Fire explosion!"
The fire collided with the ice and they neutralized each other. Given the opportunity, Cynder and Nina moved to Malefor's side.
"Freezing Storm!"
Unnoticed, Edel crippled and froze Malefor's left wing to prevent him from escaping. While Thorr, stomping on the earth, made it retain Malefor's paws.
"Shadow Dragon!"
"Lightning Fang!"
Cynder and Nina attacked from the right side while Ray, Flint and Rayla attacked from behind. All attacks hit their mark. However, a few seconds after the smoke cleared, a sphere of dark Ether surrounded Malefor: an energy field.
"Very clever…" Malefor sneered, "But all the battles you've had I've watched closely as my body restored… try some of this…"
Malefor concentrated a large amount of dark mana into a small sphere that he held in his left claw. Then, he raised and it rose while he shouted:
"Dark Roar!"
The small sphere exploded and created a ring in the air. Faster than imagined, an unbearable sound wave filled the battlefield. The dragons, hearing this, cried out in pain: not only their ears, but also their bones and muscles trembled with pain. Then the worst came: a huge dark dragon-shaped shadow descended from where the sound came from and impacted on the heroes.
After the attack, Spyro felt as if his entire body had been pummeled. Around him, all of his friends were also moaning in pain. However, the purple dragon was not willing to give up, so using his willpower, he stood up.
"You haven't changed at all, Spyro..." Malefor told him, "Always wanting to be the legend that changed our species"
"It's not about being a legend or not" Spyro replied emanating mana, "It's about doing the right thing: I won't let you destroy the world..."
"That's right..." Cynder said, also getting up, "You've already caused a lot of damage to all the inhabitants of the world, I don't want anyone to fall back into the same darkness to which you condemned me..."
"You too, Cynder…" Malefor said with an angry face and also emanating darkness mana, "Okay… I'll destroy you all!"
Malefor roared and mana from him filled all space, increasing terrifyingly. It was like being in a snowstorm, except that it was all dark. Before Spyro could power him up again, Malefor had teleported in front of him and dealt two blows with his claws and another with his tail.
"Spyro!" Cynder yelled.
However, she couldn't keep screaming, as she was Malefor's next target. The first blow she managed to dodge, but the other was faster than the sight of him. And Malefor had not finished:
"Necro chains!"
Two skulls appeared at his sides and spat out dark chains. Cynder was trapped, feeling how the chains painfully squeezed each one of her scales.
"That's better…"
"Icy Dragon!"
Edel had also gotten up and attacked Malefor while he had his guard down, but the Dark Master parried the attack with both claws and then proceeded to counterattack:
"Evil Necros Star!"
From between his jaws, a bloody dark glow appeared and took the shape of a four-pointed star which he then shot out swiftly towards the dragon.
"Wall of flames!"
Jhonny appeared and formed a whirlwind of fire to defend Edel. However, the attack was extremely powerful and the guardian did not have much time to endure.
"Blazing Dragon!"
From the air, Drago attacked. Malefor noticed this and covered himself with his wings just in time. The attack barely managed to move it from his position, but it didn't do much damage. However, that had stopped the first attack, so his parents were safe.
"Johnny! Drago!" they were greeted by Edel, "Are you alright?"
"There were a lot of soldiers on their way here…" Jhonny replied, "But it's better to ask: are you okay?"
"A little..." Cynder said helping Spyro up (apparently, the existence of the chains depended on Malefor's concentration on them), "We're being beaten... it's Malefor..."
"Dark Roar!"
Again, the combination of sound and explosions rained down on them, sweeping them all away in one movement. This time, Nina was getting up to continue fighting, next to her, Drago, Aurora, Ash, Rayla and Flint accompanied her.
"If that's what you want, very well... Dark Roar!"
Once again, the attack fell on the young dragons, but this time, Sam protected the companions from him.
"Astral Barrier!"
An energy field shielded the young dragons from the final impact of that blow. However, the first part of the attack, the noise, had affected him. For the first time, Malefor paid attention to the young dragon of light.
"A dragon of light…" he said "So this is whatyou planned to destroy my darkness… It's nonsense…!"
With a single movement of the tail, the gust of darkness was repeated again and took all the young dragons flying a few meters back.
"It is time to exterminate that race of light once and for all!" Malefor yelled as he closed in on Sam, who was still numb from the dark roar.
"You will not do it!" Aurora yelled, getting in her way, "I won't let you hurt my friends!"
"First, Cynder defending Spyro…" the Dark Master said, "Then Nina to that fire dragon and now… another dragon? Well, if that's what you want…"
Malefor prepared to strike, again exposing the terrible mana of darkness from him. However, he stopped when he saw all the young dragons walking and limping with Aurora and Sam.
"Does everyone want to continue suffering?" Malefor sneered, "There is no use trying now: I am thirteen times more powerful than before. That was the reason why I created the Dark Ones… their strength multiplied by me, has made me invincible…! You can't stop me, only death awaits you!"
"That... we won't know..." Ash replied, "Without trying..."
"We will support each other…" Rayla said.
"To be stronger…" Flint added.
"We will also join forces…" added Aurora.
"We will emanate the mana…" Drago continued, "Even the essence of it…"
"And we will shine light…" Sam continued.
"Even in the deepest abyss of darkness…" Nina finished.
Each of the young dragons radiated a mana of their own element, but they were stronger than before. Malefor looked surprised: he never believed that those young dragons would advance further than the last battle with them. However, he was not willing to let what happened earlier with Nina happen again. Then, he again radiated the terrible dark power from him.
"Evil Necros Star!"
Malefor's attack fell on the young dragons with all its darkness. They also counterattacked.
"Shadow Dragon!"
"Lightning Fang!"
"Nature Fury!"
"Ice Fury!"
"Flame Explosion!"
"Blazing Dragon!"
"Meteor Flare!"
The seven Skylanders joined their techniques in a single combo and against Malefor's. The clash of both powers was brutal and it was held in the air: while all the rocks around it broke and the wind roared with force. Neither side looked like they were going to give up.
But suddenly the combined attack gained force and advanced towards Malefor. However, the Dark Master was not willing to lose. Finally, the concentration of the shock reached its breaking point and exploded very close to Malefor. The exhausted Skylanders nearly collapse from exhaustion.
"We…did it…" thought Nina.
"It's still too early to rest, brats..." said the voice they didn't want to hear.
From the smoke caused, Malefor appeared: he barely had his right leg burned from trying to stop the attack, but he had succeeded. Furthermore, the darkness of him seemed even greater. The young dragons looked on in fear: was there any way to defeat him?
"I will annihilate you!" Malefor roared in anger, "Dark Ether Comet!"
A great comet of energy produced by and launched by Malefor's darkness loomed toward the weary Skylanders.
"Terra Shield!"
"Ice wall!
"Electro sphere!"
"Wall of flames!"
"Shadow Barrier!"
"Ether barrier!"
Six defensive shields of earth, electricity, ice, fire, shadow and ether from Spyro and his friends protected the young dragons. However, Malefor's forces overcame these impediments and badly injured all of them: Spyro had a fractured right leg; Cynder, the left wing; Thorr, the column; and Jhonny the left leg; Ray and Edel were more fortunate, but each of their bones also seemed to be on the verge of being broken.
"Dad!" Nina yelled.
"All of you…" Malefor said in his anger, "I have had enough of you! Final dead!"
Malefor's mana rose into the clouds, generating a storm of black lightning and spreading the darkness to lands beyond the ruins of the mountain…perhaps, to the entire world. Thorr, with the pain he felt, managed to sink a claw into the earth, causing the area Spyro and the others were stepping on to submerge.
Unfortunately, he did not arrive in time: a powerful lightning bolt fell from the storm on all the heroes and the earth opened up causing them to fall into a deep pit.
