Chapter 3

Rosalie was furious, and completely driven by her instincts as she attacked Edward over and over again. She showed no signs of letting up, and Edward was taking quite the beating, as he couldn't use his power to see her next move. He had never seen his sister's eyes so black, had felt such killing intent from her. He knew if he wasn't careful, Rosalie would rip him to pieces without a second of hesitation.

Bella found herself watching the fight with wide eyes...or watching where the fight was happening anyways, her eyes unable to keep up. She found herself sinking into the water, not out of fear, but to hide her blush as she replayed what had just happened in her head.

Now that the blonde was away from her, she felt more embarrassed than ever at what had happened, and her reaction to it.

A loud tearing sound brought Bella out of her worries and watching the scene in front of her again, just in time to see something fly through the air. Was that an arm? Maybe Bella should try to stop the fight after all?

"Uh, guys?" Bella called hesitantly. "Um, hello?" Neither vampire even looked at her. "Excuse me, please stop fighting! I think at least one of you two is hurt." Bella risked a glance towards wherever that thing had gone flying, and confirmed her suspicions. That was definitely an arm, and a male one at that. "Guys I really do think you should stop. One of you is missing an arm. I'm pretty sure that's bad."

Edward risked an incredulous glance at the human, only for Rosalie to tackle him hard in that brief second of distraction. His entire body felt the impact and started to crack, and for a moment, he was sure Rosalie might actually kill him. Somehow, luckily, Rosalie only latched on to his other arm and ripped that off as well.

Bella continued to tread water as she looked around for some way to help. She had just started to consider diving for sticks to throw at them in hopes of distracting the two fighters when a girl with spiky black hair appeared next to her.

"You scared me," Bella said in surprise, her voice strangely even. She sure didn't sound scared, even her heart hadn't skipped a single beat. It made Alice want to laugh.

"When I get away from you, act injured," Alice said to the confused human. "I promise you it will break up the fight." Knowing better than to hang around and risk Rosalie turning her protective fury on Alice, the little pixie vampire blurred away.

Who even was that? Bella thought in confusion, but decided it was best to do what the girl had said anyway. It wasn't like she had any other ideas.

Pulling herself together, Bella prepared herself to give the acting performance of a lifetime. In a loud, clear voice, she announced, "Ow. Oh god the pain. Why must I hurt so? Why?"

It was genuinely the worst acting Alice had ever seen. Thankfully, because Rosalie was so driven to protect her newly found mate, miracle of miracles, it worked. Rosalie immediately froze, her head whipping in the direction of her mate. She didn't see any injuries...but Bella was still groaning and flailing and...was she reciting poetry?

"Thank god," Edward breathed when Rosalie took a hesitant step toward Bella.

Just like that, Rosalie remembered Edward was still there, and while no longer a threat, a being that still pissed off Rosalie immensely. She flashed towards him and with one well placed knee, hit him right in the balls as hard as possible. Edward's balls actually cracked and crumbled under the strength, but before his body could register just how intense the pain was going to be, Rosalie was in front of her mate worriedly.

"Are you okay? Where are you injured?" Rosalie demanded, sounding way too bitchy despite herself. When Bella didn't respond quickly enough, having barely enough time to realize Rosalie was in front of her once more, Rosalie pulled the girl right out of the water and into Rosalie's arms. She didn't know where Bella hurt, but she knew she would protect the girl from anything she could.

"Oh no, this is bad," Bella mumbled. Before Rosalie could become even more crazed with worry, she smelled it; Bella's arousal. She could even feel the heat from the girl's cheeks as the human buried her face in Rosalie's neck in embarrassment. "Please don't make a fool of yourself, please don't make a fool of yourself," Bella whispered under her breath desperately, and Rosalie couldn't help but smile as she nuzzled the girl's throat. The girl was fine, Rosalie knew that now. Bella was just...special.

Mm...Bella still smelled amazing too. Even after everything that happened, even knowing Edward was only a few yards away crumpled in a ball of agony, Rosalie felt her body reacting to Bella's.

"So, um...are you still going to eat me?" Bella asked after a brief pause, causing Rosalie to jerk away just enough to give the brunette a withering glare.

"Of course not!" Rosalie snapped. "I was never going to eat you, Bella."

"But...but you were, you know...my neck." Why did she have to stutter like that? Ugh, it made her even more embarrassed.

Before Rosalie could give the human a scathing and defensive reply while somehow not admitting how much her lust had taken control of her, Alice was suddenly back. Rosalie snarled at the new intruder, pulling Bella even closer, ready to defend her breakable human mate with her life. It was only the anxious look on Alice's face and the placating hand gesture that stopped Rosalie from getting ready to fight.

Oh my god, I can feel...I need to put my clothes back on. It was the feel of Rosalie's clothes, now soaked and clinging to Rosalie's body, that made Bella realize the dangers of her current situation. Being wet herself and in nothing but a bikini, Bella could feel every curve of Rosalie against her. It made her mind short circuit in ways it had never done before.

"This is dangerous." Bella didn't mean to say it out loud, but it slipped out anyways. Two pairs of golden eyes briefly landed on her, but before she could find herself too embarrassed, the girl with the spiky black hair agreed with her.

"Bella is right," Alice said. She glanced purposely over at Edward, still curled in an armless ball on the ground, then met Rosalie's eyes. "We need to get Bella away. Now. I need to stay with Edward."

Realizing how serious Alice was, Rosalie nodded. "Should I take her home?"

"For now, yes. Stay with her." Alice's gaze once again moved to Edward, and Rosalie started to realize how serious the situation was as panic glinted in her sister's eyes. "Seriously Rose. Please don't leave her side."

Before Bella could ask what was going on, or begin to try and understand what was happening, Rosalie was flying through the woods with Bella in her arms.

It wasn't until Rosalie had somehow magically run right to her truck, depositing Bella in the passenger seat so that Rosalie could drive, that Bella realized something was forgotten.

"Wait, my clothes! We left all of my stuff back there," Bella protested. She reached for the door, only for Rosalie to grab her by the wrist. When she looked up at the blonde beauty, she found Rosalie's eyes were black, her body tense, a grimace on her face.

"Will you care about your life for one fucking second?" Rosalie snapped, looking so furious and freaked that it rendered Bella silent. Rosalie didn't wait for a reply, just started the truck. "Tell me where you live."

"Um, my dad is Charlie…" Bella started, still out of it from the intensity in Rosalie's eyes. She couldn't even remember his address. "He's the chief of police."

"I know where he lives," Rosalie said, for once thankful that they had been dragged over by Carlisle to attend a barbeque at Charlie's house.

Bella nodded to herself as Rosalie started to drive, but it wasn't long until she had to say something about what was bugging her. The gorgeous blonde had, after all, seemed torn between killing her and yelling at her and also wanting to protect her, but she had definitely appeared pissed at Bella for nearly the entire time. She couldn't imagine the girl actually wanting to spend even more time around Bella. "Um, Rosalie?"

"Hm?" was Rosalie's hummed reply, never taking her eyes off the road. The exact opposite of Bella, who was doing everything not to look at the road and see just how fast the scenery was passing by.

"I don't really get everything that's going on...it's been a bit of a crazy ride since we had met after all." That was the understatement of the century right there. "But are you really going to stay with me?"

Oh, little human, Rosalie thought with a bitter smile. You have no idea. Regardless of what is going to happen, I'm going to be staying with you for a very, very long time.

Despite the current danger, Rosalie felt her dead heart warm.
