Lucy sighed as she say by Levy's bed just thinking. Why her? Why them? Its wasn't fair to Levy, Jet, and Droy. She sighed once more and looked up at the ceiling while she watched the three unconscious mages. Everyone had suggested she protected them while the rest of Fairy Tail attacked Phantom Lord. She shook her head, even Marie had wanted to join Happy in the fight, leaving her alone. Lucy rubbed her arm and stood, brushing back Levy's bangs in sadness.
"I promise you Levy. The person who did this to you is gonna pay. I'll make sure of it." She left the infirmary, traveling to get a couple groceries. She held them tightly to her body as she walked through an alleyway. It was a shortcut back to Fairy Tail anyway. That's when it began to rain. "Weird. Raining when there's not a cloud in the sky." Lucy mumbled. She looked behind her at the end of the alley. How come is was raining solely where she was at and not back there?
A woman then appeared in front of her. "Drip drop. Drip drop," The blue haired woman mumbled. "Might you be Lucy Heartfilia?" Lucy immediately dropped her bag of food and had magic swirl around her body. No one knew of her actual last name, except her family. Not even Marie knew she had the last name Heartfilia.
"Who are you? And how do you know my name." The blonde asked with a snare. The blue haired woman looked at the Lucy before walking away. Lucy almost let her guard down, but a man appeared from the ground, startling her.
"Oui oui, we found miss Hearfilia! I am Sol, and this is Juvia. We are from Phantom Lord madam. We are here to take you to headquarters." Lucy went to punch the French man in the face, but he only dodged, seeping into the ground. Only to jump her from behind. He grabbed the back of her hands with a surprisingly strong grip. All the while, smiling like he wasn't about to just kidnap someone.
"You're not taking me anywhere, let me go!" Lucy gasped as a circular bubble of water encased her body. Holding her breath, she heard Juvia and Sol began to speak to one another.
"This is Juvia's water lock. Master Jose told us you would be feisty. Sol, we must get her back to headquarters quick, or Master Jose will get angry." She said to Lucy, then eventually turning to her friend. Lucy learned of Phantom's elite members called the element four. Lucy knew those two were part of it.
"Oui, we can't have him send out Gajeel and have him go overboard like the last time. Don't you agree that pinning the small poor woman and her friends too a tree was a bit too much?" Sol hummed, twirling his mustache. Lucy tried to get her body to move, so she could get out. She figured out it was this Gajeel guy that attacked her friends. She had to find him and show him a thing or two.
"Juvia does agree," The water woman looked up at Lucy. "Please fall asleep, Lucy Heartfilia. You wouldn't want Gajeel-san to be sent out by our Master again. He is a lot more ruthless than we could ever be." Lucy let the air leave her lungs. She couldn't let that man attack anyone else. She could figure a way to escape, but she wouldn't be able to deal with anymore guilt.
Her keys fell to the ground as she lost all consciousness.
...
Natsu was furious. Phantom Lord and Fairy Tail always had quarrels but neither had crossed the line until now. Not only did the beat some of his family senseless, but they made his teammate and friend cry. He looked to the right of him and noticed Happy and Marie's determined expression. He remembered asking why Marie chose to fight instead of staying with Lucy, and the cat just told him she would get revenge for making Lucy cry.
Natsu kicked the guild's doors open, the door flying back off its hinges and hitting another one if its members. "You all picked a fight with Fairy Tail. If you want a fight, you'll get one!" Natsu's voice echoed throughout the guild as he punched a Phantom Lord member across the face. Everyone else followed behind him, beating on each member who all looked less than prepared. In the corner of Natsu's eyes, he saw Master head up the stairs, figuring he was going to fight Phantom's Master.
A man then jumped down from a beam holding the building together. He landed smoothly on his feet and swallowed loose screws. A wave of metallic hit Natsu's nose and he bared his teeth in anger. He knew that scent all too well. "Ah, so I see the Fairy's came after all. How exciting, gihi." The man snickered.
Elfman took his chance to attack the man first, using his beast soul arm to smash against the man's iron club that formed out of his hand. Elfman was keeping up, but Natsu could tell it wouldn't last much longer. Since Elfman was so big, he wasn't going to be as nimble or fast as the iron wielder. He was one of Phantom's strongest members, the iron dragon slayer, black steel Gajeel. His piercing red eyes, long unkempt hair, and face piercings would probably scare anyone. But it only pissed off Natsu.
Just as Elfman was punched in the gut by Gajeel's iron club, Natsu took this opportunity to jump on the iron, pushing Elfman back in the process. The white haired man gasped as Natsu ran up Gajeel's arm and punched him across the cheek. "Hey! So unmanly!" Elfman protested.
"Let me get a crack at him!" Natsu grinned back at him while dodging Gajeel's attack. Gajeel stretched his iron covered leg to Natsu's gut suddenly, knocking the air out of the teen. Gajeel grinned at what he thought would be a victory. Natsu then grinned, wrapping his sizzling hand around the iron, throwing Gajeel up in the air and across the guild hall. Gajeel was surprised for a moment, before standing up and covering it with a smirk.
"I'm impressed Salamander, thought you more talk." Just as Natsu was going to attack him again, Makarov fell through the ceiling, landing down on the floor unconscious. His skin was green, while he had a troubled looked on his face. Natsu gasped and turned to Gajeel to ask him what Jose did to him, but the iron dragon slayer was gone. Natsu growled and began to fight other members again. Progressively getting angrier and angrier.
"Gajeel, get you're iron ass out here you coward! And you thought I was all talk!?" He was so angry he couldn't even focus on Makarov at the moment. Though that was Erza's one and only objective. She ran to him and kneeled down to hold him up in her arms.
"Master!" Erza yelled, shaking him slightly to see if he would wake up. Everyone else gathered around the sickly old man, temporarily forgetting the scuffle between guilds.
"Their master was took out." One of them gasped.
"Does that mean we win?" Another asked, looking at a group of their own guild members.
"I think so!" Phantom Lord cheered, and began to chase out of the rest of Fairy Tail. Erza gasped and handed Makarov to Elfman, telling the large man to take him and run him to their own guild hall. And to call a woman name Porlyusica. She was a very talented healer and the only one that could possibly save their guild Master.
"Retreat!" Erza cried, using a hand signal for all of her guild mates to leave at once. Everyone obeyed her orders, except Natsu who was still busy trying to coax out Gajeel. And Gray who ran up to her with a glare.
"What! Hell no Erza, they hurt too many already!" Erza stumbled over to him and fell into the mage' chest. Curling her body into him. Like she was going to him for comfort. Gray stood there for a second, concern written all over his face.
"Please, if our Master isn't here to fight with us we don't stand a chance. He's hurt and he needs us right now..." She said as she hugged the ice mage closer. Gray sighed as he looked down at her. Gray definitely still wanted to fight, but the way Erza was acting was freaking him out. He looked away from her and scratched his cheek.
"Alright. Let's just go." Everyone fled quickly, except for the fire wielder. He had finally found Gajeel handing upside down, his shoes bolted into a wooden beam. He was just about to come up there and give him a piece of his mind when another man appeared beside Gajeel. He had on a wide long coat with his eyes covered by a bandage.
"So, what on the Lucy girl?" Gajeel asked once he notice the man. The iron dragon slayer jumped up next to the blindfolded man and gave him a sideways glance. Natsu heard Lucy's name being called and froze. He made sure to act as if he wasn't paying any attention so they would continue to speak.
"She has been captured and is in good hands. It's so sad!" The bigger man cried.
"Uh yeah," Gajeel rolled his eyes. "So it was your doing then? You were the one that trashed their Master. I gotta hand it to ya, you're weird but a big help Aria." Aria cried into his sleeve while Gajeel crossed his arms and stepped away from the bawling man. Natsu clenched his fist and looked back up at Gajeel who grinned wickedly at him. "We'll have to continue this fighr later, Salamander. I look forward to it." He disappeared along with Aria, using the big man's powers to do so.
Natsu growled and grabbed a random man without looking. Happy and Marie were right next to each other, watching Natsu give the Phantom Lord member a ferocious glare. "Where the hell is Lucy?! Where did your master take her?!"
"W-Who is Lucy?! I've never even heard that name before!" The poor man shivered in terror. Natsu stared in the terrified man's eyes, no trace of mercy present.
"Wrong answer..." Natsu lit him on fire for only an split second, leaving the man scream in pain. He looked at the man again, even angrier. "I'll ask you one more time, where is Lucy!?"
"She might be at our headquarters. I-I'll show you the way, so please stop making the face at me!" The poor man cried.
"Show me then." He grabbed the back of man's shirt and dragged him out of the guild hall, destroying the wall on his way out.
...
Lucy groaned as she sat up from the hard concrete floor. She looked blankly around the room and frowned. She remembers getting captured by two members of the element four. They must of brought her here. She stood up when she heard footsteps coming her way. She tried breaking the rope restraints, but found they were sturdier than normal rope.
And she felt her magic being repressed by them. It must of been some sort of magic rope that sealed her magic ability so that she couldn't use them. She sighed, pulling on the rope once more in one last attempt. The footsteps got louder until she heard the cell door start to open. She stood there frozen while a creepy man with dark lipstick stepped in.
"I see you're awake" He chuckled, shutting the door behind him. "I should probably introduce myself. I am Jose prorla, Phantom Lord's Master." He looked her striaght in the eye and smirked when he noticed her shiver.
"I sorta figured by now. So then, what do you want from us?" She stepped back at his demonic aura and put on her guard. If she really needed to, she could kick him to distract him and make a run for it. That was pretty much the only plan she could try at the moment. She certainly couldn't use her magic with those restraints tied around her wrists.
"From us? Oh, you mean Fairy Tail don't you? Well, they were just a mere perk of capturing one of their guild members."
"Who are you talking about, who exactly are you looking to hunt?" Jose laughed at her confusion and wiped an invisible tear away. She narrowed her eyes. How could he be amused right now? She was being serious.
"How naive are you, Miss Lucy Heartfilia. Daughter of Jude Heartfilia, a debutante. I'm surprised you haven't told your little friends of your secret yet?" Lucy looked to the ground with a frustrated expression on her face. How did they know of her? The daughter of Jude Heartfilia had been presumed missing for years. Why is this news now being dug up?
"I'm no longer Lucy Heartfilia, I am Lucy of Fairy Tail. I am the daughter of Draco, the celestial dragon. There was no need for me to tell anyone of my past, because I was so young at the time I can barely remember it." He crossed his arms with a hum.
"Interesting, your father told us that you were probably a dragon slayer. Much like Gajeel and that Salamander of your guild. I've also heard you were a celestial wizard as well." She gasped. What did he mean her father told them? What does he have to do with this?!
"What does Jude have to do with this? Tell me." She glared. He wasn't fazed by her at all and only gave her a creepy grin.
"He was the one that hired us to come get you..."
"Why? We haven't seen each other since I was a little girl. Why now? I don't get it." It's not like she held a huge grudge over the man. The night she left broke her heart. She knew Jude was upset that he hurt her mother, that she had to leave. He could of just had someone send for her and she would return to talk to him. Why did he have to do all this to her? To Fairy Tail?
"He never specified why he wanted you, not that I have any business knowing. Phantom Lord is just doing their job. Capturing you and taking you back to him. Destroying Fairy Tail was only a perk. So, if you cooperate with us, I can get you out of this dingy dungeon and into our finest suite." She huffed and looked away, only to later scream when a bug crawled up her leg.
"It touched me!"
"See. You don't want to be here. Just be a good little debutante and wait for daddy to come take you back." She took a deep breath. She had to trick him somehow. She smirked inwardly when an idea came her mind. Getting herself to blush, she looked up shyly at Jose.
"I-I need to use the bathroom." She squeaked. He only laughed.
"You think I would fall for such an old trick?"
"No, for real. I'm dying here!" Still with the smirk on his face, he threw a bucket at her feet. She looked at it strangely and back up to him..
"Here." Her mouth hung open. Did he actually expect her to use that!? She growled and stood up, hovering over the bucket.
"Well, if I must." She sighed.
"You're actually going to do it!" He choked. "F-Fine. I'll just turn around like the gentleman I am." She rolled her eyes at his words. Then a smirk came to her lips and she kicked him between the legs. He squeaked in pain and fell to the floor, holding himself. "You brat!" He shouted.
"There's a reason why those old tricks still work!" She laughed, turning away from him. She grinned and winked at the man. "Well it's been nice, but I should probably go now." Just as she was going to leave, she stopped suddenly when she noticed just high up they were. They were several stories high, her skirt flowing in the wind. Her eyes widened as she turned to face Jose.
"I must of forgotten...to mention," Jose snickered, slowly rising from off the ground. "We are in the highest floor of Phantom Lord headquarters. There is no way out." She bit her lip and looked at the drop below her. With her dragon hearing, she heard Natsu's voice in the distance. She just hoped he was close enough to catch her. She closed had eyes and leaned back, falling to the ground.
Jose made a strangled noise of surprise before he fell to the ground. As she continued to fall to her death, she yelled out the first thing that came to her mind. "Natsu!" She screamed. Opening one eye, she noticed a head of pink hair running to her at high speed.
"Lucy!" He jumped up and caught her just in time. They flew through the air while he turned so he crashed into the brick wall they headed to. Both dragon slayers crashed to the ground harshly while Lucy landed on top of Natsu. Her chest pressed into his face, though she was just glad he caught her.
"Woah, raining Lucys!" Happy yelled out, watching the scene between the two unfold. Marie wiped the sweat away from her forehead. She was so happy that Natsu caught her. She looked at the pink haired boy fondly for a moment with newfound respect for the man. She would never forget this day as long as she lived.
"Just in the nick of time." He said, his voice muffled by her body.
"Yeah...thank you." She wiggled herself off him while he stood up to help her. He untied her bound wrists and looked at Happy and Marie with a worried gaze as Lucy looked down at the ground sadly. But Natsu rode it off as her being upset that she was kidnapped and turned to Happy.
"Come on Happy, were right here! Let's fight these jerks!" Happy flew beside Natsu and began to scold him.
"No way, the Master is hurt!"
"Yeah, that's why I wanna get revenge!"
"Oh yeah? Nab has a broken arm!"
"I'm stronger than him anyways!"
"Macao is hurt too!"
"He's old!"
"You're not strong enough to beat them on your own!"
"You saying I'm weak?!"
"Yes! Without the rest of the guild." Lucy continued to listen to them bicker back and forth. It was all her fault the guild was injured. She stroked Marie's fur as she began to wipe her watering eyes. She mumbled something, but not even Natsu heard.
"I am so sorry." She said again, but louder. Natsu stopped and looked at her with a confused expression. "This is all my fault, if it wasn't for that night, we wouldn't be at war with Phantom Lord right now " She sobbed, crying into her hands.
"What are you talking about?" Natsu said softly, bending down in front of her while she continued to sob.
"But I don't wanna leave Fairy Tail! Because I finally got a family back!" Lucy whimpered. Marie cried as she hugged Lucy's knee. She didn't know why the blonde was so upset, but it made her sad as well. Natsu furrowed his brows.
"Why would you leave?" She didn't answer and only cried louder. He flinched back at the sound and gave her an awkward expression while he rubbed the back of his neck. Happy sighed and flew next to Natsu who was beyond lost on how to cheer up with friend.
"See? We should just go home for now." Natsu sighed and looked away. Lucy sniffled and rubbed her sore and tired eyes.
"Alright. Lucy," He mumbled, leaning down towards the celestial mage. She looked up at him with one last round of tears rolling down her reddened cheeks. "Do you want me to carry you?" Her lip quivered and she nodded. He sighed softly and turned around so that she could climb in his back.
"Thank you...I'm so sorry." She whispered as she snuggled into the crook of his neck. He tensed slightly at the feeling before he scoffed and looked to the side.
"Stop acting like a weirdo. And stop apologizing." He murmured softly. He felt her smile against him, which brought his own smile back. Eventually, she fell asleep. The arms wrapped around his neck loosened and her breathing became quiet and even. Happy and Marie snickered lightly at Natsu and poked fun at him.
"She must be really comfortable on you, or she wouldn't have fallen asleep." Happy laughed. Natsu stuck out his bottom lip in a pout as he looked away with a light blush.
"Shut up Happy!" Natsu sped up and away from the flying blue cat who laughed even louder, dragging Marie into the teasing as well. Natsu huffed and repositioned the blonde on his back, she was starting to get heavy. Luckily, they made it back to the guild. Natsu hopped down in the basement and watched as everyone turned to him. There was still a gloomy feeling in the air from the retreat they had to do.
"What happened?" Gray asked Natsu as the dragon slayer sat down on a stool. He shook Lucy awake.
"She was kidnapped. I just got done rescuing her." Everyone gasped and watched as the blonde slowly got up and stared down at her feet in guilt. She sat next to Natsu on another barrel. She fiddled with her thumbs and waited for someone to start asking questions. "You should tell us what's really going on Lucy." Natsu said softly. The blonde nodded solemnly and sighed.
"The reason we were attacked was because...my biological father wants to take me back, I'm not sure why he needs me now after all these years but I do know he didn't need to do all this to get me to visit him," She mumbled. "I left my home at four years of age because my mother wanted me to find Draco and learn from him. My mother and father would fight constantly months before it happened. Now that I'm older, I have a feeling that my mom was the one who wanted me to meet Draco and my dad opposed it. The night he slapped my mother across the face was the night I left. I don't know why he wants me, but I can't go back now! Not after what he did to all of you!"
"What's his name? I mean, how can someone have that much money to hire an entire guild?" Gray said with surprise. He crossed his arms and leaned up against the wall. Lucy bit her lip, trying to choke back the tears that threatened to fall.
"Jude Heartfilia." Everyone froze at the name that came out of her mouth. Jude Heartfilia was highly successful business man. He ran the Heartfilia railroads. The man wasn't just wealthy, he had power others could only wish for. The silence broke her down again and she cried.
"I'm so sorry I didn't tell anyone. I didn't think it would ever be important since it's been over ten years since I've seen him!" Marie clenched her small fist.
"You never even told me..." She mumbled. Lucy's eyes snapped down to her companion.
"I'm sorry Marie. I just wanted to start a new life without having to relive my past..." Marie flew into her lap and hugged onto her shirt. Lucy smiled and pat the cat's head. She turned to everyone else. "I know I haven't been here very long but I see you all as family. I know this is selfish, but I beg you not to send me back." She bowed her head and patiently waited for a response.
"Don't worry, we won't send you back. Ever." Natsu said aloud. With the rest of the guild nodding along with him. Lucy bawled again at his words and hugged him close to her. He yelled out in surprise, before leaning into her hug. Though he didn't hug back.
"God! I can't find mystogan anywhere!" Kana yelled, throwing her cards down suddenly.
"Laxus! We need your help! Everything is going down hill fast and Phantom Lord is going to attack!" Mira pleaded at a lacrima. Laxus's form was projected on the sphere as he gave the white haired mage a smirk.
"And how is that my problem?"
"Because your in the guild! And the master is hurt...he might not make it..." Mira mumbled.
"Oh so the old man is gonna croak huh?" Laxus cackled. "That means I'm going to be guild master sooner than I thought!" Mira clenched her fists beside her.
"They're after Lucy, a member of our group. Please-"
"The new girl with a big mouth? Fine, if she becomes mine-" The comment was cut short by Natsu, who glared at the broken Lacrima. His finger was on fire, he shot the lacrima with fireball. Lucy tugged on his vest in a thank you while she smiled. Mira's cheeks ran wet with tears.
"Why does he have to be that way..." Her cries were kept short. A huge rumble shook the guild hall ruthlessly. And Alzack came running down with a panicked look on his face. He pointed his thumb to the surface and glanced around the basement.
"You guys might wanna come see this!" Everyone ran outside to see Phantom Lord's guild hall in the water. The bottom of the building had long mechanical legs to keep it high off the ground as it slowly moved towards Fairy Tail.
"What the hell!?" Multiple guild member exclaimed. Even Erza ran out in her towel from a shower to see what was going on. Natsu stuck close to the blonde as Lucy watched with wide eyes as Jose spoke thought their intercom.
"Give back Lucy Heartfilia!" He screamed, aiming a huge canon in their direction. Erza gasped and transformed into her Adamantine Armor. She held up her shield as Jose blasted the his canon at Fairy Tail. Lucy tried to run and help her, since she felt it was her fault, but Natsu held her back.
"No Lucy! I don't like this as much as the next guy but I can't allow you to help her. You'll just get in her way!" Lucy tried to tug away from him, but his grip felt a hundred times her strength. She gave up and fell to the ground. Natsu held her still until the attack ended. Erza slid back a few feet while her armor broke into pieces, falling off her body. She was unconscious.
"Erza!" Gray yelled, running toward the crater that Erza made blocking the large attack. He picked her up out of the blast zone and ran inside the guild where Mira was. Unfortunately, Makarov was still as Porlyusica while she treated his illness so she couldn't heal the redhead at all. "I'll leave her to you." Mira nodded at Gray's words and helped set Erza down at a table. Gray ran out and stood next to Natsu and Lucy.
"You may have stopped the first attack but you won't have that requip mage to block the next one!" Jose announced. "You have fifteen minutes to give us Lucy!" Jose laughed, the guild master canon reforming a magic circle. During the wait, he sent down tons of cloaked phantoms that attacked Fairy Tail. Natsu looked up at the canon and turned to Kana.
"Hey! Do you think if I destroyed the canon from inside, it would stop it from working?" Kana looked up at the guild hall.
"Natsu, that's the smartest thing you've ever said," He pouted at her insult. "Happy and Natsu are going to defeat the canon so we gotta be here and distract these phantoms!" Kana yelled a loud while Happy and Natsu flew off towards Phantom Lord. Everyone watched them go and smirked, magic surrounding them.
"Let's do this!"
