Power Rangers: Drago Fury
As kids, and even as adults for some of us, no judgement whatsoever, I'm sure we all grew up watching Power Rangers and, well, I've kind of been getting back into liking them so I decided, in true Toothlove fashion, to try putting the HTTYD gang into morph suits...or whatever their suits are called. As I said, it's been a while.
I am pretty excited about this, I've been drawing up what I wanted this to be in my head for weeks now and I went through a few initial ideas but I think I have down something interesting and may even take some of these characters to places that we've never seen before.
Well, enough chit-chat, time to get down to business.
Enjoy
Chapter 1: Call to Scale Pt. 1
In the dead of the night, in the streets of a large city, a group of humanoid creatures wearing black scaled suits and masks with goblin-like faces were raiding buildings, seeming to be in search of something.
While they seemed to have a wide range of loot in hand, mostly gold jewelry, one creature wearing a similar suit with red stripes along the sides and standing on a ledge, speaks to them saying, "You fools, this isn't what we're seeking and you know it! Now, GET BACK TO TASK!"
However, seconds later, a loud, slightly nasally male voice appears saying, "I'd say you've taken just about enough, Vidger!"
Then, from the darkness of a nearby alley, comes out a person wearing a black suit that was also lined with scales, but his helmet had a bunch of bumps sticking out of the side, two large and 6 smaller, two green, oval 'eyes', a glass cover on his eyes, a red symbol of a bat-winged dragon on his chest, and a black sword attached to his belt.
The leader of the group of creatures, apparently names Vidger, scoffs to the person and says, "So you did decide to show up and mess up our plans."
The man in black steps forward and comments, "Any time there's trouble in my city, I have to have a saying in it."
Vidger replies, "Fair enough. Well, I suppose I shouldn't make this too easy for you. Shedders, GET THAT POWER RANGER!"
The creatures, apparently called Shedders, drop what they were carrying and approaches the unnamed black Power Ranger with their defenses high while Vidger uses this opportunity to vanish away.
The Ranger simply twists his neck before pulling out the black hilted sword on his belt and charging towards the Shedders at near-blinding speed.
Using his sword, fists and feet, the Ranger almost effortlessly swipes away every one of those 12 Shedders, each one collapsing on the ground soon after, clutching their arms, legs or sides in pain.
After taking out all of the Shedders, the Ranger grabs the nearest Shedder and points his sword to him demanding, "Alright, you bug, tell me where your master is, right this instant!" The Shedder speaks some inaudible language of slurps before the Ranger replies, "Still can't talk eh? Then tell him this, I will find him, and when I do, I will have my revenge!" He slams the creature to the ground before fading off into the night.
Now away from the Shedders, The black Ranger now approaches a nearby walkway that hangs over a lake near the center of the city. As he passes through a tree, a purple light emerges around him and on the other side of the tree comes an auburn haired man wearing a black jacket, black shirt and jeans who had a total look of anger on his face.
The man leans onto the railings in front of the water as a female voice appears next to him. "Well, that was quite the battle, Hiccup." Next to him stood an orange haired woman wearing a white dress studded with gems approach him.
The man, Hiccup sighs. "Can this wait, Alicia?"
The woman, Alicia, replies, "I take it Vidger got away from you again?"
Hiccup closes his eyes. "Didn't I just say I didn't want to talk about this?"
Alicia then grabs his forearm and says, "Hiccup, don't you see it? With each battle, more and more of those Shedders keep showing up. You can't keep fighting them on your own. You need a team, and you know it."
Hiccup scoffs. "Great, a group of wanabees whose hands I'll have to hold until they can even take on their first enemy."
Alicia replies, "Hiccup-"
"NO, I told you once I told you a thousand times. I. Do. Not. Need. A. TEAM!"
"JUST LOOK AT YOURSELF!" Alicia replies. "These battles are just getting more and more frequent and they're taking a toll, both physically and mentally. You need help and you know it." She then looks down to the water and adds, "I think it's time we sent the Drago Scales to find their new keepers, to find our new Rangers…I just want to make sure it's alright with you."
Hiccup stares at the water a few minutes longer in total silence before turning around and putting his hands in his jacket pockets before replying, "Do what you have to do." Before walking off into the night.
Soon after leaving, a house sized, mechanical, black dragon with green eyes and a head design similar to that of Hiccup's Ranger helmet pops its head up from the railing. Alicia pats the creature's nose and comments, "I know. He's still hurting deep inside, that much is clear as day, I just hope that by finding these other Rangers, we can get him out of this loop."
The next day at a local high school, Berk High School, students were flooding in and out of the large glass doors as two twins, one boy and one girl, both with braided blonde hair, come onto the Tv screens in the school hallway. The boy begins by saying "Hello, BHS! I'm Tuffnut!"
And the girl adds, "And I'm Ruffnut!"
Then they say simultaneously, "Here with your afternoon news!" For a reason unknown to any other student, the twins insist on doing announcements like this in the afternoon.
Tuffnut begins by stating, "Our top story, the Spring Blossom Dance is coming up in a few weeks, so be sure to score yourselves a date."
Ruffnut adds, "Act now or you'll have to end up with Tuffnut!"
No one laughed at that attempt at humor as all of the students pretty much tuned out the twins and went about their morning, collecting their books and supplies from their blue locker.
Stood at one of said lockers is a blond haired girl wearing her favorite light blue t-shirt and blue skirt. She was putting away her books from her last class of the day when she closes her door to see a medium-length black haired boy wearing a white shirt, a red jacket and jeans. "Sup Astrid." The boy says.
Astrid rolls her eyes. "Ugh, don't you have someone else to bother, Snotlout?"
Snotlout shrugs. "Not until 11."
Astrid scoffs some more before saying, "Oh, I forgot something." She opens her locker again, making sure the metal door hits Snotlout's face, which was followed by a high-pitched yell. She closes the door and sees Snotlout rubbing his nose before saying, "Oh, my bad." She says as she walks away.
Snotlout walks after her saying, "Hey now, even you need to admit that was uncalled for. BUT, that's ok, because you can make it up to me by-"
"I'm not going to the Blossom Dance with you." Astrid says.
Snotlout groans. "But whyyyy noooooot?"
Before she could respond, however, she didn't even realize she was walking right into someone. Luckily, she didn't drop anything so she replies, "Oh, I'm so sorry."
Looking up to her was Hiccup who was less than impressed. "You better be sorry." He says before walking through the front entrance doors.
Astrid then scoffs. "Geez, what's up his behind?"
Just then, however, a fat boy with blonde hair wearing a yellow t-shirt comes up to the other two holding a newspaper. "Guys! Guys! Guys!"
Astrid looks behind her and asks, "What is it, Fishlegs?"
Fishlegs thrusts the paper into Astrid's hands. "See for yourself!"
Astrid grabs it and looks at an image that Fishlegs had circled. The image showed the Shedders from the previous night in that same street. "Whoa, what are those guys?" Astrid asks.
Fishlegs replies, "I don't know, but look at how they're all surrounding that one guy in the middle, there." He points out a person that did, admittedly, look different from the others. "Guys, that's a Power Ranger! I'm telling you!"
Snotlout rolls his eyes. "A-gain with the Power Rangers! Fishface, open your eyes, they're not real!" No Rangers had ever actually been spotted in Berk, the city everyone lived in, and they've only heard about the Rangers through tales from other cities.
Fishlegs replies, "They are SO real. Just look! Why would those other guys be looking at that one?"
Snotlout scoffs again. "So you're willing to tell me that there's a bunch of guys who have superhuman abilities dress up in different colored suits that fight bad guys."
Fishlegs says with full seriousness, "YES! That's exactly what I'm saying."
Astrid hands the paper back to Fishlegs and replies, "Sorry, Fishlegs, but I kind of have to go with Snotlout here. I mean, none of us have ever actually seen a Power Ranger so how can we prove that they're real?"
Fishlegs lowers his head to think when he notices something on the ground. "Hey, I think you dropped something."
Astrid turns around and sees a metal briefcase on the ground. She picks it up saying, "This isn't mine. Oh, it must belong to that grumpy looking guy we saw earlier."
Snotlout asks, "So why bother giving it back to him if he was such a jerk to us?"
Astrid shrugs, "I'm sure he'll want it back. Let's just-" Suddenly, Astrid notices something lit up from the inside of the case. Not wanting to disturb anyone, Astrid takes the case into an empty hall section and the boys follow when she asks, "What is in this case that's glowing like this?"
Fishlegs replies, "Maybe some kind of lights?"
Snotlout adds, "Glowsticks?"
Fishlegs adds, "A portal to a new dimension that's filled with rabid turtles?" The other two just stare at Fishlegs for a moment. "What? Anything's possible."
Astrid stares at the case some more before stating, "Wouldn't be polite of us to open someone else's case, but…"
Snotlout then rips the case from Astrid's hands and says, "Oh you're taking too long to decide, I want action NOW!" He undoes the latches on the case and opens it up to reveal three scale shaped items inside, one red, one blue and one yellow.
Astrid asks, "What…are they?"
Fishlegs replies, "They look like…scales, but from what?"
Snotlout replies, "I don't know why but somehow I think they're…speaking to us."
Astrid replies, "I'm getting that feeling too." The three of them look to each other before putting a hand up and reaching into the case when, seemingly out of nowhere, the scales light up even brighter and leap out of the case. The red scale went into Snotlout's hand, the blue into Astrid's and the yellow into Fishlegs's.
The three of them examine the still-glowing scales with awe as Fishlegs asks, "So…is something supposed to happen now?"
Astrid replies as she puts her blue scale down. "Guys, these aren't ours, ok? We need to give them back to that guy that bumped into us. For all we know, they could be very important to him."
Snotlout nods. "For once, I agree."
Meanwhile, Ruffnut and Tuffnut were meeting just outside school grounds when Tuffnut comments, "Alright, Ruff, here's the scoop, it seems that people aren't as interested in our afternoon news show anymore."
Ruffnut throws her hands into the air. "WHAT?! But where else are students going to get a daily dose of after-school news? Besides, we're the best newscasters in this school!"
Tuffnut shakes his head and reminds her, "Actually, we're the ONLY newscasters in this school. Anyway, if we don't come up with something now then we might get kicked out of the news team!" The two of them then put their heads together for a good moment before Tuffnut suggests, "Hey, how about we do a segment where we follow students around, get to know how school life is going for them?"
Ruffnut shakes her finger as she replies, "Hold that thought, there, broseph, I think I have an idea. What if we do a segment where we follow students around, get to know how school life is going for them?"
Tuffnut blinks before replying, "That's a great idea! Sure wish I came up with it. Question is, who do we follow."
Ruffnut then looks behind Tuffnut and sees Astrid, Snotlout and Fishlegs exit the building before saying, "How about those guys? Surely they have something interesting going on." Tuffnut nods and pulls out his video camera to start recording the three of them as they crouch down behind a bush.
Astrid, Snotlout and Fishlegs saw that the area in front of the school was already completely empty, there weren't that many students that attended the school so it was easy for it to become empty at the end of the day. Once outside, Astrid asks, "You see him anywhere?"
Fishlegs replies, "Nope, guess he already left."
Astrid snaps her fingers. "Shoot, if we knew who he was or where he lives then we could take the case to his house."
From the bush, Ruffnut asks Tuffnut, "You getting this?"
Tuffnut nods. "Yeah, don't really see anything out of the ordinary, though."
Ruffnut nods. "Well, keep filming, surely something is going to happen soon."
Moments later, however, the trio of Astrid, Snotlout and Fishlegs feel a gush of wind blow against them out of nowhere and seconds later, a group of Shedders appear and grab the trio by the arms and legs. The three begin to yell for help while the twins kept on recording what was going on until, seconds later, a flash appears and takes the trio away.
Ruffnut blinks before replying, "Whoa…what. Just Happened?" She looks to Tuffnut, who sat there speechless, before asking, "You get all of that?"
Tuffnut replies as he pulls out the side screen of the camera. "See for yourself!" He plays back the footage, only to find that there was nobody there. Neither the trio nor the Shedders.
Ruffnut comments, "Uh, I thought you said you got it."
Tuffnut replies as he looks at the camera, "I swear I was pointing this thing at them the whole time."
Ruffnut then looks ahead and replies, "My newscaster senses tell me that there's something going on here. Let's go." She grabs Tuffnut and the two of them head off.
Moments after being flashed away, Astrid, Snotlout and Fishlegs reappear to find themselves in the middle of the forest with the Shedders still locked firmly around them. Astrid still held on tight to the briefcase containing those scales, but those Shedders seemed to be going right for it, so Astrid tries to fight them.
Astrid yells, "These aren't yours! Let GO OF ME!" Suddenly, she feels something extending from her arms, almost like she was growing additional limbs, and the Shedders jump back as they yell in pain.
Confused as to why they let her go, Astrid looks down and screams in horror as she sees a bunch strange looking yellow spikes had extended from her arms. Snotout and Fishlegs look over at her and see her in her shock with the spikes. Snotlout asks, "Ok, when were you going to tell us you could do that?"
Astrid replies, "I…I didn't even know myself!" She looks down to the spikes and confirms that they are coming out of her, but they don't feel painful at all. She then tenses up her arm and the spikes suddenly retract back into her.
It was then that the Shedders ran towards her again. Screaming again, Astrid throws her arms to her sides which seemed to make the spikes reappear and actually fire from her arms, hitting both Shedders in the shoulder.
Astrid uncovers her arms to see that she did, in fact, fire those spikes, though how she did it is beyond her.
She then hears Snotlout yell, "HEY! You mind sending those weird body spikes over here?" However, the Shedders around his arms then jerked back, also yelling out in pain. He then says to Astrid, "Thanks!"
Astrid replies, "I…didn't do anything. SNOTLOUT!" she gestures to Snotlout's shoulders.
Snotlout looks to his shoulders and sees that they have both suddenly caught on fire, though weirdly enough he didn't even feel pain, in fact he flicks his hands and makes the flames go down to cover his hands.
Now mighty confused but also seeing the Shedders approach him, Snotlout throws a ball of fire right into the Shedder's line of running. Snotlout turns around and does the same to the other Shedder before running up to it and punching it on the side and kicking it to the ground.
Now feeling left out, Fishlegs wonders what he could do in this situation, that was until he clenches his fists to find that the skin on his hands became dry as, well, rocks. Fishlegs then uses that to push the Shedders on him out of the way and using his hands to hit them and force them to the ground.
Meanwhile, Astrid gives some more Shedders a series of punches and kicks to knock them right to the ground. Before they even knew it, the trio had taken out every single Shedder that brought them to the forest and Snotlout comments, "Well, I hope nobody is going to be missing these guys."
Fishlegs turns a Shedder over to see the goblin-faced mask that they were wearing. "What even are these guys? Some kind of gang member? Also, how in the hell did we take them out?"
Astrid replies, "You're asking the wrong person." Suddenly, the three heard something coming from the metal briefcase, the sound of something calling to them. Astrid opens up the case to see that the red, blue and yellow scales were, in fact, shining again. Astrid picks up the blue scale and suddenly, an image of a blue, large-headed dragon with yellow spikes comes to her head.
Snotlout picks up the red scale and an image of a red dragon with long horns and a long muzzle come to his head. Fishlegs picks up the yellow scale and an image of a fat yellow dragon with short wings comes to him.
The images only lasted seconds, but the three of them soon snapped out of it before Astrid comments, "Ok, clearly these things want something to do with us, just…what?"
Meanwhile, in a large cave on a remote forest island, Alicia was looking at a crystal ball on a table and had seen everything that just went down. She then says with a smile to Hiccup, who happened to be sitting near her, "Hiccup, I think we've found the answer to our problem." Hiccup just glances back with curiosity.
And that is where I will stop for now. Sorry if I'm cutting this chapter short, it's just there's so much I wanted to put that just couldn't fit into 1 chapter.
If you enjoyed this chapter and want to see more, make sure to Favorite/Follow or do something with this chapter, also leave a review telling me which Power Rangers series was your favorite. I haven't seen them all, but of the ones I have seen I think Ninja Storm takes a top spot in my heart.
Thanks for reading and I'll see you when the next chapter is finished.
