Chapter 21: Bad Influence, Positive Growth
"Sensei! Suzuka said that she found this under her big sis' bed."
It was morning, I was still 'recovering' from a discussion I had yesterday with Kariya Matou regarding the current situation with his niece. He said was going to be back through the first plane available so I could tell this conversation was going to happen in a few days now. The man had been rightfully tense when I explained the circumstance while also making sure to stress how Sakura was currently staying at a female teacher's house until he was back.
I thought about sending her back once the place had been cleaned up, but the girl looked more at ease while having around someone like Scathach. I think that was going to help her build a backbone or something like that, with the 'old-style' teacher happily giving her some tips for mental training. Nothing physical, not when the girl looked more like a diplomat than a professional fighter, but it would be wrong to say that her stay didn't influence the Queen of the Land of Shadows somehow.
What happens when you introduce Kamen Rider to someone like Shinsou? You get a new avid fan to the series from what I have seen: stumbling on the woman humming her way back to her flat while carrying a big bag filled with various items, shirts and costumes, from the franchise. She noticed me staring and she looked rightfully embarrassed... before bolting to her flat and shutting herself from the world. Well, most of the world since I heard Sakura giggling giddily while they went on to try out these new things.
At least I could say that Scathach was treating Sakura nicely and...
Now, back to the main issue and the reason why I was frowning hard at a confused-looking Kurihara Suzuka. At first glance, one would think little of 'Suzuka-chan', mostly because of how 'bland' her appearance looked. Yet, that assumption was a mistaken one. Not when her sister was known to have created a 'monster' out of her.
You see, the shy bespectacled girl I was looking at that was trying to get a few answers on the doujin she landed on my desk, was eventually going to become a fujoshi and a passionate Boy Love supporter. And while there was nothing wrong in having specific tastes in 'literature', that didn't mean I could just let a little girl delve into this mess at this stage of her life.
She was highly suggestionable and pushing her even so slightly into that rabbit hole may have some serious repercussions for her. So, I picked the piece, gave it a look and... yep, that's quite graphic. I slowly closed it and I put it down on the desk. Looking at the fidgeting Suzuka, I had a few questions of my own which took priority over hers.
"Have you read this?"
She blinked, slowly nodding while Illya, Tatsuko and Nanaki shared perplexed looks.
"Sensei, what is this? And why does it say 'adults only'?" The young Einzbern inquired and I found myself sighing.
"That's because it's the kind of genre which is not suited for those that have not reached the majority of age just yet," I calmly replied. "And before this is viewed as bad on you, Suzuka-chan, you are not in trouble."
"I-I am not?"
"Let's just say that I understood you were curious and while snooping around is bad, the fact that your sister left around something like this in a spot you could reach with ease is... pretty bad on her in most part," I elaborated, getting frowns from the rest of the girl.
"But why is it bad?"
"Well, that's because this describes a form of romance that you all can't understand properly just yet," I explained. "It's not a matter of age at that point, but rather you all have yet to form your own experience on how to understand this situation. And it takes years to do that."
"I-I liked it."
Ah. Oh no.
"What in... particular?"
"Well..." Suzuka looked quite nervous with that in-depth question. "I-I think it was... how the two boys looked so... happy. And so expressive in the doujin."
"...Did you pick all the emotions of the specific scenes?" I pressed on and the girl nodded. "Like... with this page?"
"I turned and revealed one of the tame pages in the early section of the doujin. Adjusting her glasses, Suzuka gave the page a look and then nodded.
"Kiba-kun looks nervous, but trying to hide his unease with a smile. The slight twitch at the left edge of his lips suggests he is forcing this smile because he wants to reassure Rito-kun."
I nodded, closing the doujin once again and... giving her a curious look. "Do you sketch, Suzuka-chan?"
I was soon presented with a notebook filled with numerous sketches and drawings. I knew she was good, but I didn't expect her to be this good at this age. I was stunned, I really was.
"Those are some impressive pieces, Suzuka-chan. You really put in a lot of effort, I can see it and I think your friends can too."
"Yeah, those are so well-made Suzu-chan!" Tatsuko commented happily. "Look at this one, she looks like a superhero."
"Sugoi, this looks like the coolest magical girl ever!" Illya quipped in delight, her words followed by agreeing nods from Nanami.
The bespectacled girl's face was beet-red with how many praises she was getting and I offered a tiny smile.
"Suzuka-chan. I wish to speak with your sister later today. I suppose she will be here to pick you up today."
"...Why?"
"Well, I don't want to sound pushy, but I think this is the kind of hobby that should be nurtured and provided support to grow. It's the kind of quality you should really look into investing in."
"You mean you want to... talk with her about the sketches."
"Yes-"
"I-I don't think it's a good idea," Suzuka mumbled, shaking her head. I was surprised by this opposition, but I could tell the reason was... worthy of a facepalm.
"Why not?"
"Because oneesan will... try to make me draw silly things like that doujin."
...
"Suzuka-chan, I am glad you told me this and I will make sure your sister will not tarnish your interest with her own things. I still think this quality of yours needs to be fostered and I can promise you she will not try anything 'funny' about it."
...
"Okay."
A few hours later, I was still in my classroom and yet, rather than the group of friendly students, I had to deal with Suzuka and her sister, Hibari. I knew little of this young woman beyond the fact she was a fervent BL fan and someone that was still going to college but preferred to study at home rather than follow lectures. She came through wearing a formal outfit and-
"I'm so sorry!" The college-tier dumbass apologized, bowing down excessively and frightening her little sister a tiny bit with that display. "I never intended for my innocent baby sister to see that sort of stuff. I swear I will hide it away- I mean, burn it at once, yes!"
I sighed loudly. "Hibari-san, I am glad to see you are willing to take responsibility for your mistake. But this meeting has another reason to be. Are you familiar with your sister's passion for drawing?"
The woman got up and finally sat beside her young sister. "Y-Yes. What about it?"
"I was curious to know if you knew the full extent of it since she showed me an impressive repertoire of art and showed me, by describing one of the more tame pages of that... 'piece', that she can understand the small details within art."
"...What?" Hibari asked smartly before turning to her little sister. "Suzuka-chan, what is your sensei talking about?"
Rather than explaining by words, the little girl retrieved her sketches and showed it to her sister. A few quiet seconds passed as the college student started to flip pages and look at the pieces and... Hibari gave me a look that was mixed with awe and pride.
"M-My imouto is so cool~!"
"Indeed, Suzuka-chan's work is nothing short of excellent but I believe that it would be best if it was fostered somehow," I suggested politely. "Maybe through one of those formation courses which allow mangaka to form their drawing foundation."
"A mangaka?!"
"Is that the artist for manga?" Suzuka innocently inquired and I nodded. "I can be that?"
"W-Well yeah," Hibari confirmed. "It's... it is a bit of a tough job, but this shows you can do it."
"So, I can make my own stories?"
"Yeah-"
"And have my friends read it!?" She giddily escalated, squeaking louder with each question. A behavior which amused both Hibari and I.
"That's correct, Suzuka-chan. Of course, that doesn't mean dropping out of school, but just giving your hobby a more serious look so it could become somewhat of a passion project and job once you are old enough to start working."
Normally, children would be worried if their future is involved in a conversation. But since this was Suzuka's major interest and something she was quite good at, the girl looked extremely giddy through the whole conversation. In the end, Hibari agreed to help as much as she could since their parents are not around to help them with that, and that she wasn't going to push her sister to draw... anything 'scandalously bad'.
I decided to let it be and trust my brotherly instincts when it came to Hibari's promise as she seemed to mean it. The two Kurihara ladies left and I was soon free to go home and deal with the rest of the business left for today.
I thought a few more peaceful days stood in front of us but- Surprises happened. And this one was quite... unexpected.
It was night and I could tell something was wrong.
Just mere hours ago, I had gone through the chores to prepare dinner, help around both Setanta and Eli with their homework and then sit down together with Medusa to watch some TV until she was tired and ready to bed. The girl couldn't get herself to sleep if she wasn't properly tired out as her mind tended to keep her awake in bed with bad memories.
Getting her to fall asleep first by the couch and then carry her to bed seemed to be the best option we had at the moment. I knew it was going to improve, but for now this would have to do. With the day coming to an end, I yawned and marched to my room, switching to my sleepwear and settling down on my bed.
I was soon asleep, nuzzling my head on my white soft pillow, and quite unaware that a surprise was soon to unfold while I slumbered. I don't know when this happened precisely, but I could remember it was quite late, it was still dark outside and my brain was just too deep in that sleepy phase that I wasn't minding any business over my surroundings.
So, I was not that aware when the door to my room opened and an intruder ventured inside. The door closed behind her, the stealthy figure smiled eye-to-eye, eyes aimed at my sleeping form before she cleverly shifted the covers and entered the bed, firmly pressing her face on my chest before closing her eyes and... falling asleep.
Two or so hours went by and I paid it no attention. My first thought as I felt a new source of warmth right beside me was: it's Eli. It has to be. Either her or Medusa.
But then, as I tried to find once more a chance to fall asleep, I realized it wasn't Eli. There was no way the airbags pressing against me were Eli's. Thus, out of tactical instinct, I did something that normally I wouldn't do against someone starting some cuddles: I pushed them off the bed and stood up over them with the ferocious stance of a tired but very panicking Italian young man!
"Owie!" A familiar voice commented, yet it held something different to it. An edge that made it sound... older than usual. Then I saw a tail, and her horns, and her long pink-violet hair and- I turned to stare at annoyed blue eyes. "What was all that about, Mastah!"
That's... Eli.
But... also not?
"Eli?"
"W-What, Mastah?!" She whined like her but-
"Since when you can age up?"
The girl, now a young woman, frowned at my words and then looked down to herself, saw how bigger she got in some previously slimmer areas and... gasped.
"WHAT?!"
What indeed!?
AN
A new issue came up. Prepare for even more shenanigans of the dragon girl kind! Also, next time, Leysritt will be around. And I'll leave it to just that~.
