Erupting up a new Friend
It was another calm day at the Dragerium and the six Drago Power Rangers plus Alicia were just chilling out, doing their own thing.
Snotlout had been writing in a notebook for quite some time, that was until he places one dot on said notebook and claims, "Aaaand, DONE! Finally!"
Dagur asks, "What are you writing? Your list of missing school assignments?"
Snotlout rolls his eyes to that comment. "No…that list is at home. What I actually have is the script for the movie that I'm making! The one I'll be writing, directing and starring in!"
Heather asks with a raised brow. "Since when do YOU make movies?"
Snotlout fans his right and to his chest. "Uh, my talents know no limits! By now you should know this! Anyway, if things go the way I am pretty sure they will go, this will be one of the greatest movies of all time!"
Deciding to humor Snotlout, Astrid asks, "Alright, so what's this box office buster about?"
Snotlout smirks and replies, "Well, I don't want to give away too much right now, but it's basically about a group of young adults that live in an island Viking village who learn about training dragons and work with dragons to help them win battles and such. I call it…Ways to Tame the big, Scaly, Fire Breathing Beasts that you Own!" The title of said movie got many confused looks from the other Rangers. "…Ok, the name needs some work, but the idea is there!"
Fishlegs asks, "Will I be in the movie?"
Snotlout thinks about it for a second and replies, "You'll be in it, but as a featured extra. I can't really give you any lines or keep you in plain sight, we need all the camera space for the real stars of the movie, that being me and the large, black dragon I'll be training, but I'll find a way to squeeze you in."
Heather then comments, "A black dragon? That sounds a bit like Hiccup."
Snotlout replies, "Oh, you couldn't be more wrong. Hiccup will be my dorky sidekick who constantly messes up and of course I always have to clean up after his messes. After all, why else is he called Hiccup?"
Rolling her eyes to the silliness of the movie concept, Astrid gets up and heads over to Hiccup who seems to have a loaded backpack ready. "Going somewhere?" She asks.
Hiccup nods. "Yep, I'm heading out to search for what could lead us to another new Drago Zord."
Intrigued, Astrid asks, "Haven't seen a new Zord in a while, what is it?"
Hiccup opens his Book of Dragons, which was bookmarked to one particular page, and shows a dragon with a rocky appearance that's made up of one large face, two feet and wings. "The Erupto Zord that is based on this, the Eruptodon. Said to have the power of an active volcano, the Eruptodon served as a great protector for an ancient island village, it would eat the lava that he island's volcano would seep and can spew this lava at any point to defend itself."
Astrid nods. "Wow, sounds like a very powerful dragon. So, where do you suppose it is?"
Hiccup then pulls up a map which had a small village pinned on it, "Here, the Village of the Wing. At least, I think this is where I can go to find someone to help me find the Power Scale for this Zord. It's a village that has been worshipping the Eruptodon, and all dragons for that matter, since it was founded, centuries ago."
Astrid nods. "I see. So, any reason why we can't go with you?"
Hiccup sighs as he puts the map into his backpack. "Well, these guys are quite finicky about visitors, it's lucky enough that I know someone in the village, but I can't imagine what it would be like if I brought…"
He gestures to Snotlout who was currently wrapping his arm around the red Nightmare Zord's neck, telling about the great adventure he would go on in his movie. Astrid comments, "I get it. So, wait, you have friends outside of the Dragerium?"
Hiccup shrugs. "They're more like allies who love dragons as much as I do. Luna and I worked with them for a bit to help them fight off an army of Scale Shedders that somehow found the village. After saving them, the head of the village said that we were welcome back any time." Hiccup then slips his backpack onto his back and says, "Well, I"m off. If anything happens, you guys should be able to defend yourself. Also, if real big problems come about, Alicia can have the Night Fury Zord follow the others to back you up."
Astrid nods. "Well, then, I guess all I can do is wish you luck, Hiccup." While the rest weren't looking, Astrid slips in and plants a kiss on Hiccup's cheek before he embarks on his journey.
Deep in the woods, miles away from the city of Berk, Hiccup hikes his way through several hills, over a river and on top of several rocks while keeping his map up, hoping to find the village that he seeks.
He had been hiking for about an hour until he hears people's voices and the sound of civilization up ahead, so he puts the map away and walks up. From there, Hiccup looked to the village that had many tents lined with volcanic rock patterned cloths and people wearing black suits that almost made them all look like ninjas. There were also a bunch of streamers, banners and balloons set up for what looked like a party.
After admiring the village, Hiccup is approached by a large, orange haired man with a very deep voice. "You are now trespassing in the great Village of the Wing, we're giving you 10 seconds to leave until we get really serious."
Looking very nonchalant, Hiccup replies, "Throc, we go through this same routine every time I come here, ever heard of a simple hello?"
The man, apparently named Throc, sighs, "My apologies, Haddock, it's just that you know that we have our ways."
That's when a short, blonde haired woman taps Throc on the arm and says, "Alright, Throc, you've scared him enough." Throc nods and walks off before the woman smiles and says, "Hello, Hiccup Haddock, it has been a while!"
Hiccup nods. "Indeed it has, Mala."
Mala then asks, "What brings you to our village?"
Hiccup replies, "Well, you see, I'm here on a bit of a treasure hunt for something that I believe might be in this very village. I was hoping you could help me out, though I might need to stay the night."
Mala nods. "Our village does contain a wide range of ancient artifacts and texts, I do hope you find whatever it is you seek. Come, I will show you to your tent."
Mala leads Hiccup through the small village, passing by the many people hanging up volcanic rock themed decorations and banners. "Setting up for a party?" Hiccup asks.
Mala lets out a slight chuckle. "You are quite the observant one, and yes. Tonight is our annual Festival of the Wing, where we pay tribute to our great protector and what he did for our ancestors." She gestures to a statue set in the center of the village that shows the Eruptodon dragon mentioned before. "I understand if you just want to rest up."
Hiccup replies, "Actually, I think I'll check this festival out, could help clear my head over what's been going on lately."
Mala nods. "You're more than welcome to observe what you wish, the festival is quite fun, it's something that I look forward to all year, though since you are a visitor, I must ask that you do not participate in our main event, It's just our way."
Hiccup nods. "I will respect your wishes, Mala, thank you."
The two of them soon get to one tent which appeared to be empty except for a sleeping mat. "This is where you'll be staying. I hope you find what you're looking for." She then glances from side to side before whispering to Hiccup, "Alicia told me everything in a message, I am deeply sorry about your former partner, Luna. I know you two were very close."
Hiccup had all but forgotten about the partner that he lost which sent him into the darkest point of his life, but he chose to hold in those emotions as he replies, "Thank you for your concern, Mala, but I am in a better place now. I found myself a new team, a team of people who I would trust with my life."
Mala smiles to that. "Well, that is wonderful to hear, I would love to meet this team of yours, but you know how we are about too many visitors. Anyway, I'll leave you to get settled in, I'll see you when the festival begins." Mala walks away as Hiccup sets down his backpack and slips his notebook and a pen into his pocket.
That night, the whole village lit up with lights, candles and booths selling all sorts of things from food to Eruptodon themed merchandise. Kids were enjoying activities like leaping on stones over a puddle of 'lava' which was actually just dyed water, many adults wore laughing, dancing and chatting amongst themselves, music was playing, and it was like nothing else in the world mattered.
Hiccup had just picked up a piece of bread wrapped around some kind of grilled meat and vegetables to eat as he walks around to see the festivities. Mala soon spots him and approaches him asking, "Well, what do you think?"
Hiccup replies, "I must say, this is cool! You all really go all out for this."
Mala nods. "Indeed. The Festival of the Wing has been a tradition since my village was founded."
Hiccup then states, "You know, I don't think you told me much about how your village was founded and why the Eruptodon is so sacred to you."
Mala nods then looks over to the Eruptodon statue. "I guess now is as good of a time as any. About 1.3 millenniums ago, our ancestors used to take home to a small island in a group known as the Defenders of the Wing. There, the Eruptodon would serve as a great protector by eating up the lava from the active volcano that sat on that same island.
Then came the faithful day that changed my village forever, word reached my village and many that a massive flock of a few hundred dragons, led by the world's last Night Fury dragon, were leaving their overworld home to take residence in an underground world that is like a paradise to dragons."
"The Hidden World, I've heard of it." Hiccup states.
Mala nods. "So you have. Anyway, when the word got to the village's current protector, it knew that its place was protecting those in its draconic world, so it joined them. Of course, without anyone to eat up the lava from the volcano, my ancestors were forced to leave their home as well where they settled here, on what is now the Village of the Wing. We may not ever see our great protector again, but he will remain in our hearts for generations to come."
"Wow." Was all Hiccup had to say, having heard all of that. "Sounds like that protector really was the real deal." He then glances to the left and spots what looked like a battle arena that had a very long field covered with a black and red stone floor. "So, what's that over there?"
Mala replies, "Ah, yes, that is the main event of the festival, the Duel of the Wing, where our bravest and most cunning warriors will duel it out to see who will be the new champion. They will also take possession of a great artifact to my people." She reaches into her pocket and pulls out flyer showing a gold necklace with a hexagonal scale with a red border.
Raising a brow, Hiccup asks, "What is it?"
Mala explains, "This is believed to be the last thing that our great protector left behind before making the great move. The Eruptodon Drago Scale. Whoever takes possession of this scale is said to hold onto great power for the rest of the year."
Upon seeing the scale in that image, Hiccup instantly recognized it as the very Drago Scale that he came to the village to look for in the first place. However, Hiccup didn't want to make that much too obvious, so he chose to make a mental pin as he notices a dark haired, shirtless Asian man approach the arena. "So, who's that?" Hiccup asks.
Mala sighs. "That is Anston Lee-Chun, last year's champion, and no doubt here to hold onto that title."
Anston glances over to Hiccup and scoffs at him before turning away and picking up a long stick of bamboo that he begins twirling in front of him. Hiccup could sense that this guy was trouble and knew well that if he wanted the Eruptodon's scale in his hands, then this is who he will have to beat.
Later on, the whole village is gathered in front of the arena with Hiccup taking a special guest spot next to Mala and Throc, the muscular man from earlier, stands before the podium and states, "Villagers of the Wing! Tonight may be the most important night for our village, for it is the night that we find out if our reigning Duel of the Wing champion, Anston Lee-Chun is gonna hold onto his title for another year or if someone else will take his place.
Now, you know the rules, anyone who wishes to challenge the champion will step up one by one, and if any of them manage to defeat our champion, then they win! The rules of the matches are simple in that there are no rules, you can make as many moves as you wish until your opponent is knocked to the ground.
Now, are you ready?" The crowd cheers wild as Anston steps up and gets into a battle pose as many other strong looking men and women form a line.
Hiccup watches closely at the action and jots down Anston's fighting style on his notebook. From a few matches, Hiccup notices that Anston seems to be making good moves, knocking out each opponent as they come, but something else was on his mind. "Come on, come on, what's your weakness?"
Seconds later, Hiccup catches glimpse of Anston squinting after attempting to make a move. Curious and to make sure he isn't just seeing things, Hiccup watches even closer and, sure enough, as the man he was fighting attempts to step forward to make a right-hand chop, Anston attempts to step to the left, but squints before stepping to the right. "There it is." Hiccup says to himself.
It wasn't long before pretty much everyone that initially lined up to face Anston either got knocked out or ran from fear. Clapping, Mala leans over and says, "Anston is quite good, isn't he?" However, she then notices that Hiccup isn't there and gets a bit concerned as she looks around.
Having thrown the last of the challengers onto the ground, Anston holds out his arms for the crowd asking, "Come on! Is there nobody in this village that is worth my time?"
It was nothing but silence for a second before someone wearing a black, hooded robe walks up to the arena. The person talks off the hood, revealing to be Hiccup who says to him, "My name is Hiccup Haddock, and I hereby challenge you, Anston Lee-Chun, to an official match for the championship title."
Anston eyes up Hiccup's fishbone figure and scoffs. "You? You think you have what it takes to beat me? Come on, you're an outsider, people around here have been training for this for years of their lives."
Throc adds, "He has a point, Haddock, besides you know that visitors aren't allowed to participate in this event."
Hiccup smirks to that and looks to Throc before asking, "Oh yeah, where does it say that?" This gets even more silence from the village. "You said it yourself, Throc, ANYONE who wishes to challenge the champion may step up one by one, you did not say that the challenge had to be from someone who lives in the village." This left Throc speechless as Hiccup looks back to Anston, "Besides, If you're so certain that I'll lose, then why don't you accept my challenge?"
This gets some stammered words from Anston as he looks over to Mala and asks, "Surely you can't be allowing this!"
Mala looks to Hiccup and could see the determination in his eyes, determination that says he won't leave until he gets what he wishes, so she stands up from her throne and replies, "Mr. Haddock is not breaking any rules, I will allow this."
Hearing that, Anston realizes that there's no way he was leaving the arena without this fight, so he looks back to Hiccup and states, "Fine, you have your challenge…but on one condition! You lose that wrist band." Knowing he was referring to Hiccup's Drago Morpher, Hiccup raises a brow to that. Anston states, "You think I don't know a Drago Morpher when I see one?"
"If this is what it's gonna take to get the Drago Scale, then so be it." Hiccup thinks to himself as he undoes the strap under his Morpher and takes it off, tossing it to Mala who catches it. "Not like I was going to need it, anyway." With that, Hiccup and Anston stand facing each other as they get ready to fight.
Meanwhile, back at the Dragerium, the Emergency Alarm has been going off for a minute as the other Rangers and Alicia gather around the Sacred Pond. Alicia looks in the pond and sees the same iron armored Scale Crusher that the rangers dealt with earlier, only now it was the size of a building.
Seeing that Crusher, Astrid asks, "Are we really about to deal with the same Crusher we just dealt with?
Over at the Scale Shedder lair, Grisly asks Vidger, "Are we really sending in the same Scale Crusher the Rangers just dealt with?" HIccup
Vidger replies, "The budget has been tight this week because of our new weapon."
Grisly simply replies, "Drat."
At the Dragerium, Alicia says to the Rangers, "You'll have to get going. I'll have the Night Fury Zord meet you there. Good luck, Rangers."
"Thanks, Alicia." Astrid says.
Snotlout then states, "Great, just when I was about to finish up the casting list for my movie."
Heather points out, "The only people you put on that list are yourself and America Ferrera. How do you expect to get her?"
Snotlout replies with a smirk. "Let's just say I have my connections."
Astrid then asks, "Can we talk about this when a giant monster isn't attacking our city?" as she, Snotlout, Fishlegs, Heather and Dagur stand side by side as Astrid asks, "Ready?"
"READY!" The other Rangers reply in unison.
The first three call, "DRAGO FURY…" as they raise their arms to the sides.
The later two add, "BERSERK FURY…" as they throw their left arm back.
All five of them add, "FIRE UP!" as they slap their Morphers, causing flurries of blue, red, yellow, silver and violet scales to pool out and form around them to form their respective Power Ranger suits.
Once Morphed up, they respectively leap into the blue Nadder Zord, red Nightmare Zord, yellow Gronk Zord, silver Razor Zord and violet Stryke Zord as the firs three form together with the black Night Fury Zord to create the Drago Megazord and the later two form together to create the Berserk Megazord.
The two Megazords stand before the iron armored Scale Crusher as he lets out a big, loud laugh. "You think those toys are any match for me?"
Astrid replies, "You think that's the first time we've heard that sentence? Let's get him!" The two Megazords charge at the Crusher to begin fighting.
Meanwhile, back at the Village of the Wing, Hiccup and Anston stood facing each other, hands up in a fighting position.
Feeling the rage building in him, Anston says to Hiccup, "Don't think I'm going easy on you just because you're an outsider."
Hiccup replies, "I wouldn't expect anything else."
Moments later, Throc calls, "Let the match begin!" In a swift move, Anston runs towards Hiccup before throwing a left hand punch which Hiccup successfully blocks with both hands and attempts to knee Anston in the stomach, which he backs away from.
Hiccup then performs a right spin kick, which Anston blocks with his forearm and pushes his open hand out to try to push Hiccup over, but Hiccup uses his foot to push off of Anston in a backflip allowing him to dodge. Anston comments, "You're not as bad as I thought, but this fight is still mine!"
He then runs up and holds his arms up in an X position as Mala comments to herself, "Anston is getting ready for one of his signature moves."
Hiccup then comments, "I don't think so." He then leaps to Anston's left. Anston tries to follow Hiccup's movements, but that was met with a squint and a grunt as he pauses, giving Hiccup a chance to drop kick him to the ground.
With that done, Throc calls, "Anston has hit the ground, the winner is Hiccup Haddock!" This gets a cheer from the audience, including Mala.
Standing back up, Anston asks, "But…how?"
Hiccup replies, "Just takes some simple observation. During previous matches, I noticed you kept squinting every time you tried to move to the left, almost as if you're in pain. I took that as an opportunity to take you out."
Anston groans. "Fine, I nearly injured myself training the other day, I hoped that if I kept fighting then no one would notice."
Mala then walks up to Hiccup and tells him, "Your cunning skills did it, Hiccup Haddock. This is yours."
She holds out the black and red striped Drago scale as Anston calls, "Hold it! You can't be serious can you? Sure, you won the match, but there's still no way some outsider can take the scale of our great protector!"
Right on cue, a rumbling in the ground was heard, one that Hiccup had become quite familiar with. He had Anston, Mala and Throc meet him at the top of a hill that overlooks the city of Berk as they see the Scale Crusher fighting the Drago and Berserk Megazords, both of which seemed to have already suffered some damage.
The Crusher pulls out a large sword and slashes both Megazords, making them collapse to their knees. Hiccup explains, "Right now, that monster is not only invading my city but attacking my friends, my team, as well. I need the power that your scale possesses in order to stop it. Please…"
Anston could clearly see the destruction that the Crusher was causing, so he bows his head saying, "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few…" He hands the scale over to Hiccup. "Fine, you may have the scale, though I don't know what you expect to do with it."
Hiccup replies, "I know just the thing."
He heads over to the large Eruptodon statue that sits in the center of the village as Mala comments, "I don't understand, it's just a statue isn't it?"
Hiccup replies, "That's what I thought too, but then I noticed something…interesting." He pulls up a book he found at the village's library showing the same statue that was built centuries ago, an image that looks exactly the same as the statue in front of them. "This statue has been here for over a thousand years, yet you'd think that in that time it would take on some form of weathered look.
Throc asks, "So, what are you suggesting?"
Hiccup holds up the scale saying, "Just this. Erupto Zord, AWAKEN!" He holds up the scale and it begins shining with a dark red hue, this causes the statue to suddenly start glowing with the same color. Soon enough, the wings of the statue begin moving, causing many years of dust to get brushed off of it, and the whole exterior of the statue bursts away as the black and red Zord inside is revealed.
Uncovering her eyes from the dust, Mala asks, "It's…alive?!"
Hiccup nods. "It is, and it looks like it's ready for battle. Oh, I am going to need something before I go."
Mala understands and hands Hiccup back his black Drago Morpher saying, "May this Zord bring great power."
Hiccup puts the Morpher back on while saying, "Oh, it will. Drago Fury, FIRE UP!" He says as he holds his arms out to the side before bringing his left arm up and bringing his right arm over to smack his Morpher, causing a flurry of black scales to pool out and form his Power Ranger suit.
Once morphed, Hiccup leaps onto the Erupto Zord's head and the Zord takes off towards the scene of battle as the whole village watches in awe.
At the battle, the other rangers were getting their butts kicked as both Megazords had taken on a good bit of damage. "Blast, this guy is stronger than I thought!" Astrid, in her blue Ranger suit, comments.
"What do we do?" Heather, in her silver suit, asks.
Hearing a loud flapping of wings coming closer from his left, Fishlegs, in his yellow suit, looks and asks, "What's that?"
The Megazords turn their heads and see the Erupto Zord coming in with Hiccup sitting on its back. "IT'S HICCUP!" Astrid yells out.
Snotlout, in his red suit, comments, "Yep, that's gonna be me as I come in and save the day in my movie!"
Hiccup leaps into the Drago Megazord and comments, "Hope I'm not too late for the party, had to invite an old friend."
Astrid asks, "Is that…?"
Hiccup nods. "It is."
The Crusher states, "Big whoop! What's one more Zord going to do?"
Hiccup replies, "I guess you'll just have to see. Power Scale, activate! Erupto Zord!" He slips the Erupto Zord's scale into his Morpher, making the scale glow as the Erupto Zord sits in between the two Megazords before Hiccup calls, "Erupto Zord, canon mode!" Suddenly, the Erupto Zord plants its wings and feet into the ground as its mouth opens up and extends like a canon before a ton of heat and energy builds up in its mouth.
Realizing what's about to happen, the Crusher states, "Oh, this is going to burn."
Hiccup then calls, "Erupto Zord, Lava ball! FIRE!" Suddenly, a huge ball of lava, the size of an entire volcanic crater, fires from the Erupto Zord's mouth and directly hits the Scale Crusher, burning up his armor and causing it to get destroyed where it stood.
The Rangers cheer as Dagur comments, "That was amazing!"
Astrid adds, "Yeah, thanks for saving us, Hiccup."
Hiccup nods. "All part of the job. I'd go over how, after months of training you weren't able to take out this one guy on your own, but that will have to be for another day."
Fishlegs looks down at the Erupto Zord and states, "Oh, I can't wait to take this guy back to the Dragerium!"
That's when something occurs to Hiccup, something that he should've realized sooner. "…We can't take it back." Even from within their Power Ranger helmets, one could see the wide eyed looks of the other Rangers. Hiccup explains, "The Erupto Zord doesn't belong with us, it belongs…in its real home."
Minutes later, at the Village of the Wing, Mala looks up as something very big approaches. "By the ancients!" She states as the Erupto Zord flies in and sets down where it stood as a statue. "It has returned!"
Hiccup, now out of his Ranger suit, leaps off of the Zord and says to Mala, "It's all yours, Mala. I get it now, why you didn't want an outsider competing for the Erupto Zord's scale, you were afraid that someone was going to just take the Zord from you for good. Well, I just can't do that, not when the Erupto Zord means so much to you."
Mala smiles wide. "Your generosity knows no limits, Hiccup Haddock. I thank you."
Hiccup nods before holding out his hand. "And here…" He opens his paw to show the Erupto Zord's scale. "This belongs with you as well."
Mala wanted to take it, but something stopped her from doing so, so she closes Hiccup's hand and tells him, "You need the Erupto Zord's power to help fight great enemies, don't you?" A simple glance down from Hiccup was all Mala needed to see to confirm that. "…Then it's settled. The Erupto Zord will live here, but if you need it's power again then don't be afraid to call. Besides, you are the champion of the Duel of the Wing, you have the rights to that scale for the next year."
Glad to hear that he can keep the scale, Hiccup gives a huge grin. "I think that will work out nicely."
Standing at the village's gates were the other rangers as the village only allows so many visitors at one time. Fishlegs comments, "Well, I'd say that worked out nicely."
Snotlout adds, "Yeah…the main enemy for my movie could be a giant dragon that lives in a volcano!" He pulls up his little journal. "Oh, this stuff just writes itself!" As Snotlout jots down these new notes, the moon shines down brightly on this eventful night.
