Here's the next chapter I hope you enjoy it.
A week goes by and I have settled in well. My support workers are constantly motivating me to keep going, but to take it slow, and I already feel so much more relaxed than I have in a long time.
Today I have another session with Dr Adams. "How have you been this past week?" Dr Adams asks.
"I've been good. I've started to get a feel of what goes on around here and I know where everything is now." I respond. "And I feel a lot less stressed."
"That's great." She smiles. "Now last week you told me a whole bunch of stuff about yourself, today we are going to talk through one. We are going to start at the beginning, your childhood."
"Where do you want me to start?"
"What was it like before your father died?" Julie asks.
"We were a traditional family. I had two loving parents, aunties and uncles who I adored, I had great friends."
"That's good, tell me about your family then, what was your mum and dad like before all the hard stuff?"
"My dad was strong, courageous, a fighter like myself, if he wanted something he would go for it." I say smiling. "He had strong family values and I was his princess. If I fluttered my eyes, he would let me have anything I wanted, of course, I never let it go to my head. My dad looked tough but he was a huge marshmallow."
"Sounds like you and your dad were very close."
"Very close." I confirm. "I was his number 1 fan, he was my mentor, and best friend. He was my everything." I smile. "He would take me fishing, take me up to Seattle Sky Deck on my birthday. He was the best dad I could've asked for, we were inseparable."
"Sounds like you had a blast together." she smiles. "What about your mother?"
"She was a stay at home mum. She loved to cook, clean, always picked me up from places." I list.
"Anything else?"
"I have her personality. I'm very outspoken and I speak the truth just like she does, she can be blunt, and knows what she wants, just like me."
"Now tell me about the accident, it may bring up bad memories but just take your time." She encourages.
"My dad was late coming home from work." I begin. "He's usually home around 7 and I was getting worried, but I just thought maybe he had to work late that evening." I continue. "At midnight we heard someone knocking at our front door. My mum answered and there were two policeman. I crept up behind her and overheard the conversation."
"Is that when they told her what happened?"
"Yes. The officers asked if my mum was Karen Smith and told her the news."
"And what were you feeling when they said that?"
"I couldn't believe it, I thought it was a joke but we saw the photos of his car, he couldn't have survived that." I say holding back tears. "After we had his funeral I was in denial for a while. I was hoping that it was all a horrible nightmare and he was going to come home any day, but eventually I came to terms with it, I cried and moved on."
"You didn't grieve?"
"I couldn't, my mum started to drown her sorrows and it went downhill from there."
"Well I think that's enough for you today, but we will pick it up next session okay."
"Alright."
The next day I wake up feeling better. A knock is heard at my door. "Come in." I call out.
Emma walks in with my breakfast. "Hey, how are you feeling?" She asks.
"I'm alright, just a little bit of a pain, but overall I'm good."
"Good, we haven't had to give you high doses of pain relief the last couple of days so that's an improvement." She replies. "Let's check your dressings and change everything over." she suggests and I help her out a little. "Dr Andrews called, and you can now take the neck brace off when you're in your room, but wear it when you are walking around or in therapy."
"Really?"
"Yes." she confirms taking it off.
I softly feel my neck and can see the faint scars of my incisions. "I feel free."
She laughs. "You look good, now get up and shower, call me once you're out."
Later that day I hear a knock at my door. "Come in." I call out. The door opens and Stephanie and Paul walk in. "Hi Stephanie, hi Paul." I greet hugging them.
"Hi, how are you?" Stephanie asks.
"I'm good. I got my neck brace off this morning, I only have to wear it when I'm walking around or doing therapy." I answer. "But I have a long way to go."
"You look good." Paul compliments.
"Thanks, I still feel sore but I'm tough."
"We just wanted to give you these." Stephanie says handing me a bouquet of flowers and some chocolates.
"Thank you."
"How has things been going for you?" Paul asks.
"Surprisingly well. I've started my therapy sessions and they've helped me a lot." I reply. "Talking about everything has been hard, but each time I let it out, I feel so much more like my old self as well as a little relieved."
"That's great to hear." Stephanie smiles. "We're proud of you for getting the help you need."
"I wish I did it sooner."
"We all make mistakes Serena, it's learning from them and moving on, that will help you in the future." Paul replies.
"You're right." I smile. "So The Authority I wasn't expecting that."
They both chuckle. "Yeah we weren't either, but it's been fun being back on screen again." Stephanie responds.
"I'm glad it's going well."
"You'll be back and we will have many things planned for you." Paul reassures.
"Thanks."
"Just get better first. That's all we ask." Stephanie encourages. "We already see a change in you and we love it and are so proud of you." She repeats. "Keep it up, take your time and use this time to regroup and come back stronger."
"I will. I just get a little board sometimes." I joke. "More visitors is always a nice surprise."
"Dually noted, we better head off."
I'm currently sitting on a bench under some large trees that overlook the entire property. I look around and take in this moment. I feel myself dosing off when a dog runs up to me wagging its tail energetically. I put my hand out for the dog to sniff and it immediately does. "Hey there." I laugh patting him. "What are you doing, where's your owner?"
I look around for anyone and hear a female voice calling. "Tess, Tess."
I stand up. "Over here."
Someone comes running up the hill and a tall brunette runs over to me. The dog who I'm guessing is Tess, runs over to her and she starts to pat her. She looks up at me and I smile. She looks familiar and as she gets closer I realise who it is, that's Phoebe Tonkin from The The Originals. "OMG you're Sarah." She says excitedly.
I laugh. "And your Phoebe or should I say Hayley."
She chuckles. "OMG I'm tackless, I'm so sorry, I'm a huge WWE fan and you're like crazy good." She expresses. "I haven't been able to watch in a few months but you're amazing."
I smile. "Thanks, I love what I do. But please call me Serena."
"Phoebe." She retorts. "Sorry about Tess."
"She didn't bother me at all, it's the only bit of excitement I've had in a while."
She noticed my arm and neck brace. "What happened?"
"I injured myself at work."
"Are you okay?"
"Yes, the easy bit is done, it's the hard stuff now."
"When you say you injured yourself, was it in the ring?"
"Yes, I also have a lot of personal issues, so I thought I'd make the most of my long stay."
"Do you mind if I join you for a bit?"
"Not at all."
"How long have you been here for?" She asks.
"About a week, I'll probably be here towards the end of the year."
"You said you noticed me?"
"Yeah not instantly, but when you walked up to me I remembered your face." I explain.
"I'm sorry about before when I just bombarded you with questions."
"Don't apologise. I love my fans, and I feel your just as passionate about WWE like any other." I respond.
"When did you start?"
"I started on the main roster in April. I debuted the after Wrestlemania and I injured myself two months ago."
"May I ask how you got injured?"
"I'll give you the short version, but I got pushed off the top rope and landed on my neck and shoulder. I ended up breaking my neck and dislocating my shoulder."
"So someone hurt you on purpose?"
"Yes." I confirm. "I better head back, I have to get ready for dinner."
"It was lovely meeting you, I hope to see you round." She wishes.
"Likewise."
Back in my room I hear a knock at my door. "Coming." I say and open the door and to my delight it's Colby. I instantly feel butterflies. "Colby."
"Hi." He greets causally.
"What are you doing here?"
"I heard Paul and Stephanie came to see you today, and they said you were doing well and I had to see for myself."
"Come in." I welcome and he enters. "Don't you have to be on the road?"
"Not for a couple hours." he answers. "You look good."
I laugh. "I don't feel it but thank you, I do feel a lot better though."
"I can tell you're smiling again." he smiles. "How's your therapy?"
"Better than I thought. It's been hard, but I'm getting there."
"How's your recovery?"
"I'm still sore, but I haven't had to have high doses of pain relief in the past few days, just when I sleep."
"It's good to see you doing well."
"I appreciate the visit."
"Do you want to go for a walk?"
"My nurse is about to come in half an hour, but we can just talk." I suggest.
He smiles. "I'd like that."
