Scene Four

A few days have passed and the trainer has reached Geosauge Town. Strangely, she didn't encounter any other trainers.

Trainer" I wonder why there weren't any trainers around. I'm kinda glad, I don't remember how to battle."

Gardevoir, walking next to her, responds quietly. The trainer's been letting one pokemon out of their pokeball at a time to get to know them better. In town, they visit the pokemon center where the pokemon are checked out. Then they poke around town, looking at all the standing stones. They met a man near the stones that says he'll take their picture. The trainer agrees and lets all of her pokemon out, as the man snaps the picture. After printing it, he gives it to her. She shows the pokemon, then returns them

Man" Here you go…hey Gwen! When did you get back in town?"

Trainer, looks confused " Do I know you?"

Man" Yes, it's Mcginty. We met the last time you came to town. I took your picture too."

Trainer, now known as Gwen, raises her eyebrows,' You did? I wonder if I still have the picture?"

Gwen thinks for a few minutes, then snaps her fingers. Taking off her backpack, she pulls out her log and starts flipping pages. She tells Mr. Mcginty it might be in her log. Finally, she reaches the right page.

Gwen "Here this page says Geosauge Town! Look, the picture!"

Gwen takes the picture out of her log. It shows Gwen, A Quiladin, a Rufflet, and two Kirlias. Gwen is smiling broadly, wearing a red bow tied in her hair, in a braid.

Mr. Mcginty" That's the one, do you remember now?"

Gwen, who's isn't wearing a bow, searches her memory but nothing shows up. She shakes her head and explains that she doesn't remember anything about her journey. Or who she is either. Mr. Mcginty says that's too bad and asks if there's anything he can do. Gwen says she doesn't think so and thanks him anyway. She thanks him for the pictures and says she has to get going. At the town gate, she waves and walks through. After dark ,Gwen stops and looks up at the sky. The sky is dark blue and full of stars. An almost full moon is rising. Gwen decides to sleep under the stars tonight. A hour later, a fire is lit, Gwen's sleeping bag is unrolled and the pokemon are eating pokemon food. Gwen is eating soup. Finishing it , she pulls out her log and starts reading. This entry is dated one month later than the last one.

"Pokemon Journey: One month exactly,

I'm staying in the Lumiose City pokemon center tonight. Me and my pokemon got through the badlands today. Tomorrow, we'll challenge Clemont, the Lumiose City gym leader! In the badlands I found a Vulpix. Kirlia helped me catch it. It's weird that a Vulpix was living in the badlands. It's mostly full of rock and ground-type pokemon. I wonder if some trainer dumped it? Back to my gym battle, I gotta figure out how to defeat Clemont's electric type pokemon. I'll puzzle that out tomorrow. I'm tired."

A small picture of the badlands is seen underneath the words. Gwen puts the book in her backpack and puts out the fire. She slides into her sleeping bag, gazing up at the stars. Suddenly a shooting star streaks across the sky.

Gwen" Gasp! Wow!"

Gwen ' I should make a wish.'

Gwen makes a wish that she'll remember her life and who she is.

Two days after that, around noon, Gwen walks into Courmarine City. Gwen stops in the harbor market and looks around. A lot of small boats are seen, a small lighthouse and market is full of stalls. Colorful vegetables are being sold. Gwen looks for the hospital. Before she left, her doctor told her that in a week or so her ankle we be healed. And that she should go to the hospital in Courmarine City, to get it checked out. She had agreed. Camera sees the outside of the hospital and watches Gwen go in. A little later, Gwen comes out without her crutch and her ankle unbandaged. As for her amnesia, apart from a few memories,she still doesn't remember much. Gwen visits the Pokemon Center and has lunch. Then she takes the Monorail to the other side of the city. After that, she looks at all the mailboxes, that are in front of the houses in town. She finds one with her last name. Gwen walks up to the front door and stands there for a minute, thinking.

Gwen 'This is my house, I guess. Should I knock or just go right in?'

She thinks for another minute, then knocks twice and goes inside. Inside the entryway, she looks around.

Gwen" Hello?"

Just then, a middle-aged woman walks into the room. Her face breaks into a big smile.

Woman" Gwen, you're home!"

The woman quickly steps forward and sweeps Gwen into a crushing hug.

Gwen, muffled and a little strangled " I can't breathe."

Woman "Sorry, I'm just so glad to see you!"

The woman lets go. Gwen backs up a step and takes a deep breath.

Woman" I haven't talked to you since you called from the pokemon center in Camphrier Town. I know you're a trainer, but a mother worries."

Gwen looks uncomfortable and goes to say something, but her mom isn't listening.

Mom "Jenny! Phil!"

A middle-aged man followed by a teenage girl come in.

Man"Gwenni!"

He crushes Gwen in his own hug, lifting her off the floor.

Girl" Hey Gwen."

Gwen , muffled again, " I..need..to tell you something."

The man puts her down.

Gwen " I…uh…I'm not…um…I don't know who you are."

Gwen's family looks confused.

Mom:" What did you say?"

Gwen:" I was in an accident and I lost my memory."

The family exclaims in shock and worry.

Dad:" You don't remember us? At all?"

Jenny:" That's terrible."

Gwen's mom doesn't say anything.

Gwen:" I don't remember you at all. The only reason I knew where I lived is because it was on my trainer card."

Camera is on Gwen's mom's face. It's tight and sad, full of disbelief. She faces Gwen and puts her hands on her shoulders.

Mom:" What do you mean don't know who you are? You're Gwenivere Damien, my daughter. And I am your mother. Don't tell me you don't remember me!"

By the end of her speech, Mom is crying.

A parade of emotions race across Gwen's face. She shakes her head slowly and drags her eyes from Mom's gaze.

Gwen,whispering:" I'm sorry."

Dad:" We need to talk about this. Let's go in the living room."

They all go into the living room and sit down. Gwen's parents and sister on the couch,Gwen sits with her legs stretched out on the floor. Dad asks what kind of accident it was. Gwen doesn't know. She was told it was some kind of rockslide. She doesn't remember the accident,or she doesn't remember all of it. Jenny asks what does she remember and Gwen says she remembers hearing a roar and seeing a white light or beam. Then she hit her head and it hurt and that's all. She opened her eyes at the hospital. Jenny asks about Gwen's pokemon. Gwen stands up and says she still has them.

Gwen:" Do you want to see them?"

Mom:" Ok."

Gwen opens all of her pokeballs. Braviary, Gardevoir, Vulpix, Skitty and Gallade stand in the room. All of them recognize Gwen's house and family,except Skitty. It hasn't been here before or met Gwen's family. It looks a little afraid and hides behind Gwen's legs. Gwen chuckles.

Jenny:" Nice,your Kirlias' evolved and you caught a Skitty."

Gwen sits down and Skitty jumps into her lap. The other pokemon sit on the floor,although Vulpix jumps into a recliner.

Gwen:" I think Skitty hatched out of an egg. It likes me so much because I might be the first thing it saw when it hatched. I haven't found it in the log yet."

Dad:" You still have your travel log?"

Gwen:" Yeah, I'm reading it. It might help me remember who I am and my journey."

Dad:" Can I see it?"

Gwen nods and digs it out of her backpack. Handing it to him, she waits while he reads it. A memory plays in her mind. She and her dad were on his boat and he was writing in a logbook. She asked why he was doing that. He said it's a captain's job to steer the ship and plot a course. To keep that course, he kept a logbook. Then she was packing in her room later when Dad came in. He hands her a blank logbook. She asks what it's for. He says it's for setting her own course and keeping it. She thanked him and gave him a hug. Gwen blinks and realizes that her dad is holding out the log to her. She takes it and goes to ask him something when a rumbling sound is heard. Everyone looks at Gardevoir, who's blushing deeply. Everyone laughs. Jenny asks Gardevoir if she's hungry.

Gardevoir,shyly:"Garde, Gardevoir."

Mom:" It is dinnertime."

She stands up and walks toward the kitchen, Jenny following.

Jenny:" I'll help you."

Gwen pulls a container of pokemon food out of her backpack. Seeing that it's empty, she sighs.

Gwen:" Do you guys have any pokemon food?"

Dad:" We do. Jenny's pokemon are here too."

He gets up and goes to a hallway,Gwen right behind him and Skitty right behind her. He stops at a closet and opens the door. Spotting a large bag of pokemon food,he pulls it out. They walk back to the living room and Gwen pulls some food bowls out of her backpack. Then she says over her shoulder while following Dad to the kitchen.

Gwen:" Follow us to the kitchen."

The pokemon follow and are seen eating happily. Gwen eats with her family then she is shown to her room. It's a good size room, with stuffed pokemon toys and famous trainer posters on the walls.

Gwen:" Nice room. This was mine?"

Mom:" Yes, and it still is. The sheets are clean and the bathroom is down the hall to the right."

Gwen:" Got it. Thank you ma'am."

Mom stops in her tracks,she was heading to the door. She turns around and looks at her for a minute. Gwen meets her gaze.

Gwen:' It's like she's trying to read my thoughts.'

Mom:" Gwen if you need me,I'll be in the living room."

Gwen,nods:" Uh, okay. Thanks."

Mom nods and leaves the room. Gwen watches her go. Gwen sits on the bed, her thoughts racing.

Gwen:'She reminds me of something, but I can't remember what. Hmm, I should ask…well Dad about the logbook tomorrow.'

She reaches into her backpack and gets her logbook out, she reads about her gym battle with Clemont. She won and one of her Kirlia evolved into Gardevoir. After that,she left the city and started traveling to Lavere City. She's also going to check out the Scary House before her next gym battle. Her sister Jenny made plans with her to battle once they both reached the city. Jenny's been a trainer for 3 years and has already been to Lavere City. She came home to visit when Gwen got her first pokemon then left to join the gym in Ainstar city. Gwen is excited to see her sister again.

Torchic clock:" Torch,Torch,Torch,Torch,Torch,Torch,Torch,Torch, Torchic!"

Gwen, yawns:"I should get to bed"

Gwen climbs off the bed and pulls her pajamas out of the backpack. Wrinkling her nose at the sour smell of them, she spots a clothes hamper and puts them inside. She looks at the dresser and starts over to it but stops when she hears someone knock on the door.

Jenny:"Gwen?"

Gwen:"Come in."

Jenny opens the door and comes in.

Jenny:" Hi,I wanted to see how you were doing."

Gwen:"Hi..Jenny. I'm ok. So you're my older sister?"

Jenny:"Right."

Gwen, nods:" I noticed your name in my log."

She picks up the book and hands it to Jenny,who opens it and skims a few pages.

Jenny:"I haven't seen this since we battled in Lavere City."

The sisters sit and chat for a little while before Jenny stands up to leave. She says she'll let Gwen get some sleep now. Gwen asks,a bit shyly if she's allowed to wear the clothes in the dresser.

Jenny:"Of course. They are yours after all."

Gwen:"Oh yeah. Thanks Jenny."

Jenny,smiles and nods:"You're welcome. Gnight Gwen."

Gwen,smiles back:"Gnight Jenny:"

Jenny leaves,closing the door behind her. Gwen picks a pair of pajamas out of the dresser and pulls her toothbrush out of her backpack. She leaves for the bathroom. She comes back a few minutes later and turns off the light. She puts her clothes and toothbrush into her backpack and climbs into bed. She feels a lump under her and pulls a plush Pikachu from her back. She puts it on the bed next to her and closes her eyes.

Scene Five

Gwen has been home for a week and is going crazy. On Sunday,she gets up early and goes to the other side of town to watch the boats. She climbs a hill near a hotel and sits down at the top. The ocean is seen,blue, sparkling and endless. Camera then switches to focus on Gwen's face.

Gwen:'I'm going insane! Mom is always hovering over me. Everytime I turn around,she's there watching. I'm surprised I got up here by myself today.'

Gwen sees a Pelipper fly overhead and makes a decision. She stands up and walks down the hill. Back at home,she packs her things and tells her family she's leaving. Dad asks why and where she is going. Gwen tells her she's going to try and get her memory back. Staying home hasn't worked.

Gwen:" Maybe if I retrace my journey I'll remember who I am and my life."

Jenny:"Or why you were in the accident."

Gwen:"Exactly."

Mom,firmly:" You're not going anywhere. You're staying here where you'll be safe."

Gwen:"Mom I can't stay. I need to find out what my journey was about. I'll be fine."

Mom, angrily:"You don't even remember how to battle. You can't protect yourself out there!"

Gwen:"Jenny taught me how. I have to do this "

Mom's angry face slowly changes and she looks sad.

Mom:"But you'll be alone and it isn't safe and…"

She doesn't finish,tears running down her face. She wraps Gwen in a big hug,Dad and Jenny join them. After a bit,Mom holds Gwen out,her hands on her shoulders.

Mom:"Promise me you'll be careful."

Gwen says she will. In the doorway she waves a goodbye to her family. Camera watches her walk through town and go into the forest. Once there,Gwen feels like someone is watching her. She turns around but sees no one. Unseen by Gwen,Mom is clinging to a Driftblim, floating behind her. Mom watches Gwen all day until finally Gwen stops for the night and looks up at just the right time.

Gwen:"What? Mom?"

Mom is startled and lets go,falling on the ground. She jumps up and rubs her back her neck a bit sheepishly.

Gwen:" Mom,why are you following me?

Mom:"I'm not following you, it's just…this forest is filthy. It was driving me crazy. I mean there's all this dirt and leaves and…trees everywhere."

Gwen:"Mom."

Mom,sighs:"Ok,I was following you. I was worried about you so I borrowed Jenny's Driftblim."

Driftblim floats down and greets them. Mom says it did a good job.

Gwen:"Well now that you've watched me all day,are you still worried?"

Mom:"I'll be worried until you come home and know who I am and who you are."

Gwen nods and says she understands. Then says she should get her camp set up. Mom says she'll help. She sets up Gwen's tent while Gwen starts a fire. After dinner,Mom says she's going to head home and she trusts Gwen to be safe. Gwen says she will. Mom and Driftblim are seen floating away.

Over the next two days,Gwen is seen traveling through Lumiose City and into the bogs near Lavere City. Once she reaches Lavere,she stops at the Pokemon Center for the night,before camping in the colorful forest near Dendimille Town. While stopped for lunch near a stream,everyone is eating and playing in the warm sun. Secretly,Gardevoir and Gallade go off by themselves.

Gardevoir,happily:"Garde."

Gallade,nods:"Lade,Gal"

They walk together peacefully until Gallade accidentally kicks a giant pink flower. Jumping up,the Vileplume owning said flower is annoyed and uses Toxic on them. Gardevoir throws herself in front of Gallade and takes the brunt of the attack. Gallade escapes most of it and is horrified to watch Gardevoir collapse in front of him. Vileplume runs off and Gallade crouches down next to Gardevoir. He picks her up and starts running back to the others. Gwen looks up,startled at the sound of rustling leaves. Gallade comes out from between the trees and drops to his knees in front of Gwen,Gardevoir in his arms.

Gwen,shocked:"Gardevoir, Gallade what happened?!"

Gallade,weakly"Gallade,Gal."

Gwen studies Gardevoir's face. It's cheeks have a purple hue and her breathing is a hoarse rasp. Gwen can see the hue on Gallade's face too. Gallade is panting with the same hue on his cheeks as well.

Gwen:" You've both been poisoned!. Don't worry,I'm here and I'm going to help you."

Gardevoir and Gallade are then seen laying on white blanket and covered by another. Wet rags sit on their foreheads,trying to keep them comfortable. Gwen pulls everything out of her backpack,looking for an Antidote or a Pecha Berry or anything that could help them. She finds a single Pecha Berry. She cuts it in half and mashes it up. She feeds half to Gallade then tries to feed the other half to Gardevoir. Gardevoir takes the tiniest bite and refuses the rest. Gallade looks a bit better afterward while Gardevoir looks worse.

Gwen,pleading:" Come on Gardevoir,you need to take more of this,it will help you feel better"

Gardevoir just shakes her head slightly,muttering weakly. Gwen is scared, Gardevoir's fever won't go down and she's all out of berries. Gwen suddenly has an idea. She pulls two pokeballs from her belt and opens them. Braviary and Vulpix come out.

Braviary:"Brav!"

Vulpix:"Pix!"

Gwen:"Vulpix I need you to go look for some Pecha Berries. They look like this."

She shows it a picture of a Pecha Berry. Vulpix yaps and dashes off. Then Gwen turns to Braviary.

Gwen:"Braviary, can you go look for a Pokemon Center?"

Braviary,spreads it wings"Viary!"

It takes off and soars away overhead. Gwen sighs and goes to get more water from the stream. She comes back and soaks the rags again,placing them back on their foreheads.

Gallade,weakly grateful"Gallade."

Gardevoir says nothing,her eyelids flickering back and forth. Some time later,Vulpix returns with two Pecha Berries in its mouth. Gwen smiled and pets Vulpix in thanks. Washing the berries and mashing them,she gives half to Gallade. She holds a bite to Gardevoir's mouth but it turns away weakly. Gwen feels Gardevoir's forehead and frowns.

Gwen:'Your fever is even higher! This isn't good.'

Gwen:"Don't worry Gardevoir, Braviary will be back soon."

Gwen:'I hope'

She sits and watches them, feeling helpless. She doesn't know what else to do. Camera sees her concerned face,then Gallade reaches out and takes her hand. A memory sparks in her mind. She sees Gardevoir and Gallade glow and shine before standing in front of her altered. She remembers being happy and amazed that two of her pokemon could Mega Evolve and at the same time. As the memory fades,a new one starts. Gallade and Gardevoir both had intense fevers after Mega Evolving the first time. Gwen had rushed them to the Pokemon Center so Nurse Joy could help.

Gwen,gasps:"That's it! We need to get to Nurse Joy!"

Braviary:"Braviary!"

It swoops down and hovers in place. Gwen asks if it's found a Pokemon Center. Braviary nods and Gwen smiles. Gwen stands and puts on her backpack,having already packed up her campsite. She returns Vulpix to its PokeBall and lifts Gardevoir carefully. She tells Gallade to put his arm around her and helps him to his feet gently. He leans on her,still a little weak.

Gwen:" Ok Braviary,show us the way to the Pokemon Center."

Braviary calls loudly and starts flying in a straight line with Gwen following behind. Gwen looks down at Gardevoir and at Gallade.

Gwen,reassuringly to both :"Don't worry, we'll be there soon."

Gallade nods.

Finally, after what feels like hours to Gwen,they reach the edge of Dendimille Town. Gwen scans the town,looking for the Pokemon Center. She exhales,her breath fogging.

Gwen:"It's cold here. Hey Braviary, can you come down for a minute?"

Braviary comes down and hovers in front of her. Gwen puts Gardevoir down gently and takes off her backpack. She asks if it can carry it. Braviary bobs its head yes and grabs it in its talons. Gwen picks up Gardevoir again and tells Gallade to climb on her back. Gallade shakes his head no. It knows Gwen can't carry both of them,he can see she's exhausted from just carrying Gardevoir. He can also see the fear and determination in her eyes. Gallade points to her belt,where his PokeBall is.

Gwen:"Oh, right,I can put you in your PokeBall."

She manages to grab it while still holding Gardevoir. She holds it out to Gallade,who presses the button to make it get bigger.

Gwen:"Gallade return!"

Gallade turns into red light and goes inside the ball.

Gwen:" Alright, let's go Braviary!"

Braviary is seen flying, Gwen's backpack clutched in its talons as they continue to the town. Once into the town, Braviary is seen flying in circles above the Pokemon Center. Gwen tells her thanks and they all go inside.

Gwen:"Nurse Joy! I need your help!"

Nurse Joy hurries out from behind the desk and over to them.

Nurse Joy:"Oh my! What happened?"

Gwen:"My Gardevoir and Gallade got poisoned! Gallade isn't too bad but Gardevoir's in bad shape!"

Nurse Joy calls for her Wigglytuff to bring over two gurneys. Gwen puts Gardevoir down on one and lets Gallade out of his PokeBall. He looks around briefly and gets on the other.

Nurse Joy:"Don't worry,I'll take good care of them."

She walks through the doors leading into the exam room and the doors slide closed behind her. The red sign above the doors lights up. Gwen stares at the doors for a minute before going to sit down. Braviary sits next to her. Gwen strokes the feathers on Braviary's head a few times, Braviary closing its eyes in affection. She returns it to it's PokeBall.

Gwen:"Have a good rest,you were great."

Gwen:'Nothing to do now but wait'

Almost an hour and a half later,Gwen is seen paging through a magazine and absently fiddling with a zipper on her backpack.

Gwen:'Even waiting feels familiar. And two memories came back today,that's good.'

Just then a tune plays over the Pokemon Center's speakers and the light from the red sign goes out.
