I do not own Danny Phantom or Extreme Ghostbusters. Those are owned by their individual companies. This is a sequel to Unclogged Graves.
Packing up his bags, Danny Fenton was surly as he slammed his suitcase hard. He glanced to the open door in his bedroom, hearing his parents, Jack and Maddie, talking now.
"Jack, sweetie, I know you love to Babel on about ghosts, but I don't know if this is such a good idea," Maddie said apologetically. "I mean it sounded good at first, but look at how Danny and Jazz are right now."
"But when will our kids have an opportunity like this!" Jack said enthusiastically. He sounded like a kid locked overnight in a candy store. "To learn from Egon Spangler himself! That's something I could only dream about!"
"Then why aren't we going? Explain to me again."
Danny groaned, rolling his eyes as he recalled the great news from a few months ago.
It was the end of summer, Danny and his friends had just been hanging around, enjoying a ghost-free day. His parents were working on another invention, this time with no goo. Whatever it was, Danny did not want to care, as this was a rare day for him.
He and his friends, Sam and Tucker, enjoyed a movie marathon of classic films. From Seven Samurai to Jaws to My Bloody Valentine's, the group went through some of their favorites.
"You know, for teens, you'd think we pick more modern movies," Tucker commented, picking up a copy of Tron. "I mean that's what everyone else talks about, when they talk about movies."
"Well, we're not everyone," Sam remarked. A copy of the original Black Christmas with Us stacked behind it was in her hands. The girl was wondering which to choose. "Of course, some movies are instant classics."
"Yeah, well, at least you don't have to fight ghosts or have ghost powers," Danny added. He had Odessey picked out as he relaxed onto the couch. He noticed some looks he was getting from Sam. "Look, I appreciate your help when the ghosts appear, but I'm just saying, fighting ghosts all the time isn't that great."
"Suffering Spooks! I can't believe it!" Came a yell from the basement laboratory.
Jack Fenton came running faster than anything, possibly questioning laws of physics in Danny's mind.
"Danny!" Jack said, barging into the living room, looking more excepted than usual. Which meant he was about to blather in about ghosts again. "I've got great news!"
Or maybe not.
"Egon Spengler is giving a seminar about ghosts in New York during Halloween!" Jack held up his laptop, showing a digital flyer he received in his email.
Tucker went up and checked out the message, ensuring it wasn't a scam.
Egon Spengler...now why does that sound familiar? Danny thought to himself.
"Are you sure?" Tucker asked, looking over everything.
"Uh, Mr. Fenton? Who's Egon Spengler?" Sam asked, confused by the amount of enthusiasm from the fat man. "And what does he have to do with ghosts?"
Jack gasped like it was the end of the world. Maddie, who had now caught up with her husband, did the same as the spouses looked at each other.
"Who is Egon Spengler?" Jack reiterated. "Why, he's only one of the original Ghostbusters!"
"He's one of the foremost experts on paranormal studies. He was an inspiration to you father. In fact, we first met at a Ghostbusters club back in our day." Maddie brought out a photo of her and Jack when they were younger, emphasizing the moment. "Ah, would I wouldn't give to meet the real Ghostbusters."
"And this is good news how?" Danny asked. His older sister Jazz came down th stairs, wondering what the commotion was. If it was not an explosion, then something was up.
"Because your mother and I think it would be a grand idea if you two went."
Danny and Jazz were surprised to hear that, but neither was that interested. The older sibling walked down the stairs, alerting everyone to her presence. She knew it would be better to talk about this now than wait later.
"You gotta be kidding," Jazz said skeptically. "There's no way that's real."
"Everything checks out." The boy did everything from scrolling over the email address to double-checking on the web via his PDA. "Guess there's a lecture on ghosts in New York."
"Now sweetie, I know this may sound like much but—"
"Mom, there's no way you're making us go to New York for some ghost seminar from another ghost but," Jazz interjected.
"Ok, one, Dr. Spengler isn't a nut job," Jack said in a slightly angry tone, counting with his fingers. " and two, we're not forcing you to go." Jazz and Danny blinked in unison as their father's tone softened. "I just thought it would be a nice opportunity. I'd give anything to see this when I was your age. But if you kids don't want to go, then don't."
"But school—"
"Is something we can excuse you from as your legal parents and guardians," Jack added. "It's all perfectly legal and you'll be staying right at the ghost busters headquarters if you want. And since it's so special, we're willing to let you two spend a week in New York, since the seminar is on Halloween night Thursday."
Danny and Jazz were slack-jawed as they heard. Their parents were literally paying them to get away from high school to spend a week in New York to hear from a college professor away from all the craziness in Amity Park. It almost sounded too good to be true.
"But what about you?" Danny pointed to his parents. "Why don't you go?"
"Now, Maddie, we can't just up and leave during Halloween. There's too much spectral activity here and we can't just leave with that Phantom punk posing as a hero."
Maddie was not heard, but Danny knew she was nodding. They still have not thought of Phantom as more than a punk to be captured.
The ghost boy huffed as he finished packing the last of his things. He couldn't be furious at his father. After all, the boy agreed to go, but his short-sighted teenage mind had forgotten about it till a few days ago when his parents reminded them.
"I really need to pay attention to my life more," Danny said, looking over his suitcase. "I mean, I'm going, but why did Paulina half to give invitations out before I remembered? Sam and Tucker were probably going too."
The ghost boy made plans with friends and even got invited to a Halloween party where the most popular girls would be. It was a high schooler's dream come true. Granted, he was unpopular, and this might have been a big prank, not that he was not prepared in case, but he was willing to risk that. His older sister was always happy to learn about ghosts and even jumped in glee when she heard Egon Spengler was a college professor. Yes, one for a community college, but this would look good for credits towards a good college scholarship.
He tried to get out of it, but his parents reminded him that he had made a vow to not back down when Halloween week came.
"Darn those long forgotten promises that all those ghosts made me forget," Danny cursed under his breath.
He checked his closet for anything else he might need. Pushing coat hangers around, a box fell on the shed above, spilling its contents. The boy kneeled down to pick up his hidden items: the slime suit and mask he got from Lab Rat back in Canada. He touched his cheek, remembering the kiss Abby gave him, which was why he forgot that he wore the suit all the way back to Amity Park.
"I wonder how she's doing," Danny thought out loud.
"Wonder how who's doing?"
The ghost boy jumped, seeing his sister at the door. She leaned on the frame, looking at him inquisitively.
"Oh, Jazz. It's you," the boy sighed.
"Thinking about that girl who kissed you a few weeks ago?" Jazz teased.
"Yeah." Danny blushed. "Hard to believe we didn't beat the ghost, just helped him move on."
The ghost boy recalled how he got home and told his friends everything. From Joe Gutchern to the grossologists, he spared no detail. Including the kiss, which had Sam passing questions about Abby. It had only been a few days after did she mellow out. Especially since it was revealed, the girl was in Canada and probably did not have a reason to come here, as far as she knew.
Among other things.
"Guess I should count myself lucky I get away from Dash and the ghosts...ok, maybe Dash," Danny groaned at the last part as he walked downstairs with hits bag. His sister, already packed, looked at her phone, rereading about the seminar.
"This is gonna be great," Jazz said excitedly. "A real college-level lecture."
"I hope so," Danny muttered.
His parents were waiting by the Fenton assault Vehicle, better known as the family RV. His father was crying tears of joy, thinking of wonderful the experience would be for his children.
"Danny, Jazz," Jack said, walking up to his kids. He kneeled down to their eye level before speaking again. "I know this is probably raining on your parades, but I'm proud that you decide to take this opportunity. I know this may seem rough, but I betcha when you come back, you'll be able to teach your old man a thing or two about ghosts."
The ghost boy gave a slight smirk. While he was not thrilled to be joining this lecture, he had to admit that this would be a once-in-a-lifetime event. He could not help wondering what kind of person this Egon Spengler was or about the lecture. But hey, it beats hearing his parents talk about tearing ghosts apart, molecule by molecule.
"Everyone buckled up? "Maddie asked.
Danny had just strapped himself as Jazz brought out headphones and a book. The ghost boy realized he should have down the same as his father started blathering on about ghosts and the Ghostbusters while driving.
As the RV left, a figure came riding in, staring from atop a building as he saw the entire family leave. He narrowed his eye before soon following from a safe distance.
"If you think you can escape my wraith on this night, think again! For my revenge will come at you faster than my blade!"
Normally, I'd wait before posting a sequel this early, but then I remembered the plot and couldn't help getting into a writing fervor. I can't say when the next update will be, but I hope you all will enjoy it. Rated T because of the plot, but it mostly will involve horror.
